* ActorAllusion:
** David Faustino is obsessed with a dragon who has the power to bend lightning; in another life, [[WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra he had the ability to bend lightning himself]].
*** The scene of Dagur hesitating outside a tent to possibly meet his father is very similar to a scene with Zuko and Iroh, the latter of whom was originally voiced by an actor who Faustino's ''Korra'' character was named after.
** Likewise, Mae Whitman is still [[WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender bent on tracking down and getting revenge on the man who killed her parent(s)]], but this time, it lasts longer than one episode. It's a shame she never got to interact with Viggo after the latter had half his face burnt off a la Prince Zuko -- [[ObligatoryJoke the jokes would have written themselves]].
** Adelaide Kane is again [[Series/{{Reign}} searching for a king]].
* TheCastShowoff: "Tone Death" lets several cast members show off their singing skills, though Creator/AmericaFerrera and Andree Veeman go for HollywoodToneDeaf instead.
* DawsonCasting: Creator/JBBlanc plays Ryker, the older brother to Viggo, who in turn is played by Creator/AlfredMolina. Molina is actually fifteen years older than Blanc, though he doesn't sound it.
* FakeScot: Creator/NolanNorth as Stoick and Chris Edgerly as Gobber replicate the Scottish-Viking accents of the original cast.
* FandomNod: The couple Hiccup and Astrid are given the nickname "Hiccstrid". This is brought up in "Shell Shocked, Part 1" by Snotlout.
* TheOriginalDarrin: [[spoiler: During Stoick's flashback of [[WesternAnimation/HowToTrainYourDragon2 Drago's massacre of the chiefs]] in "[[Recap/DragonsRidersOfBerkS7E8TheWingsOfWarPart1 The Wings of War, Part 1]]", Krogan's actor, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, [[FlashbackWithTheOtherDarrin also voices Drago]] for the character's offscreen dialogue. When Drago appears properly at the end of the [[Recap/DragonsRidersOfBerkS8E13KingOfDragonsPart2 series finale]], he's once again voiced by his original actor, Creator/DjimonHounsou]].
