''Magic. It is the proof of courage!''

''Mahō Sentai Magiranger'' (Magic Squadron Magiranger) is the twenty-ninth program in the ''Franchise/SuperSentai'' franchise, airing for 2005 to 2006.

Years ago, a war broke out between the heavenly plane of Magitopia and [[{{Hell}} the hellish underworld of Infershia]]. The divine warriors of Magitopia were victorious, and placed a [[SealedEvilInACan great seal]] on the gate to Infershia. Now in the modern day, that seal has begun to weaken and the demonic hordes within have put into motion a plan to revive their god, [[BigBad N Ma]].

The only hope for the world rests with the Ozu family, five ordinary siblings who suddenly discover that they are the heirs to a secret magical legacy. Drawing arcane power from courage, they transform into the Magiranger and must master the art of magic to defend the world from evil. They are later joined by SixthRanger Hikaru, a legendary hero of Magitopia who becomes their [[{{Mentors}} mentor]].

The motif this time around is "Magic", and the theme of "Courage" and "Family" is also strong all over. Also the first Sentai team to [[BadassCape don capes]] since... [[Series/HimitsuSentaiGoranger around the]] [[Series/JAKQDengekitai first time]].

!!The [=MagiRangers=]:

* Kai Ozu / '''Magi Red''': The [[KidAppealCharacter third son]] and defacto [[TheLeader leader]]. [[IdiotHero Immature]], [[{{Keet}} a tad loudmouthed]] and [[HotBlooded hyperactive]]. [[IncrediblyLamePun Fiery]], if you will. Often quarrels with his brothers. [[CoolSword Sword fighter]].
* Tsubasa Ozu / '''Magi Yellow''': The second son. [[TheSmartGuy Smarter than he looks]], but usually not quite enthusiastic. Sometimes a bit [[TheLancer stern]], which also makes him seems like the OnlySaneMan. Uses a bowgun.
* Urara Ozu / '''Magi Blue''': The second daughter. [[TheSmartGuy Sharp]] and [[NiceGuy nice]]. She also cares a lot about her siblings.
* Houka Ozu / '''Magi Pink''': The first daughter. [[TheChick Mature]] and [[CoolBigSis composed]], but also tends to be... [[TheDitz a bit "off"]] from time to time.
* Makito Ozu / '''Magi Green''': The first son and [[AloofBigBrother Good]] [[TheBigGuy Ol']] [[TeamDad Reliable]] [[JapaneseHonorifics Aniki]]. [[AnAxeToGrind Appropriately uses an axe]].
* Hikaru / '''Magi Shine''': The SixthRanger and the siblings' [[MentorArchetype magic teacher]].
* Miyuki Ozu/ '''Magi Mother''': TeamMom literally.
* [[spoiler:Isamu Ozu / '''Wolzard Fire''': TeamDad literally.]]

!!Allies:
* Mandora Boy: TeamPet. A floating, talking Mandrake who [[NonActionGuy doesn't go into battle]], but [[MrExposition supplies info]] for the siblings -[[VerbalTic de gozarimasu desu]].
* Smoky: Another TeamPet, a [[MegaNeko cat genie]] bound to Hikaru's lamp.
* Lunagel: A Heavenly Saint warrior who fought alongside Blagel, [[BarrierMaiden her life-force maintains the seal on the]] [[HellGate Gate of Infershia]]
* Snowgel: [[NeverMessWithGranny Eldest of the Heavenly Saints and the one who serves as Miyuki's patron saint.]] She later gives the Magirangers access to their [[SuperMode Legend Mode.]]
* Magiel: [[BigGood The Archsaint of all magic]] [[TheHighQueen and ruler of Magitopia.]] Played by MachikoSoga.

!!Infershia:
* N Ma: EldritchAbomination, SealedEvilInACan, BigBad. Referred to as Beast Emperor N Ma earlier on, and later upgraded to Absolute God N Ma.
* General Branken: TheDragon, although he had some BigBad traits when he started off.
* Meemy: Replaces Branken as TheDragon after the latter is killed. Used to be Raigel, one of the Heavenly Saints, but pulled a FaceHeelTurn and was turned into a mummy for this. Unsealed along with Hikaru, he constantly proclaims that allying with N Ma allows him to use his magic for his own selfish ambitions, yet is essentially a slave to the dark god's will.
* Vancuria: Queen of the Vampires, [[OurVampiresAreDifferent unaffected by standard vampire weaknesses]]. As she is the main female general(and her job involve spying), she can be considered a DarkChick.
** Nai & Mea: Two creepy ElegantGothicLolita girls who can [[FusionDance merge into]] and unmerge from Vancuria. Basically two [[DarkChick Dark Chicks]]
* Wolzard: NobleDemon and aside from Meemy, the only one in Infershia able to use Magic.
* Infershia Pantheon: A collective of ten [[GodOfEvil Gods of Evil]] determined to [[KillEmAll lay waste on the surface world]] and prepare it for N Ma's coming.

Adapted into English as ''Series/PowerRangersMysticForce''.

