* UsefulNotes/TheBechdelTest: Passed on two occasions. The first is in ''Devil May Cry 2'' between Matier and Lucia when the latter is [[spoiler:distraught about her real origins, but Matier reassures her that the value of their history and experience is far greater than the circumstances of Lucia's birth]]. The second time is during the last cutscene of ''Devil May Cry 4'' as Trish and Lady are excited about their next job of demon hunting.
* DyeingForYourArt: Creator/ReubenLangdon, Dante's InkSuitActor, had [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuq2F66QeP4 his hair dyed for the Japanese commercial of the third game.]] And he looks ALMOST exactly like Dante does in ''3''.
* FanNickname:
** ''[=DMC2=]''
*** Duntee - Dante.
*** {{Desperation|Attack}} Devil Trigger - The Majin Form, Dante's [[DesperationAttack low health]] NighInvulnerability SuperMode.
*** Stinger Level 0 - The oddly {{nerf}}ed version of the Stinger move in that game.
** ''[=DMC3=]''
*** Vante - The [[PaletteSwap red coat-wearing Vergil clone]] fought in ''Devil May Cry 3: [[UpdatedRerelease Special Edition]]'' in [[AnotherSideAnotherStory Vergil Mode]].
** ''[=DMC4=]''
*** ''Manga/{{Bleach}} May Cry'' - The game, for having the same [[HeyItsThatVoice English voice actors]] and DamselInDistress plot.
*** Captain Awesome - HeroAntagonist Credo.
*** Uncle Dante - Dante [[note]]Which wouldn't be too far from the truth if one accepted details that were cut out from the final product and the novelization.[[/note]]
** ''[[VideoGame/DmCDevilMayCry DmC: Devil May Cry]]''
*** [[TheyChangedItNowItSucks Not!Dante, Donte, Don'te]], [[FunWithAcronyms DINO]] (Dante {{In Name Only}}), [[NuMetal Nu]]-Dante, [[{{Hipster}} Hipster!Dante]], [[AuthorAvatar Tameem, Tamante, Domteem]], [[InkSuitActor Tim]] - Dante's [[YouDontLookLikeYou new design]].
*** [[FunWithAcronyms Dante May Cry, Dante Made Crappy, Disappoints Many Customers, Dick Move Capcom]], [[SelfInsertFic Tameem May Cry]], Tameem Will Cry - The game itself.
* FlipFlopOfGod: Capcom originally announced Creator/NinjaTheory's ''[=DmC=]'' was a ContinuityReboot, then said it was a {{Prequel}}, and then an AlternateContinuity.
* HeyItsThatVoice: Trish in the first game, was voiced by [[SaraLafleur Sarah Lafleur]]. Western fans of ''Anime/SailorMoon'' might recognize her as Sailor Uranus.
** Lady is voiced by Creator/KariWahlgren in ''3'' and ''4'', Melissa Davis ([[VisualNovel/{{Kanon}} Mai Kawasumi]], [[Anime/PaniPoniDash Kurumi Momose]]) in the anime.
** Nero is voiced by Creator/JohnnyYongBosch, [[InkSuitActor who also did the motion capture for the character]].
*** RelationshipVoiceActor: And Kyrie is voiced by Creator/StephanieSheh.
*** When coupled with the plethora of [[{{Expy}} similar character traits]], this led to the {{Fan Nickname}}s of Ichigo (Nero), Bankai (his Devil Trigger), Getsuga Tenshou (the shockwaves emitted upon DT-ing), Orihime (Kyrie), and ''Manga/{{Bleach}} May Cry'' (the game itself, as noted above).
** Vergil is voiced & mocapped by Daniel Southworth in ''3'', better known as the [[SixthRanger Quantum Ranger]] from ''Series/PowerRangersTimeForce''. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBrdDjmQVdI Quantum Power!]]
** Wait a sec... Mundus (Tony Daniels) is [[WesternAnimation/XMen Gambit's]] [[TheOtherDarrin second VA]]? And [[Anime/SailorMoon Wiseman and Jedite]]?! Considering [[EldritchAbomination the second]], it's ''very'' fitting.
