[[folder:''Code Geass'']]
* Nina. Her racism ([[AllThereInTheManual caused by bad experiences in a Japanese ghetto]]), her [[PsychoLesbian affection for Euphemia]], and [[MadScientist her role in creating the Geass-world equivalent of a nuclear bomb]] [[spoiler:resulting in the death of millions]] earned her the hatred of the fanbase. The [[FanDisservice Table-kun]] [[ADateWithRosiePalms incident]] didn't help. Though unlike other cases, she actually [[CharacterDevelopment learned her lesson and wised up]]... but tell that to the fanbase, which REFUSES to see her change.
* Typically, by the end of the series, all the fan hatred has, in an interesting meta-contrast to the ending, been shifted towards Kaname Ohgi. Initially he was able to compensate his status as TheGenericGuy in an otherwise vividly colorful cast by virtue of being the Black Knights' VoiceOfReason to the point of becoming a minor EnsembleDarkhorse. His increasingly rash decisions and degeneration into hypocrisy towards the end of R2 (including backstabbing Lelouch based on VillainsNeverLie and functionally surrendering the ''entire world'' to Britannia in an under-the-table deal to free Japan) quickly plummeted him to Scrappy status. Not only he does ''not'' suffer in any way, shape, or form for his mistakes and ends up both a {{Karma|Houdini}} AND an IdiotHoudini, but at the end of the series, he gets one of the happiest endings out of all of the cast by being HappilyMarried and he even became ''Prime Minister of Japan'' while two of the main characters get the less ideal endings, which made him even more hated by several fans of the show. This was amplified by the knowledge that [[UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom Ohgi's betrayal basically led to the final arc and the characters' bad ends]], which have been a matter of controversy among various fans, [[DespairEventHorizon but]] [[UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans for]] [[InferredHolocaust different]] [[SenselessSacrifice reasons]].
* Ougi's newlywed wife, Villetta, also shares in the hate for [[LoveMakesYouDumb supposedly leading him astray in the first place]] and screwing Lelouch over in the most inopportune moments, culminating in her being trusted over Lelouch leading to the betrayal when she has no right to be, as an agent against him on behalf of Britannia (re:the geass and him being AWOL following the Black Rebellion, even though she was the one watching over Lelouch for geass, meaning she may have very well misled them, and keeping him under surveillance during that year, making her partly responsible for the latter, and also that she was the one who incapacitated Ohgi in the first place partly due to the latter's carelessness, and Ohgi [[NeverMyFault still completely blames Lelouch for being treated as an expendable and abandoning him during that moment]]). And yet, she too shares in Ohgi's happy ending for her convenient [[HeelFaceRevolvingDoor team switch]], even though she undergoes no redemptive character development nor actually does anything for the peace. Meanwhile, each of the main leads had already [[spoiler:lost a love interest they both cared about, one of which started falling deeper into despair after being used by Villetta]]. It's not too strange to find fans who wished they didn't survive the waterfall incident.

[[folder:''Dragon Ball'']]
* ''Anime/DragonBallZ'':
** Babidi has a hatedom, [[HateSink despite the fact that you're supposed to hate him because he's evil]], a lot of fans disliked him because of his frequent outbursts and a "bad" villain because he got other villains to do his work for him.
** Gotenks. A fusion between two fairly likeable characters and introduced as the solution to Majin Buu. Instead of the ultimate fighter, all the viewers gets is an arrogant little kid. On the first appearance, he gets the IdiotBall, refuses to use his maximum on Majin Buu because he doesn't think he needs it and is soundly defeated. On his second appearance, he makes the same mistake on a much more powerful version of Majin Buu, and still believes that he can easily defeat the unkillable monster with ridiculous attacks. His stupidity and arrogance end up dooming more than a few more likeable characters.
** While Broly was already a BaseBreakingCharacter, his clone, [[Anime/DragonBallZBioBroly Bio-Broly]], is universally despised by even the most die hard of his fans. Viewers hate him because of his unappealing design (which many have compared to ComicBook/SwampThing on steroids, and Creator/TeamFourStar unfavorably labeled it the love-child of Swamp Thing and a [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Muk]]), being a mindless brute that only screams "Kakarot" (which was already an issue with the original Broly), having none of the original Broly's badass capabilities, and for his humiliating anti-climactic defeat from [[WeaksauceWeakness getting submerged in water]]. It doesn't help that ''Bio-Broly'' is considered the worst ''Dragon Ball'' movie ([[Film/DragonballEvolution animated, that is]]). To put it in perspective just how unpopular he is, despite the regular Broly's WolverinePublicity when it comes to supplementary material, he rarely gets any official merchandise and he has only appeared in '''two''' video games to date since the movie's initial release in 1994, the lowest of any ''Dragon Ball Z'' movie villain.
** Bulma is largely well-liked, but she fell into this during the Namek saga, where she's completely useless to the plot and does nothing but bitch to everyone else. (Granted, by the end of the arc, some viewers sympathised with [[ArcFatigue how much she was sick of Namek.]])
* ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'':
** Goku Black's [[Manga/DragonBallSuper manga]] incarnation is not as well-received as his anime version due to holding the VillainBall multiple times and is far less competent who tends to lose his cool rather easily. He also never fights or have a proper interaction with Goku despite stealing his body in the first place.
** [[spoiler:Infinite]] Zamasu is easily his most-hated form (especially the version in the anime). Lots of fans see said form as the cheapest DiabolusExMachina in the whole franchise, and the main cause of the Future Trunks Saga's widespread EndingAversion.
** The Kamikaze Fireballs/Maiden Squadron of Universe 2 is given a ''lot'' of hate, not only from ''Dragon Ball'' fans, but also fans of Magical Girl series in general. Most of the hate is geared towards Brianne de Chateau/Ribrianne. Her Ribrianne form is incredibly off-putting (While Kakunsa and Rozie look reasonably normal, Ribrianne is incredibly chubby and is constantly showing off her bloomers because of her costume's design), but her attitude is the complete antithesis to what a magical girl is as she's a warrior whose idea of ThePowerOfLove is disgustingly superficial and hypocritical. Rozie seems to [[AvertedTrope avoid this]] though, and is considered an EnsembleDarkhorse.

[[folder:''Pretty Cure'']]
* ''Anime/FutariWaPrettyCure'':
** Lulun, who is just as whiny and bratty as first season Pollun, if not moreso, and just as unpopular.
* ''Anime/YesPrettyCure5'':
** Milk is one of the most hated mascots ever, for being an annoying brat and deliberately causing trouble for the Pretty Cure, especially around the time of her debut. There are also people who dislike Coco's fairy form on the basis of his voice, which is widely considered annoying.
* It's been shown that if you ''dare'' ruin how things should run in a ''Pretty Cure'' series, you will get hit with this:
** [[DeusExMachina Aguri Madoka/Cure Ace]] of ''Anime/DokiDokiPrettyCure'' is a very bad example of what happens when you change the formula way too much. Before her appearance, any [[SixthRanger additions to the team]] were always established characters with some with either established royalty (Shiny Luminous of ''[[FutariWaPrettyCure MaxHeart]]'', Ako Shirabe/Cure Muse of Anime/{{Suite|PrettyCure}}) or HeelFaceTurn characters (Setsuna Higashi/Cure Passion of ''Anime/FreshPrettyCure'', Ellen Kurokawa/Cure Beat of Anime/{{Suite|PrettyCure}}). ''Doki Doki!'', up to that point, had been hinting that DarkMagicalGirl Regina was getting set to be the new Cure only [[ShockingSwerve to have the rug yanked out of everyone]] and BigBad King Jikochu made her even more evil. ''Then'', Cure Ace shows up out of nowhere, saves the day, and then is revealed to be someone ''who had never been seen before or even alluded to at all''. To make matters worse, the next episodes afterwards proceed to turn her into a BrattyHalfPint combined with DrillSergeantNasty. As soon as [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap she reveals more about herself]] and the events of Episode 46 kicks in, fans are starting to have some tolerance for her.
** [[AloofAlly Iona Hikawa]]/[[{{Jerkass}} Cure Fortune]] of ''Anime/HappinessChargePrettyCure'' has been in this category for awhile due to the fact that she's been an unrelenting asshole towards Hime Shirayuki/Cure Princess. However, a new can of worms gets opened when it's revealed that Hime [[UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom was tricked into opening]] [[SealedEvilInACan the Axia Box]], letting out the Phantom Empire, which Hime was trying to tell Iona all along but [[NotNowKiddo was being shamed from talking every time she tried]]. Iona, [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone horrified and saddened that her actions have caused such unneeded grief]], makes efforts to become friendly with Hime, [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap redeeming herself in the eyes of many]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Others A-M]]
* ''Anime/{{Aikatsu}}'':
** Dream Academy students [[TheRival Seira Otoshiro]], [[TheSmartGuy Ki Saegusa]], [[MsFanservice Sora Kazesawa]] and [[SpoiledSweet Maria Himesato]] are widely despised by fans for being boring one-dimensional rivals who are [[FriendlyRival way too friendly]] and [[SpotlightStealingSquad clogging up screentime]] from more well-liked characters during the show's second season. It does not help that two of them even use brands used by [[EnsembleDarkhorse very popular characters]] and shove them [[DemotedToExtra into the background]] for most of that season. It was to no surprise that they were [[PutOnABus kicked to the curb]] for the third and fourth seasons outside of a rare cameo.
* ''Anime/AldnoahZero'': Primarily Kaizuka Inaho, with most fans favoring rival protagonist Slaine over him, especially in the Japanese fandom. Many viewers consider him a GodModeStu of the highest order due to his frequent DeusExMachina moments, which Slaine ironically gets later on as well. Inaho's [[TheStoic general lack of emotion]] also doesn't endear him to a lot of fans.
