* ActorAllusion:
** When Rango is flying through the air on the highway, he smacks into the windshield of a car driven by [[Literature/FearAndLoathingInLasVegas Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo]]. Also, Rango himself wears Duke's Hawaiian shirt, and dons a dress at one point in the film; [[Film/EdWood this isn't the first time a Johnny Depp character has worn a dress.]]
** When Rango is in his tank and trying out various different characters, some of them seem to be allusions to other roles of Depp's, including [[Film/PiratesOfTheCaribbean a grizzled sea captain]] and [[DonJuanDeMarco a Latin lover]].
** Rango is carried away by woodlice in a brief scene, where he later [[spoiler: finds a boat in the middle of a salt flat]]. He also runs like Jack Sparrow, leaning back, arms akimbo; and like Jack in the first ''Film/PiratesOfTheCaribbean'' movie, Rango is also armed with [[OneBulletLeft one bullet]].
** [[spoiler: The Spirit of the West]] is voiced by Timothy Olyphant--a brilliant three-pronged ShoutOut to ''Series/{{Justified}}'', ''{{Series/Deadwood}}'', and ''Film/TheGoodTheBadAndTheUgly'' as his character model is a Creator/ClintEastwood look alike.
** Also, this isn't the first time Bill Nighy has portrayed a [[Film/PiratesOfTheCaribbean feared Grim-Reaper figure]].
* AllStarCast: Creator/JohnnyDepp as Rango, Bill Nighy, Alfred Molina, Creator/AbigailBreslin and Creator/IslaFisher to name a few.
* BillingDisplacement: Abigail Breslin is billed pretty high in the credits (third or fourth) despite Priscilla not even really playing that much of a significant role in the movie. Then again, most of the other major characters in the movie were voiced by more obscure actors, and even by some of the movie's production staff.
* FakeAmerican:
** Isla Fisher as Beans.
** Bill Nighy as Jake.
* FanNickname: Metalbeak. WordOfGod has NoNameGiven for the hawk.
* First lines Rango says in the film? [[LeaningOnTheFourthWall That's Johnny Depp warming up.]]
* How many Academy Awards does Clint Eastwood have? Five. How many 'golden guardians' does the Spirit of the West, an {{expy}} of TheManWithNoName, have? Five.
* Rango's name, despite being Durango without the Du, is most likely a refference to Ringo, the main character of APistolForRingo, an SpaghettiWestern staring Giuliano Gemma.
* Appearing as Lotso in ''WesternAnimation/ToyStory3'' and the Mayor in this film means that Ned Beatty was in two Academy Award-winning animated films in a row. [[spoiler: In both cases, he plays the BigBad.]]
* Album cover artist Roger Deakins was the responsible for the film's unique look.
