* ActingForTwo: Averted in NOLF 1, despite Kit Harris voicing both Cate Archer and Inge Wagner: they never actually talk to each other. Played straight in NOLF 2, where Creator/JenTaylor voices both Cate Archer and Isako, who talk to each other several times in-between their fights.
* BonusMaterial: The Game Of The Year edition of the first game has a long extra mission which starts after the ending credits. The [=PS2=] version adds yet another mission, a flashback on Cate's past activities.
* FranchiseKiller: ''Contract J.A.C.K.'' was so bad that Monolith gave up on the series entirely because of it.
* HeyItsThatSound:
** The games reuse the "objective-updated jingle" from ''VideoGame/ShogoMobileArmorDivision'', also made by Monolith.
** ''[=NOLF2=]'' also uses the sound effect when a level finishes loading that would later be used for the same purpose in the original ''VideoGame/FirstEncounterAssaultRecon''.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: Thanks to a complex series of acquisitions, mergers, and various other publisher mix-ups, [[http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/123151-No-One-Lives-Forever-Rights-Vanish-Into-The-Night no one actually knows who owns the rights to NOLF anymore,]] so the public is unlikely to see any kind of authorized re-release anytime soon.
* ScrewedByTheLawyers: In relation to the above, in 2015, Creator/NightdiveStudios [[https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20150227/14420330165/no-copyright-lives-forever-how-apathy-ip-rights-holders-about-their-copyrights-killed-game-re-release.shtml tried sorting the rights mess out and pushing for a re-release of both games]]. The effort ended with potential rights owners [[Creator/TwentiethCenturyStudios 20th Century Fox]][[note]]original publishers of the Windows version of the first game through their first video game branch Fox Interactive; merged with Creator/{{Disney}} since the inquiry[[/note]], Creator/{{Activision}}[[note]]who inherited the Fox Interactive assets through a series of mergers; to merge with Microsoft's Creator/XboxGameStudios in 2023 after the inquiry[[/note]] and Monolith's parent company Creator/WarnerBrosInteractiveEntertainment all sending a legal letter which basically said, "We think we own the rights but it's not worth the expense currently to go through our archives to find out for sure, but if you try to use this intellectual property, we will sue you."
* TheOtherDarrin: Cate Archer's voice actress was switched between the first and second games; in the second game, she's voiced by the very well known Jen Taylor.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: The game was originally set to be a straight spy thriller set in the '60s, with no humor involved. MGM/UA warned they would sue with the Film/JamesBond-like male secret agent Monolith had initially planned, leading to the creation of Cate Archer and, later, the shift towards parody.
