* ActorAllusion: Who knows if this was on purpose, but as Phil is an Expy (or at the very least an AffectionateParody) of Mickey from the Rocky films, this isn't the first time Danny DeVito has played a character made popular by Burgess Meredith...
** In one episode of the TV series, Creator/DanCastellaneta voices a certain reporter named Homer.
* AllStarCast: The TV series. The question isn't finding characters voiced by known/famous actors, but finding characters who aren't. Look up a voice actor's list. It's just oozing with famous titles. It all came up to be because James Woods wanted to return and thus most of the original cast jumped along, and others got interested.
* AllThereInTheManual: The Titan's names are Stratos, Lythos, Pyros, and, rather unfittingly for his powers, Hydros.
** Likewise, unless you know your Greek mythology, the five Muses are Thalia (muse of Comedy and the plump one), Melpomene (muse of Tragedy and the one with the long, curly hair), Calliope (muse of Epic Poetry and the leader), Clio (muse of History and with the pony tail), and Terpsichore (muse of dance and choral poetry, the one in the two-piece toga).
* HeyItsThatVoice: Hades is James Woods; Phil is Danny [=DeVito=]; Hermes is Paul Shaffer, best known for being DavidLetterman's band leader on The Late Show with David Letterman (though Shaffer got his start as the leader of Saturday Night Lives band in the 1970s and was a feature player during the 1979-1980 season). And Zeus is Rip Dodgeball Torn!
** The best part? Come time for RecycledTheSeries, Hades is still James Woods. And whenever Hades shows up in HouseOfMouse it's James Woods (well, except for "House of Villains", where he has all of two singing lines, so RobPaulsen fills in). And in the KingdomHearts series it's James Woods again (well, except for VideoGame/KingdomHeartsChainOfMemories and VideoGame/KingdomHeartsCoded, where his only lines are BossBanter because of technical limitations, so archival clips of James Woods fill in). Woods loved doing the voice of Hades (partially because of his kids and partially because he loved the character) so much that he made a deal with Disney to do the voice of the character for whatever salary they ask for until his death.
** The fat singing Muse would later go on to play Bubbie the whale.
** Ricky Martin played Hercules for the Latin American Dub. Tatiana, a children's television show host famous for her songs, played Megara also in the Latin American Dub.
** Meg goes on to be snarky and independent some more as Rin/Lin in Anime/SpiritedAway.
*** She also voices Gina, an independent woman that sings in the club she owns in Anime/PorcoRosso.
** For fans of stand-up comedy, the distinctively-voiced Creator/BobcatGoldthwait is Pain and Sandra Bernhard is Cassandra.
** And for musical theatre folks, Hercules' singing voice is Carmen Ghia.
** Panic is MaxHeadroom (or for the younger set, 2009}} the White Knight and Pestilence.)
** The centaur Nessus and the Fat Thebian are voiced by JimCummings, who was also Rasul in Disney/Aladdin, another Disney comedy directed by Ron and Jon.
** Lachesis (the Fate with the spider in her nose) is Lady Kluck, Atropos (the short, fat one with one eye) was Flotsam and Jetsam, and Clotho is Wiress.
** Also, in the animated series, James Woods' return brought many, many famous voices as guests.
** KeithDavid is Apollo.
** MervGriffin also plays a fictional "Merv Griffon" who interviews Herc as well in an episode.
** Scott Weinger, Linda Larkin, Jonathan Freeman and Frank Welker reprise their "Aladdin" roles as Aladdin, Jasmine, Jafar and Abu for "Hercules and the Arabian Night," which was the Hercules-Aladdin crossover episode.
** Harry Solomon is Icarus, Batman is Adonis, and Ariel is Helen of Troy for the series.
** Echidna and Typhon are two titans who were the Parents of all Monsters, were also then voiced by another "Live!" pair--Kathie Lee Gifford and Regis Philbin.
** Creator/WilliamShatner appeared as Jason, leader of the Argonauts.
** Jimmy Cooper is a definite zero, but hero not so much.
** And Helen of Troy, voiced by Jodi Benson is dressed as a mermaid in a homecoming parade
** In "Hercules and the Kids", that wouldn't be the first time Ryan O'Donohue, Pamela Segall, and Courtland Mead voiced a group of kids on a Disney cartoon.
** Idina Menzel as a vamp who goes though men like wet wipes in "Song of Circe".
** Wink Martindale (game show host extraodinare) as The Sphinx.
** MervGriffin as a Griffin talk show host.
** Steven Weber as Odyssseus, famous for his long journey.
** EdAsner as Mentor, yet another tough cop type.
** Ben Stein was Trivia (Try-vee-ah), a monotone and bored God who thought up a plan to counter Hades' Pool Party.
** In Sweden, Megara is Linda, Ariel, and Jasmine.
** Artemis was Music/RebaMcEntire.
** Aphrodite was Friends Lisa Kudrow.
** Galatea appeared in one episode, voiced by Creator/JenniferAniston.
** Creator/DomDeLuise is Bacchus.
** Reno 911 Lt. Dangle is Atlas.
** Carl Reiner is Prometheus.
** Niles Crane is Daedelus.
** Mrs. Brady is Demeter.
** Creator/BettyWhite is Hestia.
** Dr. Katz is Morpheus.
** Idina Menzel is Circe.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: One VHS tape, "Zero to Hero", was released. It is basically an expanded version of the episode "Hercules and the Yearbook", with roughly three full episodes to fill out the time. It served as a pilot for the series. The rest of the series has not been released on any home video format.
* MissingEpisode: At least four episodes were removed from rotation following 9/11, most notably Hercules and the Hostage Crisis which involved terrorists taking over Prometheus Academy, which was almost identical to the Columbine High School massacre.
* TheOtherDarrin[=/=]PoorMansSubstitute: Most of the movie's cast did return for the series, except for Charlton Heston, Rip Torn, and Danny [=DeVito=].
** An unusual, marginal example: Tate Donovan returns as Hercules, but he portrays the younger version of the character, who was voiced by Josh Keaton in the movie.
** Amanda Plummer (the voice of Clotho, one of the Fates) was replaced by Creator/TressMacNeille.
* PlayingAgainstType: Non-acting example: The art director was Gerald Scarfe, the same person behind the nightmarish animation of TheWall.
* RetroactiveRecognition: Idina Menzel was already pretty well-known in the late 90s thanks to Rent, but her guest spot as Circe in the show is even funnier now, since she went on to appear in Enchanted two later Disney movies.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: John Lithgow and Jack Nicholson were both offered the role of Hades, but turned it down.
** A bit of a HilariousInHindsight once you know that James Woods was offered the role of TheJoker, the role that Nicholson played, in the 1989 Batman film.
** Hades was originally written to speak more slowly and menacingly, but Disney liked Woods' take on him so much that they changed the character.
