''House of Anubis'' is a mystery series series airing on {{Nickelodeon}}, based on the Flemish-Dutch series ''Het Huis Anubis.'' The series tells the story of Nina, an American student who earns a scholarship to a fancy English BoardingSchool and becomes a member of the House of Anubis, believed to be the nicest house on campus. On the day of Nina's arrival, another student named Joy is pulled out of the school under mysterious circumstances, prompting her roommate, Patricia, to suspect that the school faculty are enacting some kind of conspiracy. First aired on January 1, 2011, as part of a two-night series premiere.

The second season began on Monday, January 9, 2012. The third season began January 3, 2013.

Now has a [[Characters/HouseOfAnubis character sheet]] in progress.

Here are some of the principal characters
* '''Nina Martin''' - The NewTransferStudent at the BoardingSchool. She tries to solve the mystery of the House of Anubis and find the treasure hidden within.
* '''Fabian Rutter''' - A student in the House of Anubis who is nice to Nina right from the beginning.
* '''Patricia Williamson''' - Joy's roommate and friend. Patricia is suspicious of the circumstances under which Joy disappeared, especially since Joy left behind her cell phone and her favorite stuffed animal.
* '''Amber Millington''' - Another female student. Mick's girlfriend at the start of the series and a archetypical ShipperOnDeck.
* '''Mick Campbell''' - Student in the House of Anubis and Amber's boyfriend. Likes sports.
* '''Mara Jaffray''' - Amber's best friend, but there's some romantic tension between Mara and Mick.
* '''Jerome Clarke''' - Male student in the House of Anubis. Seems to enjoy causing chaos.
* '''Alfie Lewis''' - Another student in the House of Anubis. He has a crush on Amber.
* '''Joy Mercer''' - A student who is called away from the school under odd circumstances. May or may not actually be hiding in the building somewhere.
* '''Sarah Frobisher-Smythe''' - An old woman who claims to have lived in the House of Anubis. She gives Nina a locket which seems to have some power over the house.
* '''Victor Rodenmaar''' - The guy in charge of the House of Anubis. Definitely creepy and definitely up to something.
* '''Rufus Zeno''' - A man posing as a private investigator.
* '''Eddie Miller''' - A new American student in Season 2. Seems to be a bit of a troublemaker, not to mention being ridiculously flirtatious. [[spoiler: In the season 2 finale, it turns out that he is destined to be Nina's protector.]]

'''NOTE: The House of Anubis fanbase is infamous for its speculation of future events of the show and future seasons as well and is very, very, very rumor-based and disinformation/speculation driven, with many rumors about the show an who will leave/return emerge on fake twitter accounts and vandalism of the series' entry on TheOtherWiki. Thus, for those who would like to contribute something to this trope page should be wary of where they get their information from.'''

----
!!Tropes in this series include:
* AcademyOfAdventure: The un-named boarding school, at least if you live in Anubis House.
* {{Adorkable}}:
** Fabian who is nerdy, shy and loved by plenty of girls both in and out of universe. Nina even calls him cute and "geek chic" in her diary.
** There's Mara, the smartest person in the House... who is rather pretty, and gets pretty adorable when she's happy about something.
* AdviceBackfire: When Patricia tells Joy that Fabian likes Nina because they have a lot in common, Joy takes that as advice to pretend to have more in common with Fabian to win him over from Nina.
** Later, when Mara asks Patricia for advice about what to do about Mick possibly moving to Australia, Patricia tries to reassure her by saying that Mara and Mick work as a couple so well despite their differences. Mara takes this as advice to make their differences more evident to Mick so that he'll break up with her before moving to Australia.
* AffectionateNickname: Eddie calls Patricia "Yacker." In a strange twist, this actually started as an insult, then took on a new meaning when they started dating.
* AlliterativeFamily: The Clarke family--John, Joan, Jerome...[[OddNameOut and Poppy.]]
* AllTakeAndNoGive: Many fans have accused Nina and Fabian's relationship to be like this, with Fabian putting in much more of the effort AND doing many dangerous things for Nina and sometimes not even getting so much of a thank you in return. Eventually averted, however, with [[spoiler:Nina putting on the mask of Anubis, willing to go to the Egyptian afterlife to spare her friends and her Grandmother from being cursed any longer.]]
** Amber and Alfie's relationship in the beginning of season 2 was also like this.
* AlmostKiss: Happens to all the pairings at some point in the show.