!!Recurring ''Super Sentai'' tropes:
* AbandonedWarehouse: The Magirangers take refuge in one during Stage 37, when they are being hunted down by the Hades God Cyclops.
* ActionGirl: Urara, Houka, and Lunagel
* AllYourColorsCombined: Jinga Majuna, the Magical Curtain spell which all five Magirangers use together to create a multicolored barrier.
* AllYourPowersCombined: The Legend Finish and the Five Fantastic Super Attack.
* AllUpToYou: Just about every episode.
* AnAssKickingChristmas: A two-parter pitted against the two Ultimate Gods.
* AssKickingPose: "''Magi Majin, on stage!''"
* AuthorityEqualsAssKicking: Both [[BigGood Magiel]] and [[BigBad N Ma]] are the most powerful beings of their respective domains.
* {{BFS}}: [=MagiKing=]'s King Calibur, with a touch of ReverseShrapnel for the [[FinishingMove final strike]].
* BossSubtitles: The last Super Sentai to make use of this trope, until Series/ZyudenSentaiKyoryuger 8 years later.
* BroughtToYouByTheLetterS: "M" is for Magiranger.
** "W" is for Wolzard.
** And "S" is for Shine, as in Magi Shine
* ByThePowerOfGreySkull: "Mahou Henshin! ''Ma-gi Magi Magiro!''"
** "Tenku Henshin! ''Golu Golu Goldiro!''"
** And then the [[HumongousMecha Majin]] spells...
* CallingYourAttacks: Always with the finishers.
* CatchPhrase: "Checkmate!" First used by Miyuki, taken over by her kids. It doubles as a PreMortemOneLiner.
** Nai and Mea have their own: "Shall we?" (''yacchou ka?''; always said before they fuse back into Vancuria)
* ClipShow: One that not only introduces the Infershia Pantheon, [[spoiler:but also confirms that Miyuki is alive but being held prisoner by them.]]
* CombinationAttack: Several examples throughout the series, but most frequently the Five Fantastic Kick
* {{Crossover}}: ''Magiranger vs. [[Series/TokusouSentaiDekaranger Dekaranger]]''. Also, like the Dekarangers, [[Anime/FutariWaPrettyCureMaxHeart Honoka and Nagisa]] drop in for a visit in a Audio Drama.
* CustomUniform
* DynamicEntry
* EvolvingCredits
* {{Eyecatch}}: Showing whichever Ranger is the primary focus of that episode.
* {{Filler}}: Stages 8, 10, and 22 are the only episodes that don't advance the main plot in some way, [[SubvertedTrope but still manage to contribute]] CharacterDevelopment and [[ChekhovsGun new spells that get reused later on]].
* FiveManBand: There are two {{Smart Guy}}s on the team[[note]]Tsubasa the potion maker and Urara the divination expert[[/note]].
** TheLeader: Kai[[note]]Doubled as a KidAppealCharacter[[/note]]
** TheLancer: Tsubasa
** TheHeart: Urara
** TheChick: Houka
** TheBigGuy: Makito
** SixthRanger and [[{{Mentors}} mentor]]: Hikaru
** Literal TeamMom: Miyuki
** [[spoiler: Literal TeamDad: Isamu]]
* HenshinHero: Beyond the general application of this trope, both Blagel and Sungel refer to themselves as "Heavenly Heroes".
* HomeBase: The hidden magic room within the Ozu family's house.
* HumongousMecha: The Ozu siblings ''actually'' turn into mecha through magic. When they combine, they share a single mindspace. [[SixthRanger Hikaru]] plays it straight however with Travelion.
** AMechByAnyOtherName: The Magi Majins
** AnimalMecha: [[InstantAwesomeJustAddDragons Magi Dragon]], [[HellishHorse Varikion]], [[{{Unicorn}} Unigoruon]], [[ThePhoenix Magi Firebird]], and [[KingOfBeasts Magi Lion]]
** TransformingMecha: Travelion can switch from train mode to giant robot mode.
** CombiningMecha:
*** Magi Garuda (Yellow) + Magi Mermaid (Blue) + Magi Fairy (Pink) + Magi Taurus (Green) = Magi Dragon
*** Magi Phoenix (Red) + Magi Garuda + Magi Mermaid + Magi Fairy + Magi Taurus = Magi King
*** Magi Phoenix + Varikion = Fire Kaiser
*** Saint Magi Phoenix + Unigoruon = Saint Kaiser
*** Magi Firebird + Magi Lion = Magi Legend
*** Wolzard + Varikion = Wolcentaurus or Wolkaiser
** MechaExpansionPack: Varikion and Unigoruon can be considered upgrades to Magi Phoenix.
* InTheNameOfTheMoon: Magiranger had quite possibly one of the longest sequences at its time, roughly on par with Dekaranger. At least until [[Series/JukenSentaiGekiranger two years later]]. But length-wise, it still outdraws the others due to having the ''largest'' roster in Super Sentai history.[[note]]At least until [[Series/ZyudenSentaiKyoryuger eight years later]]![[/note]]
-->[[spoiler:'''Isamu''': "The raging fire element! Heavenly Hero, ''Wolzard Fire''!"]]
-->[[spoiler:'''Miyuki''': "The sparkling ice element! The White Magician, ''[=MagiMother=]''!"]]
-->'''Hikaru''': "The shining solar element! Heavenly Hero, ''[=MagiShine=]''!"
-->'''Makito''': "The howling earth element! The Green Magician, ''[=MagiGreen=]''!"
-->'''Houka''': "The blowing wind element! The Pink Magician, ''[=MagiPink=]''!"
-->'''Urara''': "The swaying water element! The Blue Magician, ''[=MagiBlue=]''!"
-->'''Tsubasa''': "The galloping thunder element! The Yellow Magician, ''[=MagiYellow=]''!"
-->'''Kai''': "The burning flame element! The Red Magician, ''[=MagiRed=]''!"
---> All: "Our overflowing courage changes into magic! ''Mahou Sentai Magiranger''!"
** In addition, two of the Heavenly Saints also perform one of these speeches when they get to fight.
-->'''Rin''': "The serene moon element! Heavenly Saint, Lunagel!"
-->'''Snowgel''': "The sparkling ice element! Heavenly Saint, Snowgel!"
* LawOfChromaticSuperiority: A mild example, as while Kai does have the occasional burst of power and two unique Mechs, his access to these is quite unreliable. Storywise though, he's always at the center of the resolution of each major story arc.
* MakeMyMonsterGrow: When they need to up the ante, Wolzard (Vancuria temporarily assumes the duty about halfway through the second arc) or Meemy chant the BlackMagic spell "Douza Uru Ugaro" (or, in Meemy's case, "Douza Meru Megaro") to enlarge the beasties. The members of the Pantheon, on the other hand, invert the trope, as they're naturally giant... though they can grow and shrink at will without the use of magic.
** Oddly enough though, there are a few early monsters who spontaneously become giant sized without the use of magic. These monsters are noted by [[ElegantGothicLolita Nai]] [[CreepyTwins and]] [[DarkChick Mare]] as having "special bodies" like them.
* MidSeasonUpgrade: The [[SuperMode Legend Mode]] and [[HumongousMecha [=MagiLegend=]]].
* MixAndMatch: Series/MahouSentaiMagiranger = (Super Sentai + Literature/HarryPotter + [[Literature/TheBible The Book of Revelations]]) + BadassFamily.
* MonsterOfTheWeek: The Hades Beasts, and later on the Hades Beastmen, [[JustifiedTrope who have to be sent to the surface one at a time due to the seal placed on Infershia before the start of the series.]]
* TheMovie: ''Magiranger the Movie: Bride of Infershia''
* TheNarrator: Mostly during two-parters.
* PowerLimiter: It was supposed to be a spell to stop the siblings from turning to Heavenly Saints and lose all their memories but had a certain side effect of weakening the Legendary Power Mode.
* RightMakesMight: Even more so than usual.
* RuleOfCool: While they ostensibly increase their magic power, the real purpose of the cloaks is to be dramatically unfurled just before transforming.
* SecretLegacy: Pretty much what the siblings are thrown into in the beginning.
* StrictlyFormula
** Unbeatable monster of the week that requires a new HumongousMecha configuration, Stage 9
** Sixth Ranger appears, Stage 20
** Extra strong monster necessitates new mecha, Stage 31
** Hero who falls in tragic love, Stage 28
** Monster of the week who doesn’t want to hurt anyone, Stages 45 and 46
** Heroes fight while dressed as Samurai and Ninja, Stage 22
* SuperMode: The Legend Forms.
* SupervillainLair: The court of Infershia.
* ThemeMusicPowerUp: Common throughout the series, with notable examples in Stages 7, 38, 42, 46, 48, and 49.
* TransformationNameAnnouncement: ''[=MagiKing=], Number One!''
* TransformationTrinket: The Magi Phones, Hikaru's [=GripPhone=][[spoiler:, and Isamu's Fire [=WolzaPhone=]]].
* TwoGirlsToATeam: The main team consisted of two girls as usual, Pink and Blue, making Magiranger the fourth Sentai team to have a female Blue, as well as the second team where she was not the lone girl. Magi Mother joins her children towards the end of the series as well, serving as the team's third female member. Half of the Heavenly Saints were also women and all of them were in high positions of authority.
* VillainTeleportation: Provided by Wolzard and Meemy's magic, and in fact the only way for the vast majority of the Infershian forces to even reach the surface.
* WeaponOfChoice:
** MagicWand: The siblings' and their mother's [=MagiSticks=]. [[note]]It also doubles as the female Magirangers' default WeaponOfChoice, though Miyuki's is longer then her children's[[/note]]
** MorphWeapon: The brothers' [=MagiSticks=] are able to change into a different weapon for them to use:
*** Kai: [[CoolSword Sword]]
*** Tsubasa: [[AutomaticCrossbows Crossbow]]
*** Makito: [[AnAxeToGrind Axe]]
** RedBoxingGloves: The [=MagiPunch=].
** Hikaru: [[CoolGuns MagiLamp Buster]]
** [[spoiler:Isamu: [[CoolSword WolSabre]] and [[LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe Jagun Shield.]]]]
** Legend Magiranger: [[MagicStaff DialRod]]
*** Legend [=MagiYellow=]: [[{{BFG}} DialRod BowGun]]

!!Tropes specific to ''Magiranger'':