** It's Credo[[note]]T.J. Rotolo[[/note]], [[VideoGame/DeadRising he's covered wars, ya know.]]
** Baal and Dagon are voiced by Creator/KyleHebert.
** Echidna is voiced by Creator/MaryElizabethMcGlynn, who previously voiced Nevan in ''3''. She also is the voice you hear announcing "Devil May Cry" at the title screen of ''4''.
** Sanctus is [[Creator/LiamOBrien Liam O'Brien]]. You can hear faint traces of [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Gaara]].
** Kyrie is Creator/StephanieSheh. [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Déjà vu]], [[{{Expy}} right?]]
* NoExportForYou: A good amount of [[AllThereInTheManual artbooks]] that goes into further details on things that got left out and the two-volume novelization of ''4'', ''Deadly Fortune''.
* TheOtherDarrin: Dante's voice actors. They didn't bring one back for a second game until ''4'' (see the Character's page for the full list). It wasn't until Creator/ReubenLangdon (Dante's InkSuitActor) voiced him in ''3'' that a VA stuck. Subsequently, Langdon went on to reprise his role in ''4'' and ''[[Anime/DevilMayCryTheAnimatedSeries The Animated Series]]'', the latter causing a massive moment of fandom rejoicing when announced.
** This is made even more jarring if one considers Dante's appearance as a SecretCharacter in the [=PS2=] version of ''ViewtifulJoe''. Although it came out a year after ''2'' (where he was voiced by Matthew Kaminsky), Dante's voice actor is the same as the original game (Drew Coombs). In other words, it went from Drew Coombs, to Matthew Kaminsky, ''back'' to Drew Coombs, and then finally to Creator/ReubenLangdon, who has been voicing Dante ever since ''3''.
*** This doesn't even factor in Dante's ''other'' out-of-universe appearance as a GuestFighter in ''Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne'', where Dante's voice actor is Kaminsky again (however, it's just a case of [[NonDubbedGrunts reusing his grunts and warcries]] from ''2'').
*** Dante was Darrin'd again for the reboot, this time being voiced by Tim Phillipps. Granted, that Dante is technically a different character with a different personality, so keeping the same voice actor would have been odd.
** Trish was voiced by [[SaraLafleur Sarah Lafleur]] in the first game, Creator/LuciChristian in ''TAS'' (Creator/AtsukoTanaka in the original Japanese version), and then Danielle Burgio in ''4'' and ''[=MvC3=]'' (with Tanaka reprising in Japanese).
** It would seem that out of all of the recurring characters (what few there are), only Lady has kept her VA (Creator/KariWahlgren).
* ThrowItIn: The enemy juggling mechanic was born from [[AscendedGlitch a glitch]] that accidentally allowed juggling in ''VideoGame/{{Onimusha}}''. The glitch was fixed before ''Onimusha'''s release, but was so CrazyAwesome that Capcom added it to to the original ''DMC''.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: ''Devil May Cry'' started as [[DivorcedInstallment an early concept for]] ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil4'' which was eventually ditched because the ability to [[CrazyAwesome juggle zombies with guns]] wasn't particularly [[{{Narm}} scary]].
** [[http://www.joystiq.com/2005/02/09/dante-joins-the-soul-calibur-3-lineup Dante was set to appear in]] ''[[VideoGame/SoulSeries Soulcalibur III]]'', [[http://www.soularchive.jp/SC3/wat01e.htm but didn't quite make the roster.]] It's a shame, considering the {{Guest Fighter}}s in both previous and subsequent titles (not to mention that Dante's [[Creator/ToshiyukiMorikawa Japanese VA]] is Mitsurugi in the same series).
** Arkham was originally going to go by the name of Hyne (pronounced "Hai-neh"), but Creator/ReubenLangdon (Dante) didn't think it would work in English and convinced Capcom to change it. [[spoiler:His alter-ego Jester was also named Joker early on in production.]]
** Nero was originally going to be named Rodin, after the famed French sculptor who once created [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gates_of_Hell a motif of a]] {{Hellgate}} mentioned in ''Literature/TheDivineComedy''. He was additionally intended to be given [[http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm236/jt4mtb/Artbooks/2009-03-26/IMG_0317.jpg a more complete Devil Trigger,]] as a counterbalance to a [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity Perfect Devil Trigger]] [[http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm236/jt4mtb/Artbooks/2009-03-26/IMG_0321.jpg conceived for Dante.]]
