* NewbieBoom: By the end of TheNewTens, Crunchyroll and Funimation made the show easily accessible for the first time in nearly 20 years, creating a wealth of interest in the series and an explosion of people discovering it for the first time.
* NoExportForYou: The After Phase epilogue was previously exclusive to the final Japanese DVD as an extra until the HD Remaster, where it was added to the final episode on Sunrise' official Website/YouTube channel. For unknown reasons, though, it remains unavailable on Hulu, Crunchyroll and Funimation.
* NonSingingVoice: In Ocean's English dub, Lacus's dialogue was provided by Creator/ChantalStrand while Creator/JillianMichaels performed the character's songs.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** Creator/RomiPark replaced Mami Matsui as the voice of Nicol Amalfi for the Compilation Movies, due to Matsui being retired from voice work at the time.
** For the English version of the HD Remaster, Creator/NYAVPost redubbed the series, alongside ''Gundam SEED Destiny''. As a result, ''everyone'' was inevitably recast, both living and dead. For example, Kira Yamato, Athrun Zala, Lacus Clyne, Cagalli Yula Attha and Murrue Ramius, respectively voiced in the original dub by Creator/MattHill, Creator/SamuelVincent, Creator/ChantalStrand, Vanessa Morley and Lisa Ann Beley, are now voiced by Creator/MaxMittelman, Creator/ChrisHackney, Creator/StephanieSheh, Creator/CheramiLeigh and Creator/CarrieKeranen.
* ProducedByCastMember: In the English dub of the HD remaster:
** Creator/StephanieSheh was one of the ADR producers, as well as the speaking and singing voice of Lacus.
** Creator/ErinFitzgerald (Eileen Canaver and Kira's mother) was a production assistant.
* ProductionPosse: The English cast for the HD remaster reused quite a few voice actors from previous ''Gundam'' entries dubbed by Creator/NYAVPost. Creator/StephanieSheh had four ''Gundam'' dubs under her belt (''Unicorn'', ''Narrative'', the ''Thunderbolt'' films, and ''The Origin'') by the time the re-dub premiered.
* PromotedFanboy: Creator/SoichiroHoshi (Kira) and Creator/RieTanaka (Lacus) confirmed at their appearance at Sakura-Con 2024 in Seattle that they were fans of the Gundam franchise prior to being cast in their respective roles.
** Hoshi said that he watched all of the Gundam shows up to that point, and even built Gunpla.
** Tanaka became a fan after she watched ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing'' during her high school days, and had a crush on the male lead, Heero Yuy.
* RealLifeRelative: In the original English dubbed version, Creator/SamuelVincent and his late younger brother, Creator/GabeKhouth, played Athrun and Nicol, respectively.
* ReferencedBy: The scene in the first ''Gundam SEED: Special Edition'' TV movie and episode 15 of the HD Remaster, where Kira and Flay had sex, would later be referenced in episode 22 of ''Anime/CrossAnge'', where Fukuda served as Creative Producer.
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: The anime suffered this on Creator/CartoonNetwork. Originally aired at 10:30PM on Creator/{{Toonami}} with decent advertising, but its low ratings caused it to be shafted to a non-Toonami slot at ''1:00AM on Fridays'' [[InvisibleAdvertising without much, if any, warning]].
* TheShelfOfMovieLanguishment: The HD Remaster's English dub by Creator/NYAVPost was announced in the mid-2010's, with the English cast being announced in 2017. It wasn't released until three years later near the end of 2020.
* UnderageCasting: In the original dub, 30-year-old Muruta Azrael was voiced by the then 19-year-old Creator/AndrewFrancis. A fitting choice, considering the character's [[PsychopathicManchild personality]].
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The original script called for the Strike Rouge to be built by the Earth Alliance instead of Orb, with Azrael placing ''Flay'' as its pilot due to her hatred of Coordinators and hoping to use her position as a FallenPrincess to stir up pro Alliance sentiment.
** Another rejected concept for the ending involved Azrael sending Flay back to the ''Archangel'' with [[WhyAmITicking a bomb implanted inside her]], and her and Sai dying outside the ship in order to spare the others.
** Also in the same interview, Kira was originally going to be killed off, and Athrun would lose an arm in the final episode.
** Another idea for the ending would be an ending that was even more of a bloodbath than the actual ending, with Athrun (while still being maimed in this version as well) apparently being the only surviving member of the main cast. Unlike the other examples, evidence from both the show and interviews suggests that this was indeed going to be the ending of the series and only was averted because [[WagTheDirector the voice actors got too attached to their characters]] and [[PopularityPower the immense popularity of the Seed characters among the viewers.]]
** Before settling with ''Gundam SEED'', Fukuda thought of calling the series ''Gundam SIN''. Since that would have never worked in the USA, it was quickly changed.
** There were plans to produce a ''Gundam SEED'' film, which would also function as the series' GrandFinale. Unfortunately, development was postponed after Chiaki Morosawa's fatal aortic dissection in 2016, making a true follow-up unlikely... at least until 2021 came along and revealed that the movie is indeed being made.
** While promoting ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDFreedom'', Creator/RieTanaka revealed at her appearance at Sakura-Con 2024 in Seattle that she originally auditioned for Flay Allster, until she was cast as Lacus after she sang one of her songs, “In This Quiet Night”.
* WriterRevolt: Episode 16 (15 in the HD Remaster) implied Kira and Flay had sex the night before, causing controversy among Japanese parents and resulting in the directors getting punished. When the Special Edition (relevant content included in the HD Remaster too) was released, the show's staff made the implications Kira and Flay had sex ''more explicit'' than it had been in the original airing.
* WrittenByCastMember: In the English dub of the HD Remaster:
** Christian La Monte was the ADR scriptwriter as well as the voice of Dalida Lolaha Chandra II.
** Creator/StephanieSheh wrote the English lyrics to Lacus's songs.