* ''Manga/AiYoriAoshi'': Mayu Miyuki is widely regarded as the biggest Scrappy of the series, due largely in part to her clinginess to Kaoru and general {{cat|Fight}}tiness with {{Cat Smile}}r Tina Foster. Behind her, [[{{Meido}} Taeko Minazuki]]'s young cousin Chika is a ''real'' hyper character. The fact her deeply tanned skin gives slight images of {{Ethnic Scrappy}}dom doesn't help (undeserved, since there ''are'' dark-skinned Japanese).
* ''Manga/AkameGaKill'': Prime Minister Honest. He's the BigBad in a series where the single most popular character by an intensely wide margin (Esdeath) is merely TheDragon to him, which is surprisingly easy to forget about. This wouldn't be bad enough to label him this trope, if only he weren't one of the single most [[{{Narm}} narmy]] villains people could think of. Every single scene with him has him straddling the MoralEventHorizon in some way, yet he comes across as nothing more than an annoying, over-the-top and flat BigBadWannabe. In a fictional example of XPacHeat, instead of viewers wanting to see him get his comeuppance, they view him as a waste of time at the expense of other, mostly more popular antagonists and want him to go away.
* ''Webcomic/AxisPowersHetalia'':
** Chibitalia and Holy Roman Empire, being an epitome of TastesLikeDiabetes and having gotten quite the screentime in the anime, have garnered their fair share of haters throughout the run of Hetalia. Some of it is plain boredom and annoyance at two "stupid babies" being a SpotlightStealingSquad, but some of their detractors can get quite nasty. Especially with the idea that [[spoiler:Holy Roman Empire just might be a younger version of Germany, which somehow makes Germany less of a "real man" (or just goes against their idea of history)]]. The other younger versions of the characters have gotten hate and ridicule in spots, but nothing as extreme as some of the vitriol that a baby Italy and the one crushing on him can generate.
** The Principalities of Wy and Seborga instantly generated fan backlash due to not being based off bonafide countries, coupled with them being portrayed as young children/adolescents and buddies of the BrattyHalfPint Sealand. Wy's mouthy personality also hasn't helped her status.
* ''LightNovel/BakaAndTestSummonTheBeasts'':
** Mizuki Himeji. Receives the most attention from the main character, but is generic and mildly notorious at her best and [[{{Yandere}} terrifyingly psychotic]] at her worst. There's something wrong when her most prominent role is to routinely put people on the edge of death with her [[LethalChef attempts at cooking]].
** How about [[ClingyJealousGirl Shouko Kirishima]]? She abuses Yuuji numerous ways, including chaining him to her with a pillory, tazing him, poking his eyes out when he even takes so much as a glance at other girls (and [[DudeLooksLikeALady Hideyoshi]]), and tries to force him into a marriage. Not only are all Yuuji's friends totally okay with this, [[ShipperOnDeck they actively try to get the two together]]. It doesn't help that she is quite possibly the biggest KarmaHoudini in the series; when she looks like she might finally get some comeuppance, she always comes out smelling like a rose.
** Mizuki, Minami, and Shouko pale in comparison to [[PsychoLesbian Miharu]], not only for being absolutely insane when it comes to Minami, and almost always showing up to reaffirm her One-Sided Affection. [[spoiler:She is also the pseudo-antagonist of the 2nd season arc where she sets Akihisa and Yuuji up by scapegoating them for peeping into the girl's baths and making Minami and Himeji rather unlikable by pretty much turning them into BitchInSheepsClothing Material. Matters are made worse when she gets [[KarmaHoudini no comeuppance]] for this incident and a hypocritical ReasonYouSuckSpeech to Akihisa about how he treats Minami]].
** TL;DR If you are a female character in this series you '''will''' have a {{Hatedom}}.
* ''Manga/BakiTheGrappler'': BigBad Yujiro Hanma himself is pretty despised (and not in a LoveToHate way) by quite a few fans for being such an UpToEleven InvincibleVillain -- and him also being such a cruel {{Jerkass}} (especially to his own wife and son) certainly doesn't help, either. [[spoiler:Even more so when he ultimately remains a KarmaHoudini after his final battle with Baki and consequently cements HardWorkHardlyWorks as a major theme, which has just caused some fans to outright jump ship out of sheer DarknessInducedAudienceApathy.]]
* An unnamed middle school boy from ''LightNovel/{{Bakemonogatari}}'' only appears on-screen for about [[OneSceneWonder five minutes]], and yet the fandom LOATHES him. Although when you consider he [[spoiler:cursed Nadeko Sengoku, nearly killing her, over something as petty as a rejection]] and [[spoiler:tried to beat [[EnsembleDarkhorse Kaiki]] [[DisproportionateRetribution to death with a baseball bat]] [[InsaneTrollLogic because being the source of the cursing charms apparently means he's the one at fault when they are used improperly]]]]. It didn't help that this moment followed [[spoiler:Kaiki's]] CharacterDevelopment and was seen as a pointless ShootTheShaggyDog by the fans.
* ''Anime/BakuganBattleBrawlers'': Baron is the show's scrappy. He's an [[FanBoy idolizing twit]] who looks like a strong man but has a voice that is higher pitched than his ''three year old sister''. He's generally incompetent, and mocked as the worst character even on the show. Still, he's done nothing to earn himself any pity.
* ''Manga/{{Bakuman}}'':
** Takuro Nakai. Initially well-received by the fanbase because of his continuing determination to get serialized despite consistent failure in the past, Nakai lost any love from the majority of the readers when a little success went to his head and he began behaving like a complete JerkAss towards his former friend Aoki Ko, trying to pressure her into being his girlfriend when she needed his help. After leaving for a while, he's come back in an even harder to like position, as an assistant to the SmugSnake Nanamine who is extremely rude to the other assistants unless they're cute girls and doesn't seem to care about much except for the free space and pizza Nanamine is providing him with. There are still little glimmers of the nicer guy he used to be underneath the self-pitying JerkAss, especially when he gets back on the road to working toward his dream as [[spoiler:Hiramaru's assistant]]. Until the mandatory redemption, this was probably an IntendedAudienceReaction, but said redemption did in the end not waver many.
** Another series scrappy is Miura, Takagi and Mashiro's second editor; unlike the wise and talented Hattori, an EnsembleDarkhorse, Miura is new, inexperienced, and not very good at what he does while Takagi and Mashiro are working with him. While he's worked to improve himself, his first impression as an incompetent ReplacementScrappy to such a popular character earned him a lot of hate, presumably influencing [[spoiler:Hattori returning to being Ashirogi Muto's editor for PCP]].
** [[{{Bishonen}} Shun]] [[FanNickname "Dog boy"]] [[{{Bishonen}} Shiratori]], a rather spoiled would-have-been [[TheWoobie woobie]] who was the cause of a second breaking up of the lead team [[spoiler:or so it would seem]]. The creators may have caught on with this one, because past his arc, the character is never seen or heard from again, unless one counts the hand wave cancellation of his series.
* ''Anime/BattleOfThePlanets'': 7-Zark-7 is hated violently by even die-hard fans. Actually a Western addition, rendered necessary by Moral Guardians when its parent anime was translated.
* ''Anime/BenTo'':
** ClassRepresentative Ume Shiraume. Her chief character traits are beating the crap out of Satou and being a PsychoLesbian to (mostly) Oshiroi. She does [[TakeThatScrappy end up being soundly defeated in a bento brawl]] in Volume 10 and becomes [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap more tolerable]] after that.
** Orthros because how incredibly overpowered they are. It's not that the Worf Effect was in well, full effect, but that they curb stomped the much-loved Yarizui, and as a result, she does nothing in the series' climax.
* ''Manga/{{Berserk}}'': Nina, the young prostitute and secret pagan cultist of the Conviction arc. Many hate her for being a DirtyCoward, [[KickTheMoralityPet for the way she treated Joachim]] and for being completely useless to people who are protective of her, while she is too selfish and scared to help them back. Although she is very aware of her faults and does try to help, and has very good reasons to be afraid (among them the nightmare-inducing torture chamber she gets led into at one point).
* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}''
** Kaname Tousen is hated for many reasons, first and foremost, for being a total hypocrite who betrays Soul Society for extremely flimsy reasons: wanting to walk the path of the least bloodshed toward peace... by siding with the egomaniacal traitor whose entire plan revolves around starting a bloody war and who is perfectly fine with murdering his own allies just because they're of no use to him anymore. Another reason fans hate him is for initially being the blind man in the BlindAndTheBeast with Komamura, then insulting by calling Komamura ugly to his face the second he regains his sight. He's also hated for holding one of the most blatant examples of the IdiotBall in the series history in his fight with Kenpachi, where he traps Kenpachi in his sensory deprivation Bankai, then just stands around taunting and lecturing him (which, as noted, Kenpachi ''can't hear'' anymore) instead of just finishing him off, which he ends up losing the fight because of.
** The Modsoul trio of Ririn, Noba, and Kurōdo were reviled during their debut in the Bount Arc for their individual traits. Ririn's sometimes loud and arrogant, Noba's too shy, and Kurôdo talks too much for the audience's taste. By the end of the Bount Arc they were not only reduced to comic relief, but allowed to leak into the canon material of the Arrancar Arc, quickly increasing their earlier hate.
** In the The New Captain Shūsuke Amagai FillerArc, Rurichiyo Kasumiōji is a spoiled brat of a rich kid who's prone to being kidnapped just to keep her unpopular Filler arc going. Fans also find her Third-Person Person quirk annoying to listen to, and just plain don't like how useless she was in said arc.
