* AcclaimedFlop: (No Pun intended regarding the developer and publisher) Despite the game not selling well, The game has received a cult following over the years for being a enjoyable platformer with interesting levels and world building, Despite the games [[NintendoHard radical difficulty spikes]] also its absurd and outdated [[TakeThat gorilla marketing]] even for the time.
* FollowTheLeader: The game is a clear clone of VideoGame/SuperMario64 down to similar controls.
* StillbornFranchise: Acclaim was really banking on this game to be a major franchise for them with plans for a heavy metal/''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure'' inspired sequel but due to the studio going bankrupt later the same year, This sadly did not happen due to the poor sales and closer of [[Creator/{{Acclaim}} Acclaim Entertainment]] in 2004.
* TroubledProduction: WebVideo/MattMcMuscles, who did [[https://youtu.be/0v9R_VD7h9Q a video on the game's development]], got into contact with an anonymous source who worked on ''Vexx'' who shared some behind the scenes details.
** The game was going to be a more family friendly platformer called ''Clip and Mischief'' but it was heavily redesigned after the public reveal of ''VideoGame/JakAndDaxterThePrecursorLegacy'' at E3 2001. The development noticed that ''VideoGame/JakAndDaxter'' held many similarities to the content approval design documents they had sent to Sony years earlier that detailed the story and gameplay of ''Clip and Mischief'', although Matt's source stressed that it's more likely that the similarities are merely coincidental. The team briefly considered some kind of legal action but were quickly stopped by the studio higher ups who pointed out that they had no real proof that their ideas had been stolen and that, since the Platform/PlayStation2 was quickly becoming the top console of the generation, it wouldn't be wise to get on Sony's bad side. Remaking the existing ''Clip and Mischief'' assets into ''Vexx'' set back the development significantly.
** The game was supposed to have six large biomes containing three levels each that Vexx could travel to and from relatively seamlessly. However, the development team couldn't get this version of the game working on all three consoles, instead wanting to focus on the more powerful Xbox hardware and make less optimized ports for the [=PS2=] and [=GameCube=]. However, Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft all had guidelines that forbade third part developers from making multiplatform games that differed significantly from each other. This resulted in the six biomes and eighteen levels being stripped down to nine smaller levels. All of this restructuring also resulted in many other aspects of the game being removed or heavily simplified, such as power-ups, vehicles and the day/night cycle's effect on the story and gameplay.
** Due to a mistake made during contract negotiations, the amount of money promised to Brian Cox for his voice work was actually the entirety of the game's voice acting audio budget. As the mistake was only discovered after Cox had signed the deal, the time and cash strapped development team had to cut corners by significantly downscaling the story and removing many planned cutscenes.
** Acclaim wanted to hand out ''Vexx'' branded condoms adorned with the phrase "Vexx Before You Sexx" at gaming events. This never happened as the condoms were discovered to be potentially faulty and the existing stock was instead given to staff members for free as mementos.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The game was originally going to be a more lighthearted platformer called ''Clip and Mischief''. Clip was an elf-like SilentProtagonist while Mischief was his sarcastic talking animal sidekick. The game and characters were redesigned heavily after the public reveal of ''Jak and Daxter''. Clip was remade into Vexx and Mischief was removed entirely. Clip was also going to be called "Jinx" early in development but this was changed due to Acclaim being unable to trademark the word.
** Daggercrag and Dragonreach were originally going to be one massive world but the lack of a 9th level combined with impending deadlines and insufficient funding forced Acclaim to split it in two.
** An early trailer shows that there was also going to be a creature that Vexx could mount, however it was cut (most likely for AI problems.)
** There were several cut worlds such as a massive tree known in the music files as "[=RedWood=]", a volcanic world and some world by the name of Submergis.
** There was also supposed to be a level before the tutorial for sneaking into Yabu's ship to acquire the Talons.
** There were also going to be blood effects and even a four-player multiplayer.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BI5gRoXy-kE In this speed run]], developer Kynan Pearson talks about content and concepts that didn't make it into the game, reasons why initial ideas were scrapped, and other interesting info.
