* In ''4 Kids in 5E and 1 Crazy Year'', Destiny ships Giovanni/Ashley as well as Maximo/[[spoiler:Tiffany]].
* ''13 To Life'':
** Subverted when Jessie ships Pietr with her best friend Sarah, for complicated reasons. However, ''minutes'' after succeeding, she shifts into [[{{Tsundere}} dere-dere]] mode for Pietr, causing a LoveTriangle. [[NiceJobBreakingItHero Good job.]] She even lampshades what a [[DidntThinkThisThrough short-sighted idea this was]]:
--->"As a writer, I knew [[LeaningOnTheFourthWall if I'd been a character in a novel]] a good editor would have scrawled TSTL ([[TooDumbToLive Too Stupid To Live]]) on the manuscript pages. Well, maybe not too stupid to ''live'', but definitely too stupid to ''date''."
** In the sequel, after Jessie and Pietr take a DowntimeDowngrade, Sarah repays Jessie by shipping her into a rebound relationship with Derek. [[spoiler: He turns out to be an evil, {{Mind Rap|e}}ing psychic.]] [[EpicFail Nice one, Sarah.]]
* ''Literature/EightySixEightySix'': Nearly all of the named members of the Eighty Sixth Strike Package, plus the maintenance crew and some of the superior officers, are incredibly invested in seeing [[spoiler:Shin and Lena]] become a couple (the ones who aren't can be counted on one hand), to the point where they spend the majority of volume 7 scheming of ways to push the two together, some of them ''[[ExaggeratedTrope months in advance]]''.
* ''Literature/AccomplishmentsOfTheDukesDaughter'':
** Arya keeps trying to push Iris and her grandson together.
** Leticia Tasmeria supports [[spoiler: Alfred and Iris]] after learning her brother is in love with Iris and believes they make a good couple.
* In ''Literature/AcrossTheUniverseBethRevis'', there are hints that Harley ships Amy and Elder. He seems to enjoy suggesting that Elder hold Amy while they go through the wind tubes, at any rate.
* ''Literature/AmeliaPeabody Series'' The titular heroine manages to find at least one couple to ''help along'' each book. Sometimes, she gets it right. Sometimes, she ends up hilariously mis-aimed.
* PlayedForLaughs in the ''VideoGame/PuyoPuyo'' light novel ''Amitie and the Girl of Love''. Because of her own exotic and broad definition of love (as well as the cast's general unawareness of it), Ally ends up misunderstanding relationships left and right and flustering everybody involved. It happens with:
** Schezo/Arle, falling for Schezo's signature [[ThatCameOutWrong unfortunate declarations]] in regards to Arle. To be fair to her, she's not the first to make this mistake.
** Dark Prince/Rulue, unaware that it's just a one-sided fantasy on the latter's part.
** Schezo/Rulue, as she apparently has no idea that the concept of VitriolicBestBuds (what Arle essentially describes their relationship as) is a thing.
** Klug/Amitie, because they were having a "passionate" discussion.
* ''Literature/{{Animorphs}}'':
** At a dance, Cassie says she hopes Rachel and Tobias will dance with each other. A thousand fans agree. But--uh-oh! The RomanticFalseLead, Ax, who everyone ELSE is shipping, causing a thousand fans to groan.
** In an early story, Marco once joked that someday [[BloodKnight Rachel]] and [[ProudWarriorRaceGuy Ax]] will get married by skydiving into a volcano.
** [[TheFashionista Rachel]] ships the OfficialCouple Cassie and Jake, verging on TheMatchmaker when she forces Cassie to go shopping (Cassie lives on a farm and works with sick animals, her interest in fashion is limited to "no important parts showing"), then bribing Marco ten dollars to pretend to be lovestruck at the sight of her ("Girls are such idiots sometimes. I'd have done it for a dollar.") and patiently explaining that Jake's awkward expression on seeing a dressed-up Cassie isn't "She looks ridiculous" but "She looks hot but I can't let it show". When on the Iskoort homeworld, Jake was thought dead and returns, prompting TheBigDamnKiss from Cassie and a grumbled "Finally" from Rachel. Marco, of course, asks if he can get a kiss too.
* ''Literature/ArifuretaFromCommonplaceToWorldsStrongest'': Shizuku supports Kaori's feelings for Hajime, despite having fallen in love with Hajime herself.
* ''Literature/AscendanceOfABookworm'': According to a chapter from Karstedt's point of view, Sylvester once joked that [[spoiler:Ferdinand should marry Rozemyne]]. Karstedt remembers this while watching the people involved interact and thinks to himself that the idea isn't that farfetched.
* ''Literature/TheAsteriskWar'': If a ''[[EmpathicWeapon weapon]]'' can be a Shipper On Deck, then the [[LaserBlade Ser-Veresta]] qualifies. It refuses to unleash its full power unless [[BattleCouple Ayato and Julis]] touch it at the same time. Julis's brother Jolbert also thinks they'd make a good couple, though [[ShipperWithAnAgenda it has a practical side]]: if they get together, it'll stop the [[MegaCorp IEFs]] from setting up Julis with a BureaucraticallyArrangedMarriage like Jolbert himself is stuck with.
* Most Creator/JaneAusten novels have at least a few of these characters, as speculation about who is "attached to" whom is a popular topic for casual conversation.
** Most of the plot of ''Literature/{{Emma}}'' unfolds because of the heroine's enthusiastic, if completely misguided, shipping.
** ''Literature/{{Persuasion}}'' even has ShipToShipCombat between Charles and Mary Musgrove, who each want a different Musgrove sister (Louisa and Henrietta respectively) to end up with Frederick Wentworth. [[spoiler: Neither one wins]].
** Mrs. Bennet in ''Literature/PrideAndPrejudice'' is another notable one, what with her obsessive desire to see all her daughters married-off as soon as possible.
* In episode 7 of ''Literature/BakaAndTestSummonTheBeasts'', all the main characters are shown to ship Yuuji/[[{{Yandere}} Shouko]].
* ''Literature/{{Barkwire}}'', in which the human characters form a "local stray dog" fandom, inevitably contains elements of this.
