! General Trivia
* In RealLife, Kohji Moritsugu (Dan) and Yuriko Hishimi (Anne) are both restaurateurs.

! Trope Trivia
* ActingForTwo:
** Those twin alien girls from "The Secret of the Lake"? In human form, they were played by one actress. "They" appear together at the end of the episode.
** Kohji Moritsugu plays both Jiro Satsuma and Dan in "Underground: Go! Go! Go!".
* BannedEpisode
** "From Another Planet With Love" was banned in the 1970s after a support group for atomic bomb survivors complained about comparisons between bomb victims and Spell Aliens.That's literal, by the way - the episode was actually rerun several times without incident or comment, but a third party published a set of cards that happened to describe Alien Spell as "an A-Bomb Survivor" (which isn't inaccurate, but can really only invite bad-taste comparisons). Tsuburaya banned the episode outright as a result of the controversy, as well as all elements from it.
** In 2011, "Super Weapon R-1" was banned in Japan after the Fukushima Daiichi disaster. Unlike with "From Another Planet With Love", this ban didn't last, and the episode was part of their 55th Anniversary [=YouTube=] rerun of the whole series.
* Blooper: Even though "The Seven Assassination Plan" Part II took place at night and the last third of the episode (from the moment ) took place at or near daybreak, those scenes were shot in broad daylight with no day-for-night visual effects used.
* CameoProp:
** In "The Invisible Challenger", a vessel from the Zetton invasion force is on the wall over Anne and Dan as they talk about how to make the Cool alien vessels visible.
** The Electro H Gun, in which a shrunken Seven snuck into to CatapultToGlory against Crazygon, was a Needle S80 from "Spaceship Rescue Command", shot in both shows by the same actor, Iyoshi Ishii.
* CompletelyDifferentTitle: In Mexico, it was known as El Agente Ultrasiete (The Agent Ultraseven).
* ContestWinnerCameo: Tepeto and Guyros were the gold and silver prize winners of a contest held by Tsuburaya for fans to submit alien designs for the show.
* CreatorBacklash:
** Despite its iconic nature, director Akio Jissoji always thought the coffee table scene between Dan and Alien Metron in "The Targeted Town" was silly, even when he filmed it.
** Tohl Narita hated the concept of Iron Rocks and Dinosaur Tank, considering them too inelegant and against his principles of kaiju design. Being forced to design kaiju like those caused friction between him and the production staff and he eventually quit after designing Alien Platic, with Noriyoshi Ikeya taking over the role of kaiju design.
* CreatorsFavorite: Kohji Moritsugu's favorite monsters are Eleking, Alien Metron, and King Joe.
* DescendedCreator: Director Kazuho Mitsuta, who helmed "The Ultra Garrison Goes West" and "The World's Greatest Invasion" two-parters and many other episodes, was the voice heard at the Ultra Hawk's launchpad that said "Fourth gate open" in many episodes.
* DuelingDubs: There are two English dubs.
** The first English dub was produced in the 1970's and only aired in Hawaii. While the voice acting in this dub is rather poor, the episodes were dubbed uncut and without any changes.
** The second English dub was produced in 1985 by CINAR. It featured multiple changes (episodes were renamed, eyecatches were replaced, and the character Anne Yuri was renamed Donna Michibata) and was never aired until 1994, when the episodes were heavily Bowdlerized to air on Creator/CartoonNetwork (they were also aired on Creator/TNT with less cuts).
* ExiledFromContinuity: Alien Spell, due to the controversy on atom bomb survivors it stirred in the 70s.
* FatalMethodActing: An aversion: From the Ultra Wiki: During filming of "The 300-Year Revenge", a giant prop of Ultraseven's hand malfunctioned and nearly killed Yuriko Hishimi when she was supposed to fall and land on it. She asked the producers not to air the episode and they complied. "Searching for Tomorrow", the replacement episode, has Seven catch and drop off the fortune teller with his hand, and that was accomplished with blue screen, as was Seven's hand in "The Courageous Battle".