* AbsurdlySharpBlade: Shichijuurou of the four Hell Kings can set his sword to slice through intangible concepts like the bonds between family.
* AccidentalKidnapping: Hades God Toad had no idea that the "special soul" he'd stolen from the Flower Garden of Souls was [[spoiler:Miyuki.]]
* AccidentalPervert: Kai in one episode where Houka is attempting to help him on a date with his love interest, Yuka Yamazaki, ends up knocking him over, and causes him to see up his crush's skirt.
** [[TeamPet Smoky]] becomes one at the end of Stage 26 when he accidentally gropes Urara. Cue Urara's MegatonPunch.
* AchillesInHisTent: Following the [[spoiler:apparent]] death of their mother in Stage 2, Tsubasa and Houka abandon the fight against Infershia, pissing off Kai. They get their spirit back after hearing the message their mother left for the siblings in the Magic Room.
* ActionMom: Miyuki
* AgainstTheSettingSun: Inverted in Stage 6, played straight in Stage 36.
* AgonyBeam: N Ma pulls this on Kai in Stage 33.
* ALadyOnEachArm: Belbireji pulls this with Nai and Mare. They were not amused.
* AlienBlood: [[HellishHorse Valkyon]] bleeds green, as does the Hades God Wyvern.
* AllThereInTheManual: Victory General Branken was once a mere High Zobil, while the Hades Beastmen were humans who'd sold their souls to N Ma.
* AllTrollsAreDifferent: The Hades Beast Troll is of the big, rocky variety.
* AlmostKiss: Hikaru and Urara, again and again...
* AmplifierArtifact: The sword Hell Fang and the Jagun Shield, crafted from N Ma's fang and eye, respectively.
* AmusingInjuries: Nai and Mea suffer from this during the last arc of the series, as they are either stepped on by their new bosses, or swatted like flies when said bosses get angry. [[{{Immortality}} Since they can't die]], they get better.
* AndIMustScream: Depending on how you interpret what Urara says, the people who got turned into stone by the MOTW in Stage 4 were still fully aware of everything happening around them.
** Also Raigel, during the time he was turned into a mummy and sealed in a cave by Sungel.
* AngelicBeauty: Both [[OurAngelsAreDifferent Hikaru and Rin]] are regarded as especially attractive.
* AngstComa: Kai falls into one after getting his ass thoroughly kicked by Wolzard and having the [=MagiKing=] magic stolen from his family.
* AnimalThemedSuperbeing: The mythological variation.
* {{Animorphism}}: After [[spoiler:battling the traitorous Raigel]], Hikaru turns into a frog, only to turn back into a human after Urara kisses him 15 years later.
** In addition, Meemy, upon revival, turns Nai and Mea into centipedes to show them who's boss.
* AnAesop: The "courage equals magic" rule is typically expressed with one of these.
* ApocalypseHow: Each member of the Infershia Pantheon is capable of performing their own variation of a Class 4 or 5 apocalypse. [[spoiler:N Ma himself was on the verge of achieving a Class X-4 in the final episode, before Kai's [[AwesomeMoment timely intervention.]]]]
* ArbitrarySkepticism: In Stage 6, the siblings don't believe Kai when he tells him that Wolzard contacted him in his dreams for no better reason than to facilitate him going against Wolzard alone.
* ArcWords: "You may also create a new legend". Hikaru says this with regard to each sibling from stages 25 through 29, [[{{Foreshadow}} foreshadowing]] their obtainment of the [[SuperMode Legend Mode]].
* AttackItsWeakPoint: The key to defeating [[spoiler:Hades God Drake]]
* AttackReflector: Kai used this tactic against the MonsterOfTheWeek in Stage 4. But it was Urara who thought of the idea.
* AutomaticCrossbow: Vancuria uses a magic one twice, in Stage 9 and Stage 15.
* AvengingTheVillain: While Hades God Drake was already raring to go to the surface and rampage, the death of Hades God Gorgon makes him even more so. [[{{Irony}} Ironically]], it is [[AntiVillain Hades God Sphinx]] who callously dismisses his anger on Gorgon's behalf.
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:Hikaru, Isamu, Miyuki, and Sphinx.]] Vancuria is basically immortal and [[DeathIsCheap comes back every time she dies]].
* {{Badass}}: Wolzard, in '''spades'''.
** BadassBoast: Miyuki delivers one in a flashback in TheMovie, in order to convince [[MachikoSoga Magiel]] to let her become a magician.
-->'''Miyuki''': I am the Heavenly Saint Blagel's Wife! When it comes to courage, no one can outdo me!
** BadassCape: For the ''third'' time in Super Sentai history.
*** When the core team uses Legend mode, however, they lose the capes. Also, [=MagiMother=] and [[spoiler:Wolzard Fire]] don't wear them.
*** And on the villainous side, the Hades God Ifrit wears one.
** BadassFamily: Five siblings, their teacher[[note]]Even though ''much'' later, [[spoiler:Hikaru becomes their brother-in-law]][[/note]], [[spoiler:and their parents]].
** BadassFingersnap: Typically accompanies the declaration [[PreMortemOneLiner checkmate]].
** BadassGrandma: Not a literal example, but in addition to being the oldest of the Heavenly Saints, Snowgel also gave [[ActionMom Miyuki]] her magic powers, making her something of a metaphorical grandmother to the Magirangers.
** BadassLongRobe: Blagel wears a fur lined one in his human form. [[spoiler:This gets passed down to Kai in the WhereAreTheyNowEpilogue.]]
** HeartbrokenBadass: Tsubasa, [[spoiler:when Rei was turned to voice medicine]].
*** [[spoiler:Snowgel also counts, though the badass part isn't evident until later.]]
* BarehandedBladeBlock: Kai pulls one against Wolzard in the first episode.
* BarrierMaiden: Lunagel
* BadBoss: The Ten Hades Gods. Mostly to [[AmusingInjuries Vancuria, Who gets stepped on even by the nicer ones.]] [[spoiler: The exception is Sphinx, which is probably a big part of the reason [[BackFromTheDead they revive her after she's killed by Dagon.]]]]
* BashBrothers: Not surprising considering the heroes are siblings, but there's a villainous example in Hades Gods Drake and Slepnir, [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast who are collectively known as]] [[RedBaron The Two UltimateGods.]]
* BatmanGambit: Meemy pulls one off in Stage 33, provoking [=MagiShine=] to use Travelion's [[KillItWithFire Destruction Fire Reverse Spray]] against him so he can drain that power to create the [[HybridMonster Gestalt Hades Beast Chimera]].
* BattleAmongstTheFlames: Kai creates this effect during the FinalBattle against N Ma.
* BeamOWar: Snowgel vs. Hades God Drake.
* BeamSpam: Hikaru tends to pull these, especially when in his [[OneWingedAngel Heavenly Saint form]].
* BigDamnHeroes: [=MagiMother=], [=MagiShine=], and [[spoiler:[=WolzardFire=]]], at various points throughout the series.
* BigFancyHouse: The Ozu residence, complete with hidden magic room.

* BlessedWithSuck: Invoked by Nai and Mare, who turned a group of people into vampires so that they could be killed by sunlight.
* BloodFromTheMouth: Hades God Wyvern [[spoiler: following his fight against Wolzard]].
* BloodKnight: Hades God Drake. Guy was itching for a fight, he even went off before it was his turn to take on [=MagiShine=].
* BookEnds: The first scene of the family is everyone eating together, minus Kai who was late getting back. The same goes for the final scene, [[spoiler: with the addition of Hikaru as Urara's husband and Isamu restored to the family.]]
* BodyHorror: [[BigBad N Ma]] emergence from [[SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan Titan's body]] begins with his tentacles bursting out of his body.

* BreakingTheFourthWall: [[MachikoSoga Magiel]] addresses the audience directly near the end of TheMovie, and near the end of the series itself.
* BreatherEpisode: After the very intense psychological battle against the Hades God Cyclops, the focus of the fight against the Hades God Gorgon is on a FreakyFridayFlip between Kai and Houka which is mostly played for laughs.
* BrickJoke: During one Omake segment, [[TeamPet Mandora Boy]] swears revenge upon [[TeamPet Smoky]]. In a later Omake segment, he succeeds.
** In Stage 5, Houka attempts to [[VoluntaryShapeshifting disguise herself as a post box]], and when Kai sees through her, she responds "I am just an ordinary post box]]. She does the same thing in Stage 39, Kai sees through her disguise again, and she responds "As before, I am just an ordinary post box."

* CatchAndReturn: Tsubasa thoroughly stomped Wolzard in Kai's dream in Stage 7, starting with a Hadouken-style return.
* CellPhonesAreUseless: On two separate occasions the Magirangers find themselves in a PocketDimension where their [=MagiPhones=] will not work.

* ChekhovsBoomerang: Urara's [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes phobia of frogs]] is introduced in Stage 19, plays a significant part in Stage 20, and returns in Stage 43.
* ChekhovsGun: Many examples throughout the series, [[spoiler:with the ice-bolt in Wolzard's armor after he defeats Magi Mother being among the most important.]]

* ChekhovMIA: Raigel and Sungel.
* ChekhovsSkill: In Stage 9, Kai's ability to teleport objects proves key to befriending Varikion. Later on, [[DualWielding the Fatal Blade stance]] shown to him by [[spoiler:Blagel]] in Stage 48 shows its worth in Stage 49.
* ChessMotif: The Magirangers turn into chess pieces while controlling [=MagiKing=], and later [=MagiLegend=]. Notably, not even the Magirangers know why this happens, [[HandWave it's just magic.]]
* ChestBlaster: Travelion has one that can either absorb the enemy, or spew fire at them.
* ClimacticBattleResurrection: [[spoiler: Vancuria extends her immortality to Sphinx, Sungel, and Blagel to revive them for the final battle as part of her HeelFaceTurn.]]

* ColdSniper: Cyclops, one of the Hades Gods.

* ComicallyMissingThePoint: In Stage 9, Kai uses his magic to finish [[TheSmartGuy Tsubasa's]] 'ship in a bottle' and then remove it from the bottle. [[IdiotHero He has no idea why Makito smacked him on Tsubasa's behalf.]]