* ''Literature/TheBeginningAfterTheEnd'': A few characters ship Arthur/Tessia. First of which is Arthur's bond Sylvie, who refers to them as "Papa" and "Mama" respectively as they were there when Sylvie hatched. When their respective families first meet (after an incident at the MagicalAcademy they attend gets the two of them hospitalized), Arthur's mother Alice tells Tessia that she's glad that her son "has someone responsible like [her] by his side now and in the future", causing Tessia to blush with embarrassment at the last part of that sentence. Shortly afterward, Tessia's grandfather Virion remarks that the worst that their respective families could be planning for the two of them would end up in Arthur becoming his grandson-in-law, prompting Tessia to call out her grandfather. Later on, [[ParentsWalkInAtTheWorstTime Virion ends up walking in on Tessia lying on top of Arthur]] while the latter was helping integrate her Beast Will into her Mana Core, remarking that while he wanted them to get closer, he didn't expect to be walking into what he thought was something far more intimate. Outside of their families, there is also the Asura Wren. Not only does he assume Tessia is Arthur's mate, he goes so far as to ask Arthur if the two have already had sex, [[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend which Arthur denies with embarrassment]]. After Arthur's training in Epheotus is finished, he gets sent to the same dungeon where Tessia is stationed, to which fellow Asura Aldir questions him if Wren intentionally sent him there so that he would reunite with Tessia.
* ''Literature/BeingAbleToEditSkillsInAnotherWorldIGainedOpWaifus'': The tavern owner ships Cecil/Nagi/Rita.
* In ''Literature/TheBelgariad'', Garion ships Polgara/Durnik, and possibly Cyradis/Zakath (with restrictions). Ce'Nedra ships Silk/Liselle, to the point of ''spying on them when Liselle confronts Silk about it''. This is one of Polgara's main duties in the prequel, as guardian to the Rivan line (she has to make sure everyone gets together with their destined lover). And the Grolims all ship Polgara/Torak, much to her disgust.
** Given it involves pretty much the sole LoveTriangle in the series, no-one involved outright ''says'' it, but it is heavily implied that this, powered by a double-duty IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy, is the attitude of the Baron of Vo Ebor when it comes to Nerina (his wife) and Mandorallen (his protege, [[ParentalSubstitute who is mentioned to see him as a father figure]]) -- his reaction to realizing that a) Nerina and Mandorallen are hopelessly in love, b) both of them are far too noble to ''do'' anything about it while he is around was to pick up dangerous hobbies like warfare, dragon hunting and duelling people who badmouth Nerina and Mandorallen.
* In ''Literature/ABrothersPrice'', by the end of the book, Cullen is lobbying his sisters to marry [[spoiler:his brother-in-law]] Jerin's cousin Dail. Apparently, it's being seriously considered by the involved parties.
* Saul Ranasinghe of ''Literature/TheCaseFilesOfJewelerRichard'' even asks Seigi "if [he] knows [he's] in love with Richard." Seems to think they're both embarrassing idiots for not simply dating already.
* Captain Kuune in ''Literature/CatPlanetCuties'' seems to ship Eris and Kio- she arranges for Eris to attend school with him and sets up other opportunities for the two of them to spend time together in order to give them romantic opportunity. She doesn't do anything to try sabotaging Kio's other two potential romantic partners. [[spoiler: Possibly because polygamy is the norm on Catia (due to there being roughly a 20 to 1 ratio of females to males there), she's just trying to make sure that Eris is included in the relationship]].
* ''Literature/ACertainMagicalIndex'':
** The Amakusa are all for one of their own, Itsuwa, snagging TheHero Touma Kamijou. They try to arrange things to help Itsuwa out and tend to get frustrated when her shyer tendencies cause her to be too passive.
** Pretty much every girl in the series has friends who are trying to get her together with Touma. Mikoto is one of the few who gets shippers outside her social circle; at one point the president of the United States encourages her to confess her feelings.
* ''Literature/ChroniclesOfTheKencyrath'': By ''The Gates of Tagmeth'', pretty the whole college--at least Trishien, Ashe, Index, and the Director--seem to be shipping [[spoiler:Kirien/Kindrie]].
-->'''Kindrie''': ''[bursts out laughing]'' How many people d'you suppose are listening out in the hall, ready to... er... help?\\
'''Ashe''': Me.\\
'''Index''': And me.\\
'''Taur''': And me.
* Pretty much the entire cast of ''Literature/TheChroniclesOfPrydain'' ships Taran/Eilonwy, including at least one major villain and Eilonwy's (former) betrothed.
* ''Literature/{{Circleverse}}'': In the first book of ''Literature/TheCircleOpens'', Sandry encourages a romance between her great-uncle Duke Vedris and the famous dancer Yazmín Hebet — an unusual example, with the teenaged protagonist shipping two much older secondary characters. Sandry worries about her long-widowed uncle's health and hopes that love will distract him from worrying too much about the string of murders that ''she'' is helping investigate.
* ''Literature/CodexAlera'':
** It's subtle, but throughout the series Gaius Sextus seems to do everything in his power to put Bernard and Amara and Tavi and Kitai together — first, having Amara serve as his personal envoy to Bernard as the new Count of Calderon (thereby ensuring that she'll see him regularly), and then when Tavi [[BavarianFireDrill bullshits his way]] into having Kitai made an ambassador, makes it his only duty to be her teacher and guide for the following several weeks. The irony here is that Amara thinks she has to hide her marriage to Bernard because of her duty to Gaius and Tavi wants to hide ''his'' relationship so Gaius can't exploit it, but he seems to know about and approve of both cases.
** Doroga's closing remarks in ''Furies of Calderon'' has him say Tavi is "doomed", and he and his wife were just like Kitai and Tavi, which just involved [[BelligerentSexualTension clear disagreeing]].
* ''Literature/ACourtOfThornsAndRoses'':
** Feyre initially comes off as one for Mor/Azriel until the former came out to her.
** Feyre also comments on Azriel/Elain seeming like a good match.
* ''Literature/CradleSeries'': PlayedForLaughs by combining it with MySisterIsOffLimits. Akura Pride, brother to Lindon's friend Akura Mercy, constantly insults Lindon and tells him he's not good enough for her. Eventually, he grudgingly tells Mercy he will acknowledge him as good enough... because [[MistakenForRomance he thinks they're already dating]]. From then on, he spends most of his time angrily reminding Lindon of how his actions might reflect on Mercy, and how Mercy might disapprove of what he's doing, and how members of their family have to be more aware of how they act. Lindon is just confused as to why Pride keeps bringing up his sister.
