* ChannelHop: This was the first of the two Franchise/SuperMarioBros cartoons to air on NBC after Series/TheSuperMarioBrosSuperShow aired in syndication.
* CrossDressingVoices: Hop is voiced by Creator/TaraStrong.
* DistancedFromCurrentEvents: The original version of "Kootie Pie Rocks", which featured Music/MilliVanilli as guest stars, ended up airing just two weeks before they were exposed as frauds for not recording their songs in the studio after a series of discoveries sparked by a lip-sync fail. NBC pulled the episode from reruns following the scandal, and when it returned in syndication it was heavily edited to remove the pair's songs as well as certain dialogue referencing the group. The edited version is what's on present airings and DVD releases.
* DuelingDubs: The German DVD has three dub tracks: the English original, the version used in the original broadcast and a new dub created for the DVD release. Of the two German dubs, the broadcast version is generally considered to be the superior one due to better acting performances.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: Due to Milli Vanilli's scandal, the original version of "Kootie Pie Rocks" with the group's songs is no longer available legally.
* TheOtherDarrin: Mario, Luigi and Princess Toadstool all got new voice actors (Walker Boone, Creator/TonyRosato and Creator/TraceyMoore).
* SameVoiceTheirEntireLife: In "Toddler Terrors of Time Travel", King Koopa and Kooky, using Kooky's invention, try to go back in time to prevent the Mario brothers from ever leaving Brooklyn. However, they go too far back in time, causing them all to become babies. King Koopa, Kooky, Mario, Luigi, and Toad all retain their normal voices, despite being babies. The absolute strangest thing though, is that Mario and Luigi even retain their mustaches.
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: Creator/NBC only promoted the show through teasers, rather than network promos. It along with its pairing program WesternAnimation/CaptainNTheGameMaster were heavily affected by NBC's budget cuts to its Saturday morning block. Its replacement didn't fare any better.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Going by concept art in the writers' bible included on the official DVD set, Mario was apparently going to use the Tanooki Suit at one point, but it never made it into the final product due to network budget cuts.
* WorkingTitle: "Kootie Pie Rocks" was originally titled "Strawberry, Chocolate or Vanilli?"
