* ActingForTwo: Creator/FrankWelker voices Pascal and Maximus.
* CareerResurrection: For Disney. After a third AudienceAlienatingEra, which included the shutting down and failed revival of their legendary traditional animation department, several failed attempts to do more timely CGI films, and their exploration of divisive Creator/DisneyChannel franchises alienating many, the animation studio finally made a welcomed return to form with this, its second-highest grossing film and ushering in a second renaissance era, which would eventually be solidified by the release of ''[[WesternAnimation/Frozen2013 Frozen]]''.
* CastTheRunnerUp: For the Latin American dub, Creator/IdziDutkiewicz dubbed Flynn Rider in the first trailer. Chayanne was cast for the part, followed by Creator/JoseGilbertoVilchis (for other related works) who also voiced him in the other trailers, so Idzi instead got chosen to dub one of the Stabbington Brothers.
* CelebrityVoiceActor: The French dub has Creator/RomainDuris as Flynn Rider and Creator/IsabelleAdjani as Mother Gothel.
* CompletelyDifferentTitle:
** The Norwegian title "To på Rømmen" translates as "Two on the Run" or "Two Fugitives", apparently for keeping in line with the 'appeal to both genders'-title, and the Norwegian word for "tangled" would just sound strange.
** In many countries the movie was simply titled "Rapunzel" (or the local language version of that name), after the lead character and the fairy tale which inspired the story--instead of "Tangled" or anything other referencing hair.
** In Vietnam, it was titled "The Cloud-Haired Princess", using a common descriptor/metaphor for soft, beautiful, physically light hair.
** In Japan, the movie was titled "Rapunzel at the Top of the Tower", as a nod/shout out to the Creator/StudioGhibli movie ''Anime/PonyoOnTheCliffByTheSea''.
* CutSong: Originally, "When Will My Life Begin?" had an earlier reprise where Rapunzel sings about how she should be thankful for what she's got, but still wants to leave her tower. It can be heard on the ''Tangled'' OST, though.
* DeletedRole: In earlier versions of storyboarding, Xavier was originally to appear as a supporting character and sidekick to Rapunzel, but ultimately not included in the final version of the first film, [[https://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Xavier_(Tangled) according to the trivia section of his Disney Wiki character page.]]
* DevelopmentGag: One of the drawings during the end credits shows Rapunzel and Flynn consulting a fortune-telling monkey, in reference to a deleted scene in which Rapunzel and Flynn hitch a ride to the kingdom with a fortune teller and her pet monkey. This storyline was later used in [[WesternAnimation/TangledTheSeries Tangled the Series / Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure]].
* ExecutiveMeddling: [[http://sensesofcinema.com/2013/feature-articles/an-analysis-of-the-character-animation-in-disneys-tangled/#b2 The original director Glen Keane wanted the film to be animated in 2D]], but Disney executives David Stainton and Dick Cook said they would only approve it if it were in 3D. They eventually decided to animate it in 3D, but with a traditional 2D Disney aesthetic.
* HistoryRepeats:
** [[WesternAnimation/TheGreatMouseDetective The name of an adapted source material is changed for the film's Disney adaptation, prompting much derision and scorn]]. [[http://articles.latimes.com/1986-06-29/entertainment/ca-22_1_big-cheeseSound Sound familiar?]]
** This is the fourth time Disney launched a new golden age with a European-set fairy-tale film in which a cheerful young heroine dreams of escaping her life's circumstances, contends with an overbearing female villain, and ends up marrying a handsome male love interest. The three previous times were ''WesternAnimation/SnowWhiteAndTheSevenDwarfs'', ''{{WesternAnimation/Cinderella}}'', and ''WesternAnimation/{{The Little Mermaid|1989}}''.
* MilestoneCelebration: The Walt Disney Animation Studios VanityPlate has a LogoJoke proclamation that ''Tangled'' is the 50th movie in the Franchise/DisneyAnimatedCanon.
* PromotedFanboy: Music/MandyMoore and Creator/ZacharyLevi both grew up on the early 90s Disney Renaissance films. Both have stated that getting to star in a Disney animated film is a dream come true.[[note]]Though this was actually ''not'' Mandy Moore's first voice role in a Disney film, with that honor going to ''WesternAnimation/BrotherBear2''.[[/note]] Being in a Disney movie has also been on Creator/RonPerlman's to-do list ever since he first got into voice acting. In a twofer, Levi said that part of the reason he wanted to do it is so he could be in ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'' someday... a wish that was eventually granted to him in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsIII''! [[note]]Ironically, Mandy Moore had already been a part of ''Kingdom Hearts'', voicing [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Aerith Gainsborough]] in the [[VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI original game]], but was replaced by Mena Suvari and Kelsey Lansdowne as Aerith and Rapunzel, respectively.[[/note]]
* RealSongThemeTune: The ending theme is "Something That I Want" by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals with rewritten lyrics.
* RealityIsUnrealistic: The BloodlessCarnage when Mother Gothel stabs Eugene is actually to be expected, since Eugene is wearing a silk shirt. Silk is hard to actually pierce so when Mother Gothel stabbed him, he is actually cut by the silk wrapped around the blade, so the blood never reaches the metal.
* RoleReprise: In the Finnish version, Creator/SariAnnStolt reprises her role as Mother Gothel from the Finnish version of ''WesternAnimation/BarbieAsRapunzel''.
* SavedFromDevelopmentHell: The film spent over five years in development but it had a {{happy ending}}. Not only that, but the success of this movie also managed to save [[WesternAnimation/Frozen2013 another movie]] with it.
* ThrowItIn: According to an interview with Creator/ZacharyLevi, the bit where Flynn asks Rapunzel if he'll get superhuman strength in his hand after she healed it was ad-libbed.
* TroubledProduction: Production took six years, a change in directors, a complete rehaul of the film's original FracturedFairyTale premise, and a cost of $260 million to see the light of day. It currently ranks as the most expensive animated film ever, and the tenth most expensive film in Hollywood history. Happily for the future of [[WesternAnimation/Frozen2013 other Disney fairy tale adaptations]], it became Disney's biggest hit since ''WesternAnimation/{{The Lion King|1994}}''.
* WorkingTitle: In a rare case, the working title was actually the name of the story the film is based on: ''Literature/{{Rapunzel}}''. Then it was changed to ''Rapunzel Unbraided'', probably on the day they decided to make it more of a ''Franchise/{{Shrek}}''-style comedy. That idea was scrapped, so it became ''Rapunzel'' again. Then they changed it to ''Tangled'' presumably to make it more marketable as a ''Shrek''-styled comedy. Although some parts of the world still called it ''Rapunzel''.