* ''Literature/DateALive'': Although [[ThoseTwoGuys Ai, Mai, and Mii]] normally mock and berate Shido Itsuka whenever they run into him, they support Tohka Yatogami's interest in him. On several occasions, they've helped Tohka get ready for dates and calm her down when she starts to think Shido isn't interested. Amazingly, when the three were put under Miku Izayoi's mind control, Miku ordered them to say Shido doesn't love Tohka, and they refused, despite obeying everything else.
* ''Literature/{{Discworld}}'':
** In ''Literature/{{Mort}}'', Death appears to ship the eponymous protagonist with his adopted daughter. Heck, it's the reason he took on an apprentice in the first place (though he does seem to be fond of Mort personally).
** In the Tiffany Aching subseries, it seems like everyone ships Tiffany and Roland: Miss Tick, very annoyingly, in ''Literature/AHatFullOfSky''; the Feegles--even though they think he's an idiot--in ''Literature/{{Wintersmith}}''; and by ''Literature/IShallWearMidnight'' Tiffany is getting rather sick of it, since she's already concluded it's not going to work. [[spoiler:And it doesn't; they both end up with other people.]]
* ''Literature/DontCallMeIshmael'': Razz ships Ishmael/Kelly, Scobie/Prue and Miss Tarango/Mr Guthrie. In the third book he briefly ships Ishmael/Cindy. He occasionally tries to play TheMatchmaker as well.
* In ''Literature/DragonCrown'', Ethan's reaction to finding out Sir Xavier is sneaking around with Princess Sara is to shove them at each other then go provide them with a cover. Despite the fact that Samet doesn't even like either of them, he does the same.
* ''Literature/TheDresdenFiles'':
** Both Bob the Skull and Thomas are big [=HarryxMurphy=] shippers, even though the two have discussed the reasons they don't want to get into a relationship (Harry doesn't want anything casual, Murphy doesn't want anything serious). Technically, Bob and Thomas are big Harryx''Anybody'' shippers, causing him to distrust their sincerity about Murphy. Though, in Thomas's case, he's more interested in Harry having a stable love life, whereas Bob does it simply because he's a pervert. Thomas has also brought up a few valid points for [[TeacherStudentRomance HarryxMolly]].
** Michael Carpenter was also a minor shipper of [=HarryxSusan=] by suggesting he marry her [[spoiler:before she was infected by the Red Court]], though this may have had more to do with him being a devout Catholic and disapproving of them having sex before marriage.
** In ''Literature/FoolMoon'', Harry's subconscious shipped [=HarryxMurphy=] when Harry was still involved with Susan.
** By ''Literature/ProvenGuilty'', Thomas began to get frustrated in the lack of progress in [[AnchoredShip Harry and Murphy's relationship]].
** And by ''Literature/ColdDays'' Thomas gets just as frustrated at Harry for not immediately seeking out Murphy upon his return to Chicago as he does for Harry not going to see [[spoiler: Maggie, his ''daughter'']]. Adorably, Mouse also shows that he ships [=HarryxMurphy=].
** By the time of ''Literature/SkinGame'', Rawlins is heavily implied to ship... well, guess.
* After [[spoiler:Miron]] leaves Dora in book four of the ''Literature/DoraWilkSeries'', Baal of all (non)people starts shipping them back together, proclaiming himself an official candidate for her hand to make [[spoiler:Miron]] jealous. Dora's not too happy about it. On the other hand, [[{{Hypocrite}} Dora]]'s shipping Olaf and Inga at the same time, with [[DaddysGirl Szelma]]'s help.
* ''Literature/{{Durarara}}'':
** Walker ships Shinra/Celty enough that he's written fanfic about it.
** Erika [[YaoiFangirl tends to ship in a different direction]], ''especially'' Shizuo/Izaya.
--->'''Erika:''' Hey, Shizu-chan must like Iza-Iza a lot, right? Kind of like Boys Love between two guys?\\
'''Walker, Kadota, and Celty:''' ''No.''
*** Shinra may also ship Shizuo/Izaya, given that he begins to consider the possibility of there being something between them before being cut off by a horrified Celty.
** And surprisingly, Izaya is a Shinra/Celty shipper but this only applies to Shinra's side because he won't hesitate to mock the two whenever Celty is nearby. The Valentine's day comic proves though that he does care for Shinra if he's willing to put up with his spazzing about the holiday and give him ''actual'' advice without asking for money or {{troll}}ing him afterwards.
* Rose Campbell from Alcott's ''Literature/EightCousins'' saga ships [[StarCrossedLovers her cousin Archie with her best friend Phebe.]] Their assorted aunts and uncles at one time or another ship Rose herself with Archie or her other two possible suitor cousins: [[ChickMagnet Charlie]] and [[TVGenius Mackenzie aka Mac]]. [[spoiler: She chooses Mac in the end]]. Rose also ships Mac's younger brother [[TheDandy Steve]] with the local GenkiGirl, Kitty Van.
* ''Literature/TheElenium'' trilogy: Sparhawk very quietly ships Kring/Mirtai, something he only confides to his wife. [[spoiler:The sequel trilogy, the ''Tamuli'', ends with them planning their wedding.]]
* ''Literature/TheEmpiriumTrilogy'': Ludivine has been secretly rooting for Rielle and Audric to get together, as it's quite obvious the two are head over heels for one another.
* ''Literature/EndoAndKobayashiLive The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte'': Endo and Kobayashi ship Lieselotte/Siegwald and Fiene/Baldur.
* ''Literature/ExpectingToFallIntoRuinIAimToBecomeABlacksmith'': Rhasa and Curroshi ship Kururi with Iris, while his father and both mentors (Donga and Moran) ship him with Eliza. Kudan, on the other hand, ships Iris with Arc.
* ''Literature/FallingInLoveWithTheVillainess'': Queen Sophia ships Rion/Ariel.
* In ''Literature/TheFaultInOurStars'', literally everyone Augustus and Hazel encounter ships them. This includes people they don't even know; a woman dining in the same restaurant offers them a toast, and when they have TheBigDamnKiss, everyone present ''bursts into applause''!