** According to some press releases, Vexx was originally going to confront and presumably battle Yabu at the Landspire (the mysterious tower floating out of reach in every level). It is also mentioned by Reia in one cutscene that Vexx needs to activate three outer structures of Astara, a missing plot point perhaps?
** 18 worlds were planned for inclusion, but only 8 of them made it in, most likely due to time constraints.
** The scrapped worlds include The Temple of Nanyk (which was reused in the Neverglades), Talon's Maw, Undertow Tower, Submarilis (reused for a subarea in Timberdale), Devil's Well, Pyroseum, Sorrow's End, and Mirrorrim.
** Some early concept art of Reia portray her as looking more like a bipedal fish-lady. A later one though (back when Vexx was still named Jinxed) shows her to have her final design, but with different colors, including a very human skin-tone unlike her blue in the final product.
** Some early screenshots show that you were originally going to see surrounding worlds floating in the distance, but this was cut for unknown reasons.
** Some leaked concept art featuring [[http://www.deviantart.com/art/vexx2-78153723 a evil-looking Vexx]], [[http://manu1.deviantart.com/art/vexx-2-astani-gloves-78251237 his War Talons]], and [[http://subtractivedesign.blogspot.com/2012/12/vexx-making-of-part-1.html an almost-angelic Vexx]] summoning enemies to fight for him hints that a sequel was planned but canned when Acclaim went bankrupt. According to an interview with Kynan Pearson featured in a speedrun, his original draft for Vexx 2 started with Vexx being tortured by Shadow-Wraiths and he would've had the power to summon spirits with different properties who could fight alongside him.
** In the official strategy guide for the game, three unused enemies can be seen in the 'Enemies' section. Why they were left in the guide despite being absent from the game itself is unknown.
** An early trailer for the game reveals that Vexx was once planned to have a wider vocal range in terms of his yells and growls. This same trailer also shows rain pouring on one level when weather patterns aren't even in the final game (except for Frostblight Mill, where snow can be seen falling.)
** Some of Vexx's early designs show him as looking more rodent-like with a long tail or more akin to a villain.
** A GBA version was planned, but it never materialized, most likely due to budget or time constraints.
** According to a developer interview, Vexx's original name, Jinx, was meant to be indicative of his "habit of getting himself into bad luck." However, due to legal issues with the name, they changed it to Vexx, indicative of him "turning his bad luck on his enemies."
** In the same interview, it was confirmed that a major reason why Clip and Mischief, an early draft of the game, ended up cut was because they were afraid of being accused of ripping off ''VideoGame/JakAndDaxter.''
** Located in the game files are unused dialogue for Darby, some of which reveal more of Vexx's backstory in that his father was the original user of the War Talons, until he and his wife were murdered in their sleep by Yabu and buried in the Hall of Heroes. However, the developer interview mentioned above officially confirms that this part of the story is no longer canon, having been removed to make Vexx more of an "everyman hero." Oddly, the tapestries in the Hall of Heroes seem to display Valdini using the War Talons and their powers, showing that this plot point might've been removed late in development.
** A water suit was planned for inclusion, most likely allowing Vexx to breathe underwater and possibly enter freezing water as well. All that remains of it is a tapestry in the Hall of Heroes showing it possibly being used and text in the files that would've appeared once Vexx got the disk for it.
** Reia was originally going to be directly fought as a mid-game boss fight, with her trying to stop Vexx from reaching the Landspire's rift system.
** In an early report of the game, it was mentioned that there was an entire quest involving "unlocking the secrets of the Astani language." This quest was in the form of the Sigil items, small disks with an Astani letter or number engraved on them. There were 6 in each world, 36 in all, but all but one (missed by Acclaim most likely due to the placement of it) ended up cut. The remaining one can be seen [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6zEyxMnoWQ here.]]
** Also done by the same guy, is this [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pt-76ceWQEE&index=5&list=PLwV72rbySokElpmDL6EXfkKI15_I3-Yee video]] that details the removed riddles in Vexx. Apparently, of the 144 planned, only 81 made it in. Special mention in terms of unused riddles goes to not only the aforementioned Sigil missions, but a hidden mission in each world involving locating a Vexx doppelganger and apparently racing them. The code for the doppelganger is still in the game files, but causes a game crash if used.
