* VideoGame/DukeNukem3D The Atomic Edition's [=E4M1=] theme, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCa_82wryCM Missing Impossible!]] is suspiciously similar to the ''Series/MissionImpossible'' [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWGeRgFa-hI theme song]]. And what's funny is that the song [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin is named after the series]]
** There's also [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw_tKdjI98Q "In Hiding"]], the [=E3M1=] theme, which sounds similar to the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiXioWKF5ig&feature=related closing credits music]] from ''Film/BladeRunner''.
*** Bobby Prince was involved in the soundtrack production of VideoGame/DukeNukem3D (See the VideoGame/{{Doom}} entry below) so it's not surprising at all that there's suspiciously similar songs there.
* The end theme to the original ''Resident Evil, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nu4Ohu811Vk "Still Dawn"]]'', is clearly inspired by the second half of ''[[http://youtu.be/Th3ycKQV_4k?t=3m9s Layla]]'' by [[Music/EricClapton Derek and the Dominoes]].
* When Capcom re-released ''VideoGame/{{Aladdin|Capcom}}'' for the GBA, their rights to "Friend Like Me" and "Whole New World" had expired, so they were forced to replace them with similar sounding new tunes. The Original SNES version did this from the start with a "One Jump Ahead" Substitute for the first level, and an "Arabian Nights" one for a cutscene.
** The NES pirate of ''VideoGame/AladdinVirginGames'' uses suspiciously similar songs to "A Whole New World" and "Prince Ali", among others.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sp0alNxwcis Chun Li's ending theme]] in [[VideoGame/StreetFighterII Super Street Fighter II]] is ''absurdly'' similar to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXUMB19WkT8 the main theme]] of Film/TheLastEmperor, writen by [[Music/TalkingHeads David Byrne]].
* The NES RPG game based on the hit movie ''Film/{{Willow}}'' has song similar to "Theme from A Summer Place" when you enter a certain town. So does ''VideoGame/MarioKart Super Circuit'' for GBA while driving on Shy Guy Beach.
* An Eye of the Tiger soundalike plays in ''VideoGame/BreathOfFireIII'' when Deis awakens. Followed by Falling Green sounding similar to Secret of the Forest from ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger'' and the Game Over theme and ''Chrono Trigger's'' Windy Scene during the first notes.
* In ''Videogame/ChronoTrigger'', Robo's theme matches up [[TitleDrop suspiciously well]] with Rick Astley's ''Never Gonna Give You Up''. [[WordOfGod The composer claims]] to have never heard Astley's song.
* The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilOYzbGwX7M&feature=related NES version]] of ''VideoGame/DejaVu'' plays a rendition of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXFaJpb-reg Alfie's theme]] by Sonny Rollins.
* For some reason, the first-level theme from ''GodHand'' sounds a great deal like the theme song from ''Hawaii Five-O'' (odd, considering this is a Western-themed level).
** Godhand also has a Suspiciously Similar Song to the MazingerZ theme song with new lyrics as its ending credits song.
*** Mazinger gets this treatment again in ''VideoGame/{{Xenosaga}} II'', fittingly enough as the {{Leitmotif}} for a pair of SuperRobot {{Otaku}}.
*** The Buriki Daioh theme from ''LiveALive'' also sounds suspiciously like the ''MazingerZ'' intro theme. That one gets around quite a bit, it seems. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKKshSa-qWA Compare]] and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9yqI9gL_Cw&feature=related contrast]]. The game even references the show's intro by opening up a lake for the giant robot to emerge.
* The lab theme from ''VideoGame/CaveStory'' sounds a lot like "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers, which is all but likely to be coincidental given the game was released mere months after the album "Hot Fuss".
* The title theme from ''VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountry 2'' sounds a lot like the theme from ''Film/{{Hook}}''. Other songs in this game that play this trope straight:
** The swamp level BGM [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsbV5mkNLsE "Bayou Boogie"]] sounds a lot like Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight", which inevitably led to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEjoz9egJDs&feature=more_related this.]]
** The ice cave level BGM, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYwx5A8Z1n0 "In a Snow-bound Land"]], is based on [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5w0Xy_6WIY0 "Theme of Antarctica" by Vangelis]].
** The Lakeside theme in the SNES version of Dixie's Double Trouble is 50% a remix of the theme to "Last of the Summer Wine."
** The Haunted Hall Music in Diddy's Kong Quest is inspired by Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain/
* In ''DiddyKongRacing'', TT's theme bears more than a passing resemblance to Kool and the Gang's hit song "Celebration".
** Then there's the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EU2dbx6GwKQ Secret Song]], which sounds like a screwed-up version of "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGHQ5iBJkzA Jib Jig]]" from ''VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountry 2''.
** The winter-themed tracks in the [[SlippySlideyIceWorld Snowflake Mountain]] hub courses borrow heavily from Christmas songs. Walrus Cove has pieces of "Here Comes Santa Claus" ("Bells are ringing, children singing...") and "Winter Wonderland" ("In the meadow we can build a snowman..."). Frosty Village has "Winter Wonderland" right off the bat.
** Not to mention Snowball Valley, which is a blatant ripoff of the Chicken Dance and actually copies the entire second part verbatim. Why on earth anyone would ''want'' to include [[EarWorm that awful song]] in any video game is a mystery.
*** There's a part of that song that sounds exactly like ''TheBradyBunch'' theme, of all things.
** The Spaceport Alpha theme from ''Diddy Kong Racing'' is suspiciously similar to the ''Series/{{Thunderbirds}}'' theme.
* ''Guitar Superstar'' is a plug-'n'-play ''GuitarHero'' [[ShoddyKnockoffProduct ripoff]] filled with Suspiciously Similar Songs. Just to give an idea, one of the songs is called "[[http://youtube.com/watch?v=tkF7vErum1w Granite Man]]", which is somewhat reminiscent of "Iron Man".
* The ''VisualNovel/LittleBusters!'' soundtrack features a track entitled "Mission Possible," which is pretty much as close as they could get to the ''MissionImpossible'' theme song without actually ''being'' said theme song.
* Parts of the ''VideoGame/{{Doom}}'' and ''Doom II'' soundtracks were suspiciously similar to metal songs, but executed in such a fashion that few people really noticed. See [[http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Doom_music these]] [[http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Doom_II_music pages]] for some comparisons.
** It should be noted that the games' composer used to be a lawyer, so he knew how much plagiarism they could get away with. The story goes that the lead designer essentially gave him a set of his favourite metal albums and asked the composer to make the ''Doom'' soundtrack sound like those.
** Coincidentally, the open-source project [[http://www.nongnu.org/freedoom/ Freedoom]] contains ''Suspiciously Simlar Songs to ''Doom'' music'', making it somewhat Meta.
** The music track for the ''Doom II'' level "Barrels o' Fun", entitled "Bye Bye American Pie" (no relation to ''that'' song, incidentally), is by far the most egregious example of this trope in the game. It is literally just a few minor variations away from being a note-for-note MIDI transcription of Alice In Chains' "Them Bones", minus the vocal melody, and about half as long. It's essentially a karaoke version. [[http://www.doomworld.com/music/d_ampie.mid Here, listen for yourself]].
** ''Doom's'' music for the second episode's second level, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HZEF6Ujsl0 "The Demons from Adrian's Pen"]], is suspiciously similar to ''[[VideoGame/{{Wolfenstein}} Wolfenstein 3-D's]] [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLtFJJxcjk4 "Into the Dungeon"]], from the secret levels of that game's second and fifth episodes. A case of SelfPlagiarism.
** Oddly enough, a number of the songs from Music/{{Pantera}}'s ''Vulgar Display of Power'' that didn't get lifted for ''Doom'' were reinterpreted on the ''Quake II'' soundtrack, though it wasn't Bobby Prince in that case.
** The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEECC3xoCVU Level One Theme]] from the first game seems to take influence, of all songs; [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8lHHSV6pDs&list=HL1400070760 Maria Magdalena]] by Sandra. It also has the similar guitar riff to "This is Doom" by Russian metal group Aria. In a bizarre twist, the instrumental version of said track was later used in the trucking sim Hard Truck 2.
* ''VideoGame/CosmosCosmicAdventure'' had a song that was "Tush" by ZZ Top to a tee. The folks at Apogee were pretty blatant about this one. How blatant? The filename in the game data is "MZZTOP.IMF".
* ''VideoGame/Wolfenstein3D'' had a song that was a mashup of Suspiciously Similar Songs to classic "war" tunes. Let's face it, Bobby Prince isn't known for his originality.
* The music for the first level of ''VideoGame/DukeNukemII'' ("He's Back") was pretty much a slightly reworked version of Music/{{Megadeth}}'s "Angry Again".
* Yet another Apogee example: In ''VideoGame/BlakeStone: Aliens of Gold'', the "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnQwSjRWpnA Mission Music #6]]" tune feels kind of like a similar mix between Music/LedZeppelin's "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBmueYJ0VhA Immigrant Song]]" and the ''Series/GetSmart'' [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tP-0dUXY2zs theme tune]]. It should come as no shock who did the music for this one.
* In a ''PowerRangers'' ''SNES'' game, the Player Select music is very similar to X Japan's "Sadistic Desire".
** The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXgF0DpRPaI Megazord fight with the Minotaur]] in ''Mighty Morphin Power Rangers'' for the Sega Genesis sounds very similar to DIO's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXqnHLXZugA I Speed At Night]].
* The second overworld music in ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros3'' heavily resembles the Music/TheBuggles' "Video Killed The Radio Star", especially the second half. This hook also appears as a RecurringRiff in the "Snowman's Land" music in ''Super Mario 64''.
** The Airship music in ''Super Mario Bros. 3'' is suspiciously similar to of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NeQ1h6lzLI Mars: The Bringer Of War]] from Holtz's ''"The Planets"'' suite. The similarities are even more obvious in the orchestrated version from ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy''. But then again, "Bringer of War" is a pretty appropriate theme for [[RemilitarizedZone those levels]].
** Also, the first overworld theme in ''Super Mario Bros. 3'' is basically a speeded-up interpretation of ''Sentimental Journey'' (especially the RingoStarr version).
** The music that plays when Mario/Luigi dies is basically the "E-I-E-I-O" portion of "Old MacDonald Had A Farm".
* The first part of the fortress theme (before it goes into the loop) in ''VideoGame/SuperMarioWorld'' sounds like Mussorgsky's ''Night on Bald Mountain'' mixed with the SMW main theme. The loop section is similar to the final boss theme from ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog''.
** Another ''VideoGame/SuperMarioWorld'' example would be the main theme, which sounds a lot like [[Franchise/AlvinAndTheChipmunks Dave Seville's]] "Witch Doctor." "Ooh eeh ooh ahh ahh bing bang walla walla bing bang ooh eeh ooh ahh ahh bing bang walla bing bang!"
** Invisible Forest from SMV uses a Suspiciously Similar Song to Mozart's 40th symphony.
** The "athletic" theme in ''Super Mario World'' borrows from [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_dI6BZt06U "Maple Leaf Rag" by Scott Joplin]].
* Weirdly, the NintendoDS game based on ''FutariWaPrettyCure Max Heart'' used Suspiciously Similar Songs to several themes from the anime (most noticeable is the Marble Screw music). What's weird about this is that they used the ''real'' version of the show's opening theme song. That, and the whole "same franchise as the original music" thing makes it smack of HomeVersionSoundtrackReplacement.
* Even weirder, the Marine and Sky Pop stages in ''SuperMarioLand'' used a knockoff of ''the original VideoGame/SuperMarioBros theme.''
** It happens again in ''SuperMario3DLand''. The first movement of the main theme sounds suspiciously similar to the ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBros1'' overworld music, while the second movement is all but identical to ''Super Mario Bros. 3''[='s=].
** Also, ''VideoGame/YoshisIsland'''s regular level theme is a rather blatant takeoff of The Emotions' "Best Of My Love". Furthermore, compare [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yip7qKWx9_s "Make Eggs, Throw Eggs"]] to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9U-5jxhSNDU "Loco In Acapulco" by The Four Tops]].
*** Compare that same song (14 seconds in) to the North American version of ''VideoGame/SonicCD'''s [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HYc7KEa1wA Palmtree Panic Present music]] (17 seconds in).
*** The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibSFwlG1EjQ world theme music]] of ''Yoshi's Island'' sounds pretty close to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILKEjenGCU8 "Anywhere Is" by Enya]].
*** Some ''Yoshi's Island'' levels also have a theme which is suspiciously similar to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QserQQwOw5A Francois De Roubaix's "Benedicte"]]
*** The series-standard athletic stages use a jazzy Benny Goodman-esque swing tune that's also quite reminiscent in places to "Mad About Me" from the ''[[Film/ANewHope New Hope]]'' soundtrack.
*** Probably the most bizarre example in the game is the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78ljfawOKLc intro theme]], which is suspiciously similar to, wait for it... [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5ZWzhhtlNE the Soviet Union national anthem]]!
** ''VideoGame/YoshisStory'''s castle theme is suspiciously similar to "The Sugar Plum Fairy".
** The opening and star-getting fanfare in ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy'' sound like they were ripped off TJHooker's theme tune.
