* AscendedFanon: Konaka gave this response when confronted with the fan hypothesis that Alice is a ghost.
* ActorAllusion: Possibly to Bridget Hoffman, the voice actress for Jeri, also worked on another Chiaki J. Konaka production, voicing the eponymous Lain. Definitely in the case of Creator/YokoAsada, who voiced Jeri in ''Tamers'' and Alice in ''Lain''.
* AliceAllusion: Alice [=McCoy=], the mysterious, possibly dead DeusExMachina. She's also a blonde goth-loli, for extra points. Writer Chiaki J. Konaka [[Anime/SerialExperimentsLain favours]] this trope.
* CreativeDifferences: Tamers owes its very existence to this. To recap, many of the staff including Konaka which were originally apart of the main staff for Anime/DigimonAdventure02 were upset about the ExecutiveMeddling and so they were about to quit the project even though they were under contract. So instead of letting them just leave and break contract, Bandai gave them and Konaka the next series, and then gave them the room to plan it out the way they wanted.
* DependingOnTheWriter: Although at first glance the Ryo that appears in Tamers has a different personality from the one in the game, he was in fact written by the same person who wrote his character in the games, according to the main writer.
* DubNameChange:
** In the English dub:
*** Takato Matsuda -> Takato Matsuki
*** Jiŕnliáng Lǐ -> Henry Wong
*** Ruki Makino -> Rika Nonaka
*** Juri Katou -> Jeri Katou
*** Ryou Akiyama -> Ryo Akiyama
*** Hirokazu Shioda -> Kazu Shioda
*** Xiǎochūn Lǐ -> Suzie Wong
*** Zhčnyǔ Lǐ -> Janyu Wong
*** Andiramon -> Antylamon
*** Makoto -> Mako
*** Nami Asanuma -> Nami Asaji
* ExecutiveMeddling: Jeri's dad was originally supposed to be an {{Yakuza}} [[BreakTheCutie (As if she didn't have enough problems already)]], hadn't Toei's executives intervened.
** The series itself exists because ''Anime/DigimonAdventure02's'' meddling got bad enough that much of the team was willing to leave and break contract. Bandai's response was to let them make this.
* FanNickname: Fans nicknamed the Jeri-Type Agent of the D-Reaper the "J-Reaper."
* HeyItsThatVoice:
** Guilmon, Yamaki and Kenta are all voiced by ''Franchise/{{Digimon}}'' regular Creator/SteveBlum.
** Juri in the English dub is voiced by Creator/BridgetHoffman the very same woman who voiced Lain from ''Anime/SerialExperimentsLain'' and [[LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya Ryoko Asakura.]]
** Renamon previously had a job as [[WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries a recurring Gotham news reporter]].
** In the Japanese version Guilmon is voiced by Creator/MasakoNozawa, the same woman who provided the voice for Son Goku from Manga/DragonBall.
*** By coincidence, Creator/SteveBlum himself was Goku in a 90s video game.
** In the last few dub episodes, whenever [[Creator/SteveStaley Ryo]] starts yelling it's ''really'' easy to hear him lapse into the voice he would later use for [[Anime/DigimonFrontier Koji Minamoto]].
*** Heck, SonicTheHedgehog fans might be familiar with [[JunichiKanemaru the Japanese Ryo]], especially when he starts spouting [[GratuitousEnglish English]] in his image song.
** In the original Japanese, Ruki is [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Rukia]], while in the dub, she's [[Anime/CowboyBebop Ed]] and [[WesternAnimation/InvaderZim Gaz]].
*** Speaking of Rukia, [[MichelleRuff her actress in the dub]] also voices Antylamon, while Ed is Terriermon in Japanese.
** Henry sounded like [[VideoGame/{{Persona4}} Teddie]].
** Jousha Seth (Tai's VA in Anime/DigimonAdventure) voiced a unnamed Hypnos technician in a blink-and-you-miss-it role, spouting out a long chain of techno-babble.