* In ''Literature/TheFiresStone'', Chandra is very well aware of Darvish and Aaron's romantic feelings for each other long before either of them are aware of even their own, and rather wishes they'd simply confess already. She even says at the end of the book she'd never have considered taking Darvish without Aaron.
* ''Literature/FullMetalPanic'':
** Kaname's best friend Kyoko ships Kaname/Sōsuke like crazy. She does everything she can on Kana's side to get her to like him (including making teasing comments to make Kaname realize her feelings for Sōsuke, which more often than not actually ''does'' work). Exactly ''why'' she would want to pair her best friend up with the paranoid soldier that is constantly [[MadBomber bombing]] and [[TriggerHappy shooting around]] the school for [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} outlandish reasons]] remains a mystery.
** Kalinin is a Kaname/Sōsuke shipper. He's shown to hope that Sōsuke will "open his heart" and [[DefrostingIceQueen become more human]] if he ends up with her, and apparently started thinking of her as a hopeful daughter-in-law for his adopted son.
** And then there's Melissa Mao, who, although less vocal about it, is a Tessa/Sōsuke shipper. In the novels, she even talks to Kaname, makes sure that Kaname is aware that Tessa is in love with him, and tells Kaname to be nice to Tessa. Mao proceeds to try to get Kaname to give an answer about whether or not she likes Sōsuke, and when Kaname gives a (rather ambiguous) answer that appears to be in the negative, Mao responds "that's good" and continues to show how she feels sorry for Tessa's passionate, but suppressed and [[AllLoveIsUnrequited unrequited love]] for Sōsuke.
** Kurz, on the other hand, doesn't take sides and thinks Sōsuke should aim for the [[MarryThemAll "harem ending"]].
* ''Literature/{{Gone}}'' series:
** [[TheHero Sam Temple]] apparently ships [=LanaXEdilio=] (Landilio) as stated in the first book:
--->'''Sam:''' You like Lana, don't you?\\
'''Edilio:''' Ur... She's amazing, but--\\
'''Sam:''' Well you can ask her out after we save the world.
** In ''Hunger'', both [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes Caine and Diana]] tease Computer Jack about his budding will-they-won't-they relationship with Brianna.
** No one ever shuts up about how Caine loves Diana in ''Light''. Edilio, Sam, Astrid, Virtue and Toto all reference to how if [[TheSociopath Caine]] has but ''one'' redeemable quality, its that he loves her...To the point Caine had to admit it too. [[spoiler: A little bit too late...]]
* ''Literature/HarryPotter'':
** Hermione ships Harry/Ginny. Sometime off-screen during ''[[Literature/HarryPotterAndTheGobletOfFire Goblet of Fire]]'', Hermione advised Ginny to [[BeYourself relax and be herself]] around Harry so that he'll notice the real her. When the pair finally kiss in ''[[Literature/HarryPotterAndTheHalfBloodPrince Half-Blood Prince]]'', Hermione is beaming at them.
** After Harry and Ginny break apart from the aforementioned kiss, several of their House-mates {{wolf whistle}} at them, indicating that a lot of Gryffindor students have been shipping the pair for quite some time.
** Professor Slughorn also approves of Harry/Ginny, to the point where he teases Harry of being lovesick towards Ginny when his performance in Potions starts lagging, which is actually attributed to Harry ridding himself of the Half-Blood Prince's Potions book.
** Some interpreted Ron's "find someone better next time" after Ginny dumps Michael in ''[[Literature/HarryPotterAndTheOrderOfThePhoenix Order of the Phoenix]]'' to be a hint that he also supports Harry/Ginny, since he was casting Harry an oddly furtive look as he said it. This was on the same page as when Ron also told Harry that ''he's'' better off with someone more "cheerful" than Cho. Harry doesn't get the hint, and spends most of the next book [[MySisterIsOffLimits afraid Ron will kill him]] if he makes a move on Ginny.
** Harry, meanwhile, ships Ron/Hermione, and spends a decent amount of ''Half-Blood Prince'' trying to get them to repair their relationship with one another and finally get together. As shown in ''[[Literature/HarryPotterAndTheDeathlyHallows The Deathly Hallows]]'', he would possibly ship it a bit more if they hadn't chosen [[NowOrNeverKiss the middle of a battle]] to get together...
** In a nod toward shippers in general, there's a moment in ''Half Blood Prince'' where Harry and Hermione start joking about the evidence of a relationship between Filch and Madame Pince, the librarian. There's a nod towards this when they're shown standing together later in the book.
** Also in ''Half-Blood Prince'', Ginny disapproves of Bill's relationship with Fleur and instead ships Bill/Tonks. She thinks that Mrs. Weasley also ships Bill/Tonks, but actually Mrs. Weasley supports Tonks while she's pining over Remus Lupin (Ron shipped Bill/Fleur all along, mostly because Fleur accidentally mesmerized him).
* ''Literature/HaruhiSuzumiya'':
** Itsuki Koizumi seems to be a bit of a Haruhi/Kyon shipper, though that may just be because it would keep Haruhi happy. Then again, [[UnreliableNarrator this IS Koizumi we're talking about]].
** The rest of the school also ships the pair to varying degrees. Most people, like Taniguchi, are just honestly under the impression that the two are already dating, while Kunikida brings up Kyon's supposed preference for "weird girls" whenever Haruhi does something strange.
** Tsurya seems to think it's funny to push Kyon towards either Mikuru or Yuki, whoever he happens to be closest to at the moment. Then again, [[TheHyena she thinks everything is funny]].
* ''Literature/TheHeartsWeSold'': Gremma ships James/Dee, and does her best to get Dee to get her head out of her ass and realize that James loves her. James and Dee, for their part, are delighted when Gremma starts dating Riley. (Though James wishes they'd stop making out on his couch.)
* ''Literature/{{Heroics}}'': Literally everyone in the story ships [[MissionControl Cass]]/[[TheMedic AJ]] in some way.
* ''Literature/HighSchoolDXD'':
** Sirzechs ships Issei with Rias. He's very open about it too, putting ideas in Issei's head about using Boosted Gear Gift on Rias' breasts, and finding in very hard not to laugh when Issei starts raving at the top of his lungs about getting to have sex with Rias. For added hilarity, Rias happens to be Sirzechs' little sister.
