--> -Gelatin, who is currently voiced by Ian Woodside, is watching a previous clip of himself, being voiced by the former Graham Taylor-
--> ''' Gelatin: ''' (Confused) Why did my voice sound so weird back then?

-->-- ''WebAnimation/BattleForBFDI''

Overlooked by many web cartoons, independent studios would have most trouble maintaining some of their original cast members. In some cases, said actors would retire from the show to continue on bigger roles, sometimes production will lose contact of said actor, and at other times, the said actors would be caught for…doing something a bit controversial. So their role would get reprised by ''TheOtherDarrin''.

* In the ''WebAnimation/BestFiends'' webseries, Creator/MarkHamill voiced the character Temper. Starting with the short "Temper's Adventure", Creator/PhilLaMarr replaced him in the role. The episode lampshades the voice change, with Gordon pointing out that Temper's just cranky "since [his] voice changed".

* ''WebAnimation/BravestWarriors'':
** In the original ''WesternAnimation/RandomCartoons'' pilot, Chris Kirkman was voiced by Creator/CharlieSchlatter, Beth Tezuka was voiced by Creator/TaraStrong, Danny Vasquez was voiced by Creator/RobPaulsen and Wallow was voiced by Dan Finnerty. When Creator/FrederatorStudios chose to make the show a web series without Creator/{{Nickelodeon}}'s involvement, the characters were respectively recast with Alex Walsh, Creator/LilianaMumy, John Omohundro and Creator/IanJonesQuartey (though Tara Strong would remain involved as the voice of Plum).
** In the fourth season that was a co-production with Canadian animation company Creator/{{Nelvana}}, Graeme Jokic replaced Alex Walsh as Chris because it was required by Canadian law to have at least one Canadian voice actor in the main cast (though Alex Walsh stayed onboard as the voice of Beth's boyfriend Zack Ryan).
** The fourth season had Creator/EricBauza and Tara Strong respectively replace Breehn Burns as the voice of Chris' father Brian and Creator/VanessaMarshall as the voice of Chris' mother Josephine.
** Slippy Napkins was voiced by Polly Lou Livingston in the original ''Random! Cartoons'' pilot and the first three seasons, with Creator/FionaReid voicing her for season four.

* ''WebAnimation/{{Eddsworld}}'' has multiple examples with Matt and Ell being the only main characters [[RoleReprise with consistent voice actors]] (Matt Hargreaves and Vicky Gould respectively).
** The titular character Edd going from Edd Gould to Tim Hautekeit for the ''Legacy'' seasons. This is due to Gould [[DiedDuringProduction dying of leukemia]] in 2012. Hautkiet left the role after ''Legacy'' finished, and was recast with George Gould, [[RealLifeRelative the late Edd's brother]], in 2020.
** Tom and Tord were voiced by Alex L'Abbe in 2004 and 2005 before their namesakes, Thomas Ridgewell (otherwise known as Creator/TomSka) and Tord Larsson, took over. Larsson was Darrin'd by Jamie Spicer-Lewis when the character returned for the two-part SeriesFauxnale, as Larsson had stepped down from the series and dropped off the internet, and Ridgewell stepped down from voicing Tom after ''Legacy'' and was replaced with Ed Templer.
** Eduardo was voiced by [[WebVideo/OneyPlays Chris O'Neill]] in "Hammer and Fail" and Creator/BrockBaker in ''Legacy'', presumably due to strained relations between O'Neill and Ridgwell, who was showrunner at the time. Though in a weird twist, both of them alternate for the ''Beyond'' episodes.
** On the "Ellsworld" side of things, Tamara was voiced by Chloe Dungate for ''Legacy'' before being replaced by Rachel Kiki for ''Beyond'', while Matilda was voiced by Alice Ann Stacey before being replaced by Jennifer Bingham.
** There are also minor examples where characters are temporarily voiced by different actors either in shorts or single episodes. This includes Edd Gould voicing Tord several times, as well as vice versa in "Edd and Tord in Lost in Translation", Thomas Ridgwell voicing Matt in "Eddsworld Introduces tve Biomovies Competition", Edd Gould voicing Tom in "When the Best of the Worst Collide", and various pieces of media dubbing over the characters such as "Sugar, Sugar" and "Spartaargh"