** [[spoiler:Patricia and Eddie. She pulls away.]]
** Also [[spoiler: Mara and Jerome. She pulls away.]]
* AloneAmongTheCouples: At the end of season 3, KT is the only person not paired off with anyone. She doesn't mind, though.
* AlphaBitch: No real straight examples, because each of the characters are given sympathetic sides and never stay bitchy for too long; however, some characters did gain some shades of this trope.
** Patricia fell into this at the beginning of season one; she bullied and played nasty tricks on Nina, assuming she had something to do with the disappearance of her best friend. However, it was a different variation, as the only two people who supported her were Jerome and Alfie, and they only joined her because of the humor value, and not out of actual malice, and they were horrified with everyone else when Patricia locked Nina in the attic. She got better quickly, and soon she and Nina became incredibly close friends and she joined Sibuna.
** Amber also had shades of this while running against Mara in the school election, this time over the affection of Mick. They made up quickly enough when Amber managed to get over Mick and supported Mara in getting with him.
** Joy also had shades of this in season two when she rivaled Nina for Fabian's attentions. However, nobody supported her in her worst actions, not even Patricia. She also managed to be sympathetic, having deep insecurities and honestly feeling replaced by Nina since she had been gone the year before. In the end, she joined Sibuna to help Nina, and got over her meaner traits.
* AmbiguousAllegiance: Jason Winkler was a good guy at first, and then he started to unravel the mystery of Joy Mercer's disappearance. Ultimately, this led him to Victor and the next thing the viewers knew, he had joined Victor's society. This spawned some debate among fans of the series as to whether Jason was being forced to cooperate with the society or whether he had joined of his own free will. (A third theory is that he is the ReverseMole, pretending to be loyal to the society in order to gather information on them.) Turned out, [[spoiler: he was slowly dying and needed [[MacGuffin The Cup of Ankh]] to save himself.]]
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Joy, due to the fact that her actress is half Filipina.
** Mara, as well.
* AmnesiaMissedASpot: Played with when Fabian gets his amnesia curse. At first, he is still able to remember enough, like who Nina is, even though it does take a little work to trigger these memories. Though, eventually he does lose his entire memory, including his name.
* AngerBornOfWorry: Nina gets like this a lot in season 2. She has a tendency to get mad at her friends for trying to help save her life, because it was putting themselves in danger, too.
* AntiHero: Several, including:
** Patricia, who has always meant well, but has a bunch of morally gray traits- [[GreenEyedMonster extreme jealousy,]] BrutalHonesty, a bit of a HairTriggerTemper...she has also done a bunch of morally gray actions as well, mostly in the first season, where she had gone as far as locking Nina in the attic in order to try and get information about her best friend, who had gone missing. She's by no means a perfect person, but she does mean well.
** Jerome was a more blatant example. In season 1, he was a manipulative, uncaring SlimeBall who enjoyed messing with anyone and everyone, including his own best friend Alfie. When Alfie joined Sibuna, Jerome became jealous and forced Alfie to give him information, which eventually culminated in Jerome joining [[BigBad Rufus Zeno]]. Eventually he realized that Rufus was the bad guy and, once he started getting threatened by his new boss, joined Sibuna temporarily. In Season 2, he started to fix some of his worst traits, but remained as the anti-hero of the show, especially when the gem he spent all season trying to find was stolen. He automatically went on an investigation, which ended up having him once again helping Rufus to get the gem back, as well as the recently kidnapped Trudy. Once again, he helped Sibuna stop Rufus, but only after getting busted for stealing an important object of Sibuna's. In the third season, while no longer part of the mystery, he remains in this roll, as early on in the season he ended up cheating on Mara, his girlfriend, with a girl named Willow. After that, Jerome was an object of Mara's revenge, which became harsh enough to place him squarely back on the hero side of the situation. This also made Mara an anti-hero as well, because her goal was sympathetic, but her actions were not.
** Finally, there's Joy. In the second season, she was relentless in trying to win Fabian's affections, which meant hurting Nina. She did this by trying to win his sympathies, trick him into kissing her, and then trying to get Nina to leave the school. All of these merely ended up making her hated by Fabian. Then she went on to hurt her other friends as well, despite those friends trying to help her with her problems. By the end, however, she ended up helping Sibuna and saving the lives of both Nina and Fabian, implying that she would have been a fine person if she hadn't felt rejected. In the third season, she was the one of the first to learn about Jerome cheating on Mara with Willow, and at first rightfully attempted to make him tell the truth. Once the truth was out, she tried to help Mara get her revenge- which meant pretending to have feelings for Jerome, getting him to like her back, and then dumping him in front of the entire school. It worked, but she eventually fell for him too, and he found out and dumped her instead. During all of this, she remained a hero for her sympathetic storyline, but her actions- which were being done for a good reason, but just weren't very nice, as well as the fact that she went along with Mara's plan to the end despite knowing it was a cruel trick- puts her into the anti-hero zone.
