* AccidentallyCorrectWriting: [[https://www.dailydot.com/irl/rowling-harry-potter-gender-identity-tweet-thread/ A Twitter thread]] observed that the "Battle of the Seven Potters" sequence inexplicably manages to display a better grasp of gender identity and pronoun preference than its now-infamously transphobic author. Hermione, a cisgender female, takes Polyjuice Potion to transform into Harry, and given that she complains about such details as getting Harry's terrible eyesight, we have no reason to believe her genitals didn't also change for the duration. Nevertheless, Harry's InternalMonologue continues to correctly refer to her in the feminine, as her gender identity didn't change even though her physical sex presumably did.
* ActingForTwo:
** Creator/DanielRadcliffe portrays Harry Potter as well as the Polyjuice Potion disguises used by Ron, Fred and George Weasley, Mundungus Fletcher, Hermione Granger and Fleur Delacour.
** Steffan Rhodri, David O'Hara and Sophie Thompson respectively play Reginald Cattermole, Albert Runcorn and Mafalda Hopkirk, as well as the physical forms Ron, Harry and Hermione shape-shift into when they infiltrate the Ministry of Magic.
** Filius Flitwick and Griphook are both played by Creator/WarwickDavis.
** Creator/HelenaBonhamCarter portrays Bellatrix Lestrange and the form Hermione changes into via Polyjuice Potion in ''Part II''.
** In the Brazilian dub, Creator/MarioMonjardim voices both Gregorovitch and Grindelwald, and Isaac Schneider voices both Dobby and Flitwick (though the latter two don't appear in the same part)
* ActorInspiredElement: For the scene where we get to see Hermione's bedroom, Emma Watson told the set department to add more books. They obliged.
* AwesomeDearBoy: Creator/BillNighy quickly signed up when he was approached for the role of Rufus Scrimgeour and joked that he didn't want to be "the only English actor not to be in ''Harry Potter''."
* BillingDisplacement: Creator/MichaelGambon only has one quick scene in ''Part 1'' (as Dumbledore's corpse, no less) but nevertheless receives star billing.
* {{Blooper}}:
** Despite Ron being too afraid to use [[TheScottishTrope Voldemort's name]] throughout the series, he says it twice in ''Deathly Hallows'', and nobody else reacts: once when he sarcastically tells Hermione, "I forgot we’ll be hunting down Voldemort in a mobile library," and later when he asks Remus Lupin, "Why didn’t Voldemort declare himself Minister for Magic?"
** [[https://web.archive.org/web/20130627212910im_/http://media.mugglenet.com/i//movie7/books/page_lifeandlies.jpg The prop book]] in Bathilda's house has several mistakes in it: Bathilda's name is written as "Batholith", Kendra is "Canard", Godric's Hollow is "Godlike's Hollow", and Hogwarts is "Hog warts".
* CompletelyDifferentTitle: Given that ''Deathly Hallows'' is nigh untranslatable, foreign versions use their local language's equivalent of an alternate title, ''Harry Potter and the Relics of Death''.
* ContentLeak: [[http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/18/us/18potter.html The book was leaked online]] via photos of each page four days prior to the release. "Spoi Bois", as the WebVideo/InternetHistorian has called them, took advantage of these leaks, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t95aLo7R1NM and the spoiler raids ran wild]] come the proper book release date.
* CreatorBacklash:
** Alan Rickman [[https://movieweb.com/alan-rickman-journal-harry-potter/ wasn’t pleased]] at first with the manner of [[spoiler:Snape’s death]], until his then-future wife Rima Horton pointed out that if Voldemort [[spoiler:killed Snape with Avada Kedavra, he wouldn’t be able to have a prolonged, dramatic death scene to act in.]]
** Rickman was also displeased with shooting it, feeling it was over-directed by Yates and thinking it blended in awkwardly with the rest of the film.
* CreatorBreakdown: The revelation that Harry [[spoiler: was a Horcrux and his coming to terms with having to die]] coincided with [[WordOfGod Rowling struggling with her faith and belief in the afterlife.]]
* DeletedRole: Stanislav Ianevski filmed scenes at the wedding as Viktor Krum. They ended up on the cutting room floor. Production stills show him dancing with Emma Watson.
* DeletedScene:
** Near the beginning in Part I, where Dudley says goodbye to Harry and makes amends for all the bullying he used to do.
** A scene was filmed for Part I where Tonks tells Molly she's pregnant, but it was cut for time. In a FreezeFrameBonus you can see her wearing a maternity gown at Bill and Fleur's wedding.
