!!The Video Game

* {{Bowdlerise}}: The German version renamed the Nazis to "fascists", due to Germany's heavy laws about media dealing with the Third Reich. It's more subtle than it seems -- Russians ''do'' often refer to Nazis as just "fascists".
* {{Defictionalization}}: The logo of the [[http://metrovideogame.wikia.com/wiki/The_Rangers_of_the_Order Rangers/Spartan Order]] was adopted by a real military formation, the Sparta Battalion of the Donetsk People's Republic.
* DuelingGames:
** Compare with ''VideoGame/{{Fallout 3}}'', in which a youth has lived underground their entire life, and must embark on TheQuest to the surface and beyond.
** It's basically ''VideoGame/{{STALKER}}'', except [[PipeShooter more linear]]. Bonus points for 4A Games actually being founded by a couple of people who were involved with ''S.T.A.L.K.E.R'''s development, specifically the underground lab levels. Both are also based on sci-fi novels by Russian authors. In the Russian version, [[IdiosyncraticDifficultyLevels the "Ranger" difficulty levels are actually called "Stalker" levels]], probably to indicate [[HarderThanHard how much fun you'll have playing them]].
** Plot-wise it's also reminiscent of ''VideoGame/HellgateLondon'', which had pretty much the same premise, only with demons instead of mutants.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: The original version of the game was removed from digital distribution upon the release of ''Metro 2033 Redux'', even though ''Redux'' was essentially a complete remake of the game rather than a remaster. This means anyone wanting to experience the original ''Metro 2033'' will have to find a Steam key or get the game on Xbox 360, and the Steam version of the Ranger DLC is completely lost.
* TheOtherDarrin: Artyom's voice actor was replaced in ''Metro: Last Light'', and said actor also re-dubbed all of Artyom's chapter intro dialogue in the ''Redux'' version. In addition, several voice actors were also replaced in ''Redux''.
