* ActingForTwo: Creator/TomokazuSugita for Wolf and Chinstrap.
* ActorAllusion:
** Apparently, Panda thinks that bad guys are cool. [[Creator/JunFukuyama His voice actor]] can probably give him [[Anime/CodeGeass a pointer or two]].
** During Setsubun, Penguin says [[Creator/DaisukeOno Llama]] looks more like [[Manga/BlackButler a butler than an oni]].
** Grizzly's mother, when asked about her age, answers that she's seventeen. Her voice actress is Creator/KikukoInoue, who initiated the "I'm seventeen years old" meme. The other characters also note that she looks rather young to be Grizzly's mother, which is possibly a reference to Inoue's youthful mother roles.
* CrossdressingVoice: Rare male-as-female examples in anime: Creator/ToshiyukiMorikawa as Panda Mama, Creator/NobuyukiHiyama as a mother king penguin, Creator/KoukiMiyata as a mother red squirrel.
* ExecutiveMeddling: According to Aloha Higa's [[http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-05-29/shirokuma-cafe-manga-goes-on-indefinite-hiatus twitter]], the publisher went and commissioned the anime without her knowledge and she was repeatedly denied by the publisher and the anime studio to address her concerns. She has since come to terms with the anime studio, but has put the manga on hiatus because of her problems with the publisher. She later [[http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-07-31/shirokuma-cafe-manga-returns-from-hiatus resolved her problems]] with the publisher and got her say in the character design and scripting process.
* PlayingAgainstType: Creator/ToshiyukiMorikawa is known for playing {{Bishonen}} men like [[Anime/DevilMayCryTheAnimatedSeries Dante]], [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Sephiroth]], [[VideoGame/SengokuBasara Katakura Kojuro]] and [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureDiamondIsUnbreakable Yoshikage Kira]], so his role as Panda Mama is quite surprising.
* TechnologyMarchesOn: The fourth episode of the anime, where the characters are intrigued by a smartphone and see it as an amazing new technology was already weird to western viewers in 2013 but understandable for a Japanese work as smartphones took a little longer to catch on there due to "Galapagos Syndrome". Years after though, in a world where smartphones are now a normal and mundane commodity in most people's lives even in Japan, it comes across as dated.