** A deleted scene for ''Deathly Hallows: Part II'' would've shown Hagrid fighting the Death Eaters and ultimately being captured by them; as this was removed, Hagrid's first appearance is simply him already captured.
* EarlyDraftTieIn: The [[VideoGame/HarryPotterAndTheDeathlyHallows tie-in video game]] for ''Part 2'' includes two moments that were filmed for the movie but cut:
** Draco giving his wand to Harry during the climax.
** This exchange, which also [[MissingTrailerScene appears in the trailer]]:
--->'''Voldemort:''' Why do you live?\\
'''Harry:''' Because I have something worth living for.
* FakeBrit:
** Sort of. Creator/KellyMacdonald is Scottish and adopts an IAmVeryBritish accent for Helena Ravenclaw. Oddly enough Rowena Ravenclaw is described as "fair Ravenclaw from Glen", implying she was Scottish.
** Straighter example with Creator/DomhnallGleeson (Irish) who puts on an English accent as Bill Weasley. It sounds quite close to a stage school cockney accent, but he'd improve significantly in his later roles.
* FakeIrish: Welsh actor Creator/RhysIfans does an Irish accent for Xenophilius Lovegood. His nationality is not mentioned in the books (and the audio books give him an English accent), but Creator/EvannaLynch's Irish portrayal of Luna is so accepted that her father becomes Irish too.
* FollowTheLeader: Following WB's decision to split this book into two films, many other franchises based off YA books did the same. ''{{Film/Twilight}}'', ''Film/TheHungerGames'' and ''{{Literature/Divergent}}'' for one. ''Film/AvengersInfinityWar'' likewise originally had 'Part 1' in the title, before the trend died out after ''The Divergent Series: Allegiant'' bombed[[labelnote:*]](''Infinity War Part II'' was eventually renamed ''Film/AvengersEndgame'')[[/labelnote]]; similarly, ''Film/JusticeLeague2017'' was originally planned to be a two-part film before being rewritten as a singular instalment ([[Film/ZackSnydersJusticeLeague the director's cut of which]] clocks in at ''four hours'').
** The official games were made when [[TakeCover cover-focused shooters]] were at the height of their popularity, and their gameplay can basically be described as "''Gears of War'' with magic spells".
* LoopingLines:
** In the scenes where Harry, Ron and Hermione use Polyjuice to respectively impersonate Reginald, Albert and Mafalda, David O'Hara, Steffan Rhodri and Sophie Thompson play them on-set, then Creator/DanielRadcliffe, Creator/RupertGrint and Creator/EmmaWatson re-recorded their dialogue in post-production.
** In a similar vein, for when the Weasleys, Hermione, Mundungus, and Fleur use Polyjuice to impersonate Harry, Radcliffe portrayed them on-set, then Grint, Watson, James and Oliver Phelps, Andy Linden, and Clémence Poésy looped their lines.
** The same is done for when Hermione transforms into Bellatrix, with Emma Watson dubbing over Helena Bonham Carter.
* MethodActing: In order to play Hermione impersonating Bellatrix, Creator/HelenaBonhamCarter watched Creator/EmmaWatson act out the scene first and then copied what she did.
* MilestoneCelebration: Both the book and ''Part 2'' of the film adaptation were released on the 10th anniversary of the first book and movie of the series respectively.
* OnSetInjury: David Holmes, Creator/DanielRadcliffe's stunt double, suffered a major spinal injury after he was caught in an explosion that was part of the stunt, leaving him paraplegic for life.
* TheOriginalDarrin: in the Brazilian dub, Luiz Carlos Persy returns to the role of Voldemort he first played in ''Goblet of Fire'', after being replaced by Creator/MauroRamos in ''Order of the Phoenix''.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** Sort of. Creator/WarwickDavis plays Griphook in this film, replacing Verne Troyer from the first film. But Davis had provided the voice in the first film, dubbing Troyer (who is American).
** Nina Young played the Grey Lady in the first film. Now Kelly Macdonald plays her for her only speaking part.
** Aberforth was played by an extra in the fifth film. Ciaran Hinds replaces him here.
** A minor example. Mafalda Hopkirk's voice was provided by Creator/JessicaHynes in the fifth film. She physically appears here played by Sophie Thompson. However, Creator/EmmaWatson still provides the voice (as we only hear Mafalda speak while Hermione is impersonating her).
** In the Brazilian dub, Mad-Eye Moody is now voiced Eduardo Borgeth here, while in the previous two appearances he was voiced by Renato Rosenberg. Also Dumbledore is now voiced by Creator/MauroRamos after Lauro Fabiano left Delart before ''Part 2'' was dubbed.
