* {{Corpsing}}: Several of the backup dancers in "Gangnam Style" are obviously struggling to stay composed (particularly the women who get plastered with confetti in the wind tunnel scene). PSY himself is seen doing this in the outtakes reel at the end of the "Gentleman" music video after stuffing his whole mouth with tteok (a sort of rice dumpling) sausage.
* CreatorBacklash:
** PSY is definitely showing this in regards to "Gangnam Style" completely overshadowing every song that he has released since. In an interview with Billboard magazine, he clearly tried his best to very politely say that he wants to move on and leave it behind. He's also said that it's the best thing he's ever made and that he wishes to use it as a tool for world peace. [[FlipFlopOfGod Conflicted?]]
** His earlier anti-American song "Dear American"[[note]]whom he collaborated with the rock band [=N.Ex.T=][[/note]], which, in the wake of a traffic accident that left two South Korean schoolgirls dead (run over by a US APC) and the Iraqi war, sang about killing US soldiers slowly, along with their families. He was forced to express regret for the extremism, citing that anti-Americanism was quite high at the time.
* CreatorRecovery: During TurnOfTheMillennium, PSY was accused of singing explicit and suggestive songs (like ''Bird'') in his albums, and was also evading the mandatory military training at that time, despite he was working for a software development company, leading to him being a controversial and divisive rapper that made his earlier works much darker in tone. Come TheNewTens when he joined YG Entertainment due to financial reasons after leaving military, his songs like ''Music/GangnamStyle'' gained him much better reputation, as his songs, while still contain certain BlackComedy, are noticeably much cheerier and more humorous than he was before.
* OlderThanTheyThink: Most people who've encountered "Gentleman," another monster hit[[note]]It's breached the 1 billion views mark.[[/note]], probably think that the dance is original. It's actually from "Abracadabra" by Brown Eyed Girls, of which the "Gentleman" leading lady Ga-in is a member. [[ApprovalOfGod Ga-in has expressed approval of the way "Gentleman" has translated their dance move.]]
* ReadingsAreOffTheScale: "Gangnam Style" was on track to break the [=YouTube=] view counter by exceeding 2,147,483,647 views. [[UsefulNotes/PowersOfTwoMinusOne That particular number is the maximum value a 32-bit signed integer can hold.]] As a result, [=YouTube=] had to rewrite its view counters to use 64-bit integers, which can hold values of up to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807.
* ReferencedBy: ''Series/GenV'' features in its [[Recap/GenVS01E08GuardiansOfGodolkin Season 1 finale]] an imprisoned young man who is asked when was the last time he saw sun. He asks if "Gangnam Style" is "still a thing", implying over ten years.
* TwoHitWonder: In the West, anyway. "Gangnam Style" was his biggest international hit, followed by "Gentlemen". Both songs were pretty {{memetic|Mutation}}, and while his subsequent songs have been successful, they haven't received the same kind of traction as his two big hits.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Psy was originally cast as a judge for the fourth season of Series/SuperstarK... and then Gangnam Style happened, forcing him to drop out after the first live show.
** PSY's Right Now was originally scheduled to be in VideoGame/PumpItUp 2013 Fiesta 2 as promoted in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhxEFrth_i0 their trailer]]. This would have been Psy's first credited song in the game. However, that did not happen due to the unexpected timing. This was the same time as Gangnam Style's viral popularity and took priority. Instead, Gangnam Style appeared as DLC for VideoGame/JustDance 4 and VideoGame/DanceCentral 3.
