* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: She seems to view herself as one.
-->"Really, I'm incredibly disjointed and not candid. Just in general, my thoughts tend to come out in little spurts that don't necessarily connect. If you hang around long enough, you can find the linear path."
* CreatorBacklash: Has not been quiet about how much she disliked her fame from ''Twilight''. After the franchise ended, she went back to indie projects with the occasional studio picture.
* TheDanza: In ''Cold Creek Manor'', she played a character called Kristen Tilson.
* DawsonCasting:
** She turned eighteen while filming the first ''Twilight'' movie and continued to play Bella across four more. Bella is eighteen by the end of the franchise, while Kristen was in her early twenties.
** Earlier in ''Film/TheYellowHandkerchief'' she was eighteen playing a fifteen-year-old.
** In ''Film/TheRunaways'' she's nineteen playing Joan Jett at seventeen. But the film covers two years, matching Kristen's age with Joan's by the end.
* DoingItForTheArt: She agreed to a salary of less than $200,000 for her role as Marylou in the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac's ''Literature/OnTheRoad'' after its budget was drastically cut, purely out of love for the novel.
* DyeingForYourArt:
** For her role as a runaway teenage stripper in ''Welcome to the Rileys'', she learned how to pole dance, deprived herself of sleep, chain-smoked, and ate mostly junk food. As a result her body and legs were covered with bruises, her skin was blemished, and she constantly looked tired.
** She cut and dyed her hair into Joan Jett's signature style for ''Film/TheRunaways''.
* EnforcedMethodActing: ''Welcome to the Rileys'' was her first film after turning eighteen, and thus the first project where she didn't have guardians or tutors with her. She felt that added to her performance as a runaway living alone.
* FakeBrit: As seen in her ''Film/SnowWhiteAndTheHuntsman'', she's actually pretty good at it, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbM6KWSftzU&feature=related as this clip from Conan showcases]].
* FunnyCharacterBoringActor: Inverted. She's quite the jokester in real life, whereas her most famous character tends to be dull.
* IAmNotSpock: As far as her fans, her haters, and the media (especially the tabloids) are concerned, she and Bella Swan are the same person.
* PlayingAgainstType:
** Best known for playing the virginal, moody and self-conscious Bella, Stewart plays the sensual, free-spirited Marylou in the film adaptation of ''Literature/OnTheRoad''.
** She is also a ''lot'' livelier as the teenage sister in ''Film/{{Zathura}}'' than viewers who only know her as Bella would expect. [[spoiler: When she isn't frozen solid, that is.]]
* RomanceOnTheSet:
** She and Robert Pattinson had an on-off romance while filming the ''Twilight'' movies.
** Rather scandalously with Rupert Sanders on ''Film/SnowWhiteAndTheHuntsman'', as the two were both in relationships.
* SheReallyCanAct: Zig-Zagged. She was pegged as a rising talent in movies like ''Panic Room'' and ''Zathura'', but her casting in the ''Twilight'' series made many believe she [[DullSurprise lacked expressiveness or range]]. Then she became the first American actress (and only the second American actor) ever to win a César Award (basically, the French Oscars), for her performance in ''Film/CloudsOfSilsMaria''; as far as the critics concerned, all her ''Twilight'' sins were forgotten, or at any rate blamed on bad writing. The fandom is taking a little longer to catch up.
* StarMakingRole: She was hailed as an up-and-coming talent from indie films, but ''Twilight'' made her a household name.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: She claims she was offered script to the sequel to ''Film/SnowWhiteAndTheHuntsman'' but turned them down, not finding them to be very good. It eventually materialised as ''Film/TheHuntsmanWintersWar'' in which Snow White only appears in archive footage and from behind, played by an obvious body double.