* AntiVillain: Jason Winkler from the first season. He was only really a villain by way of being a member of the Secret Society and betraying Patricia. He was always more interested in his teaching job and the students, and even after betraying Patricia, still clearly cared about her. In the finale, he attempted to get Victor and the other teachers to help Sibuna, who were trapped with [[BigBad Rufus Zeno]]. It was then revealed that the only reason he joined the Society at all was because the elixir of life, which makes one immortal, would have saved him from dying of his degenerative illness. In a deleted scene, he even got to talk to Patricia one last time before disappearing from the show. He was never at all a bad guy, he had just made the wrong choices.
* ArcNumber: Seven. Anubis split the Cup of Ankh into seven pieces and TheChosenOne was born on the seventh hour of the seventh day in the seventh month. Seven acolytes are necessary in order to tip the scales of life. Also, the Cup of Ankh can only be put back together once every 25 years. (2+5=7) Doubles as a NumerologicalMotif for the Cup.
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking:
-->'''Mara:''' ''(to Patricia)'' You went too far. Plus, I was on cleanup duty.
* AskAStupidQuestion: When Victor is padlocking the attic door, Trudy comes up and asks,
-->'''Trudy:''' What are you doing?
-->'''Victor:''' Baking a cake. What does it look like I'm doing?
* AwkwardKiss: The kiss between Eddie and Piper sure is awkward, as Eddie thought Piper was her twin sister and his girlfriend, Patricia, and Piper had no clue who Eddie was. The kiss appeared to be rather strange for both of them, as Eddie expected Piper to [[BelligerentSexualTension insult him]] like Patricia does, and Piper didn't even know what was going on.
* [[BackForTheFinale Back for the Season Finale]]: [[spoiler: Mick]].
* BadassInDistress: When Patricia gets kidnapped by the villain, she still manages to keep being the strong character she is and does everything she can to escape, from leaving a clue behind when she was taken to trying to knock out her capturer. Even when held captive, she relentlessly snarks at him. Despite this, it is her friends who end up rescuing her. (After two of them have to be saved themselves after a first failed rescue attempt, anyway.) Immediately following her rescue Patricia goes on to furiously blackmail one of the teachers into telling the secret about her missing friend.
* BadLiar: Many people in the show are horrible liars, most notably the main character herself, as well as Mara Jaffray (most notably with her cover story about "endangered hedgehogs" during the first episode.)
* BandOfBrothers: Sibuna. Despite any fights the group may have they are shown to be incredibly loyal to each other, risking lives on almost a daily basis for another member who needs it. Not exactly a band of ''brothers'' though, as it's, as Amber puts it, "Three girls and two men. Well, boys." However, now it's three boys and two girls, but the point still stands.
** To a lesser extent the whole of Anubis House could be seen as this. Loyalties are definitely less obvious and many times the students to turn on one another, but when things get serious you can expect everyone to work together, especially if one of their own is being threatened.
* BathroomStallOfOverheardInsults: Amber steps out of a bathroom stall just after hearing Mara tell Patricia that she's attracted to Mick. It goes over about as well as you'd expect.
** In ''House of Victory'', this is how Jerome learns that [[spoiler: Mick cheated so Mara would win the election.]]
* BeardOfEvil: Victor.
* BeAWhoreToGetYourMan: Mara does a kid-friendly version of this to attract Mick in the first season. It's {{subverted}} however, because Mick likes her just the way she is.
** In the second season, Mara does the [[InvertedTrope inversion]] of this by acting ridiculously geeky and awkward to get Mick to break up with him. Mara is baffled when it doesn't work.
* BelligerentSexualTension: Patricia and Eddie in Season 2 are the most famous example, as their feelings are obvious to everyone despite their bantering. Eddie eventually heard her tell Joy that she did like him, but she denied it. Their BST even continued after their kiss.