** The Spin-Dig and Boulder Bowl Galaxies in ''Super Mario Galaxy 2'' start with a riff that is suspiciously similar to Michael Jackson's "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'"...
** Take a listen to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeR0E1HFHcI Challenge Glider]] from ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy2'', and try to say that it doesn't remind you of ''WesternAnimation/JonnyQuestTheRealAdventures''.
** Parts of the "Boomsday Machine" battle music sound very similar to the "Primal Dialga" battle music from ''[[VideoGame/PokemonMysteryDungeon Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky]]''.
** Also, the music for "Sky Station Galaxy", "Fluffy Bluff/Cloudy Court Galaxies", and "Bowser's Galaxy Generator" are actually Suspiciously Similar Songs to the music for "Good Egg Galaxy", "Gusty Garden Galaxy", and "Bowser's Galaxy Reactor" (especially the last two) from the first ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy'' game, respectively.
** [[BigBad Bowser's]] two themes from his boss battles in the first ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy'' game are actually Suspiciously Similar Songs to "Imperial March" and "Duel of the Fates" (especially their harmonies) from the ''Franchise/StarWars'' films, respectively (possibly because they match his [[GalacticConqueror desire to control the universe]]). His two themes from ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy2'' are actually Suspiciously Similar Songs to "Across the Stars" (possibly because of his obsession with Peach), also from ''Franchise/StarWars'' and ''Music/CarminaBurana'' (again especially its harmony), respectively.
** The [[HubLevel Comet Observatory]] theme apparantly sounds like a mix between the songs "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" and "Someday my Prince Will Come" from ''Disney/{{Cinderella}}'' and ''Disney/SnowWhiteAndTheSevenDwarfs'', respectively. Also, the Lumas' theme sounds an awful lot like the song "When You Wish Upon A Star" from ''Disney/{{Pinocchio}}''.
*** The music that plays when one first reaches the observatory reminds me of MarioKart for some reason.
*** Alternatively, Comet Observatory is an orchestrated version of the main theme from Clu Clu Land.
** The first six notes of the original ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros'' game is actually suspiciously similar to the MinskyPickup.
** Final Bowser's theme in ''SuperMario64'' sounds like a mix of the previous Bowsers' theme and Bach's ''Toccata and Fugue in D minor''.
*** Said previous theme has its first four notes come right out of [[Franchise/ANightmareOnElmStreet Freddy Krueger]]'s theme.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bq_jS6o3OoY Bowser's Super Mario 64 theme]] sounds similar to the Music/DeepPurple's famous riff from [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUwEIt9ez7M Smoke on the Water.]]
** Back to ''Galaxy 2'', the theme for [[{{Faceship}} Starship Mario]] is suspiciously similar to Christian Petzold's "Minuet in G Major."
** The Flipsville and Chompworks themes from ''Galaxy 2'' closely resemble "Funkytown", as well.
** The Fire Flower theme sounds an awful lot like 2 Unlimited's "Get Ready for This." And the Ice Flower's theme sounds an awful lot like... ...the Fire Flower theme.
** The map theme for World 1 of ''Galaxy 2'' sounds very similar to John Denver's "The Flower that Shattered the Stone", and World S's map theme sound a lot like Music/{{Coldplay}}'s "Viva La Vida."
** The ''MarioParty'' series, particularly games composed close to one another, are prone to having similar versions of each other. Compare, for example, ''Mario Party 1''[='s=] soundtrack with ''Mario Party 2''[='s=], or ''3''[='s=] with ''4''[='s=]. It's especially noticeable when ''Mario Party Advance'' [[RecycledSoundtrack re-uses mini-game themes from both 3 and 4.]]
*** The music track "Faster than All" from ''Mario Party 1'' sounds extremely similar to the tune used for Epona-based events in ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime'' and ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask''. "The Blue Skies Yonder" from ''2'' was then a sound-alike of a sound-alike.
* ''VideoGame/SpyHunter'' of course used the ''PeterGunn'' theme for its main music, and supposedly this was licensed. Ironically, ''Super Spy Hunter'', which was not originally titled as a sequel, instead being named ''Battle Formula'' in Japan, used a Suspiciously Similar Song to Peter Gunn music in its second stage.
** In another ironic twist, the ''Spy Hunter'' game also provides an aversion of this trope. The makers of the game originally wanted to use the ''Film/JamesBond'' theme song, but couldn't obtain the rights to it. Instead of using a Suspiciously Similar Song to it, they went with the Peter Gunn theme.
** The "Percussion" song from ''VideoGame/StreetsOfRage 3'' has a very similar feel to the show theme as well.
* The original arcade version of ''VideoGame/RainbowIslands'' uses an upbeat remix of "Over The Rainbow" (yes, the song from ''Film/TheWizardOfOz''!) as its background music. Needless to say, there were some issues with licensing the music when the game was released on home systems. Many home computer ports of the game got away with using the original tune, but the North American NES and Master System releases use a very noticeable Suspiciously Similar Song; the European NES release uses an entirely different tune altogether. Later re-releases, including the PC re-release, go with the American NES song.
** The arcade port found on Taito Legends is an aversion. It uses the same theme, but with the offending melody simply muted.
** Also, ''Parasol Stars'', the sequel to Rainbow Islands, uses a Suspiciously Similar Song to the '''Lambada''' as the boss battle music!
* In a possibly unintentional case, the music in Tourian in the original ''[[VideoGame/{{Metroid1}} Metroid]]'' resembles the music from Bowser's Castle in the original ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros'', especially the opening notes of the bassline. The resemblance is further notable in that Tourian is roughly the Metroid equivalent of Bowser's Castle, since the final boss confrontation takes place there.
** The Tourian theme is also extremely similar to a section of the movement "Gnomus" in Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.
** The theme used for the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GV2RcSp-VEA Hall of the Elders in Metroid Prime]] and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEf66ZQkKec Chozo Statues in Zero Mission]] is also remarkably similar to the ancient Greek [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWyXPpf7Vjo song of Seikilos]].
* Seeing as ''Legend of Mana'' and ''VideoGame/SuperMarioRPG'' share a music composer (Yoko Shimomura), it only figures that the former would include some versions of songs from the latter. For example:
** "Mystic City Geo" is suspciously similar to the Mushroom Kingdom theme.
** The Toad Town theme from ''[[VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiBowsersInsideStory Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story]]'', which Shimomura also composed, is in turn suspiciously similar to Mystic City Geo (with multiple pastiches of the first nine notes of the [[SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic infamous]] "Beware the Forest's Mushrooms" from ''Super Mario RPG'' thrown in for good measure), to bring this full-circle.
** "Pastoral" uses the same measurement and beat as the Marrymore theme.
** The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bP5eQsDSII#t=5m22s credits sequence]] is clearly inspired by Disneyland's Electrical Parade; naturally, the background music is suspiciously similar to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ax00vnsZPKE "Baroque Hoedown"]], the theme music from that parade.
** Gritzy Desert from Partners in Time sounds a lot like Agrabah's theme(s) in ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'' (especially the [[VideoGame/SuperSmashBros Brawl version]]). Again, Shimomura was the composer for both songs, so it's not surprising.
** The battle theme that Shimomura did for [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsMCQE7GKUA Superstar Saga]] has a remarkably similar structure to the one she did for ''[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8dWYAqonus Mario RPG]]''. The RecurringRiff that appears in the title screen and battle themes in ''Dream Team'' also bear a similar cadence to the main riff of the song.
** Fawful's Castle Garden in ''Bowser's Inside Story'' sounds strangely similar to Ganon's theme.
** Another example of the same composer. The Teehee Valley area theme from [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szHYmae1rMI Superstar Saga]] sounds quite similar to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=605PgeY9HX0 Sancho de los Panchos]] from ''LiveALive'', another game which had music composed by her.
** The background music for Mount Pajamaja in ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiDreamTeam'' bears similarities to the music used on Mt. Koltz and Mt. Zozo in ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI''.
* The ''VideoGame/NinjaGaiden'' arcade game feature a recurring pair of sub-bosses who are obvious [[LawyerFriendlyCameo pastiches]] of the legendary [[ProfessionalWrestling wrestling tag team]] known as the Road Warriors. Their background theme ("I Am Man") was such an obvious ripoff of Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" (the entrance theme of the Road Warriors), that when Tecmo released the game on the Virtual Console, they had to remove the tune to avoid copyright infringement.
* In ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger'', "Jolly Ol' Spekkio", the theme of the shapeshifter of the same name found at the End of Time, sounds a heck of a lot like "I Just Can't Wait to be King" from ''Disney/TheLionKing''.
** Also, there's Ayla's Theme ([[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy-u0Dq32sg here]]) and "It's Not Unusual" by Tom Jones ([[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOArsNMVqGg here]]).
** Try listening to the music in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abJFeLmbUf4 this]] video and deny that it sounds like a sped up version of the MMPR theme.
** Here's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOWf_T0jdgQ Robo's theme]]. Does it sound... [[RickAstley familiar]] to anyone? Despite the similarity, it was the first time [[http://www.originalsoundversion.com/yasunori-mitsuda-finally-gets-rick-rolled/ Yasunori Mitsuda heard of the American singer]].
** The music that plays during the trial early in the game is very similar to a song in Music/TheWall called, fittingly, The Trial.
** The unused song "Singing Mountain" sound a lot like "Carrying You", the theme for "Laputa: Castle in the Sky"
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESqZb7hY1S0 Corridors of Time]] is lifted nearly note-for-note from [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCR85u9QngQ Sirius]] by The Alan Parsons Project (NBA fans know it as the Chicago Bulls' entrance theme).
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cZeMdFWpEI Magus' theme]] seems to borrow a bit from [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOVxNppbvBc Journey From Mariabronn]] by Kansas(starting around the 4:55 mark)
* The Spider-Man/Venom [[BeatEmUp beat-'em-up]] ''Maximum Carnage'' for the SNES and Genesis was advertised as featuring a soundtrack composed by Green Jelly (later Green Jello) - who came up with an original title tune and Suspiciously Similar Songs to metal classics for the rest of the game. Most notable as well as fitting was [[http://youtube.com/watch?v=umxPSmWLRlg Black Sabbath's "The Mob Rules"]] for boss fights.
* The soundtrack to ''ForzaMotorsport 1'' features instrumentals to Black Sabbath's "Iron Man", ZZ Top's "La Grange" and a redone version of Edgar Winter Group's "Frankenstein", as arranged by renowned musician Junkie XL.
* In ''Daryl Gates' Police Quest: Open Season'', a Suspiciously Similar Song to "Can't Turn You Lose" by the BluesBrothers can sometimes be heard in Ragin' Records at Hollywood & Vine.
** The protagonist's headquarters being Parker Center, it also featured a near note-for-note ripoff of the ''Dragnet'' theme, another variation of which was used as the theme for ''PoliceQuest I''.
** In ''VideoGame/QuestForGloryIII'', the music playing in the background at the Apothecary's store is a somewhat mediterranean Suspiciously Similar Song to Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit". Very suitable, given the Apothecary's profession (sells drugs...) and hippie-like demeanor.
* In ''VideoGame/LeisureSuitLarry 5'', "K Rap Talk" is suspiciously similar to Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me With Science". Some versions, however, use a completely different song in place of it.
** The third Hard Disk Cafe song has a bassline similar to [=WAR=]'s "Low Rider".
** And the series theme sounds similar to "When I'm 64" by Music/TheBeatles.
** "K Rap Rap" is reminiscent of PeterGabriel's "Sledgehammer".
** The music during the Taj Mahal DreamSequence somewhat resembles Van Halen's "Jump".
** "K-Rap Rock" sounds somewhat like "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love".
* Tails' theme in ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure'' is suspiciously similar to the Bridge Zone theme from the 8-bit version ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog'', which itself is suspiciously similar to the theme from ''FullHouse''.
** The theme in question is also quite similar to Janet Jackson's [[http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2apgm_janet-jackson-together-again_music Together Again]].
** The day music for Mazuri in ''VideoGame/SonicUnleashed'' is essentially a remix of the credits music from the 8-bit ''Sonic 1'', without the Green Hill rendition in the middle.
** ''VideoGame/{{Sonic 3|AndKnuckles}}'' used to have Music/MichaelJackson composing its score, and most of the zone themes can still be traced into being Suspiciously Similar Songs to MJ songs. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbVM-l2Oku4 Short documentary on the subject]].
** In Carnival Night Zone, the beat from Michael Jackson's "Jam" is used, along with the trumpet riff and stock glass-breaking sound, and the melody is based on [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_B0CyOAO8y0 "Entry of the Gladiators"]], a famous orchestral circus piece that everyone has heard at least once.
** The Hydrocity zone music is reminiscent of the Mike Mareen song "Heavy Water".
** The Ice Cap Zone theme has a bassline similar to "Smooth Criminal", and a melody derived from "Who Is It".
*** The song actually plays more like a 16-bit instrumental version of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2OWC5Hosv8 "Hard Times"]] by The Jetzons, a band for which composer Brad Buxer was the keyboardist.
