* ActorInspiredElement: Azkadellia was portrayed as a ColdHam with TranquilFury on the suggestions of her actress Kathleen Robertson.
* AwesomeDearBoy: Creator/NealMcDonough said that, after playing Buck Compton in ''Series/BandOfBrothers'', this was his favourite role. He jumped at the chance to play the Tin Man as a Creator/GaryCooper ''Film/HighNoon'' figure.
* FakeAmerican:
** Creator/AlanCumming is Scottish but uses an American accent as Glitch.
** Creator/KathleenRobertson (Canadian) as Azkadellia.
** DG's Kansas based stepparents are played by Gwynyth Walsh and Kevin [=McNulty=], who are both Canadian. Of course they are ''robots'', so they could be this in-universe too.
** Ahamo says he's originally from Nebraska. His actor Ted Whittall is English-American.
* FakeBrit: Anna Galvin (Australian) puts on an English accent for her role, despite playing the mother of an American and Canadian respectively.
* HeyItsThatPlace: DG's house in the real world is the same house used by Zelena in Storybrooke during ''Series/OnceUponATime'''s third season.
* PromotedFanboy: Zooey Deschanel was a huge fan of the original film and had wanted to play Dorothy for most of her life. She said that Dorothy had been her favourite character since she was two.
* SeparatedAtBirthCasting: Creator/ZooeyDeschanel and Kathleen Robertson certainly look like they could be sisters in real life. Likewise Rachel Pattee who plays DG as a child, has a striking resemblance to Deschanel.
* StuntCasting: The reason Richard Dreyfuss was cast as the Mystic Man. According to WordOfGod...
--> "For the part of the Mystic Man you want that really big name that everybody is going to know; and who’ll bring the great stuff that Richard brings to a role."
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** It was first pitched as a weekly TV series, but the Sci-Fi Channel instead requested a miniseries. It was originally just going to be four hours, but they liked the script so much they expanded it to six.
** The story was originally going to have the Tin Man as the protagonist and be more about the police in the Emerald City, hence the title. It was then retooled into a re-imagining of the original story. The creators couldn't think of a better name, which is the reason for the ArtifactTitle.
** Apparently original plans included a romance between DG and Cain. Whether this is due to Creator/NealMcDonough[[note]]He refuses to film love scenes of any kind - and will not kiss any woman who is not his wife[[/note]] or creators realising the {{Squick}} of the age difference is unknown - but DG and Cain remains an IntergenerationalFriendship in the final thing.