** Issei happens to be a shipper for [[NiceGuy Yuuto Kiba]] and Tsubaki Shinra because they look good together, and the fact that he wants [[HoYay Kiba off his back already]]. He's also this to Saji and Souna, but gets a bit harder to do when [[spoiler: the latter insists that Issei calls her on a FirstNameBasis]].
* ''Literature/TheHungerGames'': EveryoneCanSeeIt when it comes to Peeta and Katniss... everyone being ''the entire Capitol audience''. And while Haymitch encourages Katniss to ratchet up the romance for the sake of effect, [[spoiler:it's implied that he ships the two in reality, as well]]. Unsurprisingly, Haymitch also briefly notices the potential for their ShipMates Gale and Madge.
* ''Literature/TheIliad'' (a rather dark book to say the least) becomes exponentially funnier if you view Agamemnon as this to Menelaus and Helen. The best part? It's more or less accurate. While other versions of the story give him an ulterior motive, in the original he just wants to help his brother get his wife back, and is willing to raise an entire army and raze her lover's city to the ground to do it.
** In the background myth, ''the entire Greek Army is this''. Or at least the leaders: when Helen was to marry, Agamemnon and Odysseus had all the suitors swear that, whoever won her hand, they'd support her marriage with him, no matter what or the cost. Thus the war, fought against the Trojans who are trying to defend the new marriage between Helen and Paris. Yes, this means the greatest human war of the Greek mythology was nothing more than a gigantic example of InUniverse ShipToShipCombat...
** The entire story is triggered because Aphrodite causes the already-married Helen to fall for Paris and leave her husband, though in her case, it's not that she likes the ship for its own sake, it's that she promised to give Helen to Paris in exchange for him choosing her in the goddess' dispute over the golden apple.
* ''Literature/ImInLoveWithTheVillainess'': Despite her own feelings for Claire, Rae tries to help her win the affections of her crush Prince Thane, noting that she never really expected Claire to return her feelings anyway. She also supports [[ChildhoodFriendRomance Misha's efforts to win over Prince Yu]].
* ''Literature/ImTheEvilLordOfAnIntergalacticEmpire'': PlayedForLaughs with Eila Sera Berman, main character Liam Sera Banfield's platonic female friend, who [[YaoiFangirl imagines his relationship with their other male friend Kurt Sera Exner as a boys' love storyline]]. This is also why she dislikes Prince Wallace: she cares less about him being an UpperClassTwit mooching off of Liam's largesse,[[note]]Liam had hoped that taking a member of the royal family under his protection would benefit him politically, but all Wallace ever seems to do is spend his allowance faster than Liam can replenish it.[[/note]] and more about her perception of him being the ThirdWheel in her imagined LoveTriangle.
* In ''Literature/InvadersOfTheRokujyouma'', Yurika ships Harumi/Koutarou, but has a habit of including herself with them whenever she imagines them together.
** Lord Pardomshiha supports Ruth/Kotarou, even more so once he learns just who Koutarou is.
* ''Literature/TheIrregularAtMagicHighSchool'':
** Akane and Liu become friends partly because they're willing to help each other seduce their respective LoveInterests.
** In the sequel series, Tatsuya provides Minoru and [[spoiler:Minami]] with fake passports listing them as a married couple.
* In ''Literature/ISavedTooManyGirlsAndCausedTheApocalypse'', R constantly pushes Rekka to accept one of the heroines he has rescued, although she's not picky about which one he ends up with.
* ''Literature/ISwearIWontBotherYouAgain'': Maryjune ships Violette/Claudia after accidentally spotting them alone together during the Blooming Summer Festival.
* ''Literature/JourneyToChaos'':
** Basilard considers it his duty as Eric's mentor to encourage the boy's budding relationship with Annala. Likewise, Annala's mother, Nunnal, is eager to see her daughter married off to Eric.
** Kallen and Mia like pushing Nolien and Tiza together because [[EveryoneCanSeeIt their red-face denials]] are amusing.
* ''Literature/TheKaijuPreservationSociety'': The [=KPS=] has been trying to get two kaiju of a relatively rare species (nicknamed Edward and Bella) to make babies instead of trying to kill each other for some time. When they finally do, the eggs become a key plot point.
* Juugo Kannagi of ''Literature/KazeNoStigma'' is very determined to see his daughter Ayano paired with once-family outcast Kazuma, going as far as to set up circumstances such as dates to amusement parks and hot spring resorts to try to bring them together.
* In ''Literature/TheLastOfTheMohicans'', the mourners at the joint funeral of [[spoiler:Cora and Uncas]] talk about what a great couple they would have made and discuss [[TogetherinDeath their prospects together in the afterlife]]. Hawk-eye finds this ridiculous.
* Jo from Louisa May Alcott's ''Literature/LittleWomen'' ships her best friend Laurie (a guy who has a crush on her, but she doesn't reciprocate) with two of her sisters: Meg in Part I, and Beth in Part II. [[spoiler:Meg marries Laurie's ''tutor'' John Brooke, Beth dies in her youth, and Laurie marries Jo's ''other'' sister Amy]].
* ''Literature/LonelyWerewolfGirl''
** A rather cruel twist on this occurs when fire-demon Malveria actively (and successfully) ships human PerkyGoth Moonglow with [[OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent Ordinary College Student]] Daniel, because Moonglow volunteered to have any hypothetical love with Daniel go unrequited as part of a DealWithTheDevil pact earlier in the book and Malveria looks forward to the entertainment it'll bring.
** Vex also ships Daniel/Moonglow, to the extent of [[spoiler:getting the deal between Moonglow and Malveria annulled]].
** Malveria does this a lot; one of the subplots of ''Curse Of The Wolf Girl'' involved her trying to find a boyfriend for Thrix.
* In ''Literature/TheLordOfTheRings'':
** Bilbo--being quite the fan of Aragorn--supports the pairing of him with Arwen; after the quest is over, Frodo notes that the only parts of the tale that pique his interest are the coronation and wedding of Aragorn, and Bilbo expresses his regret at not being able to attend, saying that he had been waiting long for it. Being TheMatchmaker of the pair, Galadriel also counts.
** During the sequence in the Houses of Healing, Merry seems to be this for Faramir and Éowyn.
** In the book, and to a lesser extent the movies, Frodo ships Sam and Rosie. He even invites them to move into his house, since they can't afford one of their own.
