* The scene where O-Dog kills a liquor store clerk and his wife, combined with NightmareFuel.
* [[TraumaCongaLine Caine's entire life]]. He, at least at first, does not want to be a criminal, but his environment has groomed him into that lifestyle, and after having done everything possible to finally escape the ghetto, is ultimately killed.
** As a child, he constantly has to witness his mother's addiction to heroin, and his drug-dealing father casually murdering people.
** He is an accessory to O-Dog's senseless murder of the Korean store couple, and is visibly horrified by his friend's actions.
** His cousin Harold gets shot and killed right next to him right after a house party. He himself is shot by a stray which leaves him in critical condition for a while.
** O-Dog and A-Wax help him take revenge on Harold's murderers, which is his first kill. [[VengeanceFeelsEmpty He doesn't feel the satisfaction he thought he would]], and has night terrors about it.
** He gets arrested on a botched car robbery, and nearly goes down for the convenience store incident.
** He and Sharif [[PoliceBrutality get pulled over and brutalized by some cops]], then dumped into the territory of a Latino gang to be finished off. Thankfully, [[PetTheDog they just give the boys a ride to the hospital]].
** He visits Pernell in jail, and has a heartfelt conversation with him about Ronnie and Anthony. He actually sheds some tears, which is one of the few times we get to see a softer, more vulnerable side to Caine.
** He gets confronted by the cousin of Ilena, a girl he had a fling with, who learns she's pregnant shortly after and he completely shuts down the possibility of it being his child. After beating the man senseless, his grandfather catches him in the act and concludes that Caine is now too dangerous to stay in his house. He's on the brink of tears upon getting this news, and his grandmother sobs by the end of the confrontation.
** And, of course, we have arguably the most tragic event of Caine's life: his untimely death. He's just loading a van to move with Ronnie and Anthony to Atlanta, finally escaping the ghetto to pursue Ronnie's new job offer. O-Dog is upset, but he, Caine, and Sharif are having a good chuckle for the last time in the foreseeable future. Anthony is just playing on his tricycle, having the time of his life. Then we see Ilena's cousin pull up with his goons in a car, and they start shooting. They take out [[TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth Sharif]] - the guy who had nothing to do with anything - first, then start shooting at Caine, who selflessly runs over to Anthony to protect him. Sharif is dead, and Caine is barely clinging to life. He chokes on his own blood and gasps for breath, reminiscing on his entire life up to that point, and concluding that it's just what he deserves, as it was too late for him to redeem himself.
* [[FridgeHorror The idea of]] [[TheLostLenore Ronnie]], [[HarmfulToMinors Anthony]], and [[OutlivingOnesOffspring Mr. Butler]]'s reactions to Caine and Sharif's deaths, respectively. A MissingTrailerScene even shows Anthony bawling his eyes out, soaked in Caine's blood.
** Speaking of Anthony, the thought of him becoming exactly like Caine after all the trauma he's witnessed and his growing interest in the gangster lifestyle is both heartbreaking and [[FridgeHorror terrifying]].