** The Mecha fight between [=MagiKing=] and Belbireji in Stage 24 is one of the more notable examples of a heroic beatdown.

** ShockAndAwe: Tsubasa.

** {{Lunacy}}: Rin/Lunagel, though only thematic and not personality-wise.
** AnIcePerson: [[spoiler:Snowgel and Miyuki (though not personality-wise in the latter's case).]]
* EliteMooks: High Zobils to the Zobils, the Solitary Confinement beasts to the regular Hades Beasts, the Hades Beastmen Hellish Kings to the regular Hades Beastmen.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Kai's first scene establishes both his good-hearted nature, and his reckless impulsiveness.
* EverythingsBetterWithSparkles: Both Rin and Hikaru's transformation sequences make extensive use of sparkles, and the Magi Shine suit is covered in glitter to make it, well, sparkle.
* EveryoneJoinTheParty: In the second half of the final battle, every significant supporting character, [[spoiler:including the recently [[HeelFaceTurn heel face turned Sphinx and Vancuria]],]] shows up to help out.
* EvilCanNotComprehendGood: The Hades Gods simply do not understand the concept of bonds and courage against impossible odds. [[spoiler: Titan and Sphinx, along with Vancuria, try to figure it out, resulting in their HeelFaceTurn.]]
* EvilCounterpart: Groom Do Bridon acts and fights like an evil version of Kai; the clincher is their mutual desire for Yuka Yamazaki.

* FantasyPantheon: The Infershia Pantheon and the Heavenly Saints of Magitopia.
* FightingFromTheInside: Houka, [[spoiler:Wolzard]]
* FigureItOutYourself: In stage 41, Snowgel tells Hikaru/Sungel that he must learn an important lesson from [[IdiotHero Kai]], and refuses to tell either of them what that lesson is on the grounds that Hikaru has to, well...
* FinalSpeech: Meemy delivers an ominous one regarding the imminent awakening of the [[OhCrap Infershia Pantheon.]]
* FinishingMove: The Magirangers do not gain a set finishing move until [[MidSeasonUpgrade they gain their]] [[SuperMode Legend Modes]]
* FishOutOfWater: Played with in Stage 26; when food at a restaurant suddenly turns to dust, [[OurAngelsAreDifferent Hikaru]] briefly asks if that was supposed to happen before immediately (and correctly) suspecting [[TheTrickster Smoky]].
* FleetingDemographicRule: The last Super Sentai to to have a BadassFamily team was ''Series/RescueSentaiGoGoFive'' in 1999, six years earlier.
* FlamingSword: While both Kai and [[spoiler:Blagel]] make use of this, the most notable example is with [=FireKaiser=], who's weapon is actually set on fire.
* {{Flashback}}: Mostly used to showcase Miyuki before the start of the show.
* FluffyCloudHeaven: Magitopia.
* FlungClothing: On occasion the Magirangers will put on their cloaks, simply to toss them away [[RuleOfCool dramatically]] before transforming.

* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Houka and Makito.
* FoodPorn: The sushi served in Stage 26 looks absolutely delicious.

* FourIsDeath: The Four Hell Kings, most powerful of the Hades Beastmen.
* FragileSpeedster: Hades God Wyvern. Said to be the fastest by their leader, Dagon, but proves to be really bad at taking hits. [[spoiler: Wolzard demonstrates this twice, the second time leading to Wyvern's death.]]
* FreakyFridayFlip: Kai and Houka. HilarityEnsues when Kai finds out that Houka had 15 dates that day. His solution? [[spoiler:Breaking up with them all at once!]]
* FriendOrIdolDecision: A mild example in Stage 14, Kai has to choose between going on his date with [[SchoolIdol Yuka Yamazaki]], or finishing his TrainingFromHell under Tsubasa to face the monster of the week.
* FromMyOwnPersonalGarden: A heroic example played for mild laughs, Makito's "big brother salad" is made with vegetables he grows himself.
* FunctionalMagic: A combination of inherent gift (Only heavenly saints, those descended from heavenly saints, or those chosen by heavenly saints can wield magic), rule magic (good magicians must have courage, evil magicians must swear themselves to N Ma), and device magic (most magicians use phones or other tools to assist in their spell casting).
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: During Stage 13, as Makito and Urara argue about money woes in the foreground, Tsubasa chases Kai with a broom in the background while Kai uses Mandora Boy as a shield.
* GagSub: TheMovie, re-imagined as [[http://www.veoh.com/browse/videos/category/comedy/watch/v158356834GaeCwxr Steedergon Fury IGNITES!!]]
* GatlingGood: The Exploding Turret Gun of Destruction, featured in Stage 16.
* GenerationXerox: [[MachikoSoga Magiel]] notes that the Magirangers are just like their parents.
** More specifically, Kai expressly takes after their father, while Urara takes after their mother.
* GenieInABottle: Smoky, a [[MegaNeko cat-djinn]] in a lamp.
* GeniusLoci: The Heavenly Saint Chronogel transfered his being into a mountain.
* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: When Vancuria descends down into Infershia in the first episode, the tunnel she passes through has a decidedly [[VaginaDentata unusual appearance due to the milling around of the zobils]].
** The whole FreakyFridayFlip debacle.
-->'''Houka''' (in Kai's body, "feeling around"): "Nothing, nothing, ''something''..."
-->'''Kai''' (following suit): "Something, sorta something, ''nothing''!"
-->'''Houka''': (ComicallyMissingThePoint) "Hey, what do you mean with 'sorta something'?!"
-->'''Kai''': "If it's small, it's small!"
** Near the end of Stage 8, Urara tells Kai not to hide magazines under his bed. He chokes on the juice he was drinking.
* GiantMook: The Hades Beast Troll, which is larger than the average monster of the week, but smaller than a giant monster.
* GirlsNightOutEpisode: Stage 8, complete with the girls having to rescue the boys.
* {{Golem}}: The Hades Machine Beast Golem, which required a soul over 300 years old to fuel, [[spoiler:much to Bururatesu's horror.]]
** [=MagiShine=]'s [[CoolTrain Travel]][[TransformingMecha ion]] can also be considered one.
* GossipyHens: Early episodes feature them discussing rumors concerning the latest monster attacks.
* GratuitousEnglish: Hikaru's [=MagiTickets=] have English text on them.
** In Stage 26, when Nai and Mea start singing, Meemy lets out a very shrill "''Shut up!''"
* GreatOffscreenWar: The much spoken of war between Magitopia and Infershia in the past; we the viewers only get to see bits and pieces of the last battle.
* GrievousHarmWithABody: In stage 25, Kai throws the MonsterOfTheWeek at Meemy, while unmorphed and with his courage stolen from him.
* GripingAboutGremlins: The first Hades Beastman to be pitted against the Magirangers is Garim the Gremlin.
* HalfHumanHybrid: Underplayed, but all five siblings are half-human, half-Heavenly Saint.

