* When Tiffany Aching is making the rounds with Granny Weatherwax and has to tell the truth to an elderly patient whose life savings, savings he'd meant to go towards a proper funeral for himself, she'd stolen while possessed by the hiver [[spoiler:and finds that his money has been replaced with gold by her friends, the Nac Mac Feegle]]. [[spoiler:Particularly, when the old man forgives her as if nothing ever happened and then asks for her help in preparing to propose to the widow down the street. He claims that there's too now far too much money to go buryin' a man with, but that it should do just fine for marrying him off. ]]
** The patient keeps talking about how his children won't have to pay for his funeral, even though Tiffany knows they've been dead for years, the implication being that he's a bit senile and can't remember that. When the above happens, he soberly mentions that he'd have liked to [[spoiler: invite them to the wedding,]] "but they're dead, you know." ''He always knew,'' but with nothing to look forward to, it was easier to pretend.
* When it turns out that [[spoiler:the hiver is scared rather than evil, and Tiffany talks to it and gives it a name right before showing it how to die.]]
** The Hiver itself, is a being that has spent aeons in stark terror of Reality in general, and [[spoiler: wants to die so it can stop being afraid.]]
* Miss Level's parsimonious description of her childhood as one person with two bodies. "They thought I was twins. Then they thought I was evil."
