!!The games:
* RecursiveAdaptation: The Pitfall segments of ''Saturday Supercade'' were based on the original Pitfall, and then Pitfall II was based on the Pitfall segments of ''Saturday Supercade'' (importing Rhonda and Quickclaw, and even some of the incidental background music).

!!The TV series:
* CreatorBacklash: Trebek thought of the show as one of these, since this was the only time he was ever stiffed by a production company... and in his home country at that! Though, Trebek at least acknowledged it whenever a contestant on ''Series/{{Jeopardy}}'' brought it up, and he kept a bounced check for $49,000 from Catalena framed on a wall in his office.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: The master tapes are either missing, or were erased. About 10 episodes are known to circulate.
* MoneyDearBoy: Alex Trebek's main motivation for hosting. He had just gone through a bitter divorce alongside the death of his father.
* TroubledProduction: Trebek had to leap over several legal hurdles in his native Canada to get the job. Notably, the Canadian performers' union, ACTRA, initially wouldn't let Trebek host because Catalena wasn't originally a signatory of ACTRA's policies. Catalena went bankrupt mid-production, resulting in many contestants not receiving their winnings. Only the first of Trebek's two paychecks cleared, and ACTRA couldn't do anything to help Trebek get his due. Trebek hired an attorney only to found out that he was a low priority for payment. One of the set builders was at the top of the list due to a mechanic's lien.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Per a trade ad, the series was originally pitched for a fall 1979 launch with John Barton (who instead ended up announcing when ''Pitfall'' went into production two years later) as host, and was going to use celebrities (with Marty Allen and Nipsey Russell among the stars who participated), but was ultimately shelved for another two years after guest Jack Carter [[NoOSHACompliance got his fingers crushed]] by grabbing onto the cage above one of the elevators during the bonus round and threatened a lawsuit.