** In the Gotei 13 Invading Army FillerArc, Nozomi's existence was justified by rewriting canon character backgrounds, stealing unique canon abilities, reducing Rukia and Orihime to bit-roles that consisted solely of shilling her, removing Ichigo as the MainCharacter to turn Kon into her LoveInterest, and making her more powerful than even [[StoryBreakerPower Yamamoto]].
* ''LightNovel/BludgeoningAngelDokuroChan'' has the title character, Dokuro. For the people who hate the series for being a cruel SadistShow, she's the general root of it, [[DisproportionateRetribution brutally murdering Sakura for the dumbest of reasons]].
* ''Manga/CaptainTsubasa'': The main character Tsubasa for being a InvincibleHero who always wins and a FlatCharacter compared to the other characters.
* ''Manga/{{Citrus}}'': Mei's grandfather was generally hated because of [[spoiler:expelling Yuzu]]. Right when hatred for him was softening because of [[spoiler:him allowing Yuzu to return to the academy after she saved his life]], he found himself under fire again when it is revealed that he is pushing Mei [[spoiler:into another arranged marriage]].
* ''Manga/{{Claymore}}'': Raki had the misfortune of being the perpetual DistressedDude and NonActionGuy in a cast full of [[AmazonBrigade badass warrior women]]. The fact that he [[MenDontCry cries a lot]] and is very closely bonded to the main character, whom the fanbase loves to [[YuriFan pair up with her female comrades]], also doesn't help. His screen time decreases a lot as the series goes on, and he did TakeALevelInBadass, which helps, though now the fans complain that he's ''too'' strong and fear he'll take pagetime away from the female character.
* ''Anime/CrossAnge'': Jill gained quite a bit of a negative reception for her actions such as doing a painful cavity search on Ange; pulling off a really huge IdiotBall moment by sending her out into the frontlines when she just wanted to escape. By the time "[[Recap/CrossAngeEp18ConclusiveOcean Conclusive Ocean]]" aired, [[TakeThatScrappy fans cheered when Ange finally kicks Jill down]].
* ''LightNovel/DateALive'': [[ThoseTwoGuys Ai, Mai and Mii]] -- but ''especially'' Mii. Their only purpose so far has been an unfunny RunningGag where they interpret Shido's (and sometimes other people's) actions in the worst way possible, and fans find Mii's constant [[CatchPhrase "gross"]] (changed to "That's so lame" in the Creator/{{FUNimation}} dub) -- her ''only line'' -- to be incredibly grating and unfair to [[TheHero Shido]].
* ''Manga/DeathNote'':
** Near has earned a Scrappy status from many fans who viewed him as a [[ReplacementScrappy poor knock-off of L]]. ''[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near_(Death_Note)#Conception_and_development_of_Near Even Tsugumi Ohba bashed him.]]''
** Kiyomi Takada. Whenever fans talk about her, it's either that she was a [[InformedAbility informed intelligent]] fool who easily fell for Light's charms or a stuck up jerk, particularly on how she treated Misa. She even gets plenty of flak from fangirls who swore to exact their revenge on her for [[spoiler:killing [[DracoInLeatherPants Mello]] - though it's hard to imagine a worse fate for her than the one that actually transpired]].
** And of course, Misa Amane whom many found annoying, stupid, unlikable ([[SarcasmMode you know among]] [[GreyAndGreyMorality such likable, clearly heroic characters]]), and being a [[HetIsEw heterosexual woman]] in a series that has a following among YaoiFangirls.
* ''Manga/DetectiveConan'':
** The Detective Boys. Ayumi, Mitsuhiko and Genta are normal children who unknowingly befriend an undercover TeenGenius in a series filled with complex murder mysteries. Thus, they tend to ignore all his instructions of caution which puts their lives in danger or comes close to blowing his cover multiple times. They even view Conan as the lowest member of the group while trying to stop him taking all the credit for helping solve cases. They ''do'' get better in the manga, as they come to appreciate Conan's talent, start to develop their own abilities, and befriend another Teen Genius (Ai Haibara) who keeps them more in line, but this is generally not reflected in the anime {{filler}}s where they will remain in Scrappy status in the eyes of many fans.
** While not as universally reviled as the Detective Boys, Kogoro Mouri seems to have his share of haters. This stems from the fact that he's a {{Jerkass}} SmallNameBigEgo who's prone to many KickTheDog moments with Conan. Two stood out: One was when Conan, with logical reasoning, tried convincing Kogoro not to automatically assume a woman he's attracted to is innocent (She was indeed the killer), only for him to punch Conan. In one of the rare occasions he's actually confronted for hitting Conan, he respondes with "He started it by being annoying!" Another was the episode where he broke his leg. In the hospital, he didn't want to miss a Yoko Okino TV event. While Conan was out solving the case, the Detective Boys were wheeling him to the nearest TV, but were slowing down due to lack of manpower. When Conan shows up, Kogoro threatens to put him on the streets if he missed the show.
** Sonoko Suzuki also has her fair share of haters, who accused her of being a RichBitch who is selfish, perverted, and arrogant to the point where she makes Shinichi look humble.
** For the love of god, INSPECTOR YAMAMURA. Yamamoron (as he's nicknamed by fans of the show) is so incompetent that he manages to make KOGORO seem like an excellent detective in comparison. Not helping matters is the fact that he refused to acknowledge Conan's genius in his debut episode, and that he's commonly featured in filler cases outside of the Tokyo area (at the expense of the [[EnsembleDarkhorse Nagano Trio: Yamato, Morofushi, and Uehara]]).
* ''Manga/ElfenLied'': Yuka, due to the fact that she is in love with her cousin and physically beats him up for no reason. Plus the fact that she goes into {{Wangst}} over things which are [[AngstDissonance comparatively minor]], in contrast to almost everyone else on the show - even when you have positive traits, being selfish in contrast to the other members of the cast is ''not'' the way to go with a character... Though odds are that her more unreasonable haters can probably find ''some'' way [[InsaneTrollLogic to blame her]] for Lucy's MoralEventHorizon crossing (which ''wasn't her fault at all'').
* Most fans of ''Eiken'' dislike Komoe for her {{squick}}y character concept (an elementary school student with ''very'' large GagBoobs). There are many people who refuse to watch/read it ''because'' they're so grossed out by her.
* ''Anime/EurekaSeven'':
** Those ''Goddamn kids''. Linck in particular. They cry in almost all of their appearances, are completely spoiled, and their continual cries of "Mama!" can become straight up the MostAnnoyingSound in the series. Maurice shows his Scrappy colors later on, when they're lost [[spoiler:on Earth]]. "Only love me, mama! No one else!" And then Renton and Eureka just have to go and be so damn ''understanding'' about it.
** Holland's general treatment of Renton during the first half of the series is downright brutal at times. The fact he uses Renton as a punching bag on multiple occasions, basically taking out his own inadequacies on a kid, and that he [[spoiler:used to date Renton's sister and even recognized Renton as her younger sibling]] only adds insult to literal injury... More than enough to be loathed by many fans. By the second half of the series, however, he gets RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap thanks to him accepting the fact that Renton is TheChosenOne and eventually reconciling with him.
** Most of the Gekkostate members get this treatment due to their cruel mistreatment of Renton, [[EnsembleDarkhorse Moondoggie]] and Talho (After she TookALevelInKindness and began [[TakeThatScrappy calling Holland out]]) being some of the few exceptions.
** In the sequel ''Anime/EurekaSevenAo'': Truth is this for being an OutsideContextProblem with ComboPlatterPowers in a series where there is no superpowers. at all. Not to mention his randomly killing people and other things. Ironically, Archetype!Truth is looked upon more favorably and the lack of focus on him is considered a case of TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot.
* ''Anime/FairyMusketeers'': Viewers almost unanimously hate [[TheChick Ringo]]. Her [[ClingyJealousGirl negative traits]] are even pointed out in the show, when her friends in her own world note how [[TsunDere harsh she is toward her friends]]. When everyone else begins to trust [[TheWoobie Gretel]], Ringo is, not surprisingly the only one against it, angrily at that. One episode even goes out of it's way to make her see that she's [[TheLoad dead weight]]. Her aggressive personality isn't too surprising, considering she's voiced by Creator/RieKugimiya.
* [[HeManWomanHater Louis]] [[AristocratsAreEvil El]] [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil Bridget]] from ''Manga/{{Freezing}}'' is, without a doubt, the most hated character in the manhwa, and [[JustifiedTrope for more than good reasons]]: he regularly abused and molested his half-sister Satella, causing her to develop [[HatesBeingTouched a crippling phobia of being touched]] and kick-starting a great majority of her issues. It was bad enough that, since he couldn't have his way with Satella anymore, he molested and raped his own Pandora [[JerkassWoobie Holly]] [[LoveMartyr Rose]] because she looked like his half-sister. And the hatred for him only solidified during the Bali arc, in which he tried to make Satella come back to him, and gave [[NiceGuy Kazuya]] a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown when he stood up to Satella, not to mention treated poor Holly Rose like garbage. [[spoiler:The fact that he got a KarmaHoudini, was EasilyForgiven by Satella, and had a HeelFaceTurn after pulling a NoOneCouldSurviveThat only served to make his many haters rage.]]
* ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist:'' Noah from TheMovie of the first anime, ''[[Anime/FullmetalAlchemistTheConquerorOfShamballa Conqueror of Shamballa]]'', is pretty disliked. It's fairly telling that she was heavily teased as a possible love interest for Ed, and yet everyone ships him with [[HoYay Alfons Heiderich]] instead.
