!!The 1980 film:

* ActorAllusion: Jamie Lee Curtis is the one who protects Andy from the horrors, you might say [[{{Film/Halloween1978}} taking on the role of a babysitter]].
* AvoidTheDreadedGRating: The lack of blood in the film was to try and secure a PG rating. They still ended up with an R (as PG-13 had not been invented yet).
* BillingDisplacement: Jamie Lee Curtis is billed second, yet is arguably the least important of the protagonists.
* {{Blooper}}: The re-shot scenes (see below) are easy to spot because Elizabeth's hair drastically changes in length.
* CastingGag: Mother and daughter Janet Leigh and Creator/JamieLeeCurtis. Also ''Halloween'' co-stars Nancy Loomis and Charles Cyphers in addition to Curtis. All three interacted a lot in ''Halloween'' but are almost completely separate in this.
* CreatorBacklash: John Carpenter didn't think much of the film at the time, but he warmed to it eventually. He also felt he was so bad in his cameo as Bennett that he stopped acting in his movies afterwards (except for "helicopter pilots and walk-ons").
* CreatorCouple: John Carpenter was married to Adrienne Barbeau at the time. The part of Stevie was written specifically for her.
* IronyAsSheIsCast: Stevie smokes. Her actress Adrienne Barbeau was an avid non-smoker at the time.
* NoBudget: Just about $1 million to make. Apparently the advertising budget was three times that.
* ProductionPosse:
** Three cast members from ''Film/{{Halloween|1978}}'' return - Jamie Lee Curtis, Charles Cyphers and Nancy Loomis.
** Adrienne Barbeau, Tom Atkins and Hal Holbrook were later reunited for ''{{Film/Creepshow}}''.
* PropRecycling: The spiral staircase in the lighthouse was from ''Film/TwentyThousandLeaguesUnderTheSea''.
* RealLifeWritesThePlot: Stevie's radio station plays jazz music, because it was more affordable than rock music on such a low budget.
* RealLifeRelative: Janet Leigh and Creator/JamieLeeCurtis, mother and daughter. This is the only film they did together apart from Janet's cameo in ''Film/HalloweenH20TwentyYearsLater''.
* {{Tuckerization}}: A few characters are named after John Carpenter's colleagues. The weatherman is named Dan O'Bannon (screenwriter for ''Alien''), a sailor is called Tommy Wallace (the ''Halloween'' cinematographer) and Tom Atkin's character is Nick Castle (the actor who played Michael Myers). John Carpenter also cameos as a man called Bennett, possibly named after his writer friend Bennett Tramer (who also got this trope in ''Halloween'').
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The role of Father Malone was offered to Creator/ChristopherLee, but he couldn't make it. A role was also offered to Creator/KurtRussell.
** The original cut of the movie was only 80 minutes. To pad things out for a theatrical release, John Carpenter had several new scenes reshot. Among those includes the opening scene with John Houseman telling the ghost story.
** The lead ghost Blake was played by make-up specialist Rob Bottin. He applied to work on the film in a special effects capacity. But John Carpenter took note of his large build and cast him as Blake.
** The ghosts were barely seen in the original version of the attack on the boat. The re-shot version made it more violent.