** The ending theme is the basis of "Stranger in Moscow".
** The Launch Base Zone music uses elements of "Bad", as well as a bass hook similar to Nu Shooz's "I Can't Wait".
*** The bass line in the beginning portion of the song, which gets re-used throughout, is very similar to the bass line from the song "Soaring Mosaic" by John Kaizan Neptune.
** The Marble Garden theme and "Thriller" are quite similar.
** Metropolis Zone somewhat resembles Van Halen's "Jump" and the Pointer Sisters' "Jump(For My Love)".
** The 16-bit ''Sonic 1'''s Star Light Zone music is based on the J-pop song Kusuriyubi no Kesshin by Dreams Come True. In fact, the soundtrack was composed by Masato Nakamura, a member of that band.
*** For the same reason, the music from the ending cutscene of Sonic 2 is essentially a 16-bit version of their song "Sweet Sweet Sweet".
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXukwNQG0uA The Marble Zone]] sounds an awful lot like Andy Williams's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2BscyYsXBo "Music to Watch Girls By"]]
** Parts of the Star Light Zone music sounds similar to Madonna's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHDbv7ZPCE0 Borderline]]. In particular the part at 00:17.
** Scrap Brain Zone is suspiciously similar to the ''Film/BladeRunner'' ending theme(twice as fast) complete with the drum hits. The latter half also sounds like Music/{{Kraftwerk}}'s "Spacelab", and the bassline resembles that of another KW song, "Metropolis" (not Metropolis Zone).
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDd_GlynA6A Spring Yard Zone]] is pretty obviously inspired by Bobby Brown's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0FKzPfsxA4 Every Little Step]].
** Oingo Boingo's "Weird Science" sounds like a precursor to Sonic music, particularly the Flying Battery Zone.
** "Town Mission 4" from ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006'' bares some similarities to Flash Man's stage music in ''VideoGame/MegaMan2'', which was noted by Pokecapn and company in [[LetsPlay/SonicTheHedgehog2006 their Let's Play of the PS3 version]].
*** Flash Man's stage music itself was similar to of Metallica's "Seek and Destroy".
*** The similar-sounding riffs in both songs also sound like a half-tempo version of a part of Guts Man's theme from the original ''VideoGame/MegaMan1''.
*** The boss theme on Sonic 2(game gear version) sounds almost EXACTLY like "Cubik" by 808State
*** Those also resemble the beginning of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khbKbzllFiE Area 8]] from ''VideoGame/BionicCommando''.
** "Crisis City 1" from ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006'' contains elements of the BattleThemeMusic from ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger'' as well as a possible reference to the ''MissionImpossible'' ThemeTune. You can also hear a bit of Koopa's Road from ''VideoGame/SuperMario64''.
*** Bowser's Road also sounds like a slower, more dramatic version of the VideoGame/SuperSmashBros Melee menu theme.
** Also from ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006'', Silver's theme song, "Dreams of an Absolution" is very similar to Stardust's "Music Sounds Better With You". It also contains a melody similar to Green Hill Zone's theme.
** Parts of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzorhmaOstI Red Hot Skull]] from ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure'' sound very much like Supercat's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8QaS5BR5Js Ghetto Red Hot]], although it may simply be based on the same {{sampl|ing}}es.
** In ''SonicTripleTrouble'', the BGM track for [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dot0iGpUL5I Sunset Park Zone Act 3]] is highly reminiscent of Ozzy's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOg_qF9GQUM Crazy Train]]. You'll never guess what features prominently in the act...
** The music to the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpqNffL9ec4 Neo Green Hill Zone]] board in ''VideoGame/SonicPinballParty'' is a messed-up version of the tune to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zUGXqD1pm0 Neo Green Hill Zone Act 2]] in ''{{Sonic Advance|Series}}''. This is especially bizarre considering that the game's other boards (also based off of ''Advance'' levels) take the music verbatim from their models.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7xJhouZMr4 You will never look at Sonic & Knuckless miniboss music the same way again.]]
** The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B93QQvL0CGQ Act 2 boss]] theme from ''VideoGame/Sonic3AndKnuckles'' resembles the first half of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omnzHpVh1Kc Stage 7's music]] from ''{{Raiden}} II''.
** Take a listen to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OHL_PAOkT4 "Back-2-Back"]], the theme for Water Palace from ''VideoGame/{{Sonic Rush|Series}}''. Now, if it hasn't sprung to mind already, take a listen to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxGtunwPIe0 "Start the Commotion"]] by The Wiseguys. The similar repeated use of the guitar hook sample is just the tip of the iceberg. It's like Hideki Naganuma composed a ''tribute'' as a BGM!
*** It more resembles [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Vae_AkLb4Q "Louie Louie"]] by The Kingsmen.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uhh8K2wJC1E Azure Blue World]], the theme to Emerald Coast from Sonic Adventure sounds incredibly similar to T-Square's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7zB3OpR8sw Omens of Love]].
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xF2KhTYb9VA Tropical Resort Act 1]] from ''VideoGame/SonicColors'' sounds an awful lot like The Olympics' [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjqOkxFu9_Y "I'll Do a Little Bit More"]].
* The ending theme for the Revenge of Meta Knight subgame in ''VideoGame/KirbySuperStar'' (and ''[[VideoGameRemake Ultra]]'') sounds suspiciously similar to The Animals' rendition of "House of the Rising Sun".
** And the Game Over screen sounds quite similar to the chorus of Queen's "You're My Best Friend".
* "Katamari On The Funk", the title song from the PSP-exclusive ''KatamariDamacy'' sequel ''Me and My Katamari'' and one of the few original songs in the game, bears a striking resemblance to a tune from the PSP version of Ridge Racer that the same person had composed.
* ''VideoGame/{{Rayman 2}}: The Great Escape'' has the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEABV-3j8oQ Bayou level background music]], which sounds very similiar to the Music/PinkFloyd song [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLKiMbC6s2k "Shine on you Crazy Diamond"]] in many parts. Interestingly, the big 4 repeating guitar notes are played in the exact way!
* ''VideoGame/GuiltyGear'' has several examples of this: Potemkin's theme, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBu7WCxzDP8 Burly Heart]] is basically [[http://youtube.com/watch?v=tTaOvzZKRxA Led Zepplin's "Kashmir"]] shifted down an octave or two, and Venom's theme [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5vNxUf27YM A Solitude That Asks Nothing in Return]] is [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pt3IkSP3X78 Napalm Death's "Breed To Breathe"]] slowed down slightly with added keyboard.
** Ky's new theme, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sFYmXW4Abo Magnolia Eclair]] has its opening riffs lifted almost directly from Music/JudasPriest's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04MmA-nCfQs Electric Eye.]]
* In ''VideoGame/MegaMan1'', the music in Elec Man's stage is pretty similar to "All the Right Friends" by REM.
** It also somewhat resembles "Faithfully" by Journey, which was written not long before the REM song. "Faithfully" may be the more likely source, as "All The Right Friends" was a very obscure R.E.M. song at the time and had yet to appear on any official releases.
*** The chorus of the Eurobeat song "Back to 80's" by Mega NRG Man and Domino also sounds like those.
*** As does Sky Sanctuary from ''Sonic & Knuckles''.
** The music in the first part of Dr. Cossack's castle in ''4'' resembles the Russian folk song "Katusha".
** Hard Man's theme from ''VideoGame/MegaMan3'' sounds a lot like Depeche Mode's People are People.
*** Cossack Castle's second theme sounds a lot like''VideoGame/BionicCommando'''s BootstrappedTheme (Area 1). In turn, it the second Skull Castle theme in the same game is in turn a Suspiciously Similar Song.
*** [[ButWaitTheresMore Then]], ''5'''s Skull Castle theme was suspiciously similar to ''that'' version.
** Slash Man's theme is reminiscent of "Magical Sound Shower" from ''OutRun'', as well as Quick Man's theme from [=MM2=] and Wave Man's theme from [=MM5=].
*** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nd2O6mbhCLU Wave Man's music]] itself resembles MichaelJackson's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yURRmWtbTbo "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough"]] in parts.
** A riff from Cut Man's theme from the original sounds very similar to the character select screen music from ''X-Men: Children of the Atom''.
** The infamous Dr. Wily Castle - Stage 1 theme from ''Mega Man 2'' opens with nine notes that are remarkably similar to Music/MichaelJackson's 'Beat It.' This same string of notes would go on to show up in ''VideoGame/{{Mother 3}}'' in the music that plays during the 'Natural Killer Cyborg' fight.
*** Strangely, it also bears a very close resemblance to Elton John's "I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That", which only came out a few months before Mega Man 2 was released.
*** Also in ''VideoGame/MegaMan2'', Crash Man's theme resembles "Love Roller Coaster" by The Ohio Players.
** The Intro Stage Underground music in ''VideoGame/MegaMan8'' is reminiscent of the ''SuperMarioBros'' underworld music.
*** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egyYnWM9yQ8 Search Man's theme]] resembles the below-mentioned Underground Resistance "Jupiter Jazz" song.
** Also in ''3'', [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpVIM8de2xw Snake Man]]'s theme sounds alot like the forementioned Stage 4 theme from ''JourneyToSilius'', although it was released just a month after that game.
** Some of the BGM's in ''VideoGame/MegaMan9'' are suspiciously similar to songs from older games, for example, Concrete Man's theme is similar to [[VideoGame/MegaMan2 Wood Man]]'s theme, and Plug Man's theme has elements of [[VideoGame/MegaMan6 Knight Man]]'s theme.
* The Stage 5 theme from ''Blaster Master'' is suspiciously similar to Bomb Man's theme from ''VideoGame/MegaMan1'', and one of the guys at Overclocked Remix did [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeWhIatbXWM a mash-up remix]] of the two.
** The Stage 3 music sounds rather similar to "Stay With Me Forever" from ''{{Ys}} II'', although the two games came out in Japan the same year, so it might be coincidence.
** Same company example: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCu4hHKbUBg Stage 7]] of ''VideoGame/BlasterMaster'' and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUSNNFyCujs Stage 4]] of ''JourneyToSilius''. Also similar to the former is "Crazy Call at Cry"(Port Town) from ''VideoGame/FZero X''.
** In turn, the Bomb Man music is similar to the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21yhUi1prw8 Stage 4]] music from the original ''{{Gradius}}''.
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oi2G-9EccU The hidden Hell Level from Ganbare Goemon 2]] on the Super Famicom. It's a vague soundalike of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9boVDep-diw Gegege no Kitarou's ever-so-iconic opening theme]].
* One scene in ''Anime/{{Hamtaro}}: Ham-Ham Heartbreak'' involves finding a spoon (which later gets used in a catapult). The scene wherein you remove the spoon from its pedestal is [[ShoutOut a direct send-up]] of the "removing the Master Sword from its pedestal" scene from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkToThePast'', and the music that plays during the removal is suspiciously similar to the "opening a large chest" music from the 3D incarnations of ''Zelda'' - where the original arpeggios go up, these arpeggios go down.
** Not only that, but pay attention to the tune that plays when [[BigBad Spat]] appears. Ring any bells? Well, let's just say it's one of the reasons a reviewer said Spat was practically Hamster [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI Kefka]].
* In ''VideoGame/MegaManX3'', the music in Neon Tiger's stage bears a remarkable similarity to "My Michelle" by Music/GunsNRoses. (But the ''MMX'' designers are probably GNR fans, considering [[ThemeNaming the bosses of X5 are named after the band members]], and the latter installments have a character named Axl).
** Although said bosses originally had SomethingPerson-esque names in the original Japanese version (and were left untouched in the US version's manual for some reason)...
** ''VideoGame/MegaManX5'' had a couple itself. The opening theme borrows from both the first VideoGame/MegaManX1 game (the dramatic piece when Zero dies) and from ''Mega Man 3'' (the "get power" theme [[AwesomeMusic/MegaMan which was quite awesome]]). The Shadow Devil music is a homage to the Yellow Devil music from the original Mega Man, and Lamdabamda's music is from the first X game. And the Duff [=McWhalen=]/Tidal Whale stage song...well, just [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdBsmlGT0so compare it]] to X2's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lg2Lc3v7_D0 Bubble Crab stage song]].
** From the first: compare [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja5QUTlgZ3Y Armored Armadillo's theme]] to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6q9nBusrq8 "That Smell" by Lynyrd Skynyrd]]. There's no way that's ''not'' intentional.
** The intro stage theme sounds somewhat like "From Out of Nowhere" by Faith No More.
** Also in the first ''Mega Man X'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GgPjOKvc6g the theme]] for the third stage of Sigma's fortress sounds like the ''PeterGunn'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GgPjOKvc6g theme]].
** In ''VideoGame/MegaManX6'', Infinity Mijinion's stage theme contains synthesizer riffs reminiscent of the song "The Final Countdown".
* In ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime'', the music in the Fire Temple bears a remarkable resemblance to the Torla Mountan dungeon in ''Alundra'', right down to the [[OminousLatinChanting Muslim-esque chanting]].