* ''LightNovel/FullMetalPanic'': Leonard Tessarossa. Sure, he was made out to be a (relatively) "honorable," NobleDemon whose intentions, [[KnightTemplar extreme as they may be]], could be considered grander and more for the greater good than anything {{So|ciopathicHero}}usuke [[TheStoic would care for]]. However, his cockiness and InsufferableGenius, along with his superiority complex have earned him great ire among fandom. He ''especially'' gets flak after manhandling Kaname and {{brainwash|ed}}ing her, causing her to become an angsting DamselInDistress. And interestingly enough, being a PrettyBoy seemed to actually work ''against'' him, as numerous people have taken to despising him for being a SissyVillain, calling him "[[FanNickname Leotard]]". The funniest part is that he's ''supposed'' to be the most sympathetic villain that the series has (seeing how Gauron and Gates are [[AxCrazy psychotic]], insane pedophiles), yet he appears to be the most hated.
* ''Manga/FushigiYuugi'': The anime's portrayal of Miaka tends to get disliked. The manga portrays her in a more realistic way. Ashitare, Yui and Tomo have also gained a degree of Scrappydom. In fact, Miaka is one of the most ''hated'' female characters in anime/manga -- to the degree when fans used a "Level of Suck" meter to measure other shoujo heroines. "At least she's not a Miaka".
** Ironically, [[ReplacementScrappy Mayo Sakaki]] from ''Eikoden'' actually [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap replaced Miaka as the Scrappy in the eyes of some fans]] with the release of ''Eikoden''.
* ''Manga/FutureDiary'':
** [[UselessProtagonist Yukiteru Amano]]. To put it in simple terms, he's the main character of a manga in which [[ThereCanOnlyBeOne 12 people are selected to kill each other for the honor of becoming God]], yet is easily scared of everything. The way that he always [[EasilyForgiven lets Yuno hang around him despite all she's done might make some people think that he's got some nice morals]] but he's always [[DirtyCoward doing it for his own protection]]. Once he finally does stand up for himself and act cool-headed however, he's considered RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap.
** Yukiteru's father, Kurou is probably the most hated character in the series. He only re-enters his son's life so he can destroy his cell phone to clear his relatively small debt (in all fairness, he seems to have no idea that this will kill him). He's a huge DirtyCoward who steals his son's parachute to escape from a collapsing tower, leaving him and his girlfriend to die, then [[spoiler:stabs his ex-wife, accidentally killing her, when she tries to turn him in to the police for it.]]
* ''Manga/GirlsBravo'': Kirie. In the first season her regular (and rather brutal) beatings of AccidentalPervert Yukinari (sometimes for no reason at all), who's supposed to be her ''best friend'', tendency to assume the worst of him if she should find him around a half naked girl, and unwillingness to listen to him explain his actions, did ''not'' earn her any points in the fandom. Neither did her tendency to verbally berate him if she suspected he was being perverted (which he wasn't) by [[{{Hypocrite}} calling ''him'' a jerk]]. Not to mention Kirie knows Yukinari has a fear of women (as a result of being bullied by them all his life) and developed an allergy to them because of it. One would question why she ''still'' keeps beating the crap out of him in spite of that. In fact, some fans say it's because of {{Tsundere}}s like Kirie that they grew to hate {{Tsundere}}s in general. She becomes nicer in the second season and her number of moments beating Yukinari decrease heavily. For some fans, it worked, for many, it was too little too late.
** Fukuyama, an obnoxious pervert. Unlike Kirie, he get's no character development. Even WebVideo/TheCartoonHero picked him over her to be in his Top 10 Most Hated Animated Characters list.
** Souta turns into this after his stupidity [[spoiler:gets Hare killed]].
** Arisa and some students after [[spoiler:they stabbed Shu in the back]]. After he succeeds in breaking them out of the enclosing wall that would have doomed the city.
* ''Manga/HajimeNoIppo'':
** [[TheRival Ichiro Miyata]], mostly due to the accusation that he became a one-man SpotlightStealingSquad during his endlessly long fight with Randy Boy Jr.
** Surprisingly, Ippo's love interest Kumi Mashiba has ''escaped'' DieForOurShip and/or RealWomenNeverWearDresses based bashing, even from [[YaoiFangirl the yaoi corner]]...
** Not everybody hates him, but Takamura is a completely unsympathetic JerkAss who does unreasonably atrocious things to his friends, while also being a raging MartyStu.
** Manabu Itakagi gets a lot of hate for being incredibly [[{{Pride}} cocky]].
* ''Manga/HayateTheCombatButler'' has Hayate's AbusiveParents. Even though their abuse is played for laughs, they make [[WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents Mr. and Mrs. Turner]] look like Parents of the Year.
* ''Manga/{{Himegoto}}'': The student council members 18+, Unko, and Bell are disliked by nearly every fan depsite being major characters. They constantly harrass and bully the main character and are almost ''never'' called out on it, and they have very few non-negated PetTheDog moments. All three of them also suffer from bland characterization. 18+ gets the most hate for her perversion and the fact that she's pushed as the main love interest for no real reason.
* ''LightNovel/InfiniteStratos'': Ichika Orimura, the protagonist, gets vitriol from people who believe that the show would be better if this bland blockhead wasn't around and simply focused on [[SchoolGirlSeries the girls doing funny antics]].
* ''Manga/InuYasha'':
** Fans hate Shippo for being a [[MouthyKid smart-mouthed]], whiney, [[TheLoad useless]] BrattyHalfPint.
* ''Anime/KaleidoStar'': May Wong from the second season, owed heavily to her initial snobbish attitude (until Leon decides to engage in a bit of painful "[[BreakTheHaughty attitude adjustment]]"). Even after [[CharacterDevelopment she]] ''[[CharacterDevelopment does]]'' [[CharacterDevelopment learn the lesson]] (and learns it ''quicker'' than Leon himself), fans simply [[NeverLiveItDown will NOT stop raging against her.]]
* ''LightNovel/{{Kampfer}}'': Natsuru has scrappy status among fans for being [[ObliviousToLove incredibly dense]].
* ''Manga/KatekyoHitmanReborn'': While it's unclear where he stands in the Japanese fandom, Naito Longchamp was near-universally despised by a large percentage of overseas fans due largely to his goofy appearance and rambunctious personality. This only applies to the manga, however; the anime wound up writing him out of the plot entirely. However, this may be undergoing a reverse process -- fans have claimed that Longchamp appearing may be the only thing that can ''save'' the show.
* ''Anime/KiddyGirlAnd'': Ascoeur draws a lot of flak for her high-pitched screaming and childish behavior throughout the series. She barely gets her act together as the show progresses, which many viewers regard as way too late.
* [[CreatorsPet Tiff/Fumu]] from ''Anime/KirbyOfTheStars'' is this to a ton of people. Not only is she a know-it-all joykill, but she tends to [[SpotlightStealingSquad get more screentime than Kirby himself]] and likes to bitch about everything and boss everyone around. It doesn't help that a lot of people consider her to be an anime version of [[TheSimpsons Lisa Simpson]].
** Tokkori is debatably worse. Give Tiff/Fumu some credit, she's kind and supportive of Kirby. Tokkori, on the other hand, is a mean-spirited JerkAss who contributes nothing outside of being difficult and a jerk to Kirby.
* ''Manga/KotouraSan'':
** Hiyori is nearly universally hated by fans due to her (mis)treatment of Haruka. She's Manabe's HopelessSuitor, but he and Haruka are the OfficialCouple.
** The unnamed old woman who [[spoiler:takes the stray cat Haruka had been feeding to a shelter]] gets a special mention; she has collected many death threats from fans [[WhamLine just by saying a few words to Haruka]].
* Yoshiko Tanaka from ''Anime/TheLegendOfBlackHeaven'' is an example of this category, compared to everything that goes on in the series. She is also the reason for her husband, Oji Tanaka's initial mid-life depression.
* ''Anime/{{Maburaho}}'': The members of Kazuki and Yuna's class (and the two class representatives in particular) may be collectively the most petty and selfish class in anime, putting Kazuki on trial and trying to mete out punishments simply because he is friendly with Yuna. They even go so far as to sabotage a collaboration with another class just to spite [[NiceGuy Kazuki]].
* ''Anime/MacrossDelta'': The Windemerans as a faction suffer from inconsistent motivations (they go from [[TheRevolutionWillNotBeCivilized independence]] to [[TakeOverTheWorld galactic conquest]] just to show off their new weapons), very few sympathetic characters and they hardly suffer any significant losses in their war effort.
** Bogue is the most blatant example. He is the most evil and bloodthirsty of the Aerial Knights and no one bothers to put him down. He would qualify as a JerkassWoobie if it weren’t for the fact that he treats his sad backstory as a license to be an asshole instead of a reason for viewers to sympathize with him. [[spoiler:[[KarmaHoudini He never suffers any comeuppance for his cruelty]], [[HumblePie except for having to swallow his pride and work with Walküre in the finale.]]]]
* ''Manga/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaVivid'': Miura is really not liked within the fandom, being a sudden awesome prodigy of the Wolkenritter who, when she shows up for the TournamentArc, trashes Vivio. Not only does she trash Vivio, she trashes her ''with a kicking version of Nanoha's Starlight Breaker''. Maybe it wouldn't of been so bad had this been near the end or the absolute end of the tournament, but no, she defeats Vivio ''at the near start''.
