* Once they find the exit from the underground mall, Personal Frame's occupational limit has been reached and her battery depletes. However, she has enough time to thank Seto for being her friend and saving her from a lonely death. Afterwards, Seto hugs her, tells her his name and then proceeds to bury her.
* In an interview with the director, producer, writer and designer Kawashima Kentarou he states that the glass cage project gave humans the ability to empathize without the use of words and they died when they used this power. So the survivors of the world are people who have never used this ability and thus, were truly alone in the world.

* The creepy Chicken Merchant's love for his dead child "princess"...Just the fact that he probably reached HeroicBSOD and deluded himself into becoming the silly, naive collector of junk long ago and never recovered.
* The fact that the world as it is because it was a misguided attempt to stop all the constant wars that was going on at the time and a lot of people agreed to the project in hope that it will allow them to truly communicate to someone how they truly they feel and make it easier to understand each other only for it to kill the majority of humanity. An attempt to make the world a better place lead to a horrible tragedy.
* In general, You may not cry, but you will feel the urge to; Seto keeps losing almost everyone he meets during the game, leading to many, ''many'', scenes like [[spoiler:Crow and PF's death, Sai and Shin leaving for the beyond]].
* The scene in the dam when Seto discovers a working radio is able to make contact with other survivors, thus [[HopeSpot leading him to finally begin feeling hope again]].
* The Memory Items have some pretty sad stories, even more so after TheReveal:
** The Torn Picture and Withered Plant combinations, where they tell the sides an ill girl (who's not named) and Botanist. From what we get, they liked each other but they never admitted their feelings to each other and, at one point, after a falling out, Mao leaves town to study, promising he'd see the girl again. Deep down, she knows he won't come back and, sure enough, he doesn't. By the time of the game, they've both died without ever seeing each other again. Oh, and, adding insult to injury, Mao's accomplishment, the lantern flower, is dead and withered and the Torn Picture pieces? The Girl's drawing.
** ''Mother's Shoe'' belonged to a mother who died in an earthquake trying to get back to her daughter. It's connected item, ''Toy'' has the daughter still waiting.
** ''Baby's Sock'' has message from a parent (mother?)to their soon-to-be born baby and how the baby would be born post-apocalypse.

** ''The Dog Collar'' has a memory from the dog's POV. From what's implied, the dog is old and doesn't know this, trying to cheer up its owner. They don't succeed and the dog starts to cry, too, but doesn't know why.
*** A later Memory Item, ''Worn Out Collar'' is equally sad, as the dog died waiting for his owner, like, "such a good boy".
** In the class photo memory, the speaker notes that he had a very good life filled with little hardship. However, as he nears death, the realization hits him that he has no one to share this life with. The last line really pummels this anguish in: "... I'm scared."