** Even weirder, "Saria's Song", the iconic theme music for TheLostWoods from the same game and ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTwilightPrincess Twilight Princess]]'' is suspiciously similar to the Jupiter suite from Gustav Holst's ''The Planets.''
** Additionally, ''Twilight Princess'' features a hidden area in the form of a town that's been abandoned for years, composed of one main street lined with buildings... with dust and tumbleweeds everywhere... and the buildings full of enemies launching arrows at you, necessitating a big bow-and-arrow shootout through the town. The music for this set-piece did a wonderful job of capturing the feel of Music/EnnioMorricone's spaghetti Western scores.
** For that matter, the Kakariko Village theme from [=ALttP=] bears resemblance to the second movement of ''Pathetique'' by Ludwig van Beethoven.
** The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1EYMdLBLJE Music Box House]] theme from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask'' sounds a lot like the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWlPKQ_QdsY Merry-Go-Round]] theme from ''VideoGame/SuperMario64''. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlQMQaBzazI Here's a mashup.]]
** Noticed a resemblance between the original game's Underworld music and the ''Franchise/{{Halloween}}'' theme?
** The refrain of ''A Link to the Past'''s ending theme sounds very similar to "La Marseillaise", the French national anthem. It also bears close resemblance to the ''FinalFantasy'' theme.
** The first eight notes of Chancellor Cole's {{leitmotif}} in ''SpiritTracks'' are a blatant steal from Mordack's theme in ''VideoGame/KingsQuestVAbsenceMakesTheHeartGoYonder'' - the first note was duplicated, but the two are basically identical otherwise.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAkTBsTbJac&feature=BF&list=PLAFCC2B8788DA6125&index=23 Goodbye, Leon]] from ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil2'' and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4YwTVEKuog Last End]] from ''Majora's Mask''. Both are major [[TearJerker tear-jerkers]] too.
*** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQ_BQX88g0k Majora's Theme]] sounds like [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8S15l2_uk0 IVY's Domain]] from ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil''.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=621Kte_is6w&feature=related Dark Mountain]] from ''LTTP'' is suspiciously similar to the Imperial March from ''Film/TheEmpireStrikesBack''.
*** The main Dark World theme is similar to the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iO-y2NVLcHg iceworld/desert theme]] from ''VideoGame/WonderBoyIIIMonsterLair''.
** The ''Ocarina of Time'' [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tf7gu6hKkc title theme]], and Zelda's Theme from ''ALTTP'' and ''OOT'' are suspiciously similar to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-Xm7s9eGxU "Gymnopedie No. 1"]] by Erik Satie.
** The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0bKZ9yV7B8 Twilight theme]] from ''Twilight Princess'' is this to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYb9kSCkjE8 Giygas's theme]] from ''Videogame/EarthBound''.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-lw14ldWpo Ganondorf's battle theme]] in ''OOT'' sounds rather similar to the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhcwGXyHNg4 boss theme]] in ''Battle Formula/Super SpyHunter''.
** The famous Fairy Fountain music is similar to the World 3 map theme from [[SelfPlagiarism Nintendo's own]] ''Videogame/SuperMarioBros3'', which itself resembles JanisIan's "At Seventeen".
** The Skyloft theme in ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSkywardSword'' is very similar to that of the World 7 map of ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBrosWii''.
* ''VideoGame/EarthBound'' had a bunch of musical references. So much so that it's commonly believed that the legal issues surrounding them is one of the many obstacles to the game getting rereleased.
** The riff used by the Runaway Five in the tune before you get on their bus (and reused in the ending credits) is more or less "In the Midnight Hour".
** The "hippie battle" theme is based off Chuck Berry's musical style, namely "Johnny B. Goode".
*** ''[[VideoGame/FinalFantasyMysticQuest Mystic Quest]]'' also has this when you listen to the band in Fireburg and not to mention the title screen in ''City Connection''.
** The drug store music is a note-for-note take on ''Dallas Rag'', by the Dallas String Band.
** The music for the coffee-trip scrolling text sequences is slightly similar to "Learning To Fly".
** The music outside the boarding house sounds awfully like "You Never Give Me Your Money".
** [[http://earthboundcentral.com/2009/02/earthbound-legal-issues/ There's more...]]
* ''VideoGame/DragonBallZBudokai'' had a few pieces of background music which were suspiciously similar to Stratovarius music, as seen [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCoiG7unOvY here.]]
* Many of the dancers you encounter in ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyIV'' do their routine to a short song that directly resembles the first section of Aram Khachaturian's ''Sabre Dance''.
** The opening song to ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyIX'' sounds like '[[Music/LedZeppelin Stairway to Heaven]]'.
*** [[NobuoUematsu Uematsu]] has said Led Zeppelin is one of his favourite bands.
** Compare [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUp2aBnTICM this song]] from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI'' to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXDGgk3IiQY this one]] from Glenn Gould.
** Another from VI: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QazWtO7wZg Locke's Theme]] and the theme of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zSw2V_vW0Y Back to the Future]]
** One that falls between this and orchestration: Terra's Theme from Final Fantasy VI and Alkan's La Chanson De La Folle Au Bord De La Mer which dates to 1847. The beginning of Alkan's piece is very close to that theme apart from it being slower and for piano. In fact this trope could also be called the Final Fantasy version because it is not uncommon for Uematsu to do this. For that matter, Golden Saucer is clearly inspired by BMV 655.
** The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3y6R4Luysnk title theme]] from Final Fantasy VI sounds like "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLuW-GBaJ8k Thus Spake Zarathustra]]" played on an organ.
** And the first few bars of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSIkHrjPWTc Shadow's theme]] from VI sound a lot like [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWet2qgieVc the opening theme to]] ''TheVirginian''.
*** Of course, Shadow's theme also sounds very similar to the theme from ''Film/TheGoodTheBadAndTheUgly''.
** "Johnny C. Bad" is named after Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" but is more thematically similar to "Rock This Town" by the Stray Cats.
** The intro to Celes's theme (before it transitions into a reprise of "Aria de Mezzo Carattere") bears no small resemblance to the file select/fairy fountain theme from ''Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda'' series.
** Then there's the Slam Shuffle, or Nobuo Uematsu's take on ''ThePinkPanther'' theme.
** The refrain of the Red Wings theme in FF4 sounds like part of the ending credits theme to the Star Wars films.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZOyST9KGZQ The Vile Peaks music]] from VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII sounds like a more upbeat version of Yuki Kajiura's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4u0qn-6QcAw Les Soldats]], complete with very similar ominous chanting.
** [[DarthVaderClone Fittingly]], [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkx3KcO7TCs Golbez's theme]] sounds like [[Franchise/StarWars the Imperial March]] fed through a classical orchestra.
** Compare [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCGmQ_adlvA Kuja's Theme]] from ''FFIX'' to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tJYN-eG1zk "We Will Rock You"]] by Music/{{Queen}}. One of the more obvious ones.
** The first part (before the choir comes in) of One-Winged Angel from FinalFantasyVII sounds a lot like the music from the shower scene in Film/{{Psycho}}.
** The "Prelude" is predated by an obscure electronic song, Francis Rimbert's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73yUcvLfato "Voices of Paradise"]] from 1980, which contains a tune similar to the ascend/descend notes (only half shorter), and even sounds similar to the 16 bit versions.
** The beginning of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsjwuagHbYo "Starting Over"]] from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII2'' is remarkably similar to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_e5oYqNRSM "Flawless"]] by The Ones.
** The music that plays during the intro scenes of ''Final Fantasy VII'' resembles the "Tunnel Chase" music from the first Terminator movie.
* The first ''VideoGame/ChipNDaleRescueRangers'' video game for the NES uses a soundalike of "When I'm Sixty-Four" in a few levels.
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBG7TWaZHIY Area H]] from ''Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers 2'' is a Haunted House level that sounds VERY ''Franchise/{{Castlevania}}'' [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpIQt5qUHDk inspired]].
* The NES RPG ''Hydlide'' has an overworld tune that sounds suspiciously close to John Williams' "Raiders' March", the theme song to the ''Franchise/IndianaJones'' films. (This tune was actually borrowed from ''Hydlide II'', which was otherwise unreleased outside Japan.)
* ''ABoyAndHisBlob'' for {{NES}} opens with Suspiciously Similar Songs to both [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vj9YbRPu9Y the theme music and the logo]] of ''Film/RaidersOfTheLostArk''. However, this was clearly meant as either a parody or a ShoutOut.
* One of the tracks in ''CrashTagTeamRacing'' also features a section which closely resembles "Raider's March" from the Indiana Jones film series.
** Yet another game played with the "Raider's March" theme: The Aztec bonus level in ''Gex: Enter the Gecko''.
** The main battle theme from ''Stella Deus: The Gate of Eternity'' resembles the refrain of the "Raider's March" as well.
* Bizarrely, the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6UmnXlMs68 "Fever"]] theme from the various incarnations of Dr. Mario appears to be a more upbeat Suspiciously Similar Song to Music/TheBeatles' [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vf26cRtG_w "Lady Madonna."]] [[http://www.gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=88261 Here's a comparison video]], and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3IanzTU4y4 here's another]] with clips from the ''Super Mario World'' cartoon. Also, compare [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlAA0FFKn24 the main title theme]] to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oE6HhO1ohZU the Four Seasons' "Sherry"]].
* The stage music for Dracula's stage in ''VideoGame/CastlevaniaIIIDraculasCurse'' sounds an awful lot like the BillyJoel song "Pressure" inverted (bass line on top, melody on bottom). Go into music demo mode, and what's that stage's music called? "Pressure."
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ul5IIz2iJwY Entrance Hall]] and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXMqhHRxJGQ Chandeliers]] from ''VideoGAme/SuperCastlevaniaIV'' resemble parts of Beethoven's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k46fdX_3xDM Piano Concerto No. 3]].
* Most if not all of the music in the CAVE shmup ''Dangun Feveron'' are suspiciously similar to ''SaturdayNightFever'' music; for instance, 2 stage themes are more than a little similar to "Stayin' Alive" and "Night Fever".
* In ''Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim'', [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzfodAERwuU "Ernst"]] is suspiciously similar to "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foWuYIvfgKk Moon Over The Castle]]", the theme song from the Japanese versions of the ''GranTurismo'' games. There's even a fan-made mashup of the two songs.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN3CGAU4Z0g&feature=related Release of the Far West Ocean]] also resembles MOTC.
** Olha's theme from the same game, especially the TriumphantReprise, resembles the famous ThemeTune of ''Film/CloseEncountersOfTheThirdKind''.
** The OminousLatinChanting in the cutscene [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S115prt7QJE&feature=BFa&list=PL1774A77B982FD38C&index=20 where the Ark is revived and Galba Roa destroys the fleet]] remarkably resembles [[Music/CarminaBurana "O Fortuna"]].
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoyLvhCa0k4 Quatera Woods]] is similar to Seal's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMD2TwRvuoU Kiss From a Rose]].
** Actually it's a sped up version of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoek1e8t2K4 To The Last Whale]] by Crosby, Stills & Nash... then again, Kiss From A Rose is also a version of that song...
** Crevia's theme in the PS2 version sounds similar to the Prologue theme from ''Disney/BeautyAndTheBeast'', which itself was inspired by the Aquarium movement of Camille Saint-Saens' ''TheCarnivalOfTheAnimals''.
** In ''YsIVTheMaskOfTheSun'', Lava Field" sounds like the first level theme from ''Demon Sword'', and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=572Dq97s6kA "A Great Ordeal"]] sounds like "Wheel of Fortune" by Tony [=MacAlpine=]; also, its intro is practically identical to the intro of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eK0rvReE-4c "Far Beyond the Sun"]] by Music/YngwieMalmsteen.
** In ''YsIIIWanderersFromYs'', the beginning of "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBxrmB3Sdzw A Searing Struggle]]" resembles "Cross Fire" from ''[[{{Gradius}} Life Force/Salamander]]''. In turn, "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNHHVn_Am5k Eternus]]" by Sanxion7 sounds similar to "A Searing Struggle".
** In turn, the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkkbWl9uOeM first level theme]] from ''Jim Power'' for Amiga and SNES bears a ''striking'' resemblance to "A Searing Struggle". Chris Hülsbeck had indeed played ''Wanderers From Ys'' before composing the music for ''Jim Power'', but claims that the inspiration was purely subliminal-- he had mostly forgotten about the Ys soundtrack by that point.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wsrUR_7ZMQ "Termination"]] also somewhat resembles the aforementioned "Cross Fire", and in turn it has a suspiciously similar song in ''Gradius III'', [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KCdahc5q9M "Fire Scramble"]].
** The primary riff of "Holders of Power" from ''VideoGame/{{Ys}} I and II'' sounds like a faster version of the opening riff of "Flash of the Blade" by Iron Maiden.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38dR1YYulio "Palace"]] from the first game, especially the latter half, is suspiciously similar to their song [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loNv0yB5Bqs "Strange World"]].
** The opening notes of "Tower of the Shadow of Death" from the first ''Ys'' game and the "Underground Theme" from the ''SuperMarioBros'' series sound suspiciously similar.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDm9LaJeN9w "First Step towards Wars"]] subtly resembles the ''InspectorGadget'' [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psnCd3aFLmc opening theme]].