* Cotillion from the ''Literature/MalazanBookOfTheFallen'' seems to want Cutter and Apsalar to be happy. It's just that, well, try as he might to be a kind father figure, he's not the god of happy endings, he's [[ProfessionalKiller the god of murdering people in the face]], so while his approval is well-meaning, he doesn't necessarily make the situation better.
* ''Literature/MoribitoGuardianOfTheSpirit:'' Just about everyone who knows them would like to see Balsa [[HappilyMarried settle down]] [[NiceGuy with Tanda]]. The anime adaptation ends while leaving Tanda's affections for her being one-sided since she embarks on another journey. In the books, however, [[spoiler: his patience prevails and they eventually marry]].
* In ''Literature/TheMortalInstruments'', Jace and Isabelle both ship [[spoiler:their brother Alec with Magnus, despite traditional Shadowhunter prejudices about both homosexuality and Downworlders]].
* ''Literature/MyNextLifeAsAVillainessAllRoutesLeadToDoom'' ends up having three of these, with all of them attempting to ship the same person to different potential partners:
** Catarina's mother Miri Diana is attempting to break the engagement between her and Prince Geordo because she believes Catarina is not suited to be a princess. She instead tries to ship her daughter with her adopted son Keith.
** Catarina's personal maid Anne ends up shipping her and Geordo, though this is because Geordo intimidates her into supporting his efforts to keep the engagement and not because Anne ships them personally.
** Catarina's friend Sophia, [[MatchmakerCrush while having very strong feelings for her]], puts those aside and makes efforts to ship her older brother Nicol with Catarina.
** Catarina herself has a tendency to jump on and off of shipping all her friends together, or even becoming fully convinced they are already in love with one another. The most prominent example is between Mary Hunt and Prince Alan Stuart, but she's also been convinced there is something between Maria and either Geordo and Keith, or even between Keith and Nicol. All while remaining blissfullly unaware that all of afrorementioned individuals are actually in love with her.
* The unborn protagonist of ''Literature/{{Nutshell}}'' would prefer his mother to get back together with his father. Of course, this wavers a bit when he announces his new girlfriend.
* ''Literature/NyarukoCrawlingWithLove'':
** Tamao ships Mahiro/Nyarko; she has a crush on Mahiro herself, but is good friends with Nyarko and doesn't think she can compare or compete, so she [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy does everything in her power to get them together]]. They're also shipped by Mahiro's mother Yoriko, particularly in the beach episode where she encourages them to go on a date and then keeps the rest of the LoveDodecahedron out of their way (as well as expressing IWantGrandKids when Nyarko [[BlatantLies claims]] to be pregnant).
** In fact, all the girls in their class seem to ship Mahiro/Nyarko; in the first episode, Tamao (falsely) told them that Mahiro said [[QuoteMine he could definitely see a relationship working]], which caused all the girls (Nyarko included) to {{Squee}}. Additionally, whenever Mahiro is particularly {{Tsundere}}, they encourage him to apologize and make it up to her. On the other hand, this might be because they believe the pair is ''already'' a couple, since Nyarko's class introduction involved claiming to be his wife (and people always seem to believe her lies).
** Cuuko tries to ship Mahiro with [[AdorablyPrecociousChild Hasta]] in order to PairTheSpares; she wants Nyarko for herself. Hasta is totally fine with this, but Mahiro and Nyarko aren't.
* In ''Literature/OneLastStop'', Myla never misses an opportunity to prod August about her attraction to Jane, [[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend which she is quick to brush off]].
* In Connie Willis' ''Literature/{{Passage}}'', Maisie Nellis takes on this role late in the book. [[spoiler: After Joanna dies, Maisie tries a couple of times to pair Richard and Kit.]]
* First Mate Hiram Miller in ''Literature/PassageToNovember'', despite being a {{Moment Killer}}, openly and fervently ships Captain William [=McTavish=] with Clara Grace, their freighter's lovely cook.
-->'''Miller''': And what are you going to do if she leaves?\\
'''[=McTavish=]''': I'll do what I always do.\\
'''Miller''': And you'll die like the old man, only worse. They'll be hauling you off this boat feet-first and alone.\\
'''[=McTavish=]''': Then that's my business, isn't it?\\
'''Miller''': If that's the way you want it, fine. Be miserable, and when she's gone, pine away for her for the rest of your life. You know that's just what's going to happen, and it will be all your own damn fault!
* ''Literature/PercyJacksonAndTheOlympians'':
** Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, is a big Percy/Annabeth shipper. Though (understandably) she regards mortals as a soap opera (as {{Lampshaded}} by her beau, Ares), and so assures Percy that she won't let things be easy for them, with plenty of {{Wangst}}, [[WillTheyOrWontThey indecision]], etc. In the SequelSeries ''Literature/TheHeroesOfOlympus'', you can add Jason/Piper to the list -- and Aphrodite even goes on about how she thinks couples are cute. "Paris and Helen were a cute couple..."
** In ''The Son of Neptune'', Percy ships Hazel and Frank together.
** In return, all of the crew of ''Argo II'' apparently ship Percy/Annabeth, who act as the steady, established pair the other couples look to as an example. Piper's a standout shipper though as she frequently comments how they make each other happier, better and more complete people. It helps that Piper is the daughter of the aforementioned Goddess of Love.
* ''Literature/PrettyLittleLiars'': Mike is a big shipper of his sister Aria with his best friend Noel Kahn and is thrilled when they start dating.
* ''Literature/ThePrincessDiaries'' series:
** Tina Hakim Baba ships Michael/Mia for most of the series, as does Lily in some ways (what with the plots to get them together and all), though the latter is of course influenced by the fact that Michael is her brother.
** Actually, Meg seems to do this a lot in her novels: Shari seems so to ship Lizzie and Chaz, Magda and Heather's father ship Heather/Cooper, Luke seems to ship Jenny/Scott (though perhaps leaning closer to matchmaking then strictly shipping), Jen ships Will/Ellie, etc.
* Queen Tathilya in ''Literature/TheQuestOfTheUnaligned'' stuns her son, Prince Alaric, by revealing that he has to get engaged within a few months and suggesting a long list of candidates, with the list headed by the beautiful Gratelle (who apparently makes very good berry tarts). Laeshana, who Alaric actually is in love with, is nowhere on the list.
