!!For the animated series:
* AdoredByTheNetwork:
** At first, ''Detention'' received good promotion from Kids' WB, and you had no chances of avoiding commercials and promos of it. The show's ratings even rivaled the ratings of ''Anime/{{Pokemon}}'', which [[CashCowFranchise seemed like an utterly impossible feat back then]]. Unfortunately, [[ScrewedByTheNetwork everything changed midway through the show's run.]]
** On Canada's Creator/{{YTV}}, the show was a staple of their Sunday morning cartoon lineup for many years, despite it only having 13 episodes.
* ColbertBump: [[OneHitWonder Lou Bega]] has shown a great deal of interest in the show, even declaring that a little bit of [[ManicPixieDreamGirl Shareena]] was what he liked.
* DescendedCreator:
** Series creator Bob Doucette voices Mr. Fletcher and Duncan's yo-yo.
** Show writer Roger Eschbacher voices Jim Kim.
* DuelingShows: With WesternAnimation/{{Recess}}, which should be pretty obvious to '90s kids due to the two shows having similar premises. ''Recess'' won this duel, as it lasted sixty-five episodes over the course of five seasons and even had four movies, whereas ''Detention'' only lasted thirteen episodes and didn't go into reruns. Not helping matters was that Disney's Creator/OneSaturdayMorning block was beating Creator/KidsWB in the ratings.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: For nearly two decades, this was the show's fate. In August 2018, Warner Bros. [[https://itunes.apple.com/us/tv-season/detention-the-complete-series/id1416027414 released all the episodes on the iTunes store]]. Then in May 2019, Warner Archive released the complete series on DVD.
* ScrewedByTheNetwork:
** ''Detention'' is [[ShortRunners easily one of the shortest-lived shows to ever come out of Kids' WB, only lasting 13 episodes.]] According to Bob Doucette [[http://www.geocities.ws/spunkoviews/bdoucette.html in an interview]], the show wasn't what the network wanted even though it was one of the highest-rated shows on the block (it even rivaled ''Anime/{{Pokemon}}'', which was basically the block's CashCowFranchise); he also had a rough time with the executives at Warner Bros. as they had unhealthy relationships with ''Detention'''s staff team. The show ended up with a death slot of 11:30am in March 2000, and during August in the same year, it ended up being pushed to Kids' WB's afternoon block, where it only aired on Fridays. Although reruns lasted until August 31, 2001, the entirety of the series wasn't seen again for several years, with only three episodes being available on [=YouTube=] until 2018, when Warner Bros. officially released the complete series, as seen above.
** ''Anime/SailorMoon'' was the show that took its time slot in September 2001, [[http://web.archive.org/web/20040210082301/http://www.iwaynet.net/~sos/smonwb.html as part of a 2-week test run]] to see if the show could prove ratings-worthy for the block. Ironically, it only lasted a week due to [[BreakingNewsInterruption news coverage of the September 11th attacks pre-empting the Kids' WB block in its second week]].
* StuntCasting: Kids' WB wanted celebrity names attached to Orangejella and Lemonjella. Tia and Tamera Mowry, whom were starring on ''Series/SisterSister'' on Creator/TheWB at the time, were chosen as a result.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: According to Bob Doucette, Billy West also auditioned for the voice of Gug, but Kids' WB wanted an actual Hispanic actor for the role. Doucette chose Carlos Alazraqui, remembering him from the Taco Bell commercials.
* WrittenByCastMember: Jim Kim's voice actor Roger Eschbacher wrote "The Man With the Golden Brain".
* WordOfGod: Bob Doucette admits that Duncan Bubble was based on someone he knew who was deaf and claims that Duncan doesn't speak because he's supposed to represent handicapped kids without making it an obvious choice. He also claims that Kisskillya is actually well meaning despite her antagonism with the other students.

!!For the film:

* DuelingMovies: With ''Film/TheCabinInTheWoods''. Both films are [[PostModernism post-modern]], GenreBusting takes on the {{horror}} genre, and both were released the same weekend.
* PlayingAgainstType: Creator/DaneCook, best known as a [[VulgarHumor vulgar comic]] popular with the frat-house set, playing the DeanBitterman principal.

!!For the game:
* CompletelyDifferentTitle: The original Chinese title for the game is 「返校」, which means "Back to School".