* ''WebAnimation/{{ENA}}'':
** In “Auction Day”, ENA was first voiced by two actors: Marc Rafanan As Ena’s happy half, and Lizzie Freeman, as her sad half. But shortly after the episode’s release, Rafanan was accused of grooming, so he was recasted by Gabe Velez as he went on to voice her Happy Side for “Extinction Party”, and “Temptation Stairway”. But then he was accused of rape, so he was replaced by Creator/GriffinPuatu for “Power of Potluck”. Luckily, Lizzie Freeman kept her role as ENA’s sad side for the Season.
** In Season 2’s Upcoming Game, “Dream BBQ”, a new ENA will star the season, being voiced by Aleks Le as her salesperson half, and Nola Klop as her meanie half.

* ''WebAnimation/FiveNightsAtFreddysOldMemories'': As of "Divided Family", all of the characters are voiced by [=YouTube=] and internet personalities instead of [[SyntheticVoiceActor text-to-speech voices]] .

* In ''WebAnimation/TheGrosseryGang'' webseries, Australian voice actress Jade Ubrien originally voiced the main five characters. Once Series 2 rolled around for both the toyline and webseries, her roles were replaced and scattered around to various other voice actors: Nicolas Roye as Pizza Face, Laila Berzins as Sparkles and Doc Broc, Alexandra Ryan as Egghead, and Creator/SpikeSpencer as Rocky.

* ''WebAnimation/HelluvaBoss'':
** Stolas was in voiced by Creator/BrockBaker in the pilot. However, Baker would soon get [[RoleEndingMisdemeanor allegations of sexual misconduct]], which caused him to get replaced with Bryce Pinkham.
** Creator/EricaLindbeck voiced both Loona and Millie in the pilot but in the final show she only voices Loona. Millie is now voiced by Vivian Nixon.
** Striker is voiced by Creator/NormanReedus in season 1 and Edward Bosco in season 2.

* ''WebAnimation/HomestarRunner'':
** The whole concept is {{parodied|Trope}} in the ''WebAnimation/StrongBadEmail'' episode [[Recap/StrongBadEmailE177Original "original"]], in which an emailer [[ConversationalTroping brings up the trope to Strong Bad]], and he responds that "we do that to you people all the time". He says that there have been "like twelve King of Towns," and also claims the current Bubs is merely a replacement for Original Bubs. It's halfway between this and SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute, as Original Bubs seems to be a different character. In fact, his name literally ''is'' Original Bubs. Strong Bad elaborates that there was a series of "rotating Guest Bubs" in between, such as Crack Stunt-Bubs and Onion Bubs, before they finally settled on "a little-known Bubs with zero experience".
** Another parody comes up with the ''WebAnimation/CheatCommandos'' cartoon "On the Next Epi-Snowed" ends with producer A. Chimendez firing the voice actor Crack Stuntman, then [[AuthorAvatar inserting himself into the cartoon as Agent Chimendez]] to explain that [[PutOnABus Gunhaver was sent on a secret mission to the moon]], and when he comes back, his voice might be different. However, after the ''Pistols for Pandas'' PSA, Crack Stuntman gets his job back as Gunhaver's VA after all.
** While the above examples aren't real-life examples due to everyone being voiced by Matt Chapman, there is a non-parody example. Matt provides the voices for all the major male characters, but he can't do Strong Sad if he strains his voice too much. One such example is the Strong Bad Email "cheat talk" in which his brother Mike does Strong Sad's one line: "Douglas!"