* HarpingOnAboutHarpies: Peewee Harpy.
* HaveYouTriedNotBeingAMonster: Titan.
* HealingPotion: Tsubasa brews these on occasion.
* HeavenAndHell: Magitopia and Infershia.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:Sphinx, Titan and Vancuria.]]
* HellGate: The Hades Gate.
* HeroicBSOD: Tsubasa, of all people, has one in Stage 38, after Cyclops pops caps on three of his siblings, leaving only him and Kai left to try to escape him. At one point, he gives up on running away because he couldn't uphold the promise he had made to Makito, to stand in for them when he was out. He only gets back on his feet and devises a [[OutGambitted plan]] to beat Cyclops when Kai pulls a GetAHoldOfYourselfMan on him.
** However this pales in comparison to the [[HeroicBSOD Mass BSOD]] that all five siblings have when [[spoiler: [[IfICantHaveYou Hades God Toad seemingly murders their comatose Mother in front of them because he doesn't want them to have her]]]] It's enough to completely break their Magi-legend fusion.
* HeroicResolve: The source of power that drives the magic used by the Magirangers.
* HiddenDepths: All the main characters are full of them.
* HighHeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: Vancuria and Sphinx]]
* HonestAxe: In the Magi Red VS Magi Shine Special.
* HopeSpot: At the end of Stage 46, it appears that everyone's efforts to get [[HeelFaceTurn Titan]] to the Lake of Slumber so that [[EldritchAbomination N Ma]] can't be reborn will succeed. Then [[GodOfEvil Dagon]] shows up and stabs Titan through the gut, bringing about [[FromBadToWorse N Ma's rebirth]].
** And then in Stage 48, Kai leads his siblings to defeat Hades God Sleipnir by following his father's example. [[spoiler:Cue N Ma arriving and casually tossing down Blagel's and Hikaru's corpses.]]
* HopeSproutsEternal: During the final episode [[spoiler:a single flower is all that remains in N Ma's future world]]
* HostageForMacGuffin: Urara is taken hostage in Stage 22, with Hikaru's Travelion [=MagiTicket=] as the [=MacGuffin=].
* HotBlooded: Kai, [[AstonishinglyAppropriateAppearance probaly owing to]] [[PlayingWithFire his element]].
** And Makito, especially [[BigBrotherInstinct when his siblings are concerned]].
* HouseWife: Miyuki became this after [[RetiredBadass retiring from the war]].
* HulksCooldownHugCorollary: In Stage 45. Makito attacks Titan just as Houka is befriending him. Somewhat subverted in which Titan does not go on a rampage because of this.
* HumanShield: Vancuria uses [[spoiler:Houka]] as one.
* HumiliationConga: Kai suffers from this during Stage 25 after his courage is stolen.
* HybridMonster: The Gestalt Hades Beastman Chimera, created from the souls of all 1000 Hades Beastmen than Blagel had sealed away.
* HypnotizeThePrincess: Yamazaki is subjected to this in the movie.
* HypnoTrinket: The Puppet Ring which facilitated the above trope, fueled by countless human souls.
* IdiosyncraticEpisodeNaming: Each episode is called "Stage", with a magic spell following the title.
* IdolSinger: Rei, [[spoiler:Before she was killed by Neries.]]
* IfItSwimsItFlies: Averted by [=MagiMermaid=]; it doesn't fly, and it can freely switch between legs and a tail.
* IHaveYouNowMyPretty: Groom Do Bridon to Yamazaki
* IKnowMaddenKombat: The Majin Shoot is pulled off that effectively mainly due to Kai being a soccer player.
* ImpossibleThief: Gaston the Thief
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Hikaru with his [=MagiLamp=] Buster.
* IncrediblyLamePun: The constant use of ''maji'', meaning serious, by the ''Magi''rangers.
* IndyPloy: Hikaru learns an aesop about using these.
* IneffectualLoner: Lunagel; it didn't help that Wolzard had spent the past four episodes powering up before the fight.
** Also, Shichijuurou of the four Hell Kings turns Kai, Tsubasa, Houka, and Urara into this by severing their familial bonds. Funny about this is that Kai is the only one that does not move out of the Ozu house because, being underage, he cannot purchase his own home.
* InMediasRes: The start of TheMovie
* InstantAwesomeJustAddDragons: Both the [=MagiDragon=] and the Hades God Drake.
* InstantExpert: Upon first receiving their powers from their mother, the Magirangers pretty much know exactly how they work.
* InstantRunes: Averted in Stage 20, when the Monster of the week has to draw key runes at several key points in the city, otherwise played straight.
* InsubstantialIngredients: One potion required, among other things, the honey of a queen bee that gathers no honey.
* InterspeciesRomance: [[spoiler:The siblings' father, Isamu, is a Heavenly Saint, and their mother is just a human magician.]]