* FollowTheLeader: The Ultra Hawks used by the team were inspired by Series/Thunderbirds, as Creator/EijiTsuburaya greatly admired the miniatures work on Creator/GerryAnderson's show.
* HeyItsThatSound:
** Like with Series/Ultramans Science Patrol, Ultra Garrison used King Ghidorah's cackle for their telephone.
** Eleking's shriek was recycled by Creator/Toho for Kamacuras.
** In Agira's first appearance, he uses Film/Rodan's roar, but in his second appearance, it's Film/Gamera's. Meanwhile, Windam's was recycled from Mechani-Kong and Miclas' croak was from Goldon.
** When Annon's FacelessEye opens, Kiyla's shriek can be heard.
** Alien Guts actually used Dada's "DA-DA!", while Pandon was a sped-up Miclas.
** Narse and Gyeron both used Ebirah's screech, while Guyros' recycled Gyaos.
* IronyAsSheIsCast: Given that Bin Furuya was a judo expert and he played the HenshinHero in the previous show, it's surprising he played the NonActionGuy in this show, a man who [=In-Universe=] was afraid of heights!
* MissingEpisode: Ultra Seven is this and then some.
** Tsuburaya has a self-imposed ban on Episode 12.The monsters in that episode were deemed to be a somewhat tasteless reference to the survivors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings Strangely enough, the banned Episode 12 was dubbed and broadcast in the StatesAlien Spell is made out to be a vampire of sorts, and can even be found online.
** Out of the Hawaiian Dub, only episodes 21, 22, and 35 survived.
** In the Cinar/Turner dub, all episodes were dubbed, but between 1985 and 1994, Turner's own video copies of episodes 5, 6, and 7 disappeared.
** Nowadays, "Super Weapon R-1" is banned due to parallels to the Fukushima-Daiichi disaster, although it can still be found on DVD releases.
** The Spanish dub, except for a few remasters (available on [=YouTube=]) made from available VHS recordings and the [=DVDs=], is mostly gone. The tapes that the Mexican dub industry or Mexican TV had in their archives were presumed destroyed or missing since the 1985 Mexico City earthquake.
* OffTheShelfFX:
** The antennae on King Joe's head are taken from camera tripod legs.
** Alien Perolynga's flying saucers were made from pairs of shaved ice bowls taped together, which allowed for a large number of them to appear on-screen at the same time. Akio Jissoji was not pleased with how cheap they looked and would later reference this incident in his semi-autobiographical novel with art staff making flying saucer props by wrapping paper plates in tin-foil as a cost-cutting measure.
** The miniature Dan who flew into the the 4th Dimension in "The Strange Neighbor" and some of the skydiving UG members in "Escape Dimension X" (when not using rear projection and the actors) look like early G.I. Joe action figures.
** The underground missiles in "The Greatest Invasion in History" Part II were taken from Series/Thunderbirds merchandise, specifically the Mole. Appropriately, the Ghose Aliens' missiles burrow into the ground, and so does the Magmalizerwhich the UG used to blow up their base, which may have been inspired by the Mole.
* TheOtherMarty: Yoshiko Toyoura was cast as Anne. When Toyoura took a film offer instead, Yuriko Hishimi was cast. Hishimi ended up wearing a small male UG uniform, as Toyoura was much taller and her uniform didn't fit Hishimi.
* PlayingAgainstType: Toho regular Kenji Sahara played mostly comedic characters, as opposed to Commander Takenaka, who was serious and never lost his composure as befitting a TPC superior. Even Jun Manjome was fairly easygoing, even funny at times.
* PropRecycling:
** Alien Quraso's costume is a Kemur-Man costume with a new head.
** The Science Patrol's Mars-133 was cut down and turned into the Ultra Garrison's "Paralyzer" stun-gun.
** Alien Pegassa's gun can be seen in Captain Kiriyama's hands in "Fly to the Mountain of Evil".
** Gabura was made from the Goldon suit from Series/Ultraman.
** The Dinosaur-Tank suit was remade into Rigger.
** Alien Borg was made from the robotic servant of Alien Talk, whose episode was never aired.
** The shadow illusion created by Alien Shaplay was made from the suits of Aliens Godola, Pegassa and Quraso combined.
** Much like Alien Borg, Alien Perolynga's suit was modified from Aquatic Human Piniya, whose episode was never produced.
