''Miranda'' (2009-) is a BritCom on [[TheBBC BBC Two]] written by and starring MirandaHart as Miranda. It also stars Sarah Hadland as her best friend and work mate, Stevie; Patricia Hodge as her mother, Penny; Tom Ellis as her love interest, Gary, James Holmes as [[OutOfFocus some other guy who keeps popping up]], Clive, Sally Phillips as her OldFriend, Tilly, and, most recently, Bo Poraj as Miranda's boyfriend, Mike. It's primarily a WorkCom that takes place in Miranda's Joke Shop[[note]]Which was the original title of the show when it debuted on BBC Radio[[/note]] but visits other places in the town. It follows the story of [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Miranda]], who messes up everything in her life. It all starts off fine but each episode eventually turns into a FawltyTowersPlot.

!! This show provides examples of:
* AsideGlance: A trademark of the show.
* BlatantLies: All the time.
* BottleEpisode: Series 2 Episode 5 takes place entirely in one room.
* BreakoutCharacter: Tilly.
* BrickJoke: There's at least one brick joke per episode which comes back somehow at the end, no matter how contrived.
* BritishBrevity: Three series so far, each containing 6 episodes.
* CallBack: Many jokes from earlier episodes are mentioned again in later episodes, or even the next season. For example, Miranda's friend Gordon ... who is made from an orange. Come the third series, she has moved on from making fruit friends to adding vegeta-pals.
* CatchPhrase: Several, including Tilly's "Bear with, bear with" whenever she's reading a text, Penny's "Such fun!" and her habit of using the phrase "what I call" inappropriately. (Such as, "She's having it on a, what I call, weekday.")
** There's also Stevie's super-positive conversations with her Heather Small cutout - 'Whurt hev ya dun toodeeehh to mek yer feeeeel prooaarroroad?!'
** Miranda's "Rude!" and "Good word, isn't it?" also get repeated often.
** Less noticeable is Gary's awkward "Hi." when he walks in, inevitably, at the worst possible moment.
*** But these are all lampshaded beyond all proportion.
* ClothingDamage: Miranda seems to end up in her underwear at some point in several episodes.
* ContrivedCoincidence: The worst possible person always seem to walk in at the worst possible moment.
* TheDanza
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: In a recent episode, everyone was enthusing over how attractive Dr. Gail is - including Gary.
* EstrogenBrigadeBait: Gary ends up with his shirt (or more) off on several occasions.
* {{Fanservice}}: Gary. Especially when he goes shirtless or dresses in his "Alpha Male" outfit.
* FawltyTowersPlot: Every episode has this in some form.
* FieryRedhead: Miranda herself may qualify.
* HeCleansUpNicely: Gary, several times - to both the enjoyment of Miranda and [[EstrogenBrigade the audience]].
* HeyItsThatGuy:
** [[Series/TheThickOfIt Julius Nicholson]] is the librarian who [[spoiler: catches Miranda reading ''Mein Kampf'' to small children.]]
* HugeSchoolgirl Obviously no longer, but still surrounded by schoolfriends who call her 'Queen Kong'
* ItsPronouncedTroPAY: Listen to Penny saying "Lady Gaga". Or "Lady Guh-GAAH", as she puts it.
* JustFriends: Gary and Miranda. Off and on. Sometimes.
* NoFourthWall: Miranda frequently turns toward the camera to make jokes to the viewers and to actually talk to them as if it were a conversation, except this is only done in short bursts, usually to raise a quizzical eyebrow or to completely contradict what she's just said.
** To the psychiatrist: "You haven't got us pegged!" - to the audience: "He has -totally- got us pegged!"
** A ShoutOut to a certain [[{{Series/Frasier}} show about an American psychiatrist]]?
*** Lampshaded when Penny is doing an impression of Miranda, and ends it with an AsideGlance at the audience. Then cut to Miranda also looking at the audience, confused. (Which can be seen [[http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00cqcyq here, in all its glory, on the BBC website]])
* NonSequitur: "When I'm naked in bed and roll over my breasts clap."
** "When my thighs are sweaty and I stand up it sounds like a fart."
* PutOnABus: Clive disappeared in the third series without explanation.
* RunningGag: In a lot of episodes, Miranda will be talking and then suddenly start to sing whenever she talks a line from a famous song. It almost certainly is expected to happen in dramatic moments and every time she doesn't shut up and straight away starts to sing.
* ShipTease: Miranda and Gary.
* SickeninglySweethearts: Gary's friends Chris and Allison.
* SoundToScreenAdaptation: The show originally started as a radio show called Miranda Hart's Joke Shop.
* StrangeSyntaxSpeaker: Too many to count. Tilly and Stinky stand out as the worst offenders, though.
* StudioAudience
** You can easily tell this especially when [[spoiler: Gary comes in the psychiatrist office where Miranda and her mum are in and confesses his love for Miranda, kisses her, and goes down on one knee to propose.]] Half of the audience members are [[{{Squee}} screaming like twelve-year-old girls]]. Then, you can hear them "aww'ing" at sheer disappointment [[spoiler:when we find out it was just Miranda daydreaming.]]
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Charlie bloody loves crisps!
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Miranda Hart originally tried to get [[ToTheManorBorn Penelope]] [[TheGoodLife Keith]] to play her mum, Penny, but she turned it down. She apparently also floated the idea of having Ronnie Corbett as her dad.
!! Episodes of this series provide examples of:
* ActorAllusion: In the season 1 episode "Job", Miranda claims to be an excellent actress, before [[NoFourthWall looking down the barrel of the camera lens with a grin.]]
** From the UsefulNotes/ComicRelief episodes: "Comic Relief is a big TV night. [[SelfDeprecation It's the night comedians ruin their careers.]]" (AsideGlance)
* HeyItsThatGuy: Mr Clayton in the episode "Teacher" is played by [[Series/DoctorWho 5th Doctor]] Creator/PeterDavison.
** the psychiatrist in Series 2 is [[{{Spaced}} Brian Topp.]]
** The guy who plays the Dr. Gail in the Series 2 Christmas episode is the same one who played Cairn in ''WebVideo/DragonAgeRedemption'', the web series of ''Franchise/DragonAge''.
* [[FemaleCrossdresser Lady Looks Like A Dude]]: Miranda's attempt buy a nice dress results in an inadvertent visit to a crossdresser shop where the owner plays along with the ''fiction'' that she's a woman. Later, dolled up, she's oblivious to the fact that a guy hitting on her thinks she's crossdressing, until her (and his) bubble is finally burst by Stevie's astonished:
--> Miranda! Why are you dressed as a transvestite!
* StealthPun: When Gary Barlow makes a cameo appearance (S3E5), Penny turns to Raymont Blanc and [[Music/TakeThat says...well...]]
* StrawmanPolitical: Penny in S3 E2: "What a Surprise". Played for laughs.
