->''Dad wants us to pick up where he left off. Saving people. Hunting things. The family business.''
-->--'''Dean Winchester'''

''Supernatural'' is an American paranormal/horror show based around a MonsterOfTheWeek structure topped off with an [[MythArc over-reaching arc]], while simultaneously retaining humor through various means of LeaningOnTheFourthWall. It follows Dean (Creator/JensenAckles) and Sam Winchester (Creator/JaredPadalecki), two brothers who hunt creatures based on UrbanLegends, ClassicalMythology, and [[HeavenAndHell Judeo-Christian theology]].

The first season featured the brothers searching for their missing father, but, for the most part, the series features them WalkingTheEarth as they [[http://girlalive.com/unlinked/spn_map7.png travel from town to town]] in search of supernatural problems to solve. Though the {{Big Bad}}s get bigger each season, it's more common that Dean and Sam already have their hands full with each other. It uses a diverse score of classic rock songs that feature heavily throughout, to encapsulate the gritty rock-and-roll life they lead, and features Dean's [[CoolCar 1967 Chevy Impala]] as [[CompanionCube almost another character]].

Other main characters include Bobby Singer (Creator/JimBeaver), [[ParentalSubstitute father figure]] and KnowledgeBroker to the main characters, and Castiel (Creator/MishaCollins), an [[OurAngelsAreDifferent angel]] that enters in the fourth season. More information about them, as well as the show's stable of recurring characters, can be found [[Characters/{{Supernatural}} on the character sheet]].

It originally aired on Creator/TheWB, but moved to Creator/TheCW after The WB folded.

'''Famous for three main things:'''

# The [[CastFullOfPrettyBoys ridiculously]] [[MrFanservice attractive]] cast.
# The sheer amount of MoodWhiplash it has.
# How it raised torturing its two leads ([[BreakTheCutie emotionally]] and [[{{Gorn}} physically]]) to a [[DeusAngstMachina fetishistic art-form]].

A SpinOff WebOriginal titled ''Ghostfacers'', centered around a pair of minor recurring characters from the series, was launched during Season Five in conjunction with the show's 100th episode. A {{prequel}} to the series is told in the six issues of ''[[http://www.dccomics.com/graphic-novels/supernatural-origins Supernatural: Origins]]'' released by Creator/DCComics in 2009. Creator/{{Madhouse}} made an [[Anime/{{Supernatural}} anime]] [[AnimatedAdaptation adaptation]], the animation for which can be seen in [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4tc8Do5wQA this trailer]]. The American release of the first season of the anime came out on July 26, 2011.

The show itself recently wrapped up the [[PostScriptSeason ninth of the originally-planned five seasons]] with former staff writer Jeremy Carver at the helm. Previously, Sera Gamble had taken the reins from Creator/EricKripke after the end of Season 5. The 10th season premiered October 7th, 2014.

A spin-off show, entitled ''Supernatural: Bloodlines'' and intended to explore both hunter and monster families in the show's universe, aired an ''extremely'' PoorlyDisguisedPilot late in the ninth season. It was not picked up by the CW for full production.