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JV2c5TfROM8&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PLBF5B904D5938377C "Bronze District"]] from ''The Dawn of Ys'' is an expy of the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XxmFd6CaE0 Area 1 music]] from ''TheGuardianLegend''.
** The intro of the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSxg5iGhS9I Five Disciples]] theme has a suspicious similarity to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcL---4xQYA Stairway to Heaven]] by LedZeppelin.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7d0Fn-fN70 "Valley of Quicksand"]] combines elements of the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sQgSvias6k Stage 4]] (second half) and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rL8BA3E93Bg Stage 5]](first half) themes from ''{{Raiden}} II''. In turn, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4RSrEsXUY8 "Tragedy Flame" (Stage 2 & 8)]] from that game sounds similar to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lcI-A1RFyE "Ice Ridge of Noltia"]] from ''Ys II''.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_ujvRZSIlI Ruins of Moondoria]], to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqWW0PTkjR8 Bloody Tears]] from ''VideoGame/CastlevaniaCastlevaniaIISimonsQuest''.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhvMar5qZ94 Moat of Burned Bless]] sounds suspiciously like [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80m9X6b89XE Heart of Fire]].
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6G_nFcAjDk The Ruined City Kishgal]] from ''Ys VI'' sounds like a hybrid of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYbINBnYeFA Underwater Rampart]] from ''VideoGame/BattleGaregga'' and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdlIJ3g6dFI Aquarium]] from ''[[RaySeries RayStorm]]''.
** "Underwater Rampart" is itself a sped-up ripoff of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQv3dCkY2Tk "Jupiter Jazz"]] by Underground Resistance.
* In ''VideoGame/{{Mother 3}}'', the "Mr. Batty" enemies have theme music that sounds ''strikingly'' similar--especially in its intro--to the 1960's Series/{{Batman}} theme. You know--"Nahnahnahnahnahna nana nahnahnahnahnahna nana BATMAAAAAN!"
** In addition, the Jealous Bass music sounds rather similar to the Grease Lightning song.
** The Love Theme itself sounds a lot like "Beauty and the Beast" from, well, ''Disney/BeautyAndTheBeast''.
*** In-series, it's suspiciously similar to "Boy Meets Girl" from ''VideoGame/{{Earthbound}}''.
** [[http://cruiseelroy.net/2009/01/mother-3-musical-allusions/ There's also more...]]
* In the WesternAnimation/{{Animaniacs}} game "The Great Edgar Hunt", the main Studio Lot theme is suspiciously similar to the Cartoon Show's theme tune. Seeing as this trope is a well known staple of the Animaniacs cartoons, it's kind of fitting that the Animaniacs theme itself got the same treatment.
** Many ''Animaniacs'' games feature knockoff songs to accompany their film parodies: between the SNES and Genesis games alone, we have two separate soundalikes of the ''Franchise/IndianaJones'' theme, one of ''Franchise/StarWars'', one of ''Film/ETTheExtraterrestrial'', one of ''Film/{{Jaws}}''...
* Depending on who you talk to, the ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid'' melody could be a shameless rip-off of the ''Speed'' theme tune or an up-beat suspiciously similar to "The Winter Road" by Sviridov. In each case the stylistic similarity is more obvious when looking at Gregson-Williams' orchestral version of the theme from the 2001 ''[=MGS2=]'' trailer, but the melody's present in TAPPY's original 1998 version.
** Big Boss's {{Leitmotif}} is suspiciously similar to the ''Metal Gear Solid'' theme, which sounds a little more tender than the actual melody due to the changing of two chords in the progression.
*** The song "Old Snake" seems to be suspiciously similar to the main theme as well, slower and sadder.
** And the Metal Gear KODOQUE theme in ''VideoGame/MetalGearAcid'' [[spoiler:and its sequel]] was suspiciously similar to the ''Metal Gear Solid'' main theme with the same chord progression but a different melody.
** The main RecurringRiff in the original ''Metal Gear Solid''(ambience, alert music, boss music, etc.) resembles Music/{{Kraftwerk}}'s "Radio-Activity", especially with that synthesized choir.
** The theme tune of the festive fan parody game, ''[[http://www.superfundungeonrun.com/total-klik//merrygear.html Merry Gear Solid]]'', finished with a suspiciously similar song to "Snake Eater" from ''VideoGame/{{Metal Gear Solid 3|SnakeEater}}'', called "Secret Santa".
*** Merry Gear Solid has a lot of these. The ''Merry Gear Solid 2: Ghosts of Christmas Past'' is full of them, often with hilarious results. For example, [[spoiler:the Konami-ripoff logo at the beginning starts with the normal "doo doo doo, do do do" then finishes with Jingle Bells via pitch-shifting.]]
** The indoor infiltration theme in the NES version of ''VideoGame/MetalGear'' features a tune similar to the ''MissionImpossible'' theme.
** ''VideoGame/MetalGear2SolidSnake'' had a soundtrack hacked together from gutted, chiptuned versions of the best action movie themes of the [=80s=]. Some, like the similarity between "Advance Immediately" and the ''Film/{{Terminator}}'' main theme, and the "Theme of Solid Snake" and the theme from ''Film/EscapeFromNewYork'', are subtle. Other, like the relationship between "Chasing The Green Beret" and the ''MissionImpossible'' theme, are less so. Night Sight's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5fTHoG8pTI theme]] was such an obvious ripoff of [[Franchise/{{Halloween}} Michael Myers]]' [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nq6pekM6sZQ theme music]] that it was excluded from the OST album. The bonus track "Swing, Swing~ A Jam Blues" is suspiciously similar to Sing Sing Sing by Benny Goodman.
*** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5n8m4j7MKAs "The Front Line"]] sounds similar to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9GMla82iGg "Aqua Illusion"]] from ''{{Gradius}} III'', another {{Konami}} game.
** The ending theme to ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolidPortableOps'', [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXkgn3QUA2w Calling to the Night]], sounds similar to the ''Film/{{Titanic}}'' song, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saalGKY7ifU My Heart Will Go On]].
* The RecurringRiff in the first two ''VideoGame/WarioLand'' games is, inexplicably, an upbeat Suspiciously Similar Song to "Beautiful Dreamer".
* The song that plays in the early routes of the first generation of ''{{Pokemon}}'' games sounds suspiciously similar to Polly Wolly Doodle. If you listen closely, the harmony sounds a bit like the "Flea Waltz".
** The first few bars of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vz1AIUWsgEs Prof. Oak's lab theme]] in Generations I and III (and later the theme for his radio show in Gens. II and IV) sounds nearly identical to the first few bars of the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llA1xOFRYj0 "Chinese Dance" (or "Tea")]] from Tchaikovsky's ''The Nutcracker''.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxqHQ9nOZcc The theme for Route 29]] in ''Gold'' and ''Silver'' (and their respective remakes) sounds very similar to both the original Route 1 theme and "O Susanna".
** The Primal Dialga theme from [[VideoGame/PokemonMysteryDungeon ''Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky'']] is suspiciously similar to the Bowser Jr. battle from ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy''.
*** On a similar note, the music that plays in Fall City Harbor for PokemonRanger sounds very much like Peach's theme from Super Mario Galaxy.
** Route 209 (from Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum) shares an extremely similar tune to the choruses of ElectricLightOrchestra's "Telephone Line" and Music/MottTheHoople's "All the Young Dudes".
** The music in the Celestial Tower in Black and White sounds quite a bit like the "Secret of the Forest" track in ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger''
** Let's add some VideoGame/{{Touhou}}. The Final N battle theme has parts of "Now, until the moment you die" from Highly Responsive to Prayers about 0:47 onward.
** The opening bar of the "Farewell" track from ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'' is pretty much exactly the same as the start of ''VideoGame/{{Mother 3}}'''s famous "Love Theme". Other parts bear resemblance to "To Far Away Times" from ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger''.
*** "Route 10" has also been compared to "Run, My Dog, Run" from ''VideoGame/{{Mother 3}}''
*** Parts of the Mistralton City theme sound very similar to the original Star Trek theme.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYSbR3a4Wyw Lumiose City's theme]] in PokemonXAndY sounds almost exactly like the theme from [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcZhJDUFb58 Gusty Garden Galaxy]] in SuperMarioGalaxy.
* In ''Stuntman'', most of the films you work on are {{Lawyer Friendly Cameo}}s of existing ones, complete with suspiciously familiar music that's surprisingly good in matching the mood of the original while never being identical. For example, see [[http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ImWAkd684mw this video of a scene from the latest Dakota Scott movie]].
* The pool level in the SNES/Genesis game ''CoolSpot'' resembled, but was not quite, Music/FatsDomino's "Walkin' to New Orleans," while the train level used a song that was just a few notes away from ''TheMagnificentSeven'' theme.
* [[Franchise/RoboCop One guess]] as to what the theme of ''James Pond II: Robocod'' is suspiciously similar to. (Amazingly, the prior game did ''not'' use a knockoff of the ''Film/JamesBond'' theme.)
* The [[VideoGame/TeamFortress2 "Meet the Engineer"]] trailer used a guitar piece suspiciously similar to a song called, oddly enough, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj85PFpHHCI "Someone Else's Song",]] by the group Wilco. When the song was added to the game as main menu music nearly unaltered from the trailer, it was quickly changed out for a Suspiciously Similar Song twice.
* The theme music to online freeware game ''LegendOfPrincess'' is suspiciously similar to the ''Zelda'' theme because the game is a takeoff of ''Zelda''.
* ''NoMoreHeroes'''s Thunder Ryu Building is a gym in which Travis can upgrade his abilities. The background music is almost, but not quite, Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger."
** Also, the credits music sounds very similar to the ''Star Wars'' theme. The version that appears on the official soundtrack makes it even more obvious: not only is it played by an orchestra, as opposed to the 8-bit style version in the game; but the track itself is called "Staff Wars: Episode I"
* Done in ''EliteBeatAgents'', when most of the songs are covers. Most of them are exactly the same, but with different vocals, although some become faster (such as "Let's Dance", which is incredibly jarring listening to the game and original versions back-to-back). The exceptions are Sk8er Boi and September, which might as well ''be'' the original versions, and "Jumping Jack Flash"; if it weren't for the lyrics, you'd think it was an ''entirely different song''. This was [[SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic for the better]] [[TotallyRadical to the extreme]].
** For similar reasons, ''OsuTatakaeOuendan,'' the Japanese counterpart/predecessor series to ''EliteBeatAgents'', mostly uses covers throughout the game.
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ovCp9HXn-o Jungle Bouncer]], the theme of the ''IkariWarriors'' team in both ''TheKingOfFighters '' ''[='94=]'' and ''2002'' for the most part sounded quite like Faith No More's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upWUuByQLxQ Surprise, You're Dead!]].
** Igniz, [[SNKBoss one of the cheapest bastards that'll you ever face]], pulls this twice. His ''2001'' theme , [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzFIg7zmrAs Kare koso Saikyo (I'm the Strongest!)]], is a faster rock version of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OivRHzXUm2A Original Zero's theme]]. In ''2002: [[UpdatedRerelease Unlimited Match]]'', he's given a new theme called [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fy16dCouwc8 Save The Universe]], which sounds like [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6cfOUgt0h4 Mildred Avalon's theme]] from ''VideoGame/ArcanaHeart''.
** In ''[[VideoGame/FatalFury Garou: Mark of the Wolves]]'', there's a bridge in Rock's theme ([[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flPBoVYkyx4 Spread the Wings]]) which is taken directly from [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCbO-3hjPok Children]] by Robert Miles. As for B. Jenet, the opening to her theme ([[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKw6eX5IQAk Bad Girl]]) is based off [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvfknks-3Dg Kurikinton]], the iconic theme of series hero Terry Bogard.
** Wild Party sounds similar to Music/OzzyOsbourne's "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MLp7YNTznE Crazy Train]]".
* Earlier versions of ''VideoGame/{{Eversion}}'' used music from the obscure Famicom game ''VideoGame/{{Cocoron}}'' for their title screen and first world. Version 1.7, however, uses tunes that are clearly suspiciously similar to the original Cocoron music.
* The doujin game ''[[LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekitou]]'' features Konata and Akira from ''Manga/LuckyStar'' as unlockable {{secret character}}s. In the stage where you fight them, a SuspiciouslySimilarSong version of "Motteke Seifuku", the latter's ThemeSong, can be heard.
* One of the {{sh|ootEmUp}}mup ''ArmedPoliceBatrider'''s boss themes, "Let Ass Kick Together", has an opening riff like the main riff from Music/IronMaiden's "Powerslave", just in a different key and with a couple of notes different, although the rest of the theme is different.
* The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dw0DsmMvu1k Heliport theme]] in ''VideoGame/DoubleDragon II: The Revenge'' sounds very similar to the Music/PhilCollins song "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aJ2Vh_e2dQ Easy Lover]]", as well as Dire Straits' "Money For Nothing". [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQENAqNXc9s "Escape to the Forest"]] sounds similar to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0qBaBb1Y-U&ob=av2e "Sussudio"]], another Phil Collins song, which itself was a suspiciously similar song of Music/{{Prince}}'s "1999".
