* ActorSharedBackground: The story that Creator/BillyCrystal tells about his "best day" of going to a Yankee game with his father is a true story from his childhood. He notes at one point that, "I still have the program." Not only does he really still have it, but he got Mickey Mantle to autograph it twice: once at the game that day and once again some 20 years later on a talk show they were both guests on.
* CaliforniaDoubling: While the opening scene was set in Pamplona, parts of it were shot at Universal Studios in Universal City, California.
* CompletelyDifferentTitle: The movie's title did not easily translate into foreign languages. In France, it was called, "La Vie, L'Amour, Les Vaches," literally "Life, Love, and Cows." In Greece it was "Ti ekanes baba stin agria dysi?" which means "So what did you do in the Far West, Dad?" In Poland it's "Sułtani westernu", "The Sultans of Western".
* MissingTrailerScene: Some trailers feature a scene where someone's spurs are caught on a rail, but this scene is not in the movie.
* NoStuntDouble: Creator/BillyCrystal performed all of his own stunts, most notably, when he loops the rope around the cattle's head, and Curly whistles, making the cow take off, dragging Mitch behind.
* TheOtherDarrin: In the Latin American Spanish dub of the first film, Barry Shalowitz was voiced by Eduardo Borja. In ''City Slickers 2'', he was replaced by Miguel Ángel Ghigliazza.
* PlayingTheirOwnTwin: Jack Palance plays Curly's twin brother Duke in the sequel.
* PlayingWithCharacterType: Jack Palance was mostly known for playing villainous tough guys. Here he plays a tough guy who seems threatening but turns out to be a nice guy.
* RealLifeRelative: Mitch's daughter is played by Creator/BillyCrystal's real-life daughter Lindsay. Her older sister Jennifer appears as a jogger in ''City Slickers 2''.