* Ella the [[SomethingAboutARose Rose]] Fairy from ''Literature/RainbowMagic'' spends her free time playing matchmaker for the animals in Fairyland.
* Leaf in ''Literature/RecordOfLodossWar'' is completely convinced that Spark and Little Neese are in love. Occasionally Reena and Garrak team up with her.
* In ''Literature/TheRisingOfTheShieldHero'', Mirellia is trying to ship Naofumi and Melty, primarily for political reasons. Later on, [[spoiler:Trash]] becomes an avid fan of the ship because he honestly believes Naofumi is the best husband for Melty.
* ''Literature/{{Safehold}}'': Sharleyan ships Hektor and Irys heavily during their trip to Chisholm, and with success. Bonus point for all three being on the actual deck of a ship during this.
* ''[[Literature/TheScumVillainsSelfSavingSystemRenZhaFanpaiZijiuXitong The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System]]'': Shen Yuan shipped Luo Binghe, the protagonist of the trashy harem webnovel ''Proud Demon Immortal Way'', the hardest with Liu Mingyan, the most [[CelibateHero celibate]] and {{Action Girl}}y of Binghe's harem wives, before he got transmigrated into the webnovel itself and he practically {{squee}}s when he thinks that he's about to witness them growing closer to each other. This becomes retroactively hilarious when it's revealed later on that Liu Mingyan avidly ships Luo Binghe with Shen Yuan himself to the point of [[YaoiFangirl writing erotic fanfiction about them]].
* [[SnarkyNonHumanSidekick Marchosias]] of ''Literature/ShakuganNoShana'' makes it no secret he wants [[HardDrinkingPartyGirl Margery Daw]] and [[DoggedNiceGuy Keisaku Sato]] to become an OfficialCouple. [[spoiler:It happens and it results in him and Margery staying behind on Earth while the rest of their companions go to Xanadu.]]
* ''Literature/SherlockHolmes'':
** Dr. Watson seems to hope that something might happen between Sherlock Holmes and Miss Violet Hunter in "The Adventure of the Copper Beeches". Holmes seems to very much admire the young lady for her courage and intelligence, but he takes no further interest in her after the case is solved, much to Watson's disappointment.
** In "The Solitary Cyclist", Holmes suggests that the SpiritedYoungLady of the week might get over her kidnapping and near-ForcedMarriage faster with visits from a certain young electrician (her fiancé).
** In "Charles Augustus Milverton", Holmes charms the titular blackmailer's housemaid to gain access to his house. He reassures Watson that the girl already has a boyfriend.
--->'''Holmes:''' You would not call me a marrying man, Watson?\\
'''Watson:''' No, indeed!\\
'''Holmes:''' You'll be interested to hear that I am engaged.\\
'''Watson:''' My dear fellow! I congrat-\\
'''Holmes:''' To Milverton's housemaid.\\
'''Watson:''' Good Heavens, Holmes!\\
'''Holmes:''' I wanted information, Watson.\\
'''Watson:''' Surely you have gone too far?\\
[...]\\
'''Holmes:''' You can't help it, my dear Watson. You must play your cards as best you can when such a stake is on the table. However, I rejoice to say that I have a hated rival, who will certainly cut me out the instant my back is turned.
* ''Literature/{{Shimoneta}}'': Who Tanukichi gets shipped with depends on whether you're watching the anime adaptation, or reading the manga adaptation.
** In the anime, Saotome is all for the idea of Anna [[BlackComedyRape getting him in the sack]], since watching Anna overpower him gives Saotome live models and new sex positions she needs for her art. She's even gone so far as to help Anna catch Tanukichi when he's tried hiding from her.
** Whereas the manga has Saotome and Ayame ship [[YaoiGenre him with Gouriki]]. They even collaborate to produce a 10 vol. doujinshi series about them titled, ''"Please Don't Hate my Banana"'', which has become popular around campus. Not surprisingly, Tanukichi is [[IncompatibleOrientation less than thrilled]] and tries to burn every copy he sees.
* In ''Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire'', there is a bit of a variant of this trope where Arya is a firm shipper for her HappilyMarried parents. When it was suggested that her father Ned was (possibly) in love with Ashara Dayne, Arya actually tries to run away from the Brotherhood.
* In ''[[Literature/{{Slayers}} Slayers NEXT]]'', Amelia reveals herself as a Lina/Gourry fangirl after [[spoiler: Lina fakes her death to kill the demon Mazenda and recover her powers (which Mazenda has sealed away), which prompts Gourry to call her insensitive and ask "don't you know how I feel about you?" Amelia perks up at this, claims she saw this coming from a mile ago. and drags a bemused Zelgadis away, insisting that they give a now embarrassed Lina and still clueless Gourry some privacy]].
* In the third arc of ''Literature/SpiceAndWolf'', pretty much everyone except Amati ships Lawrence with Holo. Mark and his apprentice go to great lengths to support Lawrence's scheme to win her back, despite only seeing them together once. Dianna thinks up a secret plan to reaffirm their trust in each other. Batos also helps Lawrence out, but that's arguably just because he's taken a liking to him.
* ''Franchise/StarWarsLegends'':
** Palpatine appears to be this for Anakin/Padme, but it's mostly just so that he can have another way to manipulate Anakin. Obi-Wan, meanwhile, very clearly sees what's going on, and doesn't say anything for (probably) non-romantic IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy reasons.
** In ''[[Literature/JediAcademyTrilogy I, Jedi]]'' Corran Horn pretty much ships his boss, General Wedge Antilles, with his ex-partner on the [[SpaceCop Corellian Security Force]], Iella Wesseri. In the ''Literature/XWingSeries'', the two had been drawn together gradually, had separated when Iella's vanished husband was found in an Imperial prison, and Wedge had been there for Iella when her husband turned out to be a ManchurianAgent and [[ShootTheDog she had to kill him]]. But they'd been drawing apart again by this point, and despite Corran telling both of them that they were good for each other, Wedge fell for Qwi Xux while [[BodyguardCrush bodyguarding her]]. Corran was dismayed by this, though to his credit he did know better than to try and separate them.
* Matsuri Hojou from ''Literature/{{Sukisho}}'' appears to ship Sora and Sunao together to the point where [[spoiler: he forces them to participate in a clue hunting game alone together to get them to reconcile]].