** The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsPo_ZYCjXk credits music]] suspiciously resembles [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zo5bbB25nJM Feena's theme]] from the ''VideoGame/{{Ys}}'' series.
* "Heian Alien", the BonusBoss theme in ''[[VideoGame/{{Touhou}} Undefined Fantastic Object]]'' is suspiciously similar to "U.N. Owen Was Her?", the BonusBoss theme from ''Embodiment of Scarlet Devil'', to the point of referring to the former as "[=UFOwen=] Was Her?"
** "Our Hisoutensoku" from Touhou 12.3 is an intentional ShoutOut to the theme from ''MazingerZ''.
** In a similar vein, doing Reimu's [[AwesomeButImpractical Fatal KO move]] in the same game makes the background music jump to a suspiciously similar version of [[Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar Ai Wo Torimadose]]. Like "Our Hisoutensoku", this was an intentional ShoutOut, due to the move being called "Musou Tensei".
** Sakuya's "Flowering Night" theme from "Phantasmagoria of Flower View" sounds an awful lot like the beginning of Music/IronMaiden's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSSHk0U9gv4#t=16s "The Trooper"]].
** The first portion of Suwako's theme "Native Faith" is pretty heavily based on the final boss theme from ''NightStriker''. This isn't random; ZUN used to work at Taito, so there's a good chance that this was his version of a tribute to Mar (''Night Striker'''s composer).
** The arpeggio in the intro of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pw2WQjqKpVM Kaguya's theme (Lunatic Princess)]] from ''Imperishable Night'' is nearly identical to the ''{{Xevious}}'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdPRM0haWco theme]].
* The main in-game theme of ''Transformers: Convoy no Nazo'' sounds very similar to the main theme of the Jaleco arcade/NES ShootEmUp ''Argus''.
* The overworld theme in the original ''{{Wild ARMs}}'' has a few bits taken from "The Ecstasy of Gold" from ''Film/TheGoodTheBadAndTheUgly''.
** ''Twilight Venom'' also uses ''Film/TheGoodTheBadAndTheUgly'''s famous five-note whistle in its theme.
** As does ''VideoGame/{{Boktai}}'', more frequently than you could imagine them getting away with.
** In ''Wild Arms 3'', the theme for the town of Claiborne resembles "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas.
** Many of the themes in ''Wild Arms Alter Code: F'' are not direct remixes of tracks from the original ''Wild Arms'' but Suspiciously Similar Songs, for example, the Curan Abbey theme.
* ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII'' has a track called "The Landing" that plays when your team lands in Dollet to fight the Galbadian army. In the demo version of the game, the track was an altered version of the main theme from ''Film/TheRock''. Apparently, it wasn't altered enough, as the track was changed for the actual game. Apparently, someone involved with the movie complained.
* Another same franchise example: the NES ''VideoGame/{{Rambo}}'' game features a suspiciously similar version of the original ''Film/FirstBlood'' theme as the title theme, as well as a suspiciously similar version of "Peace in Our Life" as the ending theme.
* The title theme to ''SnakeRattleAndRoll'' is, as one might expect, a knockoff of "Shake, Rattle and Roll".
* The climax of the Mantid Hive theme in ''[[VideoGame/{{Turok}} Turok 2]]'' resembles the third part (by Skaven) of the soundtrack from Future Crew's ''Second Reality''.
* The ThemeTune of the first three ''SpaceQuest'' games is either a suspiciously similar version of "Attack of the Hawk Men" from the 1980 ''Film/FlashGordon'' movie or the ''Film/{{Superman}}'' movie theme. The fourth game's version sounds more like the ''Franchise/StarTrek'' theme.
** In addition to the cameos by the Blues Brothers and ZZ Top and their respective songs, the "alien trio" music in the Rocket Bar copies the bass riff of Styx's "Too Much Time on My Hands" ad verbatim.
* ''VideoGame/BlazBlue'''s Bang Shishigami's theme [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSO7SHQOkwI "Reppu"]] sounds like the ''Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann'' intro [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNm0Fj4x-OU "Sorairo Days"]].
** Meanwhile, Nu-13's theme, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hd0cJG8qzMA Awakening the Chaos]], sounds like an extended remix of the ''[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHhePr0TKfc Star Trek]]'' theme. And it is ''[[AwesomeMusic/BlazBlue awesome]]''.
** Compare Tager's theme, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbItpwfqfEs Motor Head]], to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DQrSdQs1gs Straight to Hell]] by Music/{{Rage}}. Considering that the Rage song "Black In Mind" was referenced in ''VideoGame/GuiltyGear'', this may well be intentional.
** The ending theme of BB Continuum Shift Extend [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XVCCoFZhZQ&feature=related Spiral: Blue-bloom]] sounds a lot like Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica's ED theme [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOsJPIScKZY Magia]]
* The PC game ''Interstate '76'' had a number of Suspiciously Similar versions on its soundtrack, mostly of '70s funk songs like the Ohio Players' "Fopp", The Isley Brothers' "That Lady" and Curtis Mayfield's "(Don't Worry) If There's a Hell Below, We're All Going to Go". Even the theme song bore a certain resemblance to the theme song to the TV series ''S.W.A.T.'' (albeit a bit sped-up).
* ''{{Backyard S|ports}}kateboarding'' has a suspiciously similar version of the ''Film/JamesBond'' Theme.
** Tony Delvecchio's theme from the same series might as well be [[{{Grease}} Greased Lightning]].
* The town theme of the PC game "Torchlight" appears to be a suspiciously similar version of the Tristram theme from the original Diablo. Not suprising, considering several of the people from the Diablo team worked on Torchlight. In particular, Matt Uelman composed the music for both Diablo and Torchlight.
* Gruntilda's Lair from ''{{Banjo-Kazooie}}'' is a suspiciously similar version of "Teddy Bear's Picnic". It also became well associated with the character.
** In ''Banjo Tooie'', the theme of the level ''Witchyworld'' bears some resemblance with ''House of the Rising Sun'' by the Animals (the beginning, anyway)
** And in ''Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts'', the music when you first enter each of the new worlds is suspiciously similar to a television theme tune. (Nutty Acres is ''{{Dallas}}'', for instance.)
** Mumbo's Hut theme is reminiscent of Maxwell's Silver Hammer by the Beatles.
* The music from the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4DA9XGpI7Y stage builder]] of ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosBrawl'' sounds similar to Ravel's ''[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-4J5j74VPw Bolero.]]''
** The music from [[VideoGame/SuperSmashBros Brawl's]] [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4cvfXpnh9M target smash]] sounds a lot like Khachaturian's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqg3l3r_DRI Sabre Dance]]
* Apogee's ''MonsterBash'' uses this for a number of pieces of music in the game. The most obvious example being the title theme, which arguably sounds better than what it's supposed to be imitating.
* The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f10CtaCoeVI intro music]] from ''VideoGame/StreetsOfRage'' sounds similar to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFLRHPUWBI8 Sadeness]] by Enigma.
** Streets of Rage 2's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GO14WFh1k-I&feature=related stage 4 theme]] is a faster version of the Shamen's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzbUPISS6gw Move Any Mountain]].
* The independent [[AdventureGame Point And Click Adventure]] ''The Adventures of Fatman'' features suspiciously similar versions of both the 1960s Batman show theme, and the Danny Elfman movie theme.
* In another bizarre example involving a licensed game, the developers of ''The Flintstones: Burgertime in Bedrock'' for Game Boy apparently couldn't manage to get the license to the series' iconic theme song. Several tunes in the game, including [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KY9BMSF8hD0 the title tune]], have the same rhythm but a completely different melody.
* The NES ''AmericanGladiators'' game used a Suspiciously Similar version of the show's ThemeTune, while the 16-bit games didn't use it at all.
* In ''NobyNobyBoy'', by the creator of ''KatamariDamacy'' and also released by {{Namco}}, there are some selectable music tracks that sound like subtle instrumental versions of Katamari songs (such as Lonely Rolling Star and Cherry Blossom Color Season), and the hidden minigame music is from MetroCross, both Namco tunes.
* In the GameboyColor game ''Diva Starz'', one of the selectable pieces of runway music bears an unlikely resemblance to "Lux Aeterna" from ''RequiemForADream''. The song ''is'' a frequent target of suspiciously similar versions in general, but hearing it play as a Bratz expy walks a blue bunny down the catwalk is [[SoundtrackDissonance just bizarre]].
* The ''{{Ikaruga}}'' main theme (the beginning of "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2lwopnr7hc Ideal]]") sounds like a pastiche of Tchaikovsky's "Romeo & Juliet" and ''Zelda'' theme. The other major recurring theme from "Ideal" sounds similar to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR0UjAQIX6E "Bloodlines"]] from ''VideoGame/CastlevaniaRondoOfBlood''. The theme to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNgeKGX6Fuk Chapter 3]] is a sound-a-like of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbJbYFyklTg Hyrule Castle]].
* In ''{{Raiden}}'', the main riff of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pvkt3H2EjBg "Rough and Tumble"]] resembles [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFKtYCcMWT4 "Skull Castle Part 1"]] from ''VideoGame/MegaMan2''.
** The refrain of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omnzHpVh1Kc Flap Towards Hope]] from ''Raiden II'' sounds similar to that of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9D-LXjKVe8 Remlia Castle]] from ''{{Astyanax}}''.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxJIlYuS4T4 Can't Retrace]] from ''Raiden IV'' sounds like [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDr0oy2Tnr8 Act 1 Boss]] from ''[[Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog Sonic & Knuckles]]''.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_1e5nyb1k8 Lightning War]] from ''Raiden I'' takes riffs from two {{Toaplan}} shmup game songs: the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXJNFqREeMc Level 2 music]] from ''Flying Shark / Sky Shark'' and the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjuWpzKt5QQ Level 1 music]] from ''Truxton/Tatsujin''.
*** Considering the first ''Raiden'' game was basically a big Toaplan homage, this makes sense.
** The main riff of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ls1F3mMG60Q "Electric Resistance"]] (Stage 2) in ''Raiden III'' is suspiciously similar to "[[Franchise/{{Castlevania}} Vampire Killer]]".
** The first part of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mU6M74nwEqc Lightning Strikes]], also from ''Raiden III'', resembles [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54jgnb5FMZ4 Knight Man]]'s theme from ''VideoGame/{{Mega Man 6}}''. The last part is suspiciously similar to the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kj5lznf9mg Stage 1]] theme from ''Gekirindan'', another Toaplan-inspired shmup.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q23jVSyxfrM "Fighting Thunder"]] sounds like a faster version of the intro to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQAKRw6mToA "Moskau"]] by DschinghisKhan.
* The music used in the ''NoMoreHeroes: Desperate Struggle'' "toilet" promo video sounds an awful lot like the B-section from the theme to ''Film/AFistfulOfDollars''.
* When {{Frogger}} was included on a Konami compilation for Game Boy Advance, all of the musical themes (including the anime themes, and even "Inu no Omawari-san" the traditional Japanese nursery rhyme that serves as the "game start" music) were given suspiciously similar versions.
* When ''VideoGame/TrackAndField'' was included on a NintendoDS compilation, "Chariots of Fire" (which was heard in the original arcade release) was turned into a suspiciously similar version.
* The rhythm dance game series ''Pump It Up'' features several suspiciously similar versions of songs created by an in-house production band, [=BanYa=]. Among these include "Extravaganza" (Burnin' by Daft Punk), "Mr. Larpus" (Wipeout by The Surfaris), "Miss's Story" (Beethoven's 5th Symphony), "Beethoven Virus" (Beethoven's Sonata Pathetique), "Beat of the War" (Holy Wars...The Punishment Due by Megadeth), and "Love is a Danger Zone 2" (Motorbreath by Metallica).
* For ''VideoGame/CommandAndConquer'', [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JR33UMKoDC4 Act On Instinct]] is generally considered to be the de facto theme music. Once the chiming synth kicks in, it begins to sound a great deal like the ''TenchiMuyo'' [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kN1YYyR5jD4 OVA theme]].
* In ''{{Pilotwings}} 64'', the climax of the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fh9dcrQAJcI Gyrocopter]] music sounds like the main riff of Kool & The Gang's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeTgx_pj6m8 "Celebration"]]. The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_ZlXHXpjnw Hang Glider]] music sounds like a {{softer and slower|Cover}} version of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-xpJRwIA-Q "Dance Hall Days"]] by Wang Chung.
* Another franchise suspiciously similar to itself: in ''{{Halo 2}}'', the Delta Halo Theme is a suspiciously similar version of the series' ThemeTune, and "Leonidas" is a suspiciously similar version of "On A Pale Horse" from the first game.
* "You're Not Here" from ''SilentHill3'' sounds similar to U2's "New Year's Day". Likewise, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNJqBIA6mVg "Not Tomorrow"]] from ''SilentHill1'' resembles [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQZLPV6xcHI "Sunday, Bloody Sunday"]], also by U2. The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZQo_ZMeR8U title song]] of the first game, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jgr-ZSZSSwA "Killing Time"]], [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBYsdw4Vwx8 "Theme of Laura"]], and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxrDCLrd89w "Overdose Delusion"]] have a [[RecurringRiff recurring theme]] similar to Portishead's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niIcxMuORco "Sour Times"]].
