'''''Space Sheriff Sharivan''''' is the second of Toei's ''Franchise/MetalHeroes'' series, and the second of the ''Space Sheriff'' trilogy.

As told in an episode of [[Series/SpaceSheriffGavan his predecessor's show]], forest patrolman Den Iga was attacked by a monster of the Makuu Empire and gravely injured. He is saved by Gavan, who sends him off to Planet Bird for treatment. Den returns the favor in the last episode when it's revealed, off screen, that he received Space Sheriff training from the Galactic Union Patrol and is now Sharivan!

Sometime after that, the evil Madou Empire, led by the evil Demon King Psycho, arises to conquer Earth. To defeat them, Sharivan and his sidekick Lilly must take action.

[[Film/SpaceSheriffSharivanNextGeneration Space Sheriff Sharivan: Next Generation]] is the sequel movie to the Sharivan television series and to Film/SpaceSheriffGavanTheMovie.

!!''Space Sheriff Sharivan'' provides examples of the following tropes:

* ActionGirl
** Lily becomes one starting from the second third of the series onward.
** Helen Bell is one as soon as she is introduced.
* ByThePowerOfGrayskull: "SEKISHA!"
* CoolBike: Motosharin
* CoolStarship: Grand Birth
* FinishingMove: "SHARIVAN CRASH!" A powerful Laser Blade slash that can split the monster diagonally and cause them to explode.
* FridgeHorror: Unlike other tokusatsu monsters of the week created by Toei, the Space Sheriff trilogy's monsters of the week are outlandishly powerful in context with a rather horrific tone. Most of them never talk or emote, but still have human level intellect, much like a serial killer, and in addition to at least one melee weapon their standard powers include size changing, teleportation, invisibility, some bodily weapon, and shape shifting. Add ReligiousHorror for more atmospheric effect.
* GagHaircut: General Gyrer has one, although his BadassMustache balances it out.
* HumanAliens: The Madou has a few in their ranks, Makai Beasts usually have human disguises, the Iga Resistance qualifies, Billy and Helen Bell as well as their former commrades, and [[spoiler:Den and his family are actually part alien, being descendants of people from the planet Iga who settled on Earth two thousand years prior to the events of the series.]]
* HumongousMecha: Grand Birth transforms into the 400-some meter robot Battle Birth, making it a TransformingMecha as well. Its arms are plasma cannons and each shoulder has a similar weapon called the Grand Buster.
* LaserBlade: Like in Gavan, it is the TropeNamer
* MeadowRun: A rather bizarre one caused by Reidar.
* MonstersOfTheWeek: The Makai Beasts who can transform between two different faces. They also come with {{telekinesis}}.
* MorallyAmbiguousDoctorate: Doctor Polter, somewhat subverted as she is sane.
* NamesToKnowInAnime: ShozoIizuka as Psycho.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast
** Demon King Psycho, fitting since he often gives at least one NightmareSequence for his target(s) of the episode.
** In the last episode, [[spoiler: Psycho Horror]].
* NatureLover: Den was originally a park ranger before becoming a space sheriff and continued to be one during the series, naturally this is part of his character.
* OminousPipeOrgan: Often used when Demon King Psycho is on screen.
* RayGun: Sharivan's main weapon, the Crime Buster, which comes with various types of laser beams.
* {{Shinigami}}: Reidar as well as one of the Makai beasts.
* SpacePolice: It is in the title.
* SurrealHorror: Main motif of the Madou.

!! Tropes from ''Space Sheriff Sharivan: Next Generation'':
* AscendedExtra: In New Generation, who's the ManBehindTheMan? Well, [[spoiler: you know that bird-headed lady in ''Gavan'' who throws the switch to open Makuu Space and that's about it?]] Yeah, ''her.''
* BadassInANiceSuit: Both Sharivan and Estevan wears suit as their civilian clothing.
* BloodierAndGorier: Particularly with the blood.
* BodyHorror: [[spoiler:Space Sheriff Genser underwent experimental surgery ''to become Neo-Madou [=GuardBeast=]'' just to go undercover.]]
* DesignatedGirlFight: [[AuthorAppeal You can thank Koichi Sakamoto for this one.]]
* DyingAsYourself: [[spoiler:Space Sheriff Genser.]]
* EarlyBirdCameo: Even if you don't count ''SpaceSheriffGavanTheMovie'', the next SpaceSheriffShaider appearing here should count.
* LegacyCharacter: Hyuga Kai, the next Sharivan.
* MaleGaze: They spend an inordinate amount of time on Shishi rubbing her ass after taking a spill.
* TheMole: [[spoiler:Space Sheriff Estevan.]]
* RemakeCameo: The original Sharivan appears here, but in a greatly reduced role compared to Retsu Ichijouji in ''SpaceSheriffGavanTheMovie''.
* TheReveal: [[spoiler:Turns out Aileen was never TheMole, but instead ''there's two'' - Space Sheriff Estevan ''and'' Neo-Madou [=GuardBeast=] on opposite sides!]]
* ShoutOut: Rooftop confrontation? [[spoiler:TheMole on both sides?]] This is basically ''Film/InfernalAffairs[=/=]Film/TheDeparted'' as a toku!
** The [[KamenRiderFourze handheld switch]] used for opening portals. Bear in mind Koichi Sakamoto is on the set.