* ''Manga/MagicalRecordLyricalNanohaForce'':
** The manga adds up the newcomer Cypha of Huckebein as one of the Scrappies for [[spoiler:[[CurbStompBattle trashing fan favorite Signum through cheating]] and leaving her nearly dead. As she is the answer for ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration'''s [[BigBadWannabe Wilhelm von Juergen]], who committed similar crime to the character Signum is {{Expy}}-ing, Lamia Loveless, and he gets the same heat with her, it's like Cypha has resigned herself to this position from get-go.]]
** Curren seems to get a fair amount of hate for [[spoiler:[[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice stabbing]] Hayate to [[NegatedMomentOfAwesome interrupt a spell that would have been]] a Moment of Awesome for her, then defeating Vita and Erio, both of whom had the AEC weapons that Signum lacked, almost instantly]].
** The Huckebein in general are grossly overpowered unrepentant mass-murderers who treat the heroes of the series as [[SmugSnake no more than a nuisance]]. The writer actually expected people to find them likeable and sympathetic.
* ''Anime/MaiHime'':
** A sizable contingent of fandom has it in for male lead character Yuuichi Tate, as the NonActionGuy Love Interest of the redheaded heroine. His case isn't helped much by some of the [[WhatAnIdiot questionable actions]] he took to [[CanNotSpitItOut finally getting around to showing his affections]], most coming at the expense of his ChildhoodFriend Shiho Munakata.
** Shiho gets quite a bit of this, as well, because of her [[ClingyJealousGirl clinginess and jealous attitude]] to Yuuichi and [[spoiler:several attempts on Mai's life, as well as [[KickTheDog killing Mai's]] [[RevengeByProxy brother Takumi]].]].
* ''Anime/MaiOtome'': Sergey gets a lot of hate in some circles, because his interactions with Arika and Nina make him come off as a paedophile at times, even though it's ''Nina'' who takes the initiative, and also because he reminds some fans ([[{{Expy}} visually]]) of Yuuichi (see above).
* ''LightNovel/MariaSamaGaMiteru'':
** Touko ([[FanNickname Drill-chan]]) is disliked by a fairly large part of the fandom because of her [[{{Jerkass}} bitchy attitude]], despite all the efforts of the creator to present her in a more positive light. The fact that Yumi keeps relentlessly pursuing her as her petite soeur only adds to this, since a lot of fans think that there are more suitable candidates-- [[HugeSchoolGirl Kanako]], for instance.
** Compounding this is the fact that Kanako is called out for her initial bad behavior while Touko is never told to stop either by Sachiko or Yumi herself.
* ''Anime/MetalFightBeyblade'': Team Garcia, for mixing CombatPragmatist with DirtyCoward. Not even their backstory, which averts HeartwarmingOrphan, is enough to earn them a pass for most of the fanbase.
** To some, it's the fact that they tried to pull off the HeartwarmingOrphan routine to justify their acts. Because having a sympathetic backstory is supposed to make you instantly forgivable, right?
** And among the whole group, Enzo stands out due to bratty personality and the [[MostAnnoyingSound nerve-grating]] "[[CatchPhrase Amazing,huh?]]"
* ''Manga/{{Monster}}'' brings us Otto Heckler, a supposedly LovableRogue shoehorned into the animated version. He's so poorly integrated, there are numerous scenes they could have done without him. His 'comedic antics' do not fit in with the dark, compelling nature of the show, even his wide, cartoonish features look out of place. His incessant chatter does not help matters, if there's no one else around, he'll even talk to himself! He gets worse during the attempted arson of the Turkish district. While everyone else is trying to save lives, his only concern is pawning an expensive rug, which just comes off as despicable.
* ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia'': Mineta Minoru gets a lot of hate. Many see him as a FlatCharacter, existing only for pervert jokes, and accuse him of sexual harassment. The fact that he was chosen for the heroes course above Shinso, a far more popular character, doesn't help. He tends to be near or at the bottom in popularity polls.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Others N-Z]]
* ''Anime/NadiaTheSecretOfBlueWater'': [[SeriesMascot King]] is thought of as being the series' default Scrappy due in a small part to his cartoonish traits in a setting that doesn't quite fit with them, and partially for being the driving force of many of the Filler episodes during the Island and Africa arcs, which most of the fans, and even the director himself, like to pretend were never included in the first place (with the exception of episodes 30 and 31). The fact that he has almost no impact whatsoever on or involvement with the main plot of the series also adds to his Scrappiness.
* ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'':
** Sakura Haruno. First, she was disliked because [[DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale she constantly punches Naruto and is incredibly condescending towards him]], even though she resolved to be nicer to him. Then, she was disliked because [[WeUsedToBeFriends she broke off her friendship with Ino in the past]] for an extremely petty reason--they both liked Sasuke. Then, she was disliked because out of Team 7, she's had by far the least characterization drive plotted into her--Naruto wants to become Hokage; Sasuke wants to avenge his clan; Sakura wants to...win Sasuke's heart? Then, she was disliked because [[FauxActionGirl she wasn't]] [[TheLoad powerful enough]] and often let her {{fangirl}}ing over [[TheStoic Sasuke]] take away from her potential. However, when Part II started, it was revealed that she trained with Tsunade in [[TheMedic the medical arts]] and [[TookALevelInBadass became a competent ninja in her own right]] during the TimeSkip, and it looked like she was RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap, especially after [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome her fight against Sasori]]. However, people quickly disliked her again because she didn't do anything significant afterwards. Her subsequent re-{{Chickification}}, AesopAmnesia, inability to kill the defected-Sasuke, hesitance to destroy Obito's Rinnegan eye so that Madara wouldn't be able to take it, thus [[NiceJobBreakingItHero bringing about the beginning of the Infinite Tsukuyomi]], her general crying and relying on Naruto again like in Part I, and, [[NeverLiveItDown most infamously]], her [[FalseConfession painfully fake love confession]] to Naruto in [[ShipSinking Chapter 469]], has not been very well-received by her fans, let alone by her non-fans and the more neutral fans. While she did get RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap again in the {{canon}} movie ''Anime/TheLastNarutoTheMovie'', due to her being Naruto and Hinata's CoolBigSis and ShipperOnDeck, [[BrokenBase the fanbase is split even further]] due to her actions in ''Manga/NarutoGaiden'': She doesn't know if Sasuke wears glasses, punches and breaks her house when Sarada presses her for more information about Sasuke and makes Sarada cry, and has no records of Sarada's birth anywhere in Konoha to confirm that she really is Sarada's mother. While the climax reveals that Sakura is indeed Sarada's birth mother, her actions did nothing to win over the fandom because [[IdiotPlot the entire plot]] could have been avoided had she been open and honest with Sarada from the beginning.
** Karin is also hated for due to being characterized as only being obsessed with Sasuke, essentially being a rip-off of Part I Sakura. While initially RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap after being stabbed by Sasuke just to kill Danzo [[UngratefulBastard despite healing him just now]], after she reverts back to being obsessed and [[EasilyForgiven quickly forgave]] Sasuke, she becomes TheScrappy again to the point that [[UnintentionallyUnsympathetic fans hardly reacted when she was in tears over the fact that Sasuke is stabbed by Madara]].
** [[EvilMatriarch Kaguya Ootsutsuki]]. Immediately after she makes her debut she's already despised for hijacking the plot [[ShockingSwerve completely out of nowhere]], shifting the storyline unnecessarily to a new villain arc and making the already horrendously convoluted plot even more so. Add to the list, her resealing about only 30 chapters after her first mention, meaning she [[GenericDoomsdayVillain never gets any characterization]] beyond her lust for power and contributes essentially nothing to the story aside from extending its length and [[BadGuysDoTheDirtyWork killing off Madara and Obito]], meaning some will hate her due to her sheer pointlessness.
* ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'': While the main characters are all very divisive, some characters are flat-out Scrappies:
** Pen-Pen as some consider such a purely implausible and "cartoon" character out of place in the middle of a dramatic and dark series.
** Ritsuko Akagi gets flak for obsessing over Gendo Ikari and [[spoiler:destroying anything involving Rei (the cloning aquarium, the Dummy Plug) out of a combination of insanity and envy, while the current Rei dies defeating one of the Angels, no less.]]
** For people who sympathize with Shinji, Gendo makes this list for being the cause of Shinji's emotional problems.
* From ''Nyatto!'', [[SchoolgirlLesbian Anzu]]. The general agreement among the readers is that the [[JumpTheShark shark was jumped]] with her introduction, which draws many complaints the manga taking a turn from [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot an unique story of a guy growing a relationship with his long-time pet kitty turned into a prissy catgirl that wants to turn him into her butler,]] to your standard harem series where the main character is always a ButtMonkey, as well Anzu often beating up, berating and punishing Shigeru for his perverted antics...[[{{Hypocrite}} when she is as much of a pervert as he is]] and yet [[DoubleStandard Anzu always gets away with her own antics]].
* ''Anime/OjamajoDoremi'':
** Since Pop wasn't given much of a role in the first place and was mostly a BrattyHalfPint AnnoyingYoungerSibling for almost two seasons, she tends to be disliked by the fanbase. Most of her detractors claim that her presence in the story was unnecessary, and her personality pre-CharacterDevelopment didn't help either.
** Hana is also considered one of the least favorites of the fan community due to her qualities of being a "cute" [[CuteClumsyGirl Clumsy Girl]] (read: causes trouble), and somewhat of a BrattyHalfPint when she gets upset (read: causes more trouble).
** Out of all the classmates, Tamaki is probably liked the least. She brags about how her father never punishes her as opposed to the other girls in her class and thinks that punishing your child is "barbaric". She makes fun of Momoko and Hana during their respective first days of school, Momoko for technically being a foreigner and Hana for acting like a toddler.
** Other than Tamaki, some of the male classmates were scrappies for one at least one episode. Notably the SOS Trio for teasing Naomi, and for the idiotic strategy they used to "beat" Mutsumi in a wrestling match.