** "She" is similar to The Animals' version of "House of the Rising Sun".
* ''VideoGame/BlastCorps'': Almost every song in this game is based off a real song, and one completely rips off Front Line Assembly's Circuitry. I'm surprised they never sued Rare.
** Same-company example: Compare the theme for [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGePLIbxL7Y Jade Plateau]] with ''[[VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountry Donkey Kong Land]]''[='s=] [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iS6jMnYUrx4 boss theme]].
* A version of "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen is heard in ''[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdZGtDHmCOo Pictionary]]'' for the NES.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bg-zFZBZAEk Wipe Out]], the theme of the Osaka Stage from ''[[SNKVsCapcom Capcom vs. SNK 2]]'', is pretty much a rock-heavy version of Lei Wulong's theme from ''VideoGame/{{Tekken}} 3'' (moreso the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYSVM-HhJCg OST]] than the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cE5EtiI3ka8 AST]]).
** This is even funnier when you realize that Lei's theme is a cover of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUhTDpZW-rE Steam]] by [[BoyBand East 17]], which preceded ''[=T3=]'' by a margin of about two years. The lyrics "Outside it's raining / but inside it's wet" is a bit humorous given the nature of Lei's stage in that game.
** That's not the only example from the CapcomVsWhatever series. Back in the first ''Capcom vs. SNK'', Akuma's theme ([[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqDbz7EmKSI Worth of my Fist]]) sounds very much like the music for the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ktaQPVBsUk Spaceway]] in ''VideoGame/TimeSplitters''. In ''VideoGame/TatsunokoVsCapcom: [[UpdatedRerelease Ultimate All Stars]]'', the [[EarWorm ear-invading]], crowd-pleasing [[note]]We kid you not.[[/note]] [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp1ZkMq26A8 BGM]] that accompanies the [[Anime/TekkamanBlade Orbital Ring Systems Cargo Bay]] stage is easily mistakable as Alice Deejay's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHjNmyzrVvM&ob=av3e Better Off Alone]].
** In several Capcom Vs. Whatever games, the Capcom characters tend to have [[{{Leitmotif}} Leitmotifs]] that are arrangements of themes from their respective series, but strangely enough, [[VideoGame/CaptainCommando Captain Commando]]'s [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdW4P2O95B8 theme]] in ''[[VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcomClashOfSuperHeroes Marvel Vs. Capcom]]'' doesn't sound like any of the [=BGMs=] in his game. It seems that his theme in ''[=MvC=]'' may have been inspired by (or actually be a remix of) [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e387UGX2Rx0 Cyclops' theme]] from ''VideoGame/MarvelSuperHeroesVsStreetFighter''.
* ''VideoGame/{{Lemmings}}'' features suspiciously similar versions of "How Much is that Doggie in the Window" and "Baby Face", in addition to the many PublicDomainSoundtrack tunes.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5fzvgTgGaU&feature=related Stage Theme 6]] sounds similar to "{Keep Feeling} Fascination" by The Human League.
** ''Lemmings 2'' has a version of the ''MissionImpossible'' theme in the Shadow Tribe stages.
*** The Amiga and SNES versions, anyway. The Genesis Shadow tribe theme sounds nothing like it.
* One of the songs in the second ''DukesOfHazzard'' PlayStation game is an instrumental version of "I Fought The Law".
* In ''Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine'', the music in Stages 9-12 is an obvious ripoff of Music/{{Kraftwerk}}'s "Home Computer".
* The creators of ''Rick Dangerous'' seem to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSRjV7P6-T8 have liked John Williams]]... or [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMJIiwDlEYo something like that]]...
* The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0WzWdSVFmE Mute City theme]] in ''VideoGame/{{F-Zero}}'' and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66ye8NCN0ig&feature=BF&list=PL8DDCDFCEAC111BCC&index=18 Track 18]] from ''Lethal Skies 2'' both somewhat resemble "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pp4NNv8LTmU Palace of Destruction]]" from ''VideoGame/{{Ys}} I & II''. The latter also resembles "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmDgcbJv0E8 To Make The End of Battle]]".
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJ44d9cgrj4&feature=autoplay&list=PL8DDCDFCEAC111BCC&index=19&playnext=1 Another track]] from ''Lethal Skies 2'' sounds like a rock version of the ''Film/JamesBond'' theme.
** Mute City also resembles "Let's Get Small" by Go-go group Trouble Funk (see [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0WzWdSVFmE&t=0m19s here]] and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aB6K1lw3t-M&t=1m0s here]]).
* The music in the trailer for the unreleased ''[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUFiDeZsViA Thea Realm Fighters]]'' for the AtariJaguar sounds suspiciously like [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egne2ZCMM_0 the theme from]] the MortalKombat movie, except that the MortalKombat theme is good. The never-finished game in question was a pretty blatant FollowTheLeader attempt to be like MK, even starring members of [=MK2=]'s cast, so you might even file this under {{Plagiarism}}.
* The FinalBoss music in ''RType Final'' is a suspiciously similar version of the ''Franchise/{{Halo}}'' [[OminousLatinChanting Gregorian chant]]. It also somewhat resembles the Song of Time from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime''.
* Whenever a video game wants to evoke ''TheWildWest'', the song of choice is the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iteRKvRKFA main theme]] from ''TheMagnificentSeven''. Probably the closest rip-off is [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1jA853YFJ0 this tune]] from ''CoolSpot'', but there are many others.
* The last few bars before the loop in "Child Abuse" (the Robo-Rat/Tesso fight theme) from ''VideoGame/{{Persona}}'' is basically "It's a Small World".
* In keeping with its theme, ''[[VideoGame/ThreeDDotGameHeroes 3D Dot Game Heroes]]'' has suspiciously similar versions of songs from ''Dragon Quest'', ''The Legend of Zelda'', and the early ''Final Fantasy'' games.
* In the old Macintosh game ''Jump Raven'', one of the [=BGM=]s has a guitar riff similar to White Zombie's "Thunder Kiss '65".
* The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYTZuJt9S8w theme for SWIV]] sounds a lot like Depeche Mode's "People are People", even going as far as containing samples from the song.
* ''VideoGame/ParappaTheRapper'': The cinema before the fourth level includes a short ditty that sounds remarkably like the song "Tijuana Taxi".
** The driving lesson song is a pretty blatant ripoff of "Turtles Have Short Legs" by Can.
** Also, "Parappa's Live Rap With MC King Kong Mushi" sounds a little like the rap version of "[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December,_1963_%28Oh,_What_a_Night%29 December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)]]" by Music/FrankieValliAndTheFourSeasons.
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGjWOmyHCMg Lost Forest]] in [[ProfessorLayton Professor Layton and Pandora's Box]] starts like [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEoRavExhfo The Legendary Hero]] in [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTheWindWaker The Wind Waker]].
* You can't not notice the similarity between the start of Ken's theme from ''VideoGame/StreetFighterII'' and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLoSzlq57Ps Cheap Trick's Mighty Wings]].
** The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHlhcqctS9Y Volcanic Rim stage theme]] from ''VideoGame/StreetFighterIV'', arguably the game's best piece of music, has pieces seemingly borrowed from [[ProfessionalWrestling pro wrestler]] Masato Tanaka's theme song "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTGjQ4SunEM Dangan]]", [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYdSLaVu9p4 Spark Mandirll's stage theme]] from ''VideoGame/MegaManX'', and Little Mac's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68tfAq8oFts knocked-down]] theme from ''VideoGame/PunchOut!!'' It's basically a Suspiciously Composite Song at this point.
* While lots of the music in ''VideoGame/RedDeadRedemption'' is original music InTheStyleOf Music/EnnioMorricone, some of it edges just a little bit closer to this:
** The little riffs that play as you wonder around in New Austin contain a melody that [[TheJoyOfX for a few notes more]] would be the theme of ''Film/TheGoodTheBadAndTheUgly'' played on an electric guitar. There's also a slow rhythmic guitar and English horn piece which is obviously reminiscent of the repeated "Per Un Pugno Di Dollari" cue from ''Film/AFistfulOfDollars'', but slowed down and without the key changes, and a harmonica riff reminiscent of the "Man With A Harmonica" theme from ''Film/OnceUponATimeInTheWest''.
** The bounty hunting, raiding a hideout and ambient battle music in New Austin is basically "L'Inseguimento" from ''Film/AFistfulOfDollars'' in a swung time signature.
** The harmonica piece occasionally played by harmonica-playing {{NPC}}s is very, very similar to the "Marcetta" melody from ''Film/TheGoodTheBadAndTheUgly'' (the one that plays when Tuco and Blondie are being led into the prison camp).
** There's an ocarina playing the coyote-call from ''Film/TheGoodTheBadAndTheUgly'' amongst the ambient riffs in Mexico, although with a couple of notes added on the end, or with slightly different articulation. Sometimes it's even followed up with a harmonica playing a 'waa waa waa' reply, with the same pitches in a different order. The battle music while attacking banditos in Mexico also contains the [[{{Leitmotif}} screaming voices associated with Tuco]] in the same film.
* The [=PS2=] remake of Sega's ''[[Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar Hokuto no Ken]]'' side-scroller for the Master System features a soundtrack consisting of vaguely similar renditions of the incidental music from the anime.
* By the admission of the composer, "Ode To The Bridge Builder" from ''VideoGame/WorldOfGoo'' is a suspiciously similar version of "Amazing Grace" InTheStyleOf Music/EnnioMorricone's SpaghettiWestern scores.
* The first boss' theme in ''VideoGame/ConkersBadFurDay'' (a [[NinjaPirateZombieRobot robotic hay sheaf]]) sounds very close to the Film/{{Terminator}}'s theme.
** It's probably an intentional homage. The Haybot even has a German accent.
** The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUg3lweb6pA&feature=related Surf Punks]] song uses samples that sound an awful lot like [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHPeyAd_WQU Eddy Gordo]] and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRY5NaFoUog Jin Kazama's]] arcade themes.
* BeatmaniaIIDX 11 has a track called [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_u9UsiGljZo D.A.N.C.E]] that bears a, uh, ''slight'' resemblance to m-flo's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVqZKflL4PY The Love Bug]].
** The ''{{DJMAX}}'' series has [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmhufQl5ieI Cypher Gate]], {{Fan Nickname}}d "Korean [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbYTZcHAFqE Solid State Squad]]" due to the striking resemblances in their intros.
* The NES licensed game ''VideoGame/TopGun'' by Konami has, as its attract mode demo music, a suspiciously similar Version of "Danger Zone".
** Konami's later game with the same flight engine, ''VideoGame/LaserInvasion'', also features a different song similar to "Danger Zone" for the first mission.
* In ''Bust-A-Groove'' (''Bust-A-Move'' in Japan), Strike's theme "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzK_yEsaqgw Power]]" contains a recurring sample of Michael Jackson's "Bad" and a similar back beat, to the point where its title is often mixed up with the title of Heat's theme-- which is actually called "2 Bad", though it's (ironically) an entirely different song with no similarity to be found.
* In ''SyphonFilter: The Omega Strain'', the first part of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTBO8cg6VUM the Quarantine Zone "danger" music]] resembles [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RhDerMjN28 "The Port of Adia"]] from ''VideoGame/{{Turok}} 2''.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSv43vQJPcs Quarantine Zone (Suspense)]] sounds like [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tekAyLxiZtI Runway]] from ''VideoGame/GoldenEye1997'' as well as the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKLpJtvzlEI theme]] from ''RequiemForADream''.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLTVTFxORtI Warehouse District (Action}]] is reminiscent of the ''MissionImpossible'' theme.
* The intro stage music (and the latter part of the title theme) in ''TheGuardianLegend'' is a suspiciously similar version of ''VideoGame/{{Zelda II|TheAdventureOfLink}}'''s overhead/overworld theme.
* The music to the Golden Gate Bridge stage in ''Super VideoGame/DoubleDragon'' (used for Duke's Hideout in the Japanese version) sounds like the Big Blue theme (with a touch of Port Town's theme) from the ''VideoGame/{{F-Zero}}'' series. The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIoK0t2HoYE Airport]] music is similar to the ''Franchise/LupinIII'' [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHEP71Wt_I8 theme]].
** The main melody of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZt_1pFGUOE Big Blue]] itself sounds like a faster version of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQp-yh1e-nY "When Doves Cry"]]. by {{Prince}}.
* The Magazine/NintendoPower promotional video for ''VideoGame/StarFox64'' features a song that sounds similar to Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit".
* Masafumi Takada's "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hs-SxiWXS8Y Mach 13 Elephant Explosion]]" from ''NoMoreHeroes'' sounds suspiciously similar to Music/{{Soulfly}}'s "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgqN9lg-Xvk Umbabarauma]]".
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_MBPVC2tMM&feature=related "Splash"]] from ''VideoGame/{{Marathon}}'' sounds like [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViN2bRGrBx8&list=FLgz0A27NB8Jf0dJGF5GtDOA&index=54 "The Chase"]] from ''Film/MidnightExpress''.