** Robot Ultraseven is simply an old Ultraseven suit with mechanical parts added to cover the more heavily deteriorated sections.
* RealitySubtext: Kohji Moritsugu, Dan's actor, said that filming days were very busy where typically he would wake up at 5 AM and only get home until about 11PM. Suddenly Dan suffering exhaustion and burn-out for the final two episodes feels more real.
* UnfinishedEpisode:
** "The 300-Year Revenge". It was intended to be the twenty-third episode of the show and would have featured an alien called Alien Talk. Talk's robotic servant became Alien Borg, and the script only became known in the 90s when a documentary on the production of Ultraseven discovered it.
** "Cries from the Lakebed", an episode which would have featured Aquatic Human Piniya, was scrapped due to budget issues concerning the underwater sets. Piniya's suit was given a new head and repainted to become Alien Perolynga's suit.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen
** Was originally supposed to be a more hard sci-fi show similar to Series/LostInSpace called The Ultra Garrison, but someone urged a rewrite due to being too similar to rival show Captain Ultra, and the show was turned into Ultra Eye, where Dan was supposed to transform into Redman, who was also Ultraman Junior. The Capsule Monsters were supposed to be Peguila, Pagos, Antlar, and Red King, but Tsuburaya wanted to do more with their budget, so the capsule monsters became new monsters. Ultra Eye was reworked into Ultra Seven and the rest is history.
** When Turner Program Services was shown the finished dub, they found it to be subpar, and after failing to sell it to another network or syndication, the episodes were locked away until 1994- when they realized they never got run, they were given to Creator/TNT to run as part of their Toons Til Noon and [=MonsterVision=] blocks (for the former, the eps were edited to be suitable for kids and families; for the latter, the episodes ran uncut).
** Among the bizarre rejected ideas, producer Masami Sueyasu proposed the series become a Japanese analog to Literature/AlicesAdventuresInWonderland combined with Film/TheRedBalloon, writer Akio Jissoji proposed a series revolving around a time-traveling family and their everyday lives, Hajime Tsuburaya proposed a new season of Ultraman that basically pandered to the sponsors (think MerchandiseDriven to the Nth degree like today's Franchise/KamenRider), and Eiji proposed a cross between Series/Thunderbirds and Series/LostInSpace.
** The Ultra Garrison proposal would have revolved around a team of astronauts and RobotBuddy "John", who lived in a space station called Mother and were Earth's first line of defense against alien invaders. The concept came off as too derisive, and the executives ordered Tsuburaya to rewrite it.
** In addition to Ultraman Junior, there would be both good and bad monsters from Earth and space respectively, and the good Earth monsters would fight on humanity's side. Series/UltramanGaia saw this idea come to fruition.
** In one draft, Dan would have been half-R-alien (possessing ESP), half-human.
** One of Seven's preliminary costume designs looked similar to Series/UltramanMebius.
** Most of those designs lacked an Eye Slugger, but did use elaborate headdresses and chestpieces. And in several of them, the red and white parts on Ultraseven's suit would be swapped.
** Ultraseven was originally going to blue, but due to the blue-screen matte process, it was changed to red to prevent blend-in.
** The series was originally intended to take place in its own continuity, where the events of Series/UltraQ and Series/Ultraman never took place. This is clear in the final product, which makes no mention whatsoever of Ultraman nor his adventures with the Science Patrol. Seven himself exhibits many differences when compared to other Ultras (though Series/UltramanTaro and Franchise/UltramanZero, the latter being Seven's son, resemble him more closely.), and his superior looks exactly like him rather than Zoffy. It would be the following series, Series/ReturnOfUltraman, that retconned all three series into one continuity. The Series/HeiseiUltraseven series and (possibly) Series/UltraSevenX ran with the original idea of Seven as unique.
** Narita originally designed Alien Godola with actual hands, but was forced to include pincers to make them more reminiscent of Alien Baltan. Traces of the idea can be found in how supplementary sources call their pincers Godola Guns, suggesting they're Arm Cannons worn over the alien's actual hands.
