* The scene where [[spoiler:Jerome burns himself to death, and his silver medal turns gold]], and the key scenes where Vincent triumphs against the odds. It's a hugely bittersweet ending, combined with a few heartrending moments.
** What makes it worse is the scene before, where [[spoiler: Eugene/Jerome shows Vincent/Jerome all the genetic evidence he's been collecting.]] Vincent doesn't know why he did all this for him, and he doesn't know [[spoiler: that Eugene is planning to kill himself]], but he still thanks him.
--->'''Eugene''': I got the better end of the deal. I only lent you my body. You lent me your dream.
* We never know if Vincent and Anton ever reconcile [[spoiler:after his return to Earth]]. They never had a good relationship even when they were a family, and Vincent's actions in the film clearly make Anton very angry. We don't see the discussion or aftermath of the second swim. We only know that Anton relented. Vincent wins Eugene's respect, so much [[spoiler:so he commits suicide so Vincent can live on in his name]]. He wins Irene and her heart as well, Lamar as well, despite his 'invalid' status and everything he did. But Anton? If these people who are not blood will do the things they did for Vincent, maybe there is hope for Anton as well?