* ''VisualNovel/OokamiKakushi'': Isuzu too to an extent--she didn't get as ''much'' hatred as Hiroshi (and some of it lightened up when she was temporarily PutOnABus), but not everyone found her [[ClingyJealousGirl clingy, stalker-ish habits]] amusing.
* Creator/OsamuTezuka's ReusedCharacterDesign: Ham Egg. Whether [[Manga/AstroBoy he's a nasty circus manager]], [[Manga/KimbaTheWhiteLion a poacher who killed off the hero's parents]], [[Manga/{{Phoenix}} or an organ smuggler]], he's found to be a total SmugSnake by fans.
* ''Anime/OtogiZoshi'': Kintarou looks like an example of the BrattyHalfPint variety. Most of the characters are fairly serious, and then you throw in an obnoxious, super-strong kid.
* ''Manga/PandoraHearts'':
** Jack Vessalius. When he first appeared, he was a mysterious, kind benefactor who wished to protect the amnesiac girl. Now, when it is quite likely that he has been [[spoiler:the cause of the tragedy of Sablier and the true evil villain all along who manipulated everyone else all along.]] More than likely, many people will not love him anymore.
** Vincent Nightray, for being a selfish, abusive sociopath who uses the hero's little sister's feelings for him to his advantage, and manipulates everyone. [[spoiler:He also cut out a cat's eyes with scissors and mocked Alice simply out of jealousy.]]
** Duke Barma. It's all for the sake of love does not make up for the fact that he is a general jackass, speaks in YeOldeButcheredEnglish, communicates by creepy illusions, and will switch sides to suit his purposes. He has had one goal for the past fifty years, marry the MoralityChain. She hasn't said yes yet.
* ''Manga/ThePrinceOfTennis'':
** Main character Ryoma Echizen himself, for being a borderline MartyStu and behaving like a jerk (especially toward rival and [[EnsembleDarkhorse unexpected fan favorite]] Keigo Atobe who, according to his fangirls, can absolutely do NO wrong).
** Tomoka Osakada, for being a loud [[{{Tsundere}} self-appointed Echizen fangirl]] who can sometimes be [[BrattyHalfPint pushy, airheaded and bitchy]]. [[HetIsEw Also, for being female]].
** [[ShrinkingViolet Sakuno Ryuzaki]], for being TheKlutz and a bit of an ExtremeDoormat in the anime, though her less klutzy manga self is [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap better regarded]]. [[HetIsEw Again, she's also female]].
** Satoshi Horio, for being a loudmouthed NonActionGuy who brags and talks yet accomplishes nothing and is the local ChewToy,
** Seiichi Yukimura, for being a girly-looking mixture of IllGirl and ManipulativeBastard who will do [[BrokenAesop almost]] ''[[KnightTemplar anything]]'' [[JerkJock to let his team win]] and [[DieForOurShip gets in betwen Atobe and Sanada]], and;
** [[ButNotTooForeign Jackal Kuwahara]], for being the only Rikkai guy [[BadassNormal who plays]] ''[[BadassNormal normal]]'' [[BadassNormal tennis]] and stealing what rabid fangirls perceived as Hiroshi Yagyuu's designated place in the finals.
* ''Manga/PrisonSchool'':
** Shingo is the most hated of the five boys among the Prison School fandom due to his hypocritical and selfish behavior.
** Early on, Mari is perhaps the most hated female character among the Prison School fandom, especially during her turn as the main antagonist in the first story arc. She had redeemed herself in much of the fandom's eyes after going through some character development in the 2nd story arc though.
** To a lesser extent, Chiyo gets flak for being a NiceGirl who stood out among the entire cast like a sore thumb, more due to being boring instead of actual dislike of the character.
* ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'':
** Hitomi gets a ''lot'' of flak from the fanbase because she told Sayaka that she has 24 hours to tell Kyosuke her feelings (LockedOutOfTheLoop about why this wouldn't work for Sayaka aside, this is far too little time for such a decision), or else she will confess, or simply [[DieForOurShip they think Sayaka would be better with him]]. Also doesn't help in ''Rebellion'', when fans feel she complains about trivial things (like her boyfriend not paying attention to her in favour of studying) when the rest of the cast are embroiled in life or death struggles.
** You'd be very hard-pressed to find a fan who ''likes'' Kyosuke. At best, fans are neutral towards him. At worst, people loathe him for being a [[HetIsEw male]] in a show full of yuri subtext and being an [[DieForOurShip "obstacle"]] to Kyoko/Sayaka, not telling Sayaka that he got out of the hospital, or being a "dense idiot" who committed the 'crime' of being ObliviousToLove and didn't deserve Sayaka ''or'' [[spoiler:Hitomi's]] love. Fans gained more reason to hate him when he reacts [[FreakOut poorly]] to [[spoiler:[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-na_Bzmvk4 Sayaka's appearance]] in a BadEnding of the PSP game]].
* ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'': Happosai. A large number of fans have a serious dislike for him, some even going so far as to avoid watching episodes/reading chapters in which he plays a prominent role. The reason generally stems from the fact he is the MiniatureSeniorCitizens equivalent of a DirtyOldMan and a PantyThief, while also being an {{evil|Mentor}} FairWeatherMentor OldMaster, notable as being childish, selfish and immature, even compared to [[ComedicSociopathy everyone else]] in the {{s|adistShow}}eries. Generally, if Happosai shows up, he's going to either be groping and harrassing every female (born or [[GenderBender made]]) in sight, causing trouble because he's a {{Jerkass}}, trying to get revenge on Ranma for interfering with him being a nuisance, or some combination of the aforementioned. It certainly doesn't help matters that most episodes with Happosai end up as a KarmaHoudini for him. Most of the terrible things he does either goes unpunished because Genma and Soun are too cowardly to stand up to him without Ranma, or ''Ranma'' gets the blame when it's more obviously Happosai's fault. Not to mention that Happosai is one of, if not the definite cause of the series having a BittersweetEnding. [[spoiler:Mistaking the Jusenkyo water sent to the Saotome household for sake, and drinking it all up before any of the other characters can use it to cure their respective curses]].
* ''Anime/RevolutionaryGirlUtena'': Nanami Kiryuu is an AlphaBitch, a ClingyJealousGirl and a prominent face in the series' filler episodes, which causes many viewers to write her off as either an obnoxious nuisance or pointless comic relief. While it's been alleged that members of staff disliked her (supposedly the reason she only got a very limited role in TheMovie, and as a cow at that) director Creator/KunihikoIkuhara is quite fond of her; apparently, she was modeled after a girl he liked when he was younger, but who never gave him the time of day. She wasn't integral to the movie plot, and Chiho Saitou was in charge of the manga (where she only appears in a single photograph) hence the discrepancy in her appearances between each adaptation. However, Nanami does become RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap for many fans once episodes 31 and 32 roll around, in which she becomes [[JerkassWoobie just too pitiful to hate]].
* ''Anime/{{Robotech}}'' and ''Anime/SuperDimensionFortressMacross'' includes:
** Lin Minmei is widely despised, especially among haters of [[IdolSinger princess-like pop divas]] and [[DieForOurShip rabid Misa/Hikaru fans]]. A lot of this actually comes from the ''Robotech'' side of the fandom, where not only was Minmei's portrayal less moe and more annoying to Western sensibilities, but her voice actress... was perhaps not the best vocalist that could have been chosen for the role. When ''Macross'' saw an English-dubbed rerelease (as ''Macross'', not as ''Robotech''), the producers attempted to curb the hatred by hiring Mari Iijima, Minmei's original actress, for the role. This fixed the issues with her singing, but it also meant she was the only character who spoke with a heavy Japanese accent out of the cast.
** One name: Lynn Kaifun. Whereas Minmay's actions can be seen as those of a confused, emotionally needy NaiveEverygirl attempting to survive in a ruthless world of adults, Kaifun comes off as less sympathetic and much more of a straight-up, abusive JerkAss. Not to mention that he kept railing on the military for being warlike murderers. [[TooDumbToLive While giant aliens are actively trying to kill the lot of them]]. He gets even worse in the final arc of ''Macross'', when the Earth is trying to rebuild after being decimated, turning into a spiteful drunk who emotionally (and sometimes physically) abuses Minmei because she isn't in too big of a demand (and can only pay in paultry gifts for her singing), and just leaves without any real retribution for ''any'' of his crap. Also for a self-proclaimed pacifist, he sure does know how to do spinkicks, something lampshaded in the Robotech novel adaptations. Also, he was trying to get together with Minmei... his cousin. For many, this was quite squick-worthy.
* ''Anime/RoninWarriors'': Depending on which segment of the fandom you ask, this role could be taken on by any combination of [[TeamMom Natsuti/Mia]], [[BrattyHalfPint Jun/Yulie]], Lady Kayura or Suzunagi from the OAV.
* ''Manga/RozenMaiden'': Hinaichigo and Kanaria are easily the two least popular of the dolls, especially because they're seen as "less mature" than the others. Still, [[AlasPoorScrappy it's kinda sad]] [[spoiler:watching Hina slowly wind down to her inevitable death (anime) or [[CruelAndUnusualDeath being strangled and eaten]] by Kirakishou (manga)]]. The biggest reason for the hate toward Kanaria is the fact that [[spoiler: EnsembleDarkhorse Suiseiseki performs a HeroicSacrifice to let her escape, which she responds to by foolishly going back and getting killed like an idiot anyway, rendering her death pointless.]]