* Maria attempts to do this for Mio and Basara in ''Literature/TheTestamentOfSisterNewDevil''. It's a rather interesting combination, as she's a succubus, Mio is the daughter of the former demon king, and Basara is descended from the hero tribe, a group that fights demons.
* ''Literature/TheSunneInSplendour'': More than one character ships Anne Neville and Richard of Gloucester after the childhood sweethearts are separated by the political machinations of their families. Edward IV, when he realizes his kid brother is actually in love with Anne, apologizes for helping keep them apart and eventually takes pains to reunite them after the death of Anne's husband. Anne's sister Isabel also stands up to her husband, who is trying to keep the couple apart, and arranges for Richard and Anne to spend time together. Richard's mother, who was fond of Anne as a child and always hoped for them to be together, is also delighted by their eventual match.
* In ''Literature/ToAllTheBoysIveLovedBefore'' series:
** Kitty ships her sister Lara Jean and Peter.
*** She also subtly and not-so subtly wants her widowed father and their neighbor Ms Rothschild together.
** Stormy ships Lara Jean with her great-grandson [[spoiler: John Ambrose [=McClaren=]]].
* ''Literature/{{Toradora}}'' has pretty much every character as a ShipperOnDeck, Combined rather painfully with IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy. At first, Taiga and Ryuuji do this for each other (with Ryuuji/Minori and Taiga/Yuusaku respectively). Meanwhile, every other character not genetically related to Taiga ends up at some point shipping Ryuuji/Taiga.
* ''Literature/TrappedInADatingSimTheWorldOfOtomeGamesIsToughForMobs'':
** Luxion ships Leon/Noelle, while Albergue ships Leon/Louise.
** In the Marie Route, Balcus ships Leon/Marie, as does the Saintess's spirit.
* ''Literature/TrappedOnDraconica'': BigBad ships his dragon and dark chick by telling the former to "stop bickering with his wife." Played for laughs because they [[NobleDemon genuinely hate]] [[EvilIsPetty each other]].
* ''Literature/TheTravelersGate'': An Endross Traveler suggests that Leah "catch" Simon. [[MrsRobinson If only because she feels she's too old to do it herself]].
-->'''Leah:''' He does have a way with swords, I'll grant you.\\
'''Helene:''' What other virtues does a man need?
* ''Literature/TheUltraViolets'': Cheri is intent on pairing up her friend Scarlet with [[spoiler:Agent Jack Baxter, a secret agent for their arch-nemesis, [=BeauTek=].]] She considers complications like that to be a minor speed bump on the road of romance.
* Yoruka in ''Literature/UndefeatedBahamutChronicle'' ships Lux with anyone and everyone (including herself), with the goal of producing as many heirs as possible.
* Gregor's mom from ''Literature/TheUnderlandChronicles'' [[spoiler:who secretly approves of Luxa, because she's "got attitude."]]
* ''Literature/VampireAcademy'': Queen Tatiana and other Royals ship Lissa and Adrian as they're considered more suitable matches for each other than their actual partners Christian (who, despite being a Royal Moroi, is from a disreputable family) and Rose (who is a dhampir).
* ''Literature/VorkosiganSaga'': Cordelia Vorkosigan to Drou and Kou in ''Literature/{{Barrayar}}''.
-->'''Cordelia:''' You two are two of my favorite people. If only you'd get your heads on straight...
* ''Literature/WarriorCats''
** Cinderpelt ships Firestar with Sandstorm... even though she's also in love with the former. But in the end, she decides that [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy Sandstorm is a better choice for him]].
** Hollyleaf does this two times with Lionblaze. The first was with Honeyfern but only to make him be loyal to [=ThunderClan=] and get away from Heathertail. The second was with Cinderheart, but she knows he likes her and wants to let them be together.
** Rosetail for Bluestar and Thrushpelt... much to Bluestar's discomfort, as she's [[spoiler:secretly Oakheart's mate]].
* In ''Literature/WeaponsAndWielders'', Dawnbringer, a [[TalkingWeapon sapient sword]], is an {{exaggerat|edTrope}}ion. She had an extremely sheltered life before meeting Keras, the protagonist; her only social contact prior to him was a [[RomanceNovel bodice-ripper-obsessed]] dragon-girl, leaving her with a rather warped perspective on interpersonal relations. Virtually every social encounter Keras engages in, or sees other people engage in, for whatever reason, comes with [[ComicallyMissingThePoint hilariously inappropriate]] commentary from Dawn about how the people involved ought to hook up.
* ''The Wereling Trilogy'' has a rather dark example. The first book, ''Wounded'', has it very clear that Marcy ships Tom with her teenage daughter, Kate, including making Kate dress up fancily while they all have dinner together. Then, it turns out that [[spoiler:Marcy kidnapped Tom to secretly turn him into a werewolf and have him mate with Kate, so ''she'' would also be a werewolf. When Tom makes it clear that he wants no part in any of that scheme, she sets about trying to messily kill him through the rest of the series. It also turns out that she did pretty much the same shipping scheme with Kate's previous human boyfriend, only killing him after Kate made it clear that she refused to sleep with any werewolf, even him.]]
* Sagami from ''Literature/WhenSupernaturalBattlesBecameCommonplace'' is a rather dark version of this trope. He knows Sayumi has feelings for Andou - like the rest of the Literature Club does - and, stating that [[HopelessSuitor she'd have no hope otherwise]], offers to help her get together with him. However, this is [[ItAmusedMe only because he wants to see the drama]] that will come from the RelationshipUpgrade and what it does to the club's unity.
* ''Literature/WickedLovely'': Rianne in the first book tries ''very'' hard to fix Keenan and Aislinn up, and in Fragile Eternity [[TheHighQueen Sorcha]], of all people, shows some Irial/Niall tendencies.
* ''Literature/PrincessesOfThePizzaParlor'': From ''Princesses Are Never Lost'': In the game that Helen, Shelby, and their friends are playing, their respective characters, Gwen and Selvi, had a heartfelt conversation to settle the issues between them, that ends with a handshake where they [[HoldingHands hold hands]] longer than needed for just the shake. Claire, a fellow player, wants to "have [the characters] kiss and make up", but nothing else indicates there's romantic feelings between anyone, in-game or out.