** Patricia has admitted to liking Eddie, although whenever she tries to tell him, it comes out as an insult. She even mentions that she prefers that he be mean to her because she can't handle him being nice.
-->'''Joy:''' Just tell him you like him!
-->'''Patricia:''' I can't! I mean, I want to say, 'Eddie, I like you, I think you're cute' and all that stuff, but by the time it gets to here ''(points to her mouth)'' it comes out as, 'Get out of my face, Eddie, you freak!'
-->'''Joy:''' Yeah, you say that a lot...
-->'''Patricia:''' I know. ''(sighs)'' I like him, like, I really do, but I can't handle it when he's nice to me! It just makes me feel like such a horrible person.
** Joy and Jerome had some of this as well, though it started as actual hatred. She actually tried and failed to invoke this, when she was pretending to have feelings for him, giving us this little gem when she tries to [[DiscussedTrope discuss]] the trope with him.
---> '''Joy''': --Like we are just pretending, and using hate to cover up our real feelings for each other?
---> '''Jerome''': [[DefiedTrope ...no, I think it's just cause we don't like each other.]]
* BerserkButton: Many characters in the series have these.
** Go ahead. Flirt with Eddie when Patricia's around. It won't end well.
*** In season 1, not caring about Joy being in trouble or -heaven forbid- possibly having anything to do with Joy's disappearance will send Patricia on the warpath.
** Do ''not'' steal Jerome's gem.
** Hurting or insulting Nina in front of Fabian is one of the very few ways to get him in a--sometimes violent--rage. It even worked when he was a soulless sinner.
** Mara is generally one of the nicest people in the House...but get her jealous, or cheat on her, and she will stop at nothing to destroy you.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Fabian is often believed to be one of the nicest people in the house, as well as an {{Adorkable}} ExtremeDoormat. But if you threaten or insult Nina in his presence, he will do everything from simply shout at you, to honestly trying to attack you physically.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Alfie may be the ClassClown, but he's no pushover, as he has proven to be a useful presence in Sibuna- and if he is serious about something, you better not stand in his way. He yelled at Fabian and Patricia when they wanted to have breakfast instead of rescuing the currently-trapped Amber, and then later was the one standing up against [[TheSoulless Sinner!Fabian]] -- to the point of pressing Fabian's BerserkButton and getting away with it.
* BigBad: Victor [[spoiler: seemed like this at first, but this was {{subverted}} at the end of the season finale, where it was implied that he was more ignorant than evil. He just wanted to be immortal and was unaware of the price of that immortality. (He believed that the tipping of the scales of life was symbolic and was genuinely shocked to learn otherwise.) Rufus Zeno on the other hand, knew that it wasn't symbolic and intended to become immortal anyway. That and the fact that he's generally a sadistic bastard make him a much better candidate for the BigBad.]]
* BigEater: What boy on this show doesn't fall under this trope? It's most notable with Mick, Alfie and Eddie.
** Even the actors acknowledged Mick's tendency to eat- his eating scenes are written ''in the script''. Apparently the actor isn't much better, either.
** With Alfie, not only does he always eat--he eats ''a lot''. And it's rather messy, too. He's the one who once almost ditched Sibuna to eat Trudy's cookies instead [[spoiler:while the students were under lock down and not allowed to eat anything Victor didn't allow them to.]]
** Eddie is nearly as bad as Alfie is, though at least he can separate his duties from lunch time.
* BoardingSchool: Nina even comments that going to the boarding school makes her feel like HarryPotter.
* BoardingSchoolOfHorrors: The un-named boarding school could be considered this. While it is a rather clean and rich school, and students are (usually) well taken care of, it is also a school where [[EvilTeacher the teachers tend to be evil]], ancient secrets haunt Anubis House, and it seems to be a hotspot for ancient evil activities, as well as endless dangers the students face daily just to sometimes simply survive. The school WAS only started for the teachers to succeed in their plots of achieving immortality...
* BondingOverMissingParents: It's surprising how long it took for two people to bond over their parental issues, as everyone seems to have them. In this case, it was Jerome and Joy.
* BookDumb: Played with by Eddie. He speaks French well enough to see through Patricia's prank [[note]] She gave him a box of chocolate covered worms from a French company, thinking that the stupid American wouldn't be able to tell what they were[[/note]] and he even jokingly calls Ms. Andrews a "menteuse" [[note]] French for "liar", complete with the correct gender variation[[/note]], but he doesn't know the meaning of the word "meritocracy". [[note]]A form of government where a person's role is decided by their level of skill or merit[[/note]]
* BorrowedCatchphrase: The show had many characters borrow Victor's famous pin-drop speech. Fabian did it once in the school play (where he was playing Victor, of course) and he did it again with Patricia and Alfie when they [[spoiler:became sinners]]. The result was a FunnyMoment:
---> '''Fabian:''' It is ten o'clock!
