!!The ''Series/{{Smallville}}'' fan-fiction
[[TheWoobie Chloe]] is a walking TearJerker for pretty much the whole series.

* As Kal is about to rape her:
-->“Clark, this has gone far enough,” she said, trying to control her shaking voice. “You can still stop. You can walk away, and we can pretend this never happened.”
-->“I told you,” he replied, his eyes cold. “My name is Kal.”
* After the crime is committed:
-->“Who are you?” she whispered.
----
-->"If I can’t trust my best friend not to hurt me, ''who'' can I trust?"
----
-->“Don’t touch me!” she screamed in fear, yanking her hand out of his and backing away from him. “Don’t you ever touch me again!”
----
-->All she wanted to do was drown out the [[DespairEventHorizon two words that Clark Kent had destroyed her life with.]]
-->''I did.''
-->“No,” she sobbed, her legs buckling under her. “No, no, no, no, no!”
-->And then she just collapsed in a heap and screamed. Screamed at the unfairness of sunshine and birdsong on a day in which her whole world had collapsed; pounded the earth with her fists in frustration because she could never again open her heart to anyone; sobbed in anguish because the person she’d loved and trusted most in the world had just admitted to raping her of his own free will.
-->She buried her face in her hands and wept, wept until she lost all sense of time.
----
-->“Of course this isn’t me!” she screamed, her voice reverberating off the rolling mountainside. “You think I don’t know that? I haven’t been ‘me’ since you raped me, Clark! You did this to me! You took away my life!”
----
-->“Care? Why should I care for you? How can you expect me to feel anything for you but hate and revulsion after you held me down, smothered my screams and forced---” she stopped and covered her mouth, trembling violently as the trauma of that horrible afternoon came back to haunt her in full force.
-->“I can’t do this,” she said brokenly, tears brimming in her eyes. “I can’t. This doesn’t end until one of us is dead. And since I can’t hurt you anymore…” Clark watched in horror as she slowly reached out and [[DrivenToSuicide picked up a sharp rock and held it to her wrist]].
-->He shook his head in complete disbelief. “No...Chloe...”
-->“This ends now,” she said hoarsely, and to Clark’s utter dismay and horror she dug the pointed edge deep into her flesh.

!!The TV Series
* Obviously, the kidnapping itself causes quite a lot of stress, in-universe, for the parents and teenagers in question.
* The Ambassador from Pakistan and his wife are clearly very conflicted over what they've been told to do to get their son back, [[spoiler:which is to kill the resident intelligence officer (as it turns out, he was only knocked out), grab his key card, and allow the American soldiers hidden behind a vault door to be removed by a SWAT team.]]
* [[spoiler:Just as Sharlene is released, she discovers her father died from a CIA sniper shot.]]
** [[spoiler: Which is made even more sad by the fact that she really wanted the kidnappers to demand a ransom from her parents so that she could go home. She may end up unnecessarily blaming herself for her father's death for the rest of her life.]]
* [[spoiler:Jakob Vries may be the boss of a South African mercenary company but it's hard not to empathize with his love for his children and his distaste for the way Gibson manipulates the parents by using their children against them. Especially that scene where he gets all of about a minute with his daughter before he's under arrest.]]
* [[spoiler:In order to get her son back, Xia Liao must unleash a cyberattack that cripples the United States infrastructure, even though the virus will almost certainly lead to a war with China. She initially goes through with it, but after seeing all the ensuing carnage, she goes and undoes the damage. And thus, she and her husband become the first Ballard parents to lose their kid...]]
* One of the death squad soldiers, Hawkins, [[spoiler:admits he feels nothing over strangling his father to death and quietly asks Dunn to "put a bullet in his head".]]
* In the series finale, [[spoiler:the death of the First Lady and her husband and son's reaction.]]
* [[spoiler:Despite everything he's done, Gibson's utterly [[VillainousBSOD shattered]] expression when Beth Ann turns on him can be hard to watch. In his own twisted way, he truly did love his daughter, and learning that she now hates him completely pushes him over the edge.]]
