* AuthorAppeal: Character designer Dev Madan based Carmelita's design on Creator/SalmaHayek, whom he had a big crush on at the time. In other words, her status as MsFanservice was completely intentional.
* FandomLifeCycle: The original three games put it at Stage 4 being critically acclaimed [=PlayStation=] 2 classics. ''Thieves in Time'' slipped it to Stage 6a or 6b over its AccidentalDownerEnding and other flaws, but those who find its hate overblown and the popularity of the originals keep it from an outright case of 6c.
* FollowTheLeader: We have A) a nerdy MissionControl B) a communication device where the mission control and player appear as video footage on the left and right side of the screen respectively, C) a good amount of ParrotExposition, D) small crawlspaces that change the game into a first-person view, and D) common storage items that can be hidden in as long as you don't move while a guard is watching. ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid'' was still fairly new when the first game started production, after all.
* NoExportForYou: Unlike the first two games, the initial [=PS2=] release of ''Sly 3'' did not receive a Japanese localization. This was finally averted with the Japanese release of ''The Sly Collection'' in 2011, allowing Japanese players to experience the full Sucker Punch trilogy... only for the same thing to happen to ''Thieves in Time'' two years later.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** Carmelita’s voice actress has changed in ''every single game''. It's almost a RunningGag by now that while everyone else keeps their original VA, hers will always change.
** In the Japanese versions of the games, this applies to the main cast (Sly, Bentley, Murray and Carmelita) from ''Sly 3'' onwards, with the said new cast also re-voicing them in the Japanese version of the ''HD Collection'', and several [=VAs=] have also changed there as well:
*** Sly: Creator/TomokazuSeki to Creator/TakeshiKusao.
*** Bentley: Creator/MitsuakiMadono to Creator/DaisukeKishio.
*** Murray: Creator/TakashiNagasako to Hajima Iijima.
*** Carmelita: Tsubasa Makoto to Creator/MieSonozaki.
*** Panda King: [[Creator/{{Chafurin}} Chafuurin]] to [[Creator/JurotaKosugi Juurouta Kosugi]].
*** Raleigh and Arpeggio: Sukekiyo Kameyama (for the former) and Motomu Kiyokawa (for the latter) to Shouto Kashii.
*** Muggshot: Kousei Hirota to Masuo Amada.
*** Mz. Ruby and the Contessa: Masako Isobe (for the former) and Gara Takashima (for the latter) to Keiko Nemoto.
*** Clockwerk: Naomi Kusumi to Creator/KunihikoYasui.
*** Neyla: Creator/SanaeKobayashi to Miho Yamada.
*** Dimitri: Hisashi Izumi to Sousuke Komori.
*** Rajan: Creator/TakayaHashi to Shunsuke Sakuya.
*** Jean Bison: [[Creator/ShozoIizuka Shouzou Iizuka]] to Jin Urayama.
** The Finnish dub remains consistent, but the SequelGap between ''3'' & ''4'' took its toll. Bentley’s Finnish VA didn’t return for ''Sly 4'', although he returned to record the new controls for the Vita version of ''The Sly Trilogy''; while the VocalEvolution is very noticeable, he still sounds like Bentley, so why he was replaced remains a mystery - according to a fan interview with the original actor, he was never even asked to return. Dimitri’s Finnish VA died in 2011, so had Dimitri actually had any lines, he would have been voiced by somebody else.
* WordOfGay: Aside from Murray originally planned to be bi-curious in [[VideoGame/SlyCooperAndTheThieviusRaccoonus the first game]] some elements of this behavior appear in the fourth game such as wanting to cross-dress.
