* ActorAllusion: In a bit of a roundabout way. Hunk's original voice actor provided the voice for a young Fred Flintstone, and in "The Hunkyard", Hunk can be seen grilling up Fred's token Giant slab of ribs.
* FollowTheLeader: Possibly a coincidence, but there's quite a few similarities to WesternAnimation/SymBionicTitan, such as the multiple sides, one being led by a GeneralRipper and another using crazy fauna as soldiers. But then you could argue that Sym-Bionic Titan took plenty of cues from the original Voltron...
* FranchiseKiller: The cancellation of the show led the franchise to reboot on TV in 2016 with WesternAnimation/VoltronLegendaryDefender after it was rebooted for the comics twice (the early 2000s Devil's Due run and the 2010s Dynamite run), thus ending the 28-year original continuity, even though the first SequelSeries WesternAnimation/VoltronTheThirdDimension was considered CanonDiscontinuity by this show.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** There was a Lion Voltron remake by Kickstart Productions that was slated to be released in fall 2005, but never came about beyond a reel of an animation test for it. It seemed to take cues from the Devil's Due comic series, with the space mice depicted as robots and Allura with darker hair and uniform. Kickstart eventually went forward on a new production, which turned out to be this series.
** A second season was planned and almost went into production but it didn't materialise due to complications with budget funding, as confirmed in a podcast from Let's Voltron.