---> '''Patricia:''' You have five minutes...
---> '''Alfie:''' And then I want to hear you all drop.
* BrainyBrunette: Mara.
** Fabian is a male example.
* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler: This happened to Victor when he was little. After his father gave him a verbal lashing, he broke his friendship with Sarah because he thought she wouldn't tell him any information, such as where the Ankh pieces were.]]
* BrickJoke: Early in Season 1, the possibility of Anubis House being haunted is brought up, but then dismissed. Fast forward to Season 2, where the house turns out to actually be haunted.
* BrutalHonesty:
-->'''Patricia:''' Sorry, I bet I've been driving you all crazy.\\
'''Everyone:''' No.\\
'''Jerome:''' Yes.
* BuffySpeak: Nina refers to the ghost that is haunting her as a "Curse-y spirit".
* ButtMonkey: Alfie. He's sometimes the butt of his friends jokes, has been pranked numerous times by his best friend, [[spoiler: was locked in the cellar, nearly died from poisoning, de-aged/shrunk]], was pushed around by his girlfriend,[[spoiler: would have died at the end of season 1 if Fabian didn't switch the elixir]], and the list goes on.
** Nina, too. Despite being TheHero and [[spoiler: TheChosenOne]], she falls into this too. Poor girl has had to deal with [[spoiler: her new friend Sarah dying in Season 1]], ''all'' of her friends being threatened by a vengeful ghost in Season 2, and said ghost [[spoiler: nearly killing her grandmother]] just to pressure her into cooperating.
* CallBack: In ''House Of Yesterday'', Nina says "Crisis averted, for now" which are the same words Victor said after destroying Joy's file in ''House Of Eyes.''
** The roommate swapping between Amber and Patricia could be considered a CallBack to the original ''Het Huis Anubis'', in which Amber was roommates with Nienke and Patricia was roommates with Mara.
* CameBackWrong: Robert Frobisher-Smythe, because someone who wasn't [[OnlyThePureOfHeart "pure of heart"]] helped lift the sleeping curse.
* CantGetAwayWithNuthin: Oh, ''Patricia''. While other characters have gotten away with a couple of things (like Jerome getting away with blackmailing Mara), she gets in trouble for ''every'' bad action she does. The only times that she didn't get in trouble for something was when she [[FoodSlap dumps milk on Eddie]], but that was only because everyone (even him) had already decided he deserved it, or the times when she was a sinner, due to the fact that she had [[TheSoulless no soul at the time.]] She even gets called out for things other characters do without repercussions, like yelling at people, or even gets people mad at her when she wasn't even causing trouble at all.
* CatchPhrase: Victor: "You have five minutes precisely and then I want to hear a pin drop." Can also be taken as a sign of his [[spoiler: real age]], since the expression "Hear a pin drop" is no longer in style.
** Nina: "I'm Nina, from America." Lampshaded by Patricia:
--> '''Patricia''': She's American and she's totally obsessed with it. She said it like a hundred times.
* CharacterMagneticTeam: Sibuna seems to grow larger each season, either by gaining new allies or actual members. What started out as a PowerTrio became a FiveManBand, and eventually, by [[TheMovie The Touchstone of Ra]], everyone in the house had been involved at some point in Sibuna. [[MyFriendsAndZoidberg Except Mick.]]
* ChekhovsGun: The blank phonographic cylinder that made the horrible screeching noise when Fabian and Nina attempted to play it. [[spoiler: It was fake. It has a clue hidden inside it.]]
* ChekhovsGunman: Eddie. He appears in Season 2 as a new student from America and a LoveInterest for Patricia, but in the season finale, he turns out to be [[spoiler: the Osirian, counterpart and guardian to TheChosenOne.]]
* {{Cliffhanger}}: The season 2 finale ends with [[spoiler: Victor putting on the ring his father gave him, at which point it glows and opens to reveal a Tear of Gold.]]
* TheChosenOne: [[spoiler: Joy]] seems like this, but in the season finale it turns out to be [[spoiler: Nina]]. {{Lampshaded}} by Jerome:
--> '''Jerome:''' It would be [[spoiler: the American]], wouldn't it?