* ''Manga/SaintSeiya'':
** Seiya. HotBlooded, {{Determinator}} and IdiotHero can only be tolerated to a certain point, and Seiya unfortunately goes well past ''that point''. Depends on the locality the show is airing in, but a large part of the western fanbase hate him.
** We also have, among the Golden Saints, Cancer Deathmask for being an outright bastard, and Pisces Aphrodite being bashed for being a ruthless GorgeousGeorge who [[SuckMyRose fights with poisoned roses]] and not with hand-to-hand techniques. The Hades Saga even seem to confirm both as Scrappies. Both Aphrodite and Deathmask go down like chumps early in the Hades chapter, and get re-re-re-killed by one of the Judges upon arriving in the underworld with a single attack. Sure, they [[spoiler: had also gone good along with the other resurrected saints and were trying to get close to Hades to kill him, but both were disposed of as quickly as most second string Spectres.]]
** The Steel Saints. MerchandiseDriven {{Kid Appeal Character}}s who [[BigDamnHeroes saved the main characters several times]] in the anime [[CanonForeigner despite it never happening in the manga]]. Need we say more?
* ''Manga/{{Saki}}'' Teru Miyanaga, the eponymous main character's [[AloofBigSister older sister]], attracted a fairly sizable hatedom after it's revealed that she has, when asked, refused to admit that she has a sister, when Saki had seemingly done nothing to deserve this. Quite a bit of the fandom wants Teru to get her comeuppance, rather than reconcile with Saki, even though the narrative remains sympathetic to Saki's goal.
* ''Manga/SangatsuNoLion'': Kyoko is almost always shown in a negative light in the series' narrative, verbally abusing or manipulating Rei, resulting in the audience generally regarding her with dislike, despite her sympathetic backstory.
* ''VisualNovel/SchoolDays'':
** Makoto Itou is quite possibly the single most hated anime character of all time. However, he was very likely intended to be a target of hate by his creators, due to being [[{{Jerkass}} utterly reprehensible]] in addition to [[WhatAnIdiot being a gigantic idiot]]. Even if he was, it backfired horribly, because a majority of the people who don't like School Days place the blame solely on how utterly despicable he is.
** This was [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap reversed]] in the manga version: Makoto is ''still'' a big moron, but at least there he does care for the girls. Sekai, who is now a [[ManipulativeBastard manipulative bitch]], replaces Makoto in the Scrappy Heap.
* ''Anime/SekaiIchiHatsukoi'':
** Chiaki is probably the most hated character given his [[WhatAnIdiot stupidity]] that can only go so far in a yaoi series, to his [[InnocentlyInsensitive insensitive]] nature (tell your best friend whose [[UnluckyChildhoodFriend obliviously in love with you]] to go hook up with someone else after you already pissed him off with lying to him (which by the way is implied to be Yanase's BerserkButton as well as breaking your promise to hang out with him) and finally being a huge brat about everything despite being at least 29. Sure he has his {{Woobie}} moments especially in the novel [[spoiler:where he was [[RapeasDrama brutally raped]] by his other best friend Hatori]] but that goes out the window when 1. He forgives said friend in an unrealistic fashion and 2. TookALevelInJerkass as a result of going out with him despite what Hatori done to him. So with each episode, you want to strangle Chiaki and it reaches its climax in the last episode concerning him where [[spoiler:he rejects Yanase one last time and this time, he {{break|TheCutie}}s [[HeroicBSOD down]] {{cry|Cute}}ing because Chiaki refuses to take him seriously.]] And what does he tell Yanase despite this? [[spoiler:I'll call you back later. You're my ''friend'' after all.]] WHAT THE HELL CHIAKI?! Alas, it will be really hard to find someone who likes Chiaki after that episode.
** Chiaki's boyfriend [[{{Yandere}} Hatori]] isn't any better. Despite having fans (who look past his faults and puts it straight into the DracoInLeatherPants territory), his actions in the series has turned a lot of people off and made people call him despicable human being. What did he do? Mentioned above he crossed the MoralEventHorizon for a lot of people when he [[spoiler:[[RapeAsDrama brutally raped]] Chiaki all because he thought Yanase was going to win in the battle of love.]] The worse part is he's a KarmaHoudini and gets to hook up with Chiaki. But it doesn't end there though. Hatori is possessive to the point that he tries to get Chiaki to cut ties with Yanase and their constant fighting HAS caused a rift between Chiaki and Yanase as shown in later episodes. There whole relationship is a MasochismTango. The part that made people seal the deal was the same episode that made people hate Chiaki [[WhamEpisode episode 16]] where he apparently cheats on Chiaki with his ex-girlfriend (he didn't but that doesn't change the fact that he let her touch his hair in an affectionate manner) and because he met with her though, he cancelled the date that Chiaki was looking forward to because it was the last time the movie he wanted to watch was airing in theaters. However, the minute he finds out that Chiaki went over to Yanase's place, it is implied that he threatened over the phone and then [[spoiler:broke into Yanase's house just to punch him in the face. Mind you, Yanase didn't fight back because he {{br|eakTheCutie}}oke from Chiaki's confession and Hatori made it worse.]] Again, Hatori is a KarmaHoudini despite his KickThemWhileTheyAreDown moment and is the only one who is really happy at the end of the episode.
* ''Manga/SgtFrog'':
** The anime is known for {{Flanderization}}, adding several new recurring characters or expanding their roles. One of the most despised anime-exclusive characters is Joriri, an unshaven bum who first appeared in the Chibi-Kero {{Flashback}} episodes. Basically a {{Perma Stubble}}d {{Expy}} for Adult!Keroro, he serves as a bad role model for the young tadpoles and engages in lots of [[SpotlightStealingSquad scene-stealing antics]]. His first appearance bore a striking resemblance to one manga chapter focused on Giroro's relationship with his brother, leading fans to label Joriri a ReplacementScrappy. ([[MisBlamed The chapter was later adapted faithfully, but by then it was too late]], [[SpotlightStealingSquad and they'd found other reasons to hate him]].) His frequent reappearances have him verging on CreatorsPet, particularly after he abruptly showed up on Earth and shacked up with the Platoon.
** Kululu is deliberately written as a JerkAss, and it's obvious everyone else is ''supposed'' to hate him, but it doesn't help that he does little of interest. More specifically, he's less of a character and more of a plot device used to add machines or science-goes-awry scenarios to the plot.
** The anime's version of Dororo gets a lot of flak for seeming like a whiny, degenerate hermit compared to his more "speak softly but carry a big stick" portrayal in the manga. He's commonly demoted to being the SixthRanger (even though it's a FiveManBand), not present in many plots involving the rest of the Keronians, and while he tries to be the OnlySaneMan against their more wicked ideas, he's nowhere near as assertive as his manga counterpart and ends up the ButtMonkey a lot. What makes this all even worse is that his partner, Koyuki, is still shown as outgoing in the anime, and constantly interracting with her friends, which only draws attention to the fact that meanwhile, Dororo seems to be sulking in a corner somewhere.
** Natsumi for her condescending attitude, her blatant racism towards the Keronians, beating them even in times when they don't deserve it. [[JerkassBall The Girls Day]] [[{{Flanderization}} episode]] [[{{Wangst}} didn't help much either]].
* ''LightNovel/ShakuganNoShana'': Kazumi Yoshida. Aside of the DieForOurShip and RealWomenNeverWearDresses factors, there's the fact that people think she's shallow, boring, clichéd schoolgirl-in-love-for-a-classmate, steals too much screentime for her little romantic-anime antiques and, for the final blow, her impact to the overall plot is almost null. A quick Google search turns up comments on her such as "The single greatest flaw with this series is that she isn't dead yet." That said, at least some people saw her as RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap during the events of ''Final''.
* ''Manga/ShamanKing'':
** Pirika, since many feel her character is useless and annoying.
** Lyserg and the rest of the X-laws (mostly Marco though out of them, but they all are still generally not liked AT ALL) are not very popular with the Shaman King fans, because they come off as [[HolierThanThou self-righteous]] and {{Hypocrite}}s... then there is the fact that they [[MoralEventHorizon kill people]] [[DisproportionateRetribution they deem evil]]-[[FamilyUnfriendlyDeath rather viciously]]. Marco and Lyserg are the most hated out of all of them. Lyserg for whining all the time about how he's gonna get revenge for Hao killing his parents, then leaving Yoh and Co. for the X-laws, and continuing from there after acting like a preachy brainwashed, hypocritical idiot. Marco for being a bigoted, hypocritical ass who looked down on everyone not in the X-laws. Though this is mostly how it was in the anime, and where the hatred comes from. The X-laws and Lyserg show their character development much sooner in the manga than in the anime, therefore they grew better on the fandom, in the anime however, this character development only came near the last few episodes.
* ''LightNovel/{{Slayers}}'':
** Amelia was definitely this for a while in the western fandom. In her first few episodes in the anime, she was a bratty little kid whose naivete, klutziness, and obsession with justice were {{flanderiz|ation}}ed to the point where it pushed her into TooDumbToLive territory. Her first English voice actress made her seem even more annoying. Then the dub went on a year-and-a-half long hiatus, allowing that impression of Amelia to sink in with the fans. When the came back, Amelia was given a better voice actress (Veronica Taylor), and with time, she became more mature and better able to pull her weight in the group. However, the change was gradual and subtle enough that it couldn't overcome everyone's first impression of her, so some fans still hated her. The passage of time (several years), the shrinking of the fanbase (it's smaller, but also a good deal saner than it once was), and the translation of some of the original novels into English (Amelia's ''much'' more mature, has a good deal more awesome moments, and her idealism much less [[{{Flanderization}} exaggerated]]) has [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap softened]] fan opinion towards her considerably.