** Kai is [[DotHackGU Haseo]].
*** In a similar vein, Henry's dad is [[DotHackGU Ovan]].
** Culumon [[TomokoKaneda is]] [[Manga/AzumangaDaioh Chiyo-chan]].
** Mephistomon [[RichardEpcar is]] [[KingdomHearts Ansem, Seeker of Darkness]].
** Mako is is T.K. in ''Anime/DigimonAdventure'' and [=MarineAngemon=] in this series for the English version.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: If you want to get the original Japanese dub but live outside of HULU's supported territories (the USA and Japan), you'll have to get it online from unofficial sources as the Japanese [=DVDs=] are out-of-print. The American dub got a complete season Region 1 DVD release in June 2013.
* MarthDebutedInSmashBros: In the West, Kai's first appearance was a cameo in one of the later episodes. The ''Battle of Adventurers'' movie (were Kai is plays a role) wasn't released until years later.
* NamesTheSame: Try to find out the difference between Henry/Jenrya and Jeri/Juri. [[MindScrew You'll hurt your head instantly.]] This stands out a lot because they are the main characters in the ''same series'', unlike the gogglehead heroes.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Notably Pajiramon, whose English voice is a homage to Kate Mulgrew - Captain Janeway of ''Series/StarTrekVoyager''. Mary Elizabeth [=McGlynn=], who voiced Pajiramon and was this season's voice director, had guest starred in a ''Voyager'' episode.
* NoExportForYou:
** The official Japanese dubs with English subtitles are available on HULU, which currently only serves the USA and Japan.
** [=DVDs=] with the original Japanese audio were released--only in Japan. And now they're [[KeepCirculatingTheTapes out-of-print]].
* PlayingAgainstType: "Guilmon's VA in the American dub is '''[[Creator/SteveBlum who]]'''?!"
* ShrugOfGod: Chiaki J. Konaka on whether or not Alice is a ghost.
* TalkingToHimself: Aoi Tada as Terriermon and Lopmon; Creator/YukaImai as Renamon, Rika's mother, and Rika's grandmother; Creator/SteveBlum as Guilmon, Kenta, ''and'' Yamaki (all except the latter are in Japanese version). Ebonwumon has one head does most of the talking, including on behalf of the other.
** Jeri and the D-Reaper, naturally. That was kind of the point.
* ThrowItIn: Konaka [[WhatCouldHaveBeen originally did not intend for Suzie Wong to become a Tamer ]]. However, when he saw that the animators included her in the opening with a digivices, he decided to give her one in the show. Read more here[[http://www.konaka.com/alice6/tamers/characters/shaochung-e.html See Chiaki J. Konaka's character notes]].
* TroubledProduction: See CreativeDifferences above, but ''Anime/DigimonAdventure02's'' TroubledProduction allowed this series to exist.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** WordOfGod states that ''Impmon'' was originally conceived as Takato's Digimon! When that was shot down, Impmon/Beelzemon was originally intended to be the BigBad of the series, but was replaced by [[spoiler: the D-Reaper]] and became TheAtoner instead. This may explain why Impmon is portrayed in typical BigBad fashion in the earlier promotional material.
** Tamers was originally planned to be a direct sequel to Adventure continuity.
** The earliest design notes referred to Rika's partner as "Lunamon." That name was used years later for a different Digimon.
* WordOfGod: Arguably has the most AllThereInTheManual info out of any ''Digimon'' series due to Konaka's blog being publicly available and packed with information, and with an English translation to boot so that non-Japanese speakers can read.
* WriterRevolt: Konaka wasn't pleased when Bandai [[ExecutiveMeddling forced him to include]] [[TheAce Ryo Akiyama]] in Tamers. While he did comply by adding in Ryo as they wanted, Konaka deliberately minimized the amount of screen time and importance that Bandai wanted him to have in Tamer's plot.