* {{Invisibility}}: Warning, requires the [[NiceHat Magi Hat]] and [[GlamourFailure you can still be seen in mirrors.]]
* IronicEcho: [[spoiler:Wolzard repeating Blagel's words after Makito invokes them in an RousingSpeech.]]
* ISurrenderSuckers: Garim the Hades Beastman Gremlin pulls this to sneak in an attack on the [=MagiRangers=]
** Meemy later tries this against Sungel and Lunagel, but they were much too GenreSavvy for it to work.
* ItOnlyWorksOnce: Many spells are dropped after their debut, but notably, Makito's Rock Armor is defeated ''the very first time'' it's used, and is never spoken of again.
** Averted just as often, both with staple spells and the more specialized ones.
* ItsNotYouItsMyEnemies: [[spoiler:Hikaru rejected Urara at first because he had a glimpse of his future and saw he was going to die.]]
* ItsPersonal: Lunagel took Raigel's betrayal very, very seriously.
* ItWasADarkAndStormyNight: When Sungel confronts Raigel after his betrayal.
* IWillOnlySlowYoudown: Kai says this to his siblings in Stage 38, after he has been shot in the leg by [[ColdSniper Hades God Cyclops]].
* JapanesePronouns: When performing their roll calls, the Magirangers use "ware".
* JapaneseSiblingTerminology: Extensively used, as the core five are all siblings.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Tsubasa
* JourneyToTheCenterOfTheMind: Tsubasa performs one to save Kai from his AngstComa in Stage 7.
* {{Kawaiiko}}: Houka, Nai, Mea.
* KickTheDog: Hades God Wyvern normally [[PetTheDog dotes on Nai and Mea like treasured pets]], but when he gets mad, they are the first to suffer his wrath.
* KingMook: Hades Beast Stone Troll, which is a regular troll infused with Magi King magic.
* LargeAndInCharge: Heavenly Saint Magiel, who puts the Big in BigGood...but [[OhCrap is herself dwarfed by the Infershia Gods]].
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Rin.
** One-time case: Houka, when she stumbled upon the MacGuffin and the bad guys found this to be the best way to prevent her from telling. [[spoiler:She even [[FromBadToWorse RE-loses any new memories]] at the end of each hour.]]
* {{Leitmotif}}: Peace in Heaven, Miyuki's theme and "The Prologue of Magitopia", according to [[MrExposition Mandora Boy]]
* LetsFightLikeGentlemen: Tsubasa decides the only way to counter a boxing monster is with boxing, everyone agrees.
** Tsubasa also pulls this against the Hades God Cyclops, with epic results.
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: Urara and Houka.
* LineOfSightName: Kai dubs the [[LaserGuidedAmnesia amnesiac]] Lunagel Rin, after the bell she wore on her bracelet.
* LockedOutOfTheFight: Lunagel traps the Magirangers in a PocketDimension so that she can fight Wolzard on her own.
* LovableCoward: Kai becomes one when [[ImpossibleThief Gaston the Thief]] steals his courage.
* LoveConfession: Kai confesses his love to Yuka in Stage 5, only to be turned down in favor of [[LovesMyAlterEgo [=MagiRed=].]] Urara and Hikaru confess their feelings to each other in Stage 47, [[FourthDateMarriage and marry shortly thereafter]].
* LovesMyAlterEgo: Hilariously done with Kai and Yuka. [[spoiler:Subverted starting with the movie halfway through the series, in which she figures it all out, but [[SecretSecretKeeper never outright tells him that she knows]].]]
* LukeIAmYourFather: [[spoiler:Wolzard]].
* MagicAIsMagicA: This show does a fantastic job of making sure each and every magic spell is consistent in design, intent, and casting, even near the end of the series when [[spoiler:the heroes are getting so powerful that they start crossing spell tiers]]. The show doesn't tend to go over this in detail though; if you want to see how coherent the spell system is, [[AllThereInTheManual you're going to have to do some research]].
** To give a quick summary, the ten buttons on the Magiphone each have a specific function, and spells are made by combining them, and the series sticks with this. For example, with the transformation call Maaji Maji Majiro, the words mean (in order) "Transform", "Warrior", "Body".
* MagicAndPowers: Each of the Ozu siblings have their own unique magic abilities.
** AlchemyIsMagic: Kai
** ThePowerOfCreation: Tsubasa
** FortuneTeller: Urara
** VoluntaryShapeshifting: Houka
** GreenThumb: Makito
* MagicalIncantation: Each spell in the series is constructed from these. The Magirangers have one set of words, The Heavenly Saints another, and Meemy and Wolzard each have their own with some crossover.
* MagicKnight: Basically what all the Rangers here are.
* MagicMirror: Two examples, one being a device to alert the Magirangers to Infershia's attacks, and the other was created by Kai on the spot to reflect a MOTW's attack back at it.
* MagicMusic: The Hades Beast Manticore creates music with its body to compel its victims to dance until they are exhausted, and then into its mouth.
** Nai and Mare also do this to lull their victims into a daze, allowing them to convert them into vampires.
* MagicWand: In the shape of cellphones.
* MassiveNumberedSiblings: At the low end of this trope, there are five Ozu siblings.
* MasterApprenticeChain: Blagel was Hikaru's mentor, and he in turn becomes the mentor for the Magirangers.
* MasterOfIllusion: Belbireji the Incubus specializes in this, while Hades God Gorgon dabbles in it.
* MeaningfulName: Quite a lot, in fact. They can also double as ThemeNaming.
** The whole Ozu family, for one thing.
*** "Kai" means "first" or "leader," and it's written with the Japanese character for "fire", of course his leadership skill is somewhat [[IdiotHero poor]].
*** Tsubasa means "wings"; his Majin form is the Garuda, a mythological bird.
*** Urara's name means "bright" and also a pun on "Uranai"; "fortune-telling," which happens to be her talent.
*** Houka, TheChick of the group, means "fragrance."
*** Makito, an earth magic user as well as a farmer[[note]]Turns out his farm is the sole source of income for that BigFancyHouse, in fact[[/note]], means "sower." "Maki" refers to "firewood," linking him to [[GreenThumb his element]].
*** Finally, take the first syllable of each sibling's name in order of birth[[note]]'''Ma'''kito, '''Ho'''uka, '''U'''rara, '''Tsu'''basa, '''Kai'''[[/note]] and you get "''Mahoutsukai''"[[note]]Magician[[/note]].
*** And their mother? Mi'''yuki'''[[note]]Snow[[/note]].
*** They are all technically "Ozu no Mahotsukai"; "Wizard(s) of Oz."
*** Even Kai's love interest Yuka Yamazaki gets in on it; her name roughly means "Gentle flower on the mountain top", which is how Kai describes her when she first appears.
** And of course, the Heavenly Saints.
*** '''Mag'''iel, the arch-saint of all magic
*** '''Sun'''gel and '''Hikaru''' both have something to do with light.
*** '''Luna'''gel is obviously the Heavenly Saint of the Moon.
*** '''Rai'''gel, the Heavenly Saint of Lightning[[note]]''rai'' is an alternate reading of the kanji ''ikazuchi'', which means "thunder"[[/note]].
*** '''Snow'''gel, the Heavenly Saint of Ice.
*** '''Chrono'''gel, the Heavenly Saint of Time.
*** [[spoiler:Isamu's Saint name is '''Bla'''gel, the Blazing Fire Heavenly Saint. Furthermore, Isamu means "Bravery", and he's universally acknowledged as the bravest of the Heavenly Saints.]]
** Hell, even the villain of TheMovie gets in on this. His desire is to marry Yamazaki, and his name is Groom Do Bridon.
* MeaningfulRename: The Heavenly Saint Raigel renames himself as the Dark Priest Memmy upon being revived by N Ma.
* MerlinAndNimue: Hikaru and Urara.
* MeteorMove: Hikaru's Prominence Drop
* MindControlEyes: Those under Vancuria's control gain vertical slits in their eyes.
* MindRape: The Hades God Cyclops pulls the mundane version on Tsubasa, N Ma the supernatural variety on [[spoiler:Magi Shine]]
* MomentKiller: Hikaru and Urara were interrupted twice. One when the siblings disturbed their alone-time in one episode and the other when Lunagel [[spoiler:interrupts their wedding kiss]] to tell them that [[spoiler:N Ma has destroyed Magitopia.]]
* MonsterMash: The leaders of Infershia follow this general motif.
* MoodWhiplash
* MookCarryover: Vancuria/ Nai and Mea last through all three arcs. [[JustifiedTrope Justified on account of their]] {{Immortality}}. [[spoiler: In fact if they didn't, they likely would have never had their HeelFaceTurn]].
* {{Motif}}: [[CaptainObvious Magic]], as well as circus acts, legends, prophecies, and heaven vs. hell. Parallels between family issues and the war with Infershia are also frequent.
* MundaneUtility: Miyuki, after using magic to kill a troll, then uses it to pour tea and make a cake.
** Later on, Houka uses her [=MagiPhone=] to schedule dates for herself.
* MusicalAssassin: The Monster Siren Neries uses her voice to kill, though she has to use the spirit of a deceased pop singer [[spoiler:for whom Tsubasa falls in love]] to do the job for her.
* MySisterIsOffLimits: Makito does NOT approve of his sister rushing into marriage, and doesn't care what her excuses may be.
* MythologyGag: Sungel/Hikaru is a special ranger who wears dark blue (OK, mainly gold, but still) and happens to love Urara who is the female blue ranger. In ''Series/NinpuuSentaiHurricaneger'', Isshuu was a special ranger who wore dark blue and happened to love Nanami who was the female blue ranger.
** Also, the ninja MonsterOfTheWeek is described in a flashback as [[Series/NinpuuSentaiHurricaneger "Unknown to the people, unknown to the world..."]]
** And then there's the way [=MagiKing=] gets assembled, with [=MagiTaurus=] serving as the core that gets armored up by the other mechs, not unlike [[Series/GoseiSentaiDairanger [=DaiRenOh=]]]. Plus, the four non-red mechs combine into [=MagiDragon=] which can be [[DragonRider used as a mount by]] [=MagiPhoenix], similar to how Ryou's [=RyuSeiOh=] rides the Heavenly Chi Palace.
** In the movie, the siblings perform the [[CombinationAttack Five Fantastic Fire]] technique, in which they leap into the air and transform into a giant fire bird. The [[Series/ChoujinSentaiJetman Jetman team]] uses a very similar attack in the penultimate episode of their series.
** The Saint Kaiser resembles a non-evil version of the first form of [[Series/KyoryuSentaiZyuranger Dora Talos]]. Highly appropriate, considering that BigGood Magiel is played by the same actress as Zyuranger's primary BigBad. This particular nod even carries over to the Franchise/PowerRangers adaptation.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: The Beast Emperor/Absolute God N Ma.
** Also, the Infershia Pantheon, which serves N Ma directly.
* {{Narm}}: In-universe example; in flashback it is revealed that Kai was mauled by a bear that had escaped from the zoo while Tsubasa was out hanging with his friends, and when he finds out, his first response is to laugh at the absurdity of it all. Makito did not think this was funny. [[DudeNotFunny At all.]]
* NeverSayDie: Averted. See WhatDoYouMeanItsForKids.
* NiceHat: Not a ''real'' hat, but [=MagiKing=]'s wizard-hat is a pretty cool headpiece.
** Travelion also has a NiceHat in the form of a turban.
* NinjaPirateRobotZombie: In one episode the MonsterOfTheWeek is a ninja and the [[ZombieMooks Zobiru]] working under him are ninja-themed as well.
* NewPowersAsThePlotDemands: Justified, as the Magirangers earn their spells through their [[HeroicResolve Courage]] from the Heavenly Saints who watch over them.
* NoblewomansLaugh: Kai performs one while in Houka's body. Note that Houka herself never does this.
* NonActionGuy: Mandora Boy.
* NoBodyLeftBehind: Miyuki, [[spoiler:though that's because she didn't actually die]], the victims of the [[BlackSpot Red Skull Curse]] in stage 15.
* NoRangeLikePointBlankRange: Groom Do Bridon does this against Magi Shine, twice.
** [=MagiShine=] later pulls this off against the Hades God Ifrit, [[BattleCouple with help from Urara]].
** And in the finale, the Hades God Sphinx does this against [[spoiler:Hades God Dagon.]]
* NoOntologicalInertia: Averted in Stages 25 and 27, where a separate spell is needed to undo the damage wrought by the MonsterOfTheWeek.
* NotDistractedByTheSexy: [[ElegantGothicLolita Nai and Mare]] attempt to use their ZettaiRyouiki against Kai and Makito. They respond by invoking their love interests.
* NotQuiteDead: [[spoiler:Isamu, Miyuki and Raigel.]]
** Also, Vancuria at the end of Stage 12 (refer to BackFromTheDead earlier).
* NotWhatItLooksLike: While trying to find the temple in Houka's memory, Urara mistakes Hikaru of kissing Houka and practically zoomed to Kyoto and almost [[DynamicEntry drop kicked]] Hikaru for it.
* ObviouslyEvil: Subverted, as Blagel's Heavenly Saint form is reminiscent of most popular depictions of Satan, while [[TheStarscream Raigel]] looks very similar to the obviously holy Sungel.
* OcularGushers: Urara has these shortly after obtaining her [[SuperMode Legend Mode]] powers.
* OfficialCouple: [[spoiler:Hikaru and Urara get married at the near finale.]]
** [[spoiler:Isamu and Miyuki.]]
* OhCrap: Right from the first episode, when Wolzard transforms into [[OurCentaursAreDifferent [=WolKentauros=]]] while our heroes have yet to gain their giant forms.
* {{Omake}}: During which Mandora Boy (usually) talks about whatever new spell was introduced in the episode, and frequently suffers some manner of comic hijinks.
** Same goes for Nai and Mare, if the spell is used by the enemies.
* OminousOperaCape: Both Meemy and [[TheMovie Groom Do Bridon]] wear this variety of cape.
* OneHitKill: Hades God Sphinx likes to pull these off with her {{BFG}}
* OneMillionBC: The [[PocketDimension Marudeyona World]] that [[MentorArchetype Hikaru]] sent everyone to to help Makito get over his funk in Stage 21.
* OneWingedAngel: A rare heroic example, with the core Magirangers ability to transform into the Majins, while Sungel and Blagel have their Heavenly Saint forms.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: N Ma spends most of the series sealed away. [[spoiler:Once the seal is finally broken, he wastes no time in laying waste to the heavens and earth.]]
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: They're not called angels, and they don't have wings, but otherwise, the Heavenly Saints are classic biblical angels.
* OurGargoylesRock: The Demon Gate Guard Gargoyle.
* OurGhostsAreDifferent: [[spoiler:Rei]] is trapped in the world of the living by a powerful monster.
* OurGhoulsAreCreepier: The Solitary Confinement Beast Ghoul, who can stretch his arms great distances and turn his fists giant.
* OurGodsAreGreater: The Infershia Pantheon is extremely powerful, but is bound by the Dark Precepts, preventing its members from attacking the surface all at once.
* OurMonstersAreWeird: The Hades Beast Worm is a mass of giant worms shaped like a hydra...which fires laser beams.
* OurZombiesAreDifferent: The Zobils.
* OutOfSightOutOfMind: On multiple occasions the Magirangers will hit the enemy with a powerful attack that sends them flying off camera, and then they act as though the battle was already won. The most notable example of this is [[spoiler: the final battle against N Ma.]]
* OutOfTheInferno: Well, more like ''through the inferno''; [[TheMovie Groom Do Bridon]] leaps through an explosion to get an attack off against [=MagiShine=]
* PainfullySlowProjectile: Hades God Cyclop's bullets are generally slow enough for the [=MagiRangers=] to block and deflect. [[JustifiedTrope then again, by that point they are among the most powerful and magical beings in the world.]]
* PaperFanOfDoom: Houka turns into one in Stage 45 to knock some sense into Makito.
* ParentalAbandonment: The siblings' mom dies in the first episode and the dad is considered dead. This causes Makito and Urara to experience dual PromotionToParent.
** [[spoiler:Their father turned out to be the BrainwashedAndCrazy [[TheDragon Dragon]], while their mother is actually NotQuiteDead.]]
* PaletteSwap: The [=WolKaiser=], [=BraveKaiser=], and [=SaintKaiser=], with a few decal differences between them.
* PastelChalkedFreezeFrame: Pulled off spectacularly with each hit in "''[[CombinationAttack Majin Shoot]]''".
* PensieveFlashback: Hikaru does a series of these in Stage 35 to help determine [[spoiler:whether or not Miyuki really is alive.]]
* PepperSneeze: Houka turns into a giant salt and pepper shaker in Stage 2 to force a monster to sneeze out Kai, Makito, and Urara.
* PersonalityPowers: There's even a song in Stage 3 sung by Mandora Boy about how the Magirangers elemental powers and personalities match, as well as their rolls in the FiveManBand.
* PetTheDog: Hades God Wyvern generally dotes on Nai and Mea like beloved pets. [[spoiler:This makes his KickTheDog moments all the harsher.]]
* PhlebotinumOverload: [[spoiler:How N Ma is defeated.]]
* PhysicalHell: Infershia
* PlayingPossum: [[TheMovie Groom Do Bridon]] uses this to get in an attack against [=MagiShine=].
* PocketDimension: The Marudeyona worlds.
* PokemonSpeak: Solitary Confinement Hades Beast Ogre engages in this.
* PowerAtAPrice: The Ozu siblings could become Heavenly Saints themselves, but would lose all memory of their human existences in the process.
* PowerIncontinence: In Stage 31, the Ozu siblings experience an overflow of power in their civilian forms as a side effect of their unrestrained [[SuperMode Legend Modes]].
* PowerOfLove: Invoked by [[TeamDad Makito]] in front of [[LoveInterest Eriko]]. [[DefrostingIceQueen She is not impressed.]]
** Played straight in Stage 28, where Tsubasa's love for Rei allows him to [[spoiler:free her soul from the Hell King Neries and let her move on to the afterlife.]]
* PrecursorHeroes: Blagel, Sungel, and Lunagel. Also Raigel, [[spoiler:before he betrayed the first three]].