** From the fourth/fifth anime seasons is Pokota, the BrattyHalfPint prince who is almost as powerful as Lina yet remains rather bullheaded until the final few episodes. Even compared to the earlier secondary protagonists, even Sylphiel, he's either ignored or disliked.
* ''Manga/StrawberryOneHundredPercent'': The author stated that many of the fanletters she got said "I hate Chinami!". Considering Chinami was an incredibly superficial AttentionWhore during most of the series' run, the hatred is somewhat justified.
* ''Manga/SugarSugarRune'': Waffle. The title of episode 30, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin "The Annoying Witch Waffle Makes her Appearance"]], is already a bad sign, and things just go downhill from there. She's a BrattyHalfPint with a one-note personality (her obsession with Houx), and is [[TheMillstone always either getting into trouble herself or causing trouble for the main characters.]] Worse yet, she's an anime-original character. So fans know that any episode that features her prominently is guaranteed to be {{Filler}} that will not advance the main storyline.
* ''Sumarin Kanojo-tachi'' seems to almost be a social experiment in making the main character this. It stars a salaryman with a five-year-old daughter and a loving wife... whom he is cheating on with three different women. The manga portrays the trouble this brings him ''entirely sympathetically.'' He makes an occasional token effort to stop having affairs, but not very hard, partly due to being spineless. The first chapter opens with him about to jump in front of a train, then jumps back thirty days to explain how he got to that point, and almost everyone who reads it is hoping he is ''not'' prevented from going through with it -- "VisualNovel/SchoolDays Ending" has become something of a meme among readers.
* ''Anime/TamakoMarket'' has Dera, the animal mascot comic relief. He's contributed to many a viewer dropping the show with his antics.
* ''Anime/TenchiMuyo''.
** Mihoshi is so ditzy that it comes off as annoying, you can tolerate in her first appearances as she is a GeniusDitz who is still capable of being somewhat badass; however after CharacterizationMarchesOn, she becomes a whiny, hypocritically optimistic, and constantly accident prone WomanChild who drives her [[OnlySaneMan partner]] Kiyone over the brink of sanity with her incompetence for very understandable reasons, being that she's responsible for half of the stuff in the Universe series. [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot And she ruined the possibility in one episode of a clone of Washu being either more evil or one trying to replace the original with having it have her personality]]. As of the third OVA, however, her sudden [[TookALevelInDumbass drop in intelligence]] [[CerebusRetcon was revealed to be the result]] of a [[NoodleIncident romance that ended horribly for her]] in the interim period. Nonetheless, the damage had already been done to her reputation amongst fans.
** Possibly the most widely hated character is Noike, who is seen as a ReplacementScrappy for Kiyone from Universe.
** Sakuya from ''Anime/TenchiInTokyo'' gets a lot of flack for being a ReplacementLoveInterest [[spoiler:despite being part of Yugi's EvilPlan]], due to a number of things, mostly the fact that many people preferred the established "pairings".
* ''Anime/TenkaiKnights'' has Orangor and the Beast King, Scorpidon, for basically being one of the main reasons for causing a HostileShowTakeOver FillerArc lasting 5 episodes (about 1/5th of season 2) that is seemingly completely irrelevant to the show's MythArc. Orangor has a shrill high pitched voice and a RealityWarper that comes off as more annoying that funny. He usually ends up having the Knights and Beag chase him around and doing pointless contests, which leads to them and Vilius's troops trying to entertain the Scorpidon. Scorpidon is disliked for dragging out the arc by finding a way to keep changing the rules, thus causing them to start over. Ends up with a TakeThatScrappy that in the Arc's Final episode the Knights and Villius get fed up with it and decide to just beat them up.
* ''Anime/TokyoMajin'': Aoi Misato. It's bad enough she is totally useless, and doesn't really help the other main characters. However, she [[DistressBall constantly runs into danger trying to fight despite having no offensive powers and her friends telling to stay away]]. It gets worse when the characters begin to claim Aoi as courageous, despite her not really showing this trait. Also, Aoi wants to [[StupidGood save everyone, including the enemies who have committed mass murder]]. Even worse, [[spoiler:Aoi wanted to save the main villain (a person who committed a lot of murders), claiming "he didn't hurt anyone."]]
* ''Manga/TokyoMewMew'': Berry [[CreatorsPet completely stole]] [[SpotlightStealingSquad the spotlight]] from ''all'' of the main characters in the ''A La Mode'' manga. (Unsurprisingly, a lot of fans [[Discontinuity/AnimeAndManga want to forget that ever happened]], which is easy because Reiko Yoshida, the author, was not involved with ''A La Mode'' anyway.)
* The official manga of the ''VideoGame/{{Touhou}}'' series, ''Silent Sinner in Blue'', introduced two Scrappy characters, [[BoringInvincibleVillain Watatsuki no Yorihime]] and Watatsuki no Toyohime. The fandom had already, based on characterization and despite their antediluvian history and {{Magitek}} prowess, portrayed [[SpaceElves Lunarians]] as some of the worst monsters available in a series that makes other man-eating monsters affable; but the fans still didn't expect to find them so [[CantArgueWithElves insufferably]] [[PureIsNotGood offensive]]. They didn't even win sympathy points when [[spoiler:it was revealed that [[UnwittingPawn they were the fools]] [[MeaninglessVillainVictory buried at the bottom of]] [[GambitPileup everyone else's schemes.]] Possibly because, [[ContinuityLockout as far as manga readers were concerned]] [[AllThereInTheManual (but not novel readers)]], [[KarmaHoudini they only very slightly suffered from the whole thing because all they lost was a single, even if a thousand years old, bottle of sake.]]]]
* ''Anime/TransformersArmada'':
** The three children due to being a trio of [[CreatorsPet creator's pets]]. Alexis is somewhat less hated due to her role in Starscream's character arc but the others are largely despised.
** There's also the two bullies Billy and Fred -- the latter especially for his constant whining, obsession with eating, and tendency to ruin otherwise well set-up scenes. In fact, the writers themselves wanted to get rid of them... they just never found the right time to do so.
* ''Anime/TransformersEnergon'':
** Kicker. He's annoying, hates Transformers for stupid reasons, constantly complains, abuses the shit out of poor Ironhide, is often TheLoad for the Autobots, and is treated like [[CreatorsPet God's gift to]] [[CharacterShilling the universe]]. It doesn't help that he's [[KarmaHoudini never called out on his actions]].
*** Creator/BradSwaile, who provided the English dub voice for Kicker, has gone on record saying that [[OldShame he felt bad about playing him]] after he gained mainstream success with ''Manga/DeathNote''.
** Most fans were on the fence about Cyclonus, an incompetent, lazy Decepticon with an annoying voice, but upon his reformatting into Snow Cat, he amassed an entire hatedom due to his constant, unneeded, nerve-grating yodeling.
* The anime adaptation of ''Manga/TwinStarExorcists'' introduced Kinako, a familiar for Benio. Kinako is nearly universally hated by both fans of the original manga as well as anime-only watchers because he's entirely superfluous to the plot. His appearances tend to consist of some combination of him berating Rokuro, fawning over Benio-sama, or shouting "Oh no! A [[OurDemonsAreDifferent Kegare]] has appeared!"
* ''VisualNovel/UtaNoPrinceSama'':
** Haruka (at least for fans of the anime) for not being as interesting as her male co-stars.
** Cecil is hated by both the anime and game fandoms for his MartyStu-ness and how [[EthnicScrappy out-of-place]] he feels.
* ''Manga/WaGaNaWaUmishi'': Rintarou. Hated from day one, even within the manga, he has scarcely gotten any better.
* ''Manga/WanderingSon'':
** Fumiya gets a lot of hate from fans. He likes Chiba, which is already a bad part since Chiba is popular with shippers. He has a manipulative streak and is too clingy for Chiba, who isn't interested. Then he [[spoiler:started ''dating'' Chiba, which hasn't sat well with a majority of the fandom since it seems like an AssPull]]. Even prior to that he outed Nitori without her permission and without even knowing her.
** Momoko is fairly disliked by a majority of the fandom. She [[FlatCharacter only exists]] to be clingy toward Chizuru, and to get on characters bad sides. Unlike most other characters in the series, she has no HiddenDepths, despite having been in the manga for several years.
** Maho gets a lot of hate, especially from anime fans due to scenes where she's shown to care for Nitori are excluded. She's seen as a BrattyTeenageDaughter who constantly bullies Nitori.
* Yoriko from ''Manga/YoureUnderArrest''. She comes off as a whiny, scaredy-cat [[TheLoad load]] who does more trouble then good. What bugs the fanbase more is that she gets one or two episodes a season all about her, compared to more popular characters like Aoi.
* ''Manga/YuYuHakusho'': [[TheChick Keiko]] is disliked by many fans, largely because she's a (mostly) NeutralFemale whose personality revolves around Yusuke. In the manga, however, Keiko does have more of a personality and interests that don't involve her boyfriend.
* ''Anime/ZoidsNewCentury'':
** Harry Champ. Often thought of as an expy for Thomas, he suffered a similar backlash. Though the character is a well-meaning albeit egotistical goofball in canon, many fans find him annoying, and he's often despised by Bit/Leena shippers, who tend to subject him to RonTheDeathEater status in fanfic, taking him from "comically obsessed" to "evil stalker/rapist".
** Leena, who some consider even worse than Harry. She attacks Bit for the slightest infraction, [[DisproportionateRetribution from breaking his back for setting her up on a date with Harry]] to [[MoralEventHorizon attacking Bit with her Zoid for accidentally walking in on her in the shower]], and attacking her own teammates so that she is the sole winner of the fight.