** Fabian even suspects it before the season finale, when [[spoiler: Nina]] tells him that [[spoiler: she was able to find the next clue because she heard voices coming from the chandelier saying where in the chandelier it was.]]
--> [[spoiler: '''Nina:''']] ''(after explaining how she was able to find the next clue)'' You're wondering if I'm insane.
--> '''Fabian:''' No. I'm wondering if they've gotten it wrong about [[spoiler: Joy]] being the Chosen One.
** Sarah Frobisher-Smythe, too, as she was the chosen one before [[spoiler: Nina]] was born.
** [[spoiler: Eddie turns out to be this as well, if only as the Osirian, the yang to Nina's yin, and the ChosenOne's destined protector. Somehow, he knew how to banish Senkhara from Nina's body, when she was about to sacrifice herself for her friends and family. Rufus Zeno is one as well, [[BigBad despite being a villain.]] [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity Actually, this power is what caused it.]]]]
** Then in Season 3, [[spoiler: the ChosenOne being American is subverted: It appears by all rights to be KT at first, but it turns out to be ''Jerome, Alfie, Patricia and Joy''.]]
* {{Cliffhanger}}: All episodes end in a cliffhanger to be resolved in the next episode.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Amber towards Mara, since they both love Mick.
** Nina acts like this toward Joy in Season 2, regarding the fact that they both love Fabian. She takes no pleasure in feeling this way.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Amber. She has her head in the clouds often, and is very silly. However her random comments help Sibuna with their quests throughout the seasons.
** Willow counts, too. She's very eccentric.
** Alfie also counts. He's the ClassClown and believes in things like aliens and zombies, but on occasion his silliness comes in handy. For instance, one of his planned zombie hideout places was perfect for moving [[spoiler: an unconscious Robert Frobischer-Smythe into to perform the ceremony.]] Also, his magic skills have come in handy a few times.
* ComeOutComeOutWhereverYouAre: Used twice by Rufus Zeno. Once was to Patricia in the Season One episode House of Hazards. The second time was to Jerome in Season Two.
* CompanionCube: Corbierre, Victor's stuffed raven. Played with too, as it belonged to his father and probably was alive at some point.
* ComplainingAboutRescuesTheyDontLike: Nina did this to Fabian. The rescue? Saving her from falling into a bottomless chasm. The 'crime'? Accidentally kissing a girl he thought was her. Granted, it wasn't the smallest accident in the world, but he still didn't deserve to be yelled at for saving her life.
--> '''Fabian:''' I...I saved you...
--> '''[[UngratefulBastard Nina:]]''' Yeah? Well, why don't you save the other girl in this dress?
* CompressedVice: In season 2, the Sibunas all admit that they have phobias that make it hard to get through one of the tasks. These phobias came out of nowhere, and were fixed pretty quickly. Alfie's phobia, claustrophobia, at least, was mentioned again in season 3, and Amber's bug phobia was mentioned in passing earlier on. But the rest of them? Never mentioned again.
* ConspiracyTheorist: Patricia. A rare instance where the Conspiracy Theorist is actually right.
* ContinuityNod: Happens every so often, usually when referring to a past mystery. Some gems are-
** In Season 2, when Mrs. Andrews tells Joy that, because Joy missed so much school the year before, she'll need a tutor to help her catch up. Joy replied, "That's sort of your fault for that, isn't it, Mrs. Andrews?"
** Also in Season 2, when Nina and Fabian are trying to stay awake all night and telling stories, Nina references one episode in the first season.
** In Season 3, when Fabian is getting paranoid because of Nina's disappearance, he goes to Patricia for help, reasoning that, when she was the same way over Joy, she herself was desperate for help. This caused Patricia to give in and help him.
** Probably used best one episode towards the end of the third season, when Eddie is trying to convince Sinner!Patricia to remember her feelings for him, which she claims she cannot, and does not want to. He then says this-
--> '''Eddie:''' I mean...how it felt, the first time we saw each other? Or the first time we went on a date? Kissed...[[FirstKiss your first ever kiss...]] Or the time you poured a jug of milk over my head...
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: After tricking the younger students into paying to audition for a school play and insulting and rejecting them all, Jerome and Alfie's punishment is putting on a performance for them dressed as sumo wrestlers in tutus, and paying them back with 50% interest going to charity.
* CoolHouse: The House of Anubis.
