!! [[Film/NakedLunch The Film]]:

* BoxOfficeBomb: -- Budget, $17-18 million. Box office, $2,641,357. This film baffled ''Series/SiskelAndEbert'' on what to say about it, and its bizarre concept very likely made it hard to succeed.
* DevelopmentHell: Attempts at filming ''Literature/NakedLunch'' have been made, on and off, since the 1960s.
* DuelingMovies: The film shares a lot of similarities with ''Film/{{Kafka}}'', another film released in 1991. That one focused on Creator/FranzKafka instead, and was also a loose adaptation of his overal body of work with the writer's avatar as the protagonist. Both even have Creator/IanHolm in them!

!! [[Literature/NakedLunch The Book]]:

* BannedInChina: In 1965, this was the last major work of literature to get unbanned in the American city of Boston (which [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banned_in_Boston banned quite a lot of things]].)
* DeletedScene: The ''Restored Text'' edition of Naked Lunch contains an appendix that collects some material omitted from the original version of the novel, most memorably the conclusion to Carl's examination by Dr. Benway.
* FakeAmerican: Salvador Hassan O'Leary, whose real accent suggests an Italian origin, but who picked up a Texan accent and the habit of wearing cowboy boots and a ten-gallon hat at all times during his time in the oil-drilling business.
* FakeBrit: A.J., whose British accent 'waned with the British empire'.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: At one point, Music/FrankZappa approached Burroughs with the idea of adapting the novel as a musical - an idea that Burroughs quite liked.