* ''WebAnimation/LoboWebseries'':
** Creator/GregEagles was replaced by Creator/KevinMichaelRichardson as the voice of ComicBook/{{Lobo}} by the sixth episode.
** Creator/DeeBradleyBaker was replaced by Creator/TomKenny as the voice of Sunny Jim in the third episode.
* Several voice changes have occurred on ''WebAnimation/HappyTreeFriends'' as cast members left, most of the departures having come for various reasons in 2005:
** Ellen Connell replaced Dana Belben as [[CrossDressingVoices Cub]], Giggles and Petunia. After Connell's last role in "Wrath of Con", she was replaced by Lori Jee in all three roles. Although rumors had surfaced about Ellen dying in a horrible accident, Warren Graff confirmed she "moved to L.A., which is like death".
** Initially, Kenn Navarro voiced only Cuddles. After Mike Giambruno (who voiced [[ActingForTwo both Lifty and Shifty]]) left the show, Navarro took over those roles. Navarro also voiced Handy in "A Hole Lotta Love" because Warren Graff was not available.
** One episode even features both Navarro's and Giambruno's voices for Lifty and Shifty.
** Aubrey Ankrum (Pop and Flippy) left the show at some unknown point. His voice has been sampled for Pop and Flippy's evil side, although Navarro has taken over voicing the latter's good side.
** Francis Carr replaced Jeff Biancalana as Russell.
** David Winn replaced Rhode Montijo, who voiced Lumpy and Splendid.
* Parodied in ''WebComic/TheOrderOfTheStick'': when an episodic vampire dwarf appears on the airship the characters are travelling by, Vaarsivus' talking bird familiar wonders for a moment if that's vampire Durkon who has been recast.

* ObjectShows are very prone to switching out voice actors between episodes for reasons varying from them being unavailable or not interested in the Object Show Community anymore to behind-the-scenes drama. In most cases, this leads to characters [[VocalEvolution sounding radically different]] or even receiving [[UnexplainedAccent accents they previously didn't have]]. There's very few complains about these changes, however, as the OSC in general is far used to this by now.
* ''WebAnimation/BattleForDreamIsland'':
** In the first season, Needle and Ice Cube were voiced by Cary Huang, but as he got older, it became more difficult for him to voice his characters, so the Huang Twins had to [[FakeShemp use recycled lines for the two throughout the series.]] But then in BFDIA episode 5, Needle’s voice was given to an anonymous actor who voiced her until IDFB 1, while Ice Cube was temporarily voiced by [=MaximusPower2002=] in 5A. Then in the teaser “BFDI is Back”, Needle was voiced by Justthebomb. In their return in BFB, they were played by Satomi Hinatsu, with Needle only being voice for “Getting Teardrop to Talk”. But then they would settle on Kenzie Bryant taking on Needle’s role for the rest of the series, and later Ice Cube too.
** In BFDIA, Gelatin was first voiced by the former 11-year old Graham Taylor for the first 5 episodes, and he would reprise this role for BFB, up until episode 23. Graham would later retire from the role to pursuit his acting career. So he would be replaced by Ian Woodside starting at the age of 18. It was [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] by Gelatin a few times including a scene where he talks to Leafy and she replies in a different voice and later commenting on previous footage that he sounded weird in the past.
** And in ''WebAnimation/BattleForBFDI'', when the crew expanded, several recommended characters who were voiced by Michael and Cary in the past are voiced by new actors (An example being Basketball being voiced by Michael in the first season and by Satomi Hinatsu in BFB).
** ''WebAnimation/InanimateInsanity'': According to Adam Katz, a lot of voice actors just straight up dropped all contact with him, forcing him to either voice certain characters himself or get the voice actors he actually had on hand to voice them. The list include:
*** Pepper going through ''five'' voice actors over the series which is the most out of the cast.
*** Nate Groth (The original voice of Balloon) being replaced by Ben Cross due to a RoleEndingMisdemeanor.
*** Dee Cashin taking over the roles of Marshmallow and Cheesy from Adam Katz and Aaron Sharpio respectively since the former couldn't do the high-pitched voice for Marshmallow anymore and the latter left the show between seasons.
*** Paintbrush and Bow's voices were also replaced in episode 10 of ''WebAnimation/InanimateInsanityInvitational'' due to [[RoleEndingMisdemeanor drama]] that Paintbrush's original voice actor, Taylor Grodin, had gotten in-between this episode and the previous one. Although, because Bow in this season is a robotic copy, the creators were able to provide an InUniverse [[TheNthDoctor explanation]] for their voice change.

* ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'':
** From Volume 3 onwards, Lie Ren is voiced by Neath Oum, brother of the late Creator/MontyOum, taking his brother's role as the character.
** Due to J.J. Castillo leaving Rooster Teeth before the start of Volume 3, he was replaced as Mercury Black's VA by Creator/YuriLowenthal.
** Monty had been slated as the voice of Qrow Branwen, who debuted that same volume. The role went to Creator/VicMignogna after Monty died. In 2019, Vic was released from Rooster Teeth due to then-ongoing allegations of sexual misconduct, thus necessitating a new voice actor; Creator/JasonLiebrecht was eventually cast.
** Like Mignogna, Ryan Haywood, who voiced Professor Port, was forced to leave amid accusations of sexual misconduct. Anthony Sardinha took his place, though so far, this has been limited to ''WebAnimation/RWBYChibi'' and ''VideoGame/RWBYGrimmEclipse: Definitive Edition'' as Port hadn't appeared in the series proper since volume 4.
** As of Volume 9 due to Creator/JessieJamesGrelle severing ties with Rooster Teeth, the role for Tyrian Callows is now voiced by an unknown voice actor.
* The ''WebAnimation/RedVsBlue'' episode of ''Webanimation/DeathBattle'' marks the first time Creator/JoelHeyman, who had left Rooster Teeth early in the year, didn't voice Caboose - although Heyman would reveal that they did approach him, he only forgot to check his messages and thus was recast.

* ''WebAnimation/SpookyMonth'':
** Creator/ElsieLovelock replaces Creator/SrPelo as the role of the character Lila from Episode 2 onwards.
** Sr. Pelo also got Darrined by Creator/PMSeymour as Mr. Wonder starting from Episode 4 onwards.
** And he gave away role of Moloch to Grimmjack.
** Following controversy with Robert's original voice actors, [=JpegNetworks=] and Gabriel Velez, he is now going to be voiced by Corey Wilder.
** Streber would first be voiced by Gabriel Velez, but then after a controversy, his character would also be replaced by Corey Wilder.

* ''WebAnimation/Supermarioglitchy4sSuperMario64Bloopers'': Meggy Spletzer was voiced by Creator/LizzieFreeman from ''War of the Fat Italians 2020'' to ''The Cursed Tapes'', as well as [[WebAnimation/SunsetParadise her spin-off]], and was replaced by Creator/ElsieLovelock starting from ''DO NOT ENTER'' due to a mutual agreement with [=SMG4=] over her busy schedule.

* In ''[[WebAnimation/TacoMan Taco-Man: The Game Master]]'', Princess Polygon's voice actor changed from [[CrossDressingVoices Sam T. Nelson]] to Creator/KiraBuckland in the second episode. In the fifth episode, Taco-Man actually comments to Princess Polygon that her voice sounds much nicer compared to when they first met. She relapses into her original voice when she thanks him, then clears her throat and thanks him in her newer voice.

* ''WebAnimation/TheTransformersTitansReturn'' saw a number of voice actor changes after ''WebAnimation/TheTransformersCombinerWars'' was criticized for using mostly [=YouTube=] and internet personalities for the voice cast.
** Both Optimus Prime and Hot Rod saw this crossed with TheOriginalDarrin (as the ''Prime Wars Trilogy'' is set in a Generation One-based universe), going from [[WebVideo/HonestTrailers Jon Bailey]] and Creator/BenPronsky to Creator/PeterCullen and Creator/JuddNelson respectively.
** [[WebVideo/GameTheory Matthew Patrick]] replaces Ricky Hayberg as Computron.
** [[WebVideo/SeriouslyStrange Rob Dyke]] replaces Creator/PatrickSeitz as Devastator--despite Seitz still being in the show and [[WebAnimation/TheTransformersPowerOfThePrimes its sequel]] as the voice of Overlord.
** Creator/KariWahlgren replaces Creator/AnnaAkana as Victorion.
** Creator/NolanNorth replaced Michael Green as Metroplex.