** Alien Spell was described as an Insectoid Alien in the script, instead of the controversial design in the finished product.
** Alien Metron's original face was grey instead of red.
** Alien Guts was originally meant to have a bulbous exposed brain in order to emphasize his intelligence and potent mental powers, but Creator/EijiTsuburaya rejected it for being too grotesque. An alternate design gave them a transparent cranium, but was rejected for cost issues. The final design has brain-like wrinkles covering their heads instead.
** Tepeto was originally conceived as a cyborg with rotating parts named Dicrosrazor and had nothing to do with kappas. The original design also had a spinning shaft instead of legs.
** The suckers on Guyros' tentacles were originally meant to be eyeballs. Guyros was also originally meant to be an alien, but was changed to the monster minion of the Nonmalts in the final product.
** One of the more baffling scrapped ideas has King Joe as a cyborg instead of a robot, complete with an organic face instead of a slit-like visor. Said idea was (thankfully) ditched due to being too close to the UnintentionalUncannyValley.
** "The Wandering Planet" was initially written as an episode of Series/Ultraman, while Rigger's role was for Pagos. Agira was a last-minute addition, as the role was initially meant for Windam, but ExecutiveMeddling demanded a new monster.
** Miclas was originally meant to be killed in the Alien Guts two-parter .
** Pandon had separate necks in earlier sketches, but they were joined together after the mechanism proved difficult to operate. The separated necks would return in later variations of the monster.
** A capsule monster based on UsefulNotes/Hachiko existed in early concepts.
** Red King was considered for a reappearance in the series in a scrapped episode title “Alien 18 and Monster 35”.
* WorkingTitle:
** Ultra Eye and Ultraman Jr. were both considered for the show.
** "The Boy who Cried Flying Saucer" was originally titled "Flying Saucers of the Night", as a ShoutOut to Beauties of the Night (1952).
* WriterRevolt: Akio Jissoji wanted to make an episode that didn't focus on monsters or weird-looking alien invaders, "The Nightmare of The Fourth Planet" however Creator/TokyoBroadcastingSystem didn't want to greenlight it because it didn't have any monsters. So Akio Jissoji decided to write a script involving every monster from Series/Ultraman and Series/UltraSeven and refuse to write anything else until that script or the previous one were greenlighted. With the alternatives being letting Akio Jissoji go or producing the no doubt extremely expensive episode, TBS relented and allowed "The Nightmare of The Fourth Planet" to be made.
* YouLookFamiliar:
** The Robot Chief was played by Masahiko Naruse, who had also played Dr. NiwaAlien Prote's human disguise in "The Lonely Earthling". He'd later play Alien Nackle's human form (and voice him) in Series/ReturnOfUltraman.
** Ren YamamotoThe survivor of the octopus attack from Film/WarOfTheGargantuas, who played the human antagonist in Episode 11 "The Ruffian From Outer Space", plays the human form of Alien Icarus in "The Strange Neighbor". He would turn up later in Episode 25 as UG Foreman Maki (who passed out twice due to the extreme cold) and at least twice in Series/UltramanTaro as different characters.
** Senkichi OhmuraThe translator from Film/KingKongVsGodzilla and a Kurosawa regular, who played the terrified salaryman from "The Green Terror", turns up as a local in Episode 41, reacting to events the same way.
** Masanari Nihei, who played Ide from Series/Ultraman, played a minor TDF officer in Episode 42.
** Kenji Sahara was an Creator/IshiroHonda regular who previously starred in Series/UltraQ as Jun Manjome. Here he played Staff Officer Takenaka, a role he'd reprise years later in Series/UltramanMebius.
** Akihiko Hirata played Dr. Serizawa in Film/Godzilla1954 and Dr. Iwamoto in Ultraman. Here he appeared in "The Invisible Challenger" as a TPC Staff Officer.
** Actress Annu Mari, who appeared in Episode 32 of Series/UltraMan as Patty, a Science Patrol member from India, played the psychic used as the MouthOfSauron in "The Vanishing City".
