* BoxOfficeBomb: Budget, $28 million. Box office, $14,110,589.
* CreatorKiller: Doubly so! Creator/RalphBakshi had already moved onto television and only returned to filmmaking to do this film. Its failure and TroubledProduction simply reiterated his desire to stay out of movies for over a decade before coming back with the crowd-funded ''WesternAnimation/TheLastDaysOfConeyIsland.'' It also did not help Frank Mancuso's career either.
* ExecutiveMeddling: The movie was intended to be an erotic horror flick about a cartoonist who had sex with a sexy cartoon woman he created named Debbie Dallas and is now the father of a half-human, half-cartoon girl who considers herself a freak and goes on a rampage against the man who spawned her. Sadly, Frank Mancuso Jr. and Kim Basinger nixed that at the last minute to make it more kid-friendly (though it really doesn't come off that way) and into the complete and total bomb we know it as. [[LaserGuidedKarma The film hurt both of their careers as a result.]]
* GenreKiller: Put a severe halter on adult animation thanks to Mancuso and Basinger's actions, which helped enforce the AnimationAgeGhetto against the efforts of The Walt Disney Company, Creator/{{Pixar}}, Creator/DonBluth, and later Creator/DreamworksAnimation for a while until the 2016 film WesternAnimation/SausageParty got announced which is the first R-rated CGI animated movie.
* MeanCharacterNiceActor: Kim Basinger plays the BigBad but was part of the ExecutiveMeddling out of a desire to be able to show ''Cool World'' in hospitals for sick children. This was one instance where the trope actually [[BoxOfficeBomb worked]] [[StarDerailingRole against]] the actor/actress due to the ExecutiveMeddling ruining what the primary idea for the movie was.
* MidDevelopmentGenreShift: This was originally intended to be an erotic horror film, but [[ExecutiveMeddling Frank Mancuso Jr.]] didn't want to make a horror movie, and [[WagTheDirector Kim Basinger]] wanted something more family-friendly.
* PlayingAgainstType: Just as ''WesternAnimation/{{Wizards}}'' was his first attempt at a family-friendly film, this was Bakshi's first (and, ultimately, only) attempt at a big-budget Hollywood film.
* StarDerailingRole: One of three films in the early 90's that ended Kim Basinger's status as an A-list actress after a great stint in the 80's.
* WagTheDirector: Actress Kim Basinger is responsible for the movie being toned down to a PG-13 knock-off of ''Who Framed Roger Rabbit''. She wanted to make a movie that she could show in hospitals to sick children. Mancuso agreed with her. Bakshi was baffled.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: The original horror concept (in which Jack has sex with Holli [who was actually named Debbie Dallas, after the infamous 1970s porno, ''Debbie Does Dallas''] and Holli has a half-cartoon, half-human daughter who sees herself as a freak and plots to kill her parents) would have made a '''much''' better movie than a Roger Rabbit ripoff we have now. Blame [[ExecutiveMeddling Frank Mancuso Jr. and Kim Basinger for screwing it up]].
** Originally, Creator/CandiMilo wasn't supposed to be the voice of Lonette. She was only there as a line-feeder for the other actors, but she was put in after the producers saw that she was great with doing voices and acting.
** Brad Pitt and Drew Barrymore were Ralph Bakshi's original choices for the roles of Deebs and Holli. At one point, [[http://flipanimation.blogspot.com/2013/03/my-meeting-with-bakshi-or-goodbye-cool.html Willem Dafoe was going to play Deebs.]]
