* FanNickname: In Mexico, Kyoshiro was usually called "the clown" (due the face paint) and Amakusa "the witch".
* FranchiseKiller: ''Samurai Shodown Sen'', best described as a highly stripped down [[FollowTheLeader clone]] of ''SoulCalibur''. Good luck finding a positive review.
** Overall opinion of ''Warriors Rage'' (PS) is even less favorable.
* HeyItsThatVoice: This franchise... provides a lot.
** From previous SNK voice actors that voiced the majority of SNK-era characters:
*** Masaki Usui ([[VideoGame/ArtOfFighting Ryo Sakazaki]]) as Haohmaru, Earthquake and Wan Fu in the first game.
*** Kay Inage & Mantaro Koichi ([[VideoGame/ArtOfFighting Robert Garcia]]) as Galford (Mantaro for the fourth and fifth game, the rest is done by Kay)
*** Harumi Ikoma ([[VideoGame/ArtOfFighting King]], [[VideoGame/FatalFury Blue Mary]]) as Nakoruru, Charlotte and Mizuki
*** Toshimitsu Arai ([[VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters Heidern, Rugal Bernstein]]) as Hanzo
*** Monster Maezuka ([[VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters Benimaru Nikaido, Ralf Jones]]) as Kyoshiro

*** Masahiro Nonaka ([[VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters Kyo Kusanagi]]) as Basara
*** Kaori Minami ([[KingOfFighters Vanessa]]) as Shiki
*** Eiji Yano ([[KingOfFighters Kensou]]) as Amakusa
** Those who are more known in other medias (movie included, you might as well take pity at them for getting to such installment):
*** Creator/WataruTakagi (Manga/GreatTeacherOnizuka): Galford (in the movie)
*** [[HeyItsThatGuy Reiko Chiba]] ([[Series/KyoryuSentaiZyuranger Mei/Pteraranger]] (actually a live-action role)): Nakoruru (in the movie). She does, however, voiced Cham Cham in the regular games.
*** Creator/TakehitoKoyasu (too many to list): Tam Tam (movie)

* KillerApp: The original Samurai Shodown on the Neo Geo home console.
* PortOverdosed: The original ''SamuraiShodown'' is one of the more recent games to qualify, due to SNK's near-constant stream of compilations and re-releases over the last decade.
* PromotedFanboy: Nobuhiro Watsuki, creator of popular anime and manga such as ''Manga/RurouniKenshin'', ''Manga/BusouRenkin'' and ''Manga/GunBlazeWest'', mentioned early in ''Rurouni Kenshin'' that he is hooked on the Samurai Shodown series and bought a Neo Geo CD just to play it. He continued to write ''Samurai Shodown''-related notes in subsequent releases of ''Rurouni Kenshin'' manga. In 2003, SNK hired him to design new characters for ''Samurai Shodown V''.
** Subverted by Yasuhiro Nightow, Japanese mangaka and game creator who created the anime and manga ''Manga/{{Trigun}}''. In his previous time as doujinshi artist he created a Samurai Shodown-based manga book, yet later reflected that he isn't very proud of his work for that book and requested that there be no further reprints. Ironically, the book's notoriety is what caused SNK to notice his love for the series and later lead to his job for designing Youkai Kusaregedo in Samurai Shodown V.
* TooSoon: The global bowdlerization of ''SamuraiShodown V Special'' for the home releases was apparently spurred in part by the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sasebo_slashing Sasebo Slashing]].