* PureMagicBeing: The Heavenly Saints.
* QuirkyHousehold: The siblings belong to one.

** Later, Hikaru has to undergo a dangerous ordeal to save Tsubasa from a curse.
* ReallyGetsAround: Houka. In case you wonder, she's gone as far as to juggle with at least 15 boyfriends at a time.
--> Houka: "Aww, she gets to wear a wedding dress..."
-->Kai: "You've worn a wedding dress too once."
-->Tsubasa: "And there will be many more times."
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Hikaru and the other Heavenly Saints are implied to be at least a whole lot older.
* RedBaron: The four Hell Kings are introduced with these by [[{{Badass}} Wolzard]]
** Later on, [[TomesOfProphecyAndFate the book of prophecy]] applies this sort of appellation to every Hades Beast and Hades Beastman.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Inverted and subverted with Bullrates the Kobold; a side-effect of a spell that Meemy casts on him to restore his youthful strength was to turn his red eyes white, and while he does become much more powerful, [[CurbStompBattle he is still effortlessly defeated]] [[SuperMode by the Magirangers Legend Mode.]] [[spoiler:[[MagnificentBastard This was exactly what Meemy wanted all along as this let him use Bullrates's soul to fuel the Hades Beast Machine Golem.]]]]
* RedOniBlueOni: Kai and Tsubasa. The latter's personal color does not match this trope, but his personality does.
* RedSkyTakeWarning: A variation; if the sky suddenly turns dark and an aurora appears, that means a Hades God is about to administer a [[ApocalypseHow Divine Punishment]].
* RedemptionDemotion: [[spoiler:Hades God Titan]] seems to lose much of his power following his HeelFaceTurn. Justified, [[spoiler:as he is having to restrain N Ma's soul within himself, which was specifically noted to weaken Blagel when he did the same thing.]]

* RevealingSkill: Inverted, [[spoiler:Houka was too considerate and skilled while under Vancuria's control.]]
* RiddlingSphinx: In Stage 46, the Hades God Sphinx questions the Magirangers on how they've been able to keep defeating the Hades Gods despite the power gap between them.
* RightHandVersusLeftHand: Wolzard could have killed the Magirangers in Stage 9 if Branken hadn't chosen then to have Vancuria make an assassination attempt against him right then.
* RingOfPower: The Oath Rings, passed down from the Legendary Magicians to the Magirangers through Sungel. [[spoiler:They allow the Magirangers to prove to Snowgel that they are worthy of the [[SuperMode Legend Mode]].]]
* RobeAndWizardHat: Though most of the time, the [=MagiRangers=] just wear the robe, and just so they can dramatically throw it off just before entering battle.
* {{Roboteching}}: Hikaru can control the path of his shots through will alone.
* RomanceInducingSmudge: Stage 36 has one between Urara and Hikaru.
* SadisticChoice: To escape Lunagel's pocket dimension, one of the Magirangers has to willingly enter a column of fire and stay there. [[spoiler:Subverted, she is in truth too kind for a real sadistic choice, so just diving in is enough to save everyone.]]
* SayMyName: [[TheMovie YAMAZAKI-SAN!]]
* ScrewDestiny: The Magirangers are told in Stage 36 that if they try to fight back against the Infershia Pantheon, it will result in the destruction of the surface world and Magitopia. [[spoiler:It does, but they fix it in short order.]]
* SdrawkcabName: Neries from Act 28, who is a Siren (which is pronounced ''seiren'' in Japanese).
* SealedArmyInACan: The whole of Infershia, [[TheMovie Groom Do Bridon's soul berseker army]].
* SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan: [[spoiler:After the second time Blagel seals N Ma, he takes his soul within his body to make sure he can't revive again.]]
* SecretIdentity: It isn't even apparent that this is in effect until Stage 5, seemingly for the sole purpose of creating a LovesMyAlterEgo scenario between Kai, [=MagiRed=], and Yuka Yamazaki.
* SecretWar: The great battle between Magitopia and Infershia 15 years ago happened without any humans being aware of it, except for Miyuki who was married to Blagel.