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vF1Zy6LZM18 This]] is one of many {{BGM}}s in ''GrandChase''. Oh, cool. Epic rocking. And then flutes. Wait, that tune sounds suspiciously familiar. Isn't that [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjjkHg5FOhk The Raising]] [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Fighting Spirit]]?
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCkQAyS4_gI The theme for Levels 7 through 9]] in the SNES version of ''VideoGame/PrinceOfPersia1'' resembles [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEAzwDqCxvw Gemini Man's theme]] from ''VideoGame/MegaMan3'', as well as [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw8Do64bEtU "Arabian Nights"]] from ''Disney/{{Aladdin}}''. Also on the subject of ''Aladdin'', the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y18VEQW4LTc Level 13-15]] theme from ''[=PoP1=] SNES'' sounds like [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEryAoLfnAA "Prince Ali"]].
* Wario Land: Shake It contains a few. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dq_ffUzGydU "Soggybog River"]] is clearly a suspiciously similar version of "Eye of the Tiger" and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqGcjmPflo0 "Gurgle Gulch"]] being one of the original Underground theme from Super Mario Bros.
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4Eg2onR7Gs "Rage"]] by Sonic Mayhem, from the ''VideoGame/QuakeII'' soundtrack, sounds rather similar to Pantera's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DfYLar2QGI "Cowboys from Hell"]].
* The late-1980s game ''[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_%27n%27_Roll_(computer_game) Rock 'n' Roll]]'' used suspiciously similar rock-and-roll tunes as its soundtrack. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rluzNA1k5lw Here's an example]].
** Though unlike many suspiciously similar songs, they were actually licenced.
* "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHMlXBN0kos Fuel My Game]]" from ''VideoGame/QuakeIIIArena'' sounds suspiciously similar to TheProdigy's "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgGA-hHWxtA Smack My Bitch Up]]".
* "Celebrate" from the ''VideoGame/DanceDanceRevolution'' series is an obvious suspiciously similar version of "Boogie Wonderland" by Music/EarthWindAndFire. Ironically, there was also a remix of the real "Boogie Wonderland" in some DDR mixes.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTP7Fkp2xAc "Broken My Heart"]] by Naoki f/Paula Terry, originally from ''Dance Maniax'' is suspiciously similar to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jc1uIBfSCM4 "Remember Me" by Leslie Parrish]], which appeared in ''VideoGame/ParaParaParadise''.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUDCHLksvPI "The Cube"]] by DJ Suwami is this to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dopneKcyNXU "Stepping Out"]] by Joe Jackson.
** The intro and chorus of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDI71H5dPPI "Flowers"]] from ''DanceDanceRevolution [=SuperNOVA=]'' resemble the aforementioned "Lunatic Princess" from ''Imperishable Night''.
* Some parts of the ''VideoGame/FalloutNewVegas'' soundtrack sound suspiciously like the main theme to ''VisualNovel/HigurashiNoNakuKoroNi'', with OneWomanWail replaced by violins.
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJVr0vJK2rs Crazy Train]] by Ozzy Osbourne, and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NRVWtw29Yg Amiga-ish]] from ''[[SanFranciscoRush Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA]]''. The latter is also used in a level with alot of (subway) trains.
** "Blue Fog" from the first game sounds similar to "Green Onions" by Booker T. and the MG's. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yin4uIcnRzg "STL"]] sounds like the main riff of The Just Brother's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Nohjhe8C2w "Sliced Tomatoes"]].
* In ''VideoGame/{{Sam and Max|FreelancePolice}} Season Two: [[ChristmasEpisode Ice Station Santa]]'', "The Friendly Demon Song" is an intentionally obvious SuspiciouslySimilarSong version of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer".
** Sam's {{Homoerotic D|ream}}aydream about getting engaged to Max in ''The Penal Zone'' is accompanied by a very close version of "Pallidio" by Karl Jenkins.
** In ''They Stole Max's Brain!'', the music that plays when Sam fights Skun-ka'pe is a version of the ''Series/StarTrekTheOriginalSeries'' fight music.
** More as homage and less as parody, the theme to the ''The History of Sam and Max'' featurette on the ''Season 3'' DVD is a live-instruments version of the theme to ''Sam and Max Hit The Road''; particularly nice, since the Office {{Leitmotif}} from the Telltale series serves as their 'theme' in those. Unusually, the actual theme from ''Hit The Road'' is played in one of the episodes - perhaps Telltale had the rights to play the theme, but not to rearrange it?
* ''Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley'' has several examples of this. Compare [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0D9HIorsbs Spring]] with [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHHAa3hNb9Q Zelda's Lullaby]], and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkxFkxoQzd8 Winter]] with [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOfXM7gFXso Kakariko Village]] from ''The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time'', [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVQqi6kF_Pg Happy Ending]] with [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cExMJ2pVk-s Vana'diel March]] from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXI'', and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atYb8b5rarM&feature=related Alice's Theme]] with [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWu9iQLwrC8 Cait Sith's Theme]] from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII''. If I recall correctly, there are a few more, but they're not on Website/YouTube at the moment.
* ''Shin Megami Tensei II'' has [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLgAfE6BX6M "Disco"]], which sounds a bit like New Order's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyoDbX1EkPQ "Blue Monday"]].
** ''Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei II'' has [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iD29cN-wZ80 "Dawn of the Human Being"]], which sounds a little bit like the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBmI68OyiPQ theme song]] from ''Star Trek: The Motion Picture''.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_58-XYXuJMs "I'll Face Myself"]] from ''VideoGame/{{Persona 4}}'' resembles [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSsfjHCFosw "At Doom's Gate"]] from ''VideoGame/{{Doom}}''.
*** The verses in [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDv7fPjHDxc "Your Affection"]] sound like The B.B. & Q. Band's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hk3gHNV0Jx0 "On the Beat"]].
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79u36lbB0Yk The Code Is Veronica]] from ''VideoGame/ResidentEvilCodeVeronica'', and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYk3B_geM2s&playnext=1&list=PL7D9602C940A5B8C1&index=65 Dimension 26]] from ''RType Final''.
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aNxhzCl8ME&feature=related Flash of Sword]] from ''VideoGame/{{Valis}}: The Fantasm Soldier'', and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sD9esiYZvOo Level 1]] from ''FinalZone II''. In this case, the games were made by the same company, so it may be SelfPlagiarism.
** Also from ''Valis 1'', [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vk20crJJ97Q "Cellular Tissue"]] resembles the StationaryBoss [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaKSOufXkGY theme]] from the NES game ''Iron Tank''.
* Compare the ''VideoGame/{{Doom}} 3'' [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emoRQ91V1T4 title theme]] and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emoRQ91V1T4 "Lone Wolf"]] from ''HaloReach''.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QDl2XTAPvE Ghosts and Glass]] is strikingly similar to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InvY9JXyVW8 Fairytale]] from ''{{Shrek}}'', which itself was a suspiciously similar version of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBZ3w5b8if0&feature=fvst Nocturne]] by Secret Garden. Also resembles "Sorrowful Goodbye" from ''{{Okami}}''.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EHt7k-vT1U Ashes]] sounds similar to the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUwBhvU_ydI title song]] from ''Film/TheWorldIsNotEnough''.
** The "Noble Mission" movement of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TM2YqbsEzp0 Winter Contingency]] and the "Unreconciled" movement of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAeJDv7ovKY&feature=related Tip of the Spear]] are similar to the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbJbYFyklTg Hyrule Castle]] theme from the ''Zelda'' series.
* "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8RIcyRGJ9c Move On]]"(second part of the clip) from ''{{Halo 3}}'' sounds like "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIR9wrc6H3c Ozar Midrashim]]" from ''LegacyOfKain: Soul Reaver''.
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxZVyEwwSwg The Jet Aircraft Faciity]] from ''MedalOfHonor'' is similar to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDtqoOBsc6s Attacking The Star Destroyer]] from ''TheEmpireStrikesBack''. In fact, a lot of the music was inspired by John Williams, especially that from the ''Franchise/IndianaJones'' films.
** The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9ZVnmxs30A main theme]] of ''MedalOfHonor: Underground'' sounds similar to Princess Leia's theme from ''A New Hope'' and the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLLvvF3j7Fk love theme]] from ''ESB''. The climax of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtU0Cmx3Jqk "Attack on Fort Schmerzen"]] is reminiscent of the Force theme (especially [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aE-c3olfxuY the version played when Luke rushes back home to find his aunt and uncle dead]]). [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xou0NyESKAQ "Rjukan Sabotage"]] sounds like [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ir_IbkUVQbo "The Asteroid Field"]].
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Xm0bzPPYM0 "Sniper Town"]] resembles the first part of Mussorgsky's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCEDfZgDPS8 "Night on Bald Mountain"]].
** The main theme of ''Allied Assault'' is a shameless crib from the ''Death of Jonathan Kent'' cue in {{Film/Superman}}, with some ''StarWars'' thrown in.
** Another ''Star Wars'' sound-alike is [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgPZfQb50JY Clipping Their Wings]], which sounds like the [[{{Leitmotif}} Death Star theme]], which itself was based on the climax of GustavHolst's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0bcRCC Mars]].
** The U-Boat theme is this to the Emperor's Theme from ''ReturnOfTheJedi'', and the V2 rocket base theme sounds like "Into the Trap" from the same film.
* The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_habrVjAGs 25m theme]] from ''VideoGame/DonkeyKong'' is the bassline from [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_c_MLSv6DYI The Ballad of John and Yoko]].
* Creator/{{Acclaim}}'s ''LegendsOfWrestling'' series features almost nothing but this, all composed by the former {{Trope Namer|s}} himself, Jimmy Hart!
** Talking about wrestling games, Aki's ''[=WCW/nWo=] Revenge'' could make this trope look like Kouji Niikura Version. Not only the main menu receives a knockoff, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hh0Vk94Qxgg the Souled Out arena]] also gets one, in form of an extremely catchy, somewhat parasitic and insanely rockified version of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aV_x3ERB-2k Cammy's theme]] from ''VideoGame/StreetFighterAlpha 3''. Just wait till the lead guitar kicks in. By the way, ''[=SFA3=]'' was released two months prior to ''Revenge''...
* In ''Ring King'', when you win a match in one player mode, you get a tune that is very similar to the one from "The Walrus and the Carpenter" from Disney's ''Disney/AliceInWonderland''... you know, the part where it goes, "The time has come, the Walrus said, / To talk of many things: / Of shoes, and ships, and sealing wax, / Of cabbages and kings."
* The soundtrack of ''Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals'' consists mostly of Suspiciously Similar Songs of its predecessor's themes.
** The saved game screen in the first ''Lufia'' resembles the theme song to Disney's ''The Wuzzles'' and to some extent "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" from ''Song of the South''.
** The castle theme in the first game resembles "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."

* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUIVowAhHIs Stage 1/5]] from ''BuraiFighter'' and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7b5BVXVzIk Faraway (Stage 1 & 2)]] from ''Lightning Fighters''.
* The theme for [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-m6ZJY4zQE Rock Rock Mountain/Alpine Pass]] from Mario Kart 7 sounds ever so slightly like Deep Purple's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WFLUhSym80 Highway Star]].
* Unlicensed Sega Master System game ''The Dinosaur Dooley'', released in the early 90's, had some blatant ripoffs of popular songs of the time - for instance [[http://youtu.be/YeeQq7TuSZ0 the title screen music]] is based on the intro to Music/{{Nirvana}}''s "Smells Like Teen Spirit", while the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeeQq7TuSZ0&feature=youtu.be&t=6m12s third level's music]] is clearly "Two Princes" by The Spin Doctors.
* Even GuitarHero isn't immune to this. Bonus track "Yes We Can" from the second game sounds like a mariachi version of the Chicken Dance with a little CrazyBus thrown in there for lead.

** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zze026EoKj8 "Glad I Am"]] sounds like Glenn Frey's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C070_4ya98Y "The Heat is On"]], but faster.

* Also on the subject of "The Heat Is On", the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8pbRFZcylw Dark Forest]] theme from ''AdventureIsland'' sounds like a slow twisted version of the chorus.
* ''TriggerheartExelica'''s [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2JIBKIBjH4 boss theme]] sounds suspiciously like [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJQdOIAo7Tk "Termination"]], the FinalBoss theme from ''VideoGame/{{Ys}} II''.

* The BGM to ''VideoGame/DisneysMagicalQuest'''s first stage, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZi8Lloieqw Tree Tops]], sounds like the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yixG8pfncOs Throne Room]] (victory ceremony) music from ''Film/StarWarsANewHope''.
* One of the songs from the Commodore version of ''Bard's Tale 3: Thief of Fate'' sounds awfully familiar; it's almost as if your party [[MontyPythonAndTheHolyGrail should not fear being mashed into a pulp, or having their eyes gouged out, or their elbows broken...]]
* Katalina's theme in ''Romancing SaGa 3'' resembles "Never Gonna Let You Go" by Sergio Mendes.