* [[CreepyBasement Creepy Attic and Cellar]]: The students are not allowed in those two places, and rightfully so.
* TheCuckoolanderWasRight: In a way, Sarah. While she isn't really a cuckoolander, many people do believe she is crazy including the main characters themselves, but everything she says is usually a clue to the mystery in some way. This is because she grew up with the mystery herself, as her parents were the ones who hid the treasure and the two main villains turned on her for the truth. [[spoiler:She also happened to be the original [[ItSucksToBeTheChosenOne Chosen One.]]]]
* CulturalTranslation: The entire point of this shows existence is to be this to the show Het Huis Anubis. Can be noted by the American names of the characters (Nienke's name on the original show for instance, was replaced with the name Nina on the translation).
* CuttingTheKnot: In one episode, Sibuna is trying to figure out how to get the crocodile bridge over the chasm in the tunnels. Fabian suggested a complex counterweight lever system. Immediately after, Amber suggested they merely picked the bridge up on it's side and drop it over the hole.
** In another episode they are trying to get past a dead-end, and Alfie suggests to just smash the wall down with their shoulders. He doesn't smash the wall, but he does disarm the pendulums swinging over the chasm bridge and finds the way across.
* DarkerAndEdgier: In season 1, the mystery was finding clues, building a cup, and learning secrets about the house. Season 2 got darker, with curses and much more on the line, not to mention some more intense scenes (including [[spoiler:the main villain being sucked into the Egyptian underworld]]). Season 3, and [[spoiler:characters are losing their souls, someone impersonated their mentally ill adoptive sister,]] and even the romance is becoming more intense. No wonder it's been moved to TeenNick....
* DarkIsNotEvil: [[spoiler: Eddie]] is the symbolic darkness to Nina's light, but is still one of the good guys.
* TheDarkSide: The Secret Society soon bring in the newest teacher into their ranks leading to his [[FaceHeelTurn face heel turn]].
** Season 3 has, what the heroes call, Team Evil. They eventually also start corrupting people into their team, [[spoiler:by locking them into a sarcophagus and stealing their soul for the god Ammit to devour.]] They are even worse when you discover [[spoiler:they took the soul of one of the Sibuna Members themselves.]] While this could be considered mind control, the members who had their soul lost openly admit that power feels good and are all glad that they lost their conscience, while the rest of them feel that way anyways.
* DartboardOfHate: Jerome and Alfie throw darts at a picture of Mr. Winkler, after he punishes them for their most recent scam attempt.
* DeadpanSnarker: Patricia is probably the biggest example, but everyone has gotten sarcastic at least once. For the boys, it's probably Jerome.
** Nina has some moments of this:
-->'''Victor:''' What were you doing in the cellar?\\
'''Nina:''' [[SarcasmMode Just remembering all the fun times we had down there.]]
** Mara can do this too:
-->'''Mara:''' Amber, you're supposed to be helping me do the dishes.\\
'''Amber:''' But I hate doing the dishes, the water makes my hands all wrinkly.\\
'''Mara:''' I know. If only there were some sort of glove, made of rubber, that could protect your hands from water.
** Eddie as well:
-->'''Mara:''' I don't believe in ghosts.\\
'''Eddie:''' Yeah, you made that perfectly clear by the way you screamed and hid.
** Amber got in on it when they were taking the reflector out of the mosaic:
-->'''Nina:''' Careful. Easy does it.\\
'''Amber:''' Yes, we wouldn't want to break it because [[SarcasmMode it's just so pretty.]]
** KT is also pretty snarky at times:
--> '''Fabian:''' Do you know Nina Martin? She's from America, too.
--> '''KT:''' You realize America is ''huge,'' right?
* DealWithTheDevil: [[spoiler: Rufus]] isn't exactly TheDevil, but he's evil enough. Way to get in over your head there, [[spoiler: Jerome]]
* DeathGlare:
** Nina has this down pretty well.
** Victor is the grand champion of this trope.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Patricia. She's the cool goth who says what she thinks, does what she wants and scares the rest of the students in all three seasons, but come season 2 her personality started to soften up overall. What happened? Well, she met [[BelligerentSexualTension Eddie]] and started to turn a bit nicer.
** Not to mention the whole near death mystery stuff and the [[PowerOfFriendship power of friendship]]. If those things can't begin to chip away at someone's [[IceQueen icy]] shell, nothing can.