* SexyMentor: Hikaru is the Ozu siblings' teacher and [[spoiler:did end up with Urara]].

* ShirtlessScene: The start of Stage 10.
* ShoutOut: In Stage 2, when Houka and Tsubasa entered the secret room in their house, they [[Literature/HarryPotter exited from a fireplace]]. As if it can't get enough, there was also a blinking portrait, and they summoned their broomsticks telepathically.
** In Stage 6, Nai and Mare provide Branken and Wolzard's [[DragonBallZ power levels]].
** And then there's the movie, where the Heavenly Temple [[DragonBallZ should seem familiar]]
** They do it again in Stage 12, giving Houka [[Literature/SnowWhite apples to inflict on her family.]]
** Stage 15 features the [[EliteMook Solitary Confinement Hades Beast Skeleton]], which has a red skull and can reassemble itself after being destroyed indefinitely. [[Franchise/{{Castlevania}} Sound familiar?]]
** [[OurGeniesAreDifferent Smoky]], upon being released by the Magirangers, introduces himself with a [[Disney/{{Aladdin}} big, bombastic song and dance number.]]
** The end of Stage 33 is one giant reference to Franchise/StarWars, mixing pivotal scenes from ''Film/TheEmpireStrikesBack'' and ''Film/ReturnOfTheJedi''.
* ShyFingerTwiddling: Kai does this on occasion when the subject of [[LoveInterest Yuka Yamazaki comes up.]]
* SiblingTeam: As they are all siblings (except for Hikaru).
** In fact, this is the third Sentai in this respect too, predated by ''Series/ChikyuuSentaiFiveman'' and ''Series/RescueSentaiGoGoFive''.
* SingleMindedTwins: Nai and Mea, but they're just halves of Vancuria.
* SceneryPorn: Stage 22 features many lingering shots of temples in Kyoto.
* SleepCute: A platonic version between Makito and Houka during a flashback to when they were children.
* SleepModeSize: Snowgel, when not in her battle form.
* SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism: Very idealistic, as it ends with [[spoiler:Infershia being redeemed.]]
* SmartPeoplePlayChess: [[TheLancer Tsubasa]] vs. [[IdiotHero Kai]], with the expected results.
* SolarAndLunar: Sungel and Lunagel.
* SortingAlgorithmOfEvil: Hoo boy.
** First, you have the Basic [[MonsterOfTheWeek Hades]] [[LegionsOfHell Beasts]] lead by [[FrankensteinsMonster Branken]], [[OurWerewolvesAreDifferent Wolzard]] and [[OurVampiresAreDifferent Vancuria]].
** [[RockBottom And then]] they summon the [[GiantMook Solitary Confinement Hades Beasts]] and the [[ThresholdGuardian Guardian Beast]] of Infershia.
** [[FromBadToWorse And then]] Branken dies and [[{{Mummy}} Meemy]], a PhysicalGod [[RivalTurnedEvil Turned Evil]] takes over, and summons the [[EliteMooks Hades Beastmen]], humans who [[DealWithTheDevil sold their soul for power.]] The team needs the SixthRanger, another PhysicalGod, to defeat them.
** [[UpToEleven And then]] Meemy summons the [[KingMook Four Hellish Kings]], who beat the rangers so bad they need to develop a SuperMode.
** [[SerialEscalation And then]] Meemy starts using [[TheDarkSide forbidden magic]] - that's magic so bad that ''[[EvenEvilHasStandards even the legions of Hell won't go near it]]'' - to create his monsters, to the point where the rangers need another HumongousMecha.
** ''[[OhCrap And then]]'', once Meemy is defeated, the true bad guys are revealed as the [[GodOfEvil Pantheon of Hell]], a [[StandardEvilOrganizationSquad team of]] ten [[AttackOfThe50FootWhatever giant monsters]] - meaning they start big and [[IncredibleShrinkingMan shrink to human size]], not [[MakeMyMonsterGrow the other way around]] - who [[ApocalypseHow play a few games with the mortals.]]
** '''[[DespairEventHorizon And then]]''' at the end, all of the above leads to releasing [[EldritchAbomination Great]] Beast [[BiggerBad Emperor]] [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast N. Ma]] from the [[SealedEvilInACan Hades Gate]] to [[OmnicidalManiac destroy all the magic in the world.]] He pretty much crushes the rangers, and they have to [[GondorCallsForAid call in every ally they made across the entire series.]] [[spoiler:Including their [[BackFromTheDead mother]] and [[HeelFaceTurn father]].]]

* TheSpeechless: The Hades Beasts are pretty much animals, and only grunt and growl.
* SpeedBlitz: Hades God Wyvern uses this.
* SpellBlade: In stage 29, Houka casts a spell to make [=MagiKing=]'s sword King Caliber hundreds of times sharper.

* SwissArmyTears: [[spoiler:Kai's tears are what ultimately return Wolzard back to Blagel.]]
* TakeAThirdOption: [[spoiler:Instead of leaving Hikaru or Tsubasa to die from using Chronogel's forbidden spell, Wolzard blasts Chronogel and completely cancels the dangerous side effect.]]
* TakenForGranite: Urara in Stage 4. Lots of people, in fact.
** Also, the Hades Goddess Gorgon's Divine Punishment is to inflict this on all living things on Earth at the same time.
* TakeThat: In the opening fight of ''Magiranger vs. Dekaranger'', Ban shows up in a [[Series/PowerRangersSPD Battlizer]]...and proceeds to horribly screw up, healing the enemy and let it escape with Urara. Whoops.
** In stage 27, Kai finds that contrary to what many anime series might lead you to believe, high school students can't rent their own apartments.
* TakingTheBullet: Urara does this to save Kai in Stage 4, resulting in her [[TakenForGranite being turned to stone]]
** She repeats this in Stage 38, only with an actual bullet. In stage 48, the favor is returned by Smoky.
*** And then Miyuki [[SerialEscalation almost immediately right after Smoky.]]
* TakingYouWithMe: [[spoiler:N Ma and Blagel do this to each other, once before the series begins, and again in Stage 34.]]
* TeamHandstack: The whole Ozu family does one just before the final battle in Stage 48.

* TemptingFate: In stage 37, Kai openly proclaims to Cyclops that it'll be easy to find him from where he's shooting at them from. [[OhCrap Then he shoots Kai in the back of the leg from the opposite direction from which he'd been firing up to that point.]]

* TheTrickster: Smoky
* ThroughHisStomach: [[OfficialCouple Urara and Hikaru's relationship]] [[ShipTease takes a major step forward]] when she feeds him some of her apple pie.
* TimeToUnlockMoreTruePotential: Stage 30 has the Magirangers go on a quest to find the Heavenly Saint Snowgel and convince her to unlock their inner power, which they succeed at thanks to their [[RingOfPower oath rings]], which shine with the [[CharacterDevelopment Cour]][[HeroicResolve age]] they'd demonstrated over the preceding five episodes.
* TimeTravel: Possible, but only through [[DangerousForbiddenTechnique a forbidden spell]].
* TomesOfProphecyAndFate: The Book of Prophecy that [[ElegantGothicLolita Nai and Mare]] discover after N Ma is sealed once again.
* TookALevelInBadass: Invoked by Houka with "Version Up." Played straight with [[MidSeasonUpgrade Magi Legend powers.]]
* TrainingFromHell: What do you call having soccer balls shot at you at around 200 km/h so that you can learn how to dodge a monster's punches?
** Something that should've killed him or at least given him massive internal bleeding. Hope he was wearing a cup.

* VerbalTic: Mandora Boy's "de gozarimasu desu" which, considering its length[[note]]It's a combination of "''de gozaru''", "''-(i)masu''" and "''-desu''", which, [[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment in their own ways]], ''are'' applicable {{Verbal Tic}}s[[/note]], borders on parody.
** Smoky has this by way of being a Cat Person.
--> [[CrowningMomentOfFunny "Nyaamen."]]
* VillainSong: Nai and Mea have "Bloody Friday Nightmare" in Stage 11, which they use to hypnotize people so their MonsterOfTheWeek can turn them into vampires ([[spoiler:though it's them, rather than the monster, who do it to Houka]], which extends the episode's plot into the next one). Listen to it [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGHU-5H16SU here]].

** Also, during the movie, [[spoiler: Yuka Yamazaki finds out that Kai and [=MagiRed=] are the same person.]] In the end, nothing comes of this.

However, as the forces of Infershia wise up and and send out enemies not even he can handle, he begins to suffer considerable doubts in his own abilities, especially in the face of his pupil's ever increasing power.
