* ActingForTwo: Creator/BrendanGleeson plays Alastor Moody as well as the disguise [[spoiler:Barty Crouch Jr.]] uses throughout the film.
* ActorInspiredElement:
** Minor example. Cho Chang became Scottish when Katie Leung was cast, allowing the actress to use her natural accent.
** Voldemort was originally going to have the red snake eyes as described in the books, but Creator/RalphFiennes was worried they would hamper his performance. He requested he use his natural blue eyes so he could be more expressive. The Dark Lord having a set of pretty blue eyes just made him creepier, so it was kept in.
* {{Blooper}}: In the original printing, James Potter’s spirit came out of Voldemort’s wand before Lily even though he'd died first. It was correct in the original manuscript but one of the American editors thought it was wrong. Rowling said he was so good at catching things like that that she acquiesced. She chalks it up to them all being sleep deprived in the crunch to meet the release date. Newer editions have fixed it.
* BTeamSequel:
** Creator/AlfonsoCuaron was offered the chance to direct this instalment in the franchise, but declined, as he would still be working on the post-production for the previous film.
** Creator/ChrisColumbus was hoping to come back to direct this and rest of the films, but failed to do so. Still, he has said that he is proud of the work done with all of the films.
** Music/JohnWilliams was unable to score the film, as he was working on ''Film/MemoirsOfAGeisha''.
* CostumeBacklash: Both Creator/DanielRadcliffe and Creator/RupertGrint hated the longer hairstyles they had in the film. Radcliffe explained in an interview that their hair only got so long in the first place because they followed the crew's instructions not to get haircuts between films so the stylists would be able to cut it properly. They were shocked when they returned to production and Creator/MikeNewell decided their hair didn't need trimming.
* CutSong: The Hogwarts song performed in ''Literature/HarryPotterAndThePhilosophersStone'' appears in the film as a deleted scene.
* DeletedRole: Creator/JohnHurt filmed a scene reprising his role as Mr. Ollivander, but it was cut from the finished film.
* DeletedScene:
** Those included on the DVD and later home media releases:
*** Durmstrang students inviting Hogwarts girls to the Yule Ball, with Ron and Harry looking on in confusion.
*** Harry tries asking Cho Chang to the ball on a staircase, but passing friends of hers interrupt him and he misses his chance.
*** There's a less abrupt transition from the Yule Ball's opening waltz to the Weird Sisters, followed by an extended performance of "Do the Hippogriff". There's an introduction given by Flitwick, calling them "the band that needs no introduction!" likely due to the lawsuit over their name.
*** A scene from the book, but cut out of the film: Harry overhearing Snape and Karkaroff discussing the Dark Mark in the Hogwarts Courtyard, with Snape catching two students in a Beauxbatons carriage.
*** Barty Crouch Sr. talking with Mad-Eye Moody after the second task, with Mad-Eye in an OutOfCharacterAlert licking his lips, something that Crouch Sr. picks up on.
** The Weighing of the Wands was filmed but went unused, with John Hurt reprising his role as Ollivander.
** The dance practice scene with [=McGonagall=] would've gone on for longer, with more students joining in.
* DyeingForYourArt: Creator/RalphFiennes shaved his head and armpits to play Voldemort.
* EarlyDraftTieIn: The film was originally going to end with a scene in which Harry, Ron, and Hermione are gathered around a waterfall, but it was ultimately replaced with the scene in which the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students are leaving Hogwarts. The waterfall ending appears in [[VideoGame/HarryPotterAndTheGobletOfFire the video game]], and [[https://media.hpana.com/2005/GoF/2006Calendar4-Images/2.jpg two]] [[https://media.hpana.com/2005/GoF/2006Calendar4-Images/6.jpg stills]] from the sequence are included in a tie-in calendar.
* EnforcedMethodActing:
** The Hogwarts students have three weeks of dance lessons to prepare for the Yule Ball scenes. Daniel Radcliffe however only had three days (he instead spent those three weeks filming the the Second Task scenes), which worked in his favour since Harry is supposed to be an awkward dancer. This is also the reason Harry is only filmed from the waist up during the dancing, to hide his fumbling feet.
** Before the First Task, the cannon was fired one line before it did in rehearsals, in order to get a genuine shocked reaction from the actors.
* FakeNationality:
** Frances de la Tour has French ancestry but was born and raised in Britain, so she put on a French accent to play Madam Maxime.
** Gabrielle Delacour's actress, Angelica Mandy, is English. Gabrielle has no lines though.
* FandomNod: The pronunciation of "Hermione", which was finally clarified by Hermione herself in this book -- then [[Film/HarryPotter the films]] were released, so everyone knew how to pronounce it anyway.
* MemorialCharacter: [[http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Natalie_McDonald Natalie McDonald]]. She was a fan who died of cancer, and Creator/JKRowling memorialised her briefly in the book.
* MissingTrailerScene: A shot in the trailer has the Muggle family tortured by the Death Eaters during the Quidditch World Cup, which was cut from the final version of the scene.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** Creator/RobertPattinson now plays Cedric, after Joe Livermore played the character in ''Film/HarryPotterAndThePrisonerOfAzkaban'' (Although the character was merely an extra at the time and wasn't intended to be Cedric).
** Voldemort, who is played for the first time by Creator/RalphFiennes in this film. Voldemort was previously portrayed by a combination of Richard Brenner (face and original body) and Ian Hart (voice and host body) in ''Film/HarryPotterAndThePhilosophersStone''. The use of different actors somewhat makes sense as Voldemort did not appear in his body until this book and film, though in the book of ''Philosopher's Stone'' he was said to have the same face in both forms.
** In the Brazilian dub, Allan Lima was replaced by Roberto Macedo as Snape, as the former was fighting cancer (and eventually died in 2006).
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: The film was skipped over during several months' worth of ''Harry Potter'' marathons on Creator/{{Freeform}}, with ''Order of the Phoenix'' taking its place.
* ThrowItIn:
** Creator/DavidTennant ad-libbed Barty Crouch Jr's weird tongue flick.
** Creator/WarwickDavis joked about Flitwick stage diving and crowdsurfing during the Yule Ball rave scene, later finding out director Mike Newell decided to use that idea.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Has its own page [[WhatCouldHaveBeen/HarryPotterAndTheGobletOfFire here]].
* WorkingTitle: The book was first announced under the title ''Harry Potter and the Doomspell Tournament'', which made it on to [[https://lopezbooks.com/static/images/kl/033233.jpg this poster]]. The title was later changed to ''Harry Potter and the Triwizard Tournament''. Creator/JKRowling then changed it again, to ''Goblet of Fire'', as it had a "cup of destiny feel about it".
* WriteWhatYouKnow:
** At the height of the religious controversy for Harry Potter, ''Goblet of Fire'' in particular was heavily criticized for the religious imagery of Voldemort's resurrection. Considering Rowling herself is actually a Christian, the imagery was definitely intended.
** Rita Skeeter had been planned to appear in the first book when Harry visits Diagon Alley. She was pushed back to this one for pacing reasons. By the time she appeared here, her character had been heavily influenced by JK Rowling's own dealings with the press.
