* At the end of the [[http://youtu.be/Kxl4O6tEKHw English title sequence]], when the letters "Inspector" come down over "Gadget" with the Inspector forming the "I", you may notice that "Inspector" is indented slightly, which seems odd - most titles are left-justified or centered. As you can see in the [[http://youtu.be/JxNN86c4OoM German Version of the opening]], the indentation is gone because of the extra letter in the different spelling - "Inspecteur".
* In the opening credits, the scene of the gadgetmobile transforming is from either episode 1-3 "The Farm" or 1-6 "Health Spa".
* In the end credits, the scene of Chief Quimby in the garbage can and Gadget falling backwards past a railing are from the episode 1-7 "The Boat". The scene of the seagull picking at Gadget in the water is possibly from a deleted scene from this episode.
* The urban legend that Dr. Claw and Chief Quimby are the same person comes from the closing credits, in which Dr. Claw's voice track accompanies a shot of Chief Quimby. In the very different original credits from "Gadget in Winterland" (the pilot), Gadget caught up to Dr. Claw only to reveal that his foe had once again escaped. The "I'll get you..." line made perfect sense in context, but led to some misunderstandings when the series' "standard" credits sequence was instituted.

!!The cartoon:
* ActorAllusion: The show is practically a cartoon version of ''Series/GetSmart'', so who better to be Gadget's voice than Don Adams himself?
* DevelopmentHell: A DarkerAndEdgier ContinuityReboot was planned to premiere in 2009, but so far nothing has come of it except for [[http://inspector-gadget.net/news/new-inspector-gadget-in-2009 some concept art]].
** It may have been scrapped due to [=DiC=] getting bought out by Cookie Jar Entertainment around that time.
* ExecutiveMeddling: In the pilot episode, "Winter Olympics", Inspector Gadget had a mustache. DiC Entertainment had to remove the mustache for the rest of the series after MGM threatened to sue them for Gadget looking too much like [[Franchise/ThePinkPanther Inspector Clouseau]]. In later airings of the pilot, a scene was redubbed explaining that Gadget's mustache was fake.
* FakeBrit: Gadget in the {{pilot}}. This was dubbed over with Don Adams' rendition in later airings.
* HeyItsThatVoice: Who better to voice a bungling, inept police agent than the man who played [[Series/GetSmart Maxwell Smart]]?
** Penny was also one of the first roles for [[Creator/CreeSummer "Cree Summer Francks"]] (as she was knowna at the time). She would later voice Penny in a ''RobotChicken'' parody of the show. (It sounds a lot more like her recent roles, though.)
** Creator/FrankWelker as Brain, the commercial bumper announcer, and Dr. Claw. The voice he uses here for Dr. Claw is actually a little electronic modulation away from the voice of [[TransformersGeneration1 Soundwave]]. He uses the exact same voice for Soundwave in ''[[{{Film/Transformers}} Revenge of the Fallen]]''.
** In the Japanese dub, Creator/TesshoGenda is Gadget and YumiTakada is Penny, being in both cases they are PlayingAgainstType.
** Corporal Capeman would later be known as [[TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles1987 Michaelangelo and Shredder]].
** Chief Quimby was [[WesternAnimation/TheFlintstones Mr. Slate in the original pilot]], [[Franchise/CareBears Braveheart Lion in the first season]] and [[MauriceLamarche Maurice Lamarche]] in the second season.
* InternationalCoproduction: Between Creator/DICEntertainment in both the USA and France, Creator/{{Nelvana}} in Canada (first season only), Creator/TMSEntertainment in Japan and WangFilmProductions in Taiwan.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: the series got a few single episode VHS releases that are now out of print. It also got a few episodes released on 2 compilation [=DVDs=] which are also out of print. The first season WAS released in 2006 by Creator/ShoutFactory but it's, you guessed it: out of print, and quite pricy, most sets go for about $50 apiece. There was also a DVD from CookieJarEntertainment that has the first 10 episodes from season 2 but again like everything else, it too is out of print. The series was available on Netflix for a while but it was taken off last year. The first 65 episodes are available as the first 3 seasons on iTunes though. And the series is beyond easy to find on YouTube. Though finding the original version of The Winter Olympics pilot will be quite a task as only a clip of it is available on YouTube.
** Currently averted now that the entire series has been released on DVD in October 2013 and the final season was released on iTunes.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** FakeBrit Gadget from the pilot was voiced by Gary Owens in the first draft. A revision had him voiced by Jesse White using an impersonation of Don Adams. Finally, Don Adams himself played the role in the third and final version of the pilot.
*** Maurice [=LaMarche=] played Gadget in GadgetAndTheGadgetinis and the animated direct-to-video films ''Inspector Gadget's Last Case'' and ''Inspector Gadget's Biggest Caper Ever''.
