* BeamMeUpScotty: "Boom" is treated as Austin's catchphrase by those who imitate him, despite the fact that he never really says this.
* DawsonCasting: Largely an aversion, with Calum Worthy (b. 1991) hardly being an JustForFun/{{egregious}} example and the rest of the main cast being 15-16 at the start of filming. [[note]]Averted with LauraMarano, however.[[/note]]
* HeyItsThatGuy:
** Robert Picardo, the [[Series/StarTrekVoyager Holographic Doctor]]/[[Series/StargateAtlantis IOA Agent Woolsey]], plays a real doctor in ''Successes & Setbacks''.
** Tilly Thompson (H8ter Girl) and Walter (the usher from the Fright Fest) are better known as [[SoRandom the girl who's going to marry Zack Feldman and Rufus]].
** Ally's old teacher Miss Suzy is [[PeeWeesPlayhouse Miss Yvonne]].
** Mindy from "[=MyTab=] and My Pet" and "Diners and Daters" is [[Series/{{Glee}} Lauren Zises.]]
** Laura Marano herself used to [[AreYouSmarterThanAFifthGrader make people feel stupider than a fifth grader]].
*** She was also Kelsey Grammar's daughter in the short-lived {{FOX}} SitCom ''Back to You'' before the role was recast.
** Who knew [[{{Series/Eureka}} Kevin]] was such a badass dancer?
** Ally's mom was Vicki Springer from the FOX TV-Series ''Women in Prison''.
** Dez once wished he was [[{{invisibility}} invisible]] so he could spy on [[PowerPerversionPotential women in the showers]]. [[Series/{{Supernatural}} Until Sam stopped him]] and then he got [[BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor hit by a car]].
** Dez's dad is [[ShakeItUp Coach Lesseur]] and his mom is [[MissionHill Posey]].
** Trish's dad used to be a [[Film/PaulBlartMallCop security guard at the West Orange Mall in New Jersey]].
* RealLifeRelative: The actors portraying Austin's parents are married in real life.
* ThrowItIn: Like most scripted shows, occasionally they throw in an error, mistake or an unscripted adlib.
** When Ally tries to crayon outside the lines of a coloring book she can't bring herself to do it. Austin grabs her hand and starts coloring in the book. He colored it so hard he broke the crayon. Laura breaks character saying that he broke the crayon before it ends with the VanityPlate.
** Ally and Austin dancing towards the end of ''Diners & Daters'' has an unscripted moment where Ally trips on the couch and falls down into a seated position on the couch. Austin's actor Ross Lynch stops his dancing and nearly breaks character. Before he can Laura stands back up saying it was 'part of the dance' and she keeps dancing. They threw it in.
