* DeletedScene: The original TV version of this episode has an extra scene where Bart explains to the townspeople that they've lost their way as Springfieldianites by being so quick to lynch a ten-year-old boy who actually feels sorry for what he's done. Both network repeats and the American DVD version lack this scene (and so does the FXX rerun of this episode as seen on the "Every Simpsons Ever" marathon, though the Creator/DisneyPlus version actually reinstates the scene), and also added in the line about "most lynch mobs not being this nice". It is not known ''why'' the scene was changed, although the generally accepted theory is that after the first broadcast the producers decided the original ending was too preachy and needed gagging up, leading them to cut a section out and add the "lynch mobs" line.
--> '''Bart''': But I'd like to add one thing: It wasn't until I removed the head of Jebediah Springfield that we realized we were taking our heritage for granted. That was a crime, too. One I think we are ''all'' guilty of.
* FirstAppearance: For Corky James "Jimbo" Jones, Kearney Zzyzwicz, Dolphin "Dolph" Starbeam/Shapiro, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, Reverend Timothy Lovejoy, Herschel "Krusty the Clown" Krustofski (in the main series), Robert Underdunk "Sideshow Bob" Terwilliger, Ms. Albright, and Jebediah Springfield.
* TheOtherDarrin: For this episode, Jimbo Jones is voiced by Creator/TressMacNeille while Dolph is voiced by Creator/PamelaHayden. Later episodes would have Hayden as Jimbo and [=MacNeille=] as Dolph.
