* ActorAllusion: Stanley Anderson played the President in Bay's earlier film ''Film/TheRock'', and the demeanor of both Presidents is highly similar.
* BackedByThePentagon: NASA in this case. Hard to believe but it's true this did have NASA scientists as advisers and the movie was able to shoot in the NASA facilities. The only NASA place that isn't real is the control room which was designed for the film. Though the real MissionControl room does appear in the film. Also the Pentagon.
* BreakawayPopHit: Aerosmith's "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing", their first ever #1 hit.
* CaliforniaDoubling: The New York City scenes at the beginning were actually filmed in the Spring Street Financial District of Los Angeles. They actually manage to cover this up seamlessly for the most part, except for one shot of a guy in his car where you can see palm trees in the background.
* TheCriterionCollection: [[http://www.criterion.com/films/578-armageddon/ Spine # 40, to be exact.]] This was the final film they released on LaserDisc and one of the final films released on that format before Hollywood and Creator/WaltDisneyHomeVideo switched to DVD, which Disney did starting with the [[WaltDisneyHomeVideo/WaltDisneyGoldClassicCollection Walt Disney Limited Issues and Walt Disney Gold Classic Collection]] after starting with a WaltDisneyHomeVideo/WaltDisneyMasterpieceCollection DVD of ''Disney/MaryPoppins'' the year prior.
* DuelingMovies: This one was the winner vs. ''Film/DeepImpact'', at least financially. Primarily because where ''Deep Impact'' "[[TookTheBadFilmSeriously tries]]" to be "inspirational", Armageddon ''[[{{Troperiffic}} knows]]'' it's 10% IWantMyJetPack/90% HollywoodScience and [[HamAndCheese just runs with it]].
* FakeRussian: Creator/PeterStormare, from Sweden, portrayed the loony cosmonaut. Of course, considering it's Peter Stormare, [[OneSceneWonder whose characters often steal the whole damn movie despite having limited roles]], said loony cosmonaut is one of the best characters in the movie.
* MathematiciansAnswer: in some markets, this film was advertised as starring "Oscar winners Ben Affleck and Billy Bob Thornton". While it is true that both these men won Oscars, neither of them won for acting.
* MoneyDearBoy: The reason why why Billy Bob Thornton was in this movie, which he wasn't shy to admit as soon as his contractual obligation to advertise the movie ended. He did say, however, that he didn't think it was that bad of a movie.
* OldShame: Subverted. In an interview with ''Miami Herald'', Michael Bay said "I will apologize for ''Armageddon''", and explained how being forced to film the whole movie in 16 weeks caused the crew's performance to suffer, but later added on his website's forum that his words had been taken out of context and he actually was proud of the movie.
** Creator/BenAffleck seems to get red in the face anytime its brought up, such as on the Bill Maher Show.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Creator/ArnoldSchwarzenegger was considered for the role of Harry.
** The orignal script did not include the romantic subplot between AJ and Grace, and instead had more emphasis on Truman. It was later added after the success of ''Titantic'' with teenage girls.
** Creator/DeniseRichards, Creator/MillaJovovich, and Creator/RobinWright were all considered for the role of Grace.

* ''Armageddon'' managed to land on Creator/RogerEbert's [[Main/RogerEbertMostHatedFilmList most hated movies list]]; he also called it the worst movie of 1998 alongside ''Film/SpiceWorld''.