** Whenever Frank Welker wasn't available, Dr. Claw was voiced by Don Francks ([[RealLifeRelative Cree Summer's dad]]).
*** Brian Drummond provided Dr. Claw's voice in GadgetAndTheGadgetinis and the DTV movies ''Inspector Gadget's Last Case'' and ''Inspector Gadget's Biggest Caper Ever''.
** In the pilot, Penny was voiced by Creator/MonaMarshall. In the second season, Holly Berger took over the role from Cree Summer.
*** She was also played by Erica Horn in the 1992 Christmas special and by Tegan Moss in GadgetAndTheGadgetinis and the DTV movies "Inspector Gadget's Last Case" and "Inspector Gadget's Biggest Caper Ever".
** Lee Tockar provided Brain's vocal effects in his guest appearance on GadgetAndTheGadgetinis as well as the two animated DTV films "Inspector Gadget's Last Case" and "Inspector Gadget's Biggest Caper Ever".
** Dan Hennessey voiced the Chief in the first season. The second season had Maurice [=LaMarche=] take up the role.
* RecycledScript
* TalkingToHimself: Frank Welker plays both Dr. Claw and Brain. (This is why Dr. Claw [[HeyItsThatVoice sounds just like]] Soundwave from ''WesternAnimation/TheTransformers''; in fact, in about four [[TransformersGeneration1 G1]] episodes and ''[[{{Film/Transformers}} Revenge of the Fallen]]'', the vocorder fails, and he really sounds like Dr. Claw.)
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: The alleged DarkerAndEdgier ContinuityReboot that's been stuck in DevelopmentHell. Which would have had Gadget in a more {{Animesque}} style and apparently fighting ghosts.
** According to MauriceLamarche [[http://robpaulsenlive.com/007-TalkingToonsWithRobPaulsen-7-15-11.mp3 in this podcast]], JimCarrey auditioned for the voice of Corporal Capeman.

!!The film:
* ActorAllusion: Creator/MatthewBroderick as Robo-Gadget doing an impression of a [[Film/{{Godzilla 1998}} certain rampaging reptile]].
* ExecutiveMeddling: The first film suffered from it as over thirty minutes were cut from the film before. Many of the cut scenes can be seen in the trailer or as flashbacks in the final cut.
** Around 10 minutes were cut from ''2'', partially to obtain a G rating.
* HeyItsThatGuy / HeyItsThatVoice:
** Since this is a Disney movie we're talking about, [[Disney/TheLionKing Simba]] is Inspector Gadget!
*** Speaking of ''The Lion King'', Nuka is Kramer.
** [[WesternAnimation/{{Shrek}} Prince Charming]] is Claw.
** [[TilDeath Joy Stark]] is Brenda. And [[Series/StarTrekDeepSpaceNine Odo]] is her dad.
** [[Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer Dawn Summers]] is Penny.
** [[Series/GetSmart Maxwell Smart]] -- who was the inspiration of and the voice actor of the original Inspector Gadget -- voices Brain in a short snippet during the credits.
*** Speaking of the end credits, the minion support group at the end consists of Creator/MrT, Richard Kiel and one of the guys who played an Ewok in ReturnOfTheJedi.
** One of TheOriginalKingsOfComedy is a crimefighting car and wisecracking [[TheSnarkKnight Snark Knight]].
** In the second, [[TheMatrix the Train Man]] is Baxter.
* TheOtherDarrin: Matthew Broderick gets replaced with French Stewart (y'know, the guy from ''ThirdRockFromTheSun'') in the sequel.
** Also: Dabney Coleman/Mark Mitchell (the Chief), Cheri Oteri/Sigrid Thornton (Mayor Wilson), Michelle Trachtenberg/Caitlin Wachs (Penny), and Rupert Everett/Tony Martin (Sanford Scolex/Claw).
* PlayingAgainstType: Dabney Coleman as a ReasonableAuthorityFigure, as opposed to his more typical role type as more smarmy, morally bankrupt characters, such as his roles as philandering father Nelson Fox in ''YouveGotMail'' and autocratic boss Franklin Hart, Jr. in ''NineToFive''.
** Coleman also does this to a degree in ''TheBeverlyHillbillies'', where he plays Mr. Drysdale. In the film, unlike in the series, it's an ''employee'' of Drysdale who's scheming to exploit the Clampetts, and Drysdale actually reacts in horror when he learns that one of his own employees is attempting to embezzle his most recent (and fairly unusual) clients.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Executive producer Creator/StevenSpielberg wanted either Chevy Chase or Creator/SteveMartin to play Gadget.
** Creator/BrendanFraser was also considered for the role of Gadget, but turned it down to work on ''Film/GeorgeOfTheJungle''.
** Creator/TimCurry was considered for the role of Claw.
** Creator/LindsayLohan turned down the role of Penny due to working on ''Film/TheParentTrap''.
