* TheCastShowoff: Somehow, even this show can do that. [[http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tue-october-6-2009/playing-the-race-card The 6 October 2009 episode]] features Creator/LarryWilmore doing some pretty awesome (if fairly standard) card tricks while discussing how to [[IncrediblyLamePun play the race card]]. Who knew he was a magician?
** Which means...[[MagicalNegro Uh-oh]]...
** Lampshaded where Jon says that the only reason Larry is doing this segment is to show off the magic tricks he's been trying to get on the show. Larry responds...[[VisualPun by playing the race card]].
* CowboyBebopAtHisComputer: Even Jon doesn't get it right all the time, such as his interview with David Barton about Barton's book on Thomas Jefferson being a strong Christian. Despite the Jefferson Bible being the one where all supernatural elements are removed, Jon never calls Barton out for blatant lying.
* NamesTheSame: Don't confuse the host, Jon Stewart, with the Franchise/{{Justice League|of America}} character [[Comicbook/GreenLantern John Stewart]]. Believe it or not, WesternAnimation/GreenLanternTheAnimatedSeries actually managed to get a joke in about this, [[spoiler:as John Stewart in this continuity goes on to be the replacement for Guy Gardner]].
** Or the late folk singer John Stewart.
** Or the Carolina Panthers running back Johnathan Stewart
** Jon is the host of the show. Jo'''h'''n, on the other hand, is the British correspondent (and occasional host). Close enough. People sometimes misspell their names, which can cause some confusion.
* RecycledSet: When Stewart made his debut, the set was exactly the same as the one Kilborn used at the end of his run as host. Averted with Trevor Noah's run, which features a new set and all new graphics and logos.
* RomanceOnTheSet: Samantha Bee and Jason Jones are married.
* StarMakingRole: For Jon Stewart himself, in the wake of Indecision 2000 and later 9/11, as well as [[Creator/JohnOliver John]] [[Series/LastWeekTonightWithJohnOliver Oliver]], Creator/SteveCarell, Ed Helms, Lewis Black... But perhaps for nobody as much as one Creator/StephenColbert, who helmed the absurdly successful spinoff ''Series/TheColbertReport'' from 2005 -- 2014 and ultimately took over for ''Creator/DavidLetterman'' on Creator/{{CBS}}.
* ThePeteBest: Remember when Craig Kilborn was the host? Yeah, me neither.
* TheShowMustGoOn: Jon [[http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tue-june-7-2011/jon-stewart-press-conference---john-oliver-takes-over cuts his hand against glass]], causing notable bleeding and ultimately requiring stitches? No reason to stop the sketch!
* ThrowItIn: Most of the time, if Jon starts laughing, the segment just keeps going. Some guests (and even other reporters) go out of their way to force a laugh out of him.
** John Oliver tripped and broke his nose [[http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-october-11-2006/america-s-love-affair-with-war while on a field report.]] They called back to the office and were asked, "Did you get it on camera? Good. Was it funny?"
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Amy Schumer, Creator/AmyPoehler, and Creator/ChrisRock were offered the show as replacements for Jon Stewart. They all turned it down for various reasons (Amy Schumer didn't want to constrained to the daily production routine, Amy Poehler just wasn't interested, and Chris Rock only wanted to do it until the election was over).