* PopCultureUrbanLegends: A rumor has gone around that it was originally planned for the film to retain Voldemort's death as it was in the book with the characters celebrating in a massive crowd, but that it was changed in light of Osama bin Laden's death during shooting; to show respect for those who did not take euphoric glee in bin Laden’s demise due to having lost loved ones during the September 11th attacks or the ensuing War on Terror, the film instead has a quieter, low-key reaction to Voldemort’s death. This is, quite frankly, impossible: bin Laden was killed in May 2011, less than two months before release and far too late for the filmmakers to shoot another, more subdued ending. The last reshoots for Part 2 took place in December 2010, several months before bin Laden’s death.
* RealLifeRelative:
** Creator/EmmaThompson's sister Sophie Thompson plays Mafalda Hopkirk in Part 1. And, as well publicised, Creator/BrendanGleeson's son Creator/DomhnallGleeson plays Bill Weasley.
** Creator/TomFelton convinced his girlfriend Jade Gordon to appear as [[spoiler: Draco's wife in the epilogue]].
* RoleReprise:
%%
%% Per the five-year gap requirement, anyone who appeared in the fifth and/or sixth movie does not qualify.
%%
** Clémence Poésy returns from ''Goblet of Fire'' as Fleur Delacour.
** Sean Biggerstaff makes his return from the first two films as Oliver Wood.
** Creator/MiriamMargolyes returns from ''Chamber of Secrets'' as Pomona Sprout.
** Creator/JohnHurt returns as Garrick Olivander, for the first time since ''Philosopher's Stone''.
** Creator/TobyJones returns to voice Dobby, last onscreen in ''Chamber of Secrets''.
** Stanislav Ianevski was ''almost'' this as he did return as Viktor Krum, but his scenes ended up cut.
* SparedByTheCut:
** In the film, Peter Pettigrew's death scene was cut for being too disturbing (he's killed by his own artificial hand).
** Remus Lupin and his wife Tonks survive in the original outlines while Arthur Weasley dies, but J.K. Rowling couldn't bring herself to kill off Arthur, and killed Lupin and Tonks to compensate for this.
** WordOfGod suggests that Florean Fortescue (who was kidnapped by Death Eaters in the previous book) was supposed to be among the people rescued from Malfoy Manor, but that he should be considered dead after his rescue was cut out for pacing.
* ThrowItIn:
** The famous 'awkward Voldemort hug' was ad-libbed by Creator/RalphFiennes on set. Creator/TomFelton was genuinely weirded out.
** Creator/EvannaLynch came up with Luna's eccentric dancing at the wedding herself.
** Nick Moran ad-libbed Scabior's violent twist in the air when Bellatrix attacks him with her whip. Although the filmmakers loved it, Moran ended up having to repeat the stunt for several takes.
** Creator/HelenaBonhamCarter and Creator/EmmaWatson came up with the idea of Bellatrix carving 'Mudblood' into Hermione's arm on the spur of the moment, and it was put in.
* TrollingCreator: Leading up the book's release, Rowling kept hinting that she may TorchTheFranchiseAndRun by killing Harry so that no sequel books could be written about him. [[spoiler:Which she ''did'', but not permanently.]]
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: See [[WhatCouldHaveBeen/HarryPotterAndTheDeathlyHallows page]].
* WordOfGod:
** According to Creator/JKRowling, [[spoiler: Bellatrix was the one who killed Tonks, and Dolohov killed Remus]].
** Bill and Fleur's daughter Victoire was born on the date of the Battle of Hogwarts, two years later. Her name is French for 'victory'.
** Inverted in that one of the few things she has never revealed is [[spoiler: which house Albus Potter gets sorted into]]. That is, until ''{{Theatre/Harry Potter and the Cursed Child}}'', where it is revealed that [[spoiler:he was sorted into Slytherin]]. While she didn't write the play, she did approve it.
* WorkingTitle: ''Harry Potter and the Elder Wand'' and ''Harry Potter and the Peverell Quest''. The latter was rejected for being way too cheesy, but the former would have made a lot more sense, especially since the other Hallows (the Resurrection Stone and the Invisibility Cloak) aren't really important to the story the way the Wand is, except in the thematic sense. The Stone is only discovered towards the end and put to use exactly once, and while the Cloak sees a fair amount of use, it's nothing that Harry hasn't done before, and it isn't over-used. Though it must be noted that Harry only uses the Elder Wand once, [[spoiler:to repair his original holly-phoenix feather one]].