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler: Robert Frobisher-Smythe is heavily implied to be possessed by Ammit, the Egyptian Devourer of the Dead, ''who plans to come into the mortal world''. And not only is Victor possessed, his soul sealed in a sarcophagi, but they plan for four others to suffer the same fate. And now three more are filled, consisting of Patricia, Mr. Sweet and ''[[NiceGuy Fabian.]]'' ]]
* DemotedToExtra: Mick and Mara. Their relationship subplot towards the end of the series only served as fluff {{padding}} and had very little significance to the Sibuna plot aside from setting up the date of the prom dance.
** Mick wasn't even in a good portion of the second season, being PutOnABus.
** Joy. Apparently, being "The Chosen One" will rob you of all the limelight of the show or even won't have you in group photos (see the page photo). But is she really the Chosen One?
* DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment: One instance of this. Also doubles as CaptainObvious.
--> '''Mr.Sweet:''' Your opponents have already set a match for three days time.
--> '''Jerome:''' But that's only three days away!
* DevilInPlainSight: Patricia, at least when she becomes a sinner. She tricked the others into believing the sinner was KT, while her [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness out of character attitude]] should have suggested otherwise.
** A lot of the other villains seem to fall under this as well, such as Rufus- who wore all black, and was basically stalking Patricia for a few episodes before they met.
* DismantledMacGuffin: The Cup of Ankh. According to Fabian's book on Egyptian mythology, Amneris took the Cup and hid it inside the tomb of the Pharaoh Tutankhamen. Anubis was angered by this and split the Cup into seven pieces, preventing it's use. Rufus later explains that Anubis and Amneris reached an agreement whereby the Cup could be put together once every twenty five years at a certain hour, but only by [[TheChosenOne a member of Amneris's bloodline.]]
* DisappearedDad:[[spoiler: Mr. Sweet]] was this to [[spoiler: Eddie]] but he's at least attempting to rectify this.
* DontYouDarePityMe: Joy went through a phase of this during the beginning of season 3, when she was trying to get over Fabian and re-invent herself, and found Mara and Willow's sympathy to be annoying.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Fabian. Despite the fact that he does much of the research and saved most of this friends from danger on numerous occasions, he has been continuously pushed around by everyone, most notably his own crush and (ex) girlfriend, Nina Martin. It gets to the point where he struggles to be more assertive and demand his respect for the things he does for the others, resulting in this exchange:
-->'''Nina:''' ''(looking at the formally lost artifact/cube Fabian brought back)'' Where did you find it?
-->'''Fabian:''' Jasper said he found it at the school. Good thing as well, other wise we might have lost it for good.
-->'''Nina:''' But how did it get from here to there?
-->'''Fabian:''' I... I don't know. ''(pauses)'' Why don't you ask the cube? Maybe it speaks and answers questions since you have so many!
-->'''Nina:''' ''(glares at Fabian)''
-->'''Fabian:''' I...I'm sorry. It's back now... that's the important thing. You could have said thank you, at least.
* DumbBlonde: Amber tends to lean towards this trope, though it's shown that she IS pretty smart when it counts, and has come up with many ideas including the formation of Sibuna itself. She might be a case of BrilliantButLazy or more likely the GeniusDitz as she is shown to be very skilled in fashion and often mystery related topics as well.
** Mick also counts as this, but it's shown that he does have the ability to be smart and he does try, he just [[BookDumb struggles academically]]. When he does get help, his grades go up by a lot.
** Eddie though seems to be more of a [[BrilliantButLazy smart yet lazy]] type, so averted with him.
** Nina is also an [[AvertedTrope aversion.]] She has (dirty) blonde hair, but she's very smart.
* DysfunctionJunction: Nina's parents died in a car crash when she was young and her Gran was nearly killed by an evil ghost. Amber's father is cold and strict, Alfie's parents are overbearing, Jerome's mother doesn't care for him and his sister and his dad was in jail for theft, Eddie's father is one of the villains, Joy's father kidnapped her for reasons related to the mystery, Patricia's parents seem to favor her twin, Mick and Mara's parents are both rather pushy, KT is an orphan and her great-grand father is [[BigBad the big bad of season 3]]. And that's just the families.
* EquivalentExchange: The Cup of Ankh will grant immortality to the person who drinks the Elixir of Life out of it, but [[BalancingDeathsBooks someone else will die to replace the life that would otherwise have ended eventually.]]
* EstablishingCharacterMoment:
** Nina is shown getting off the train,
** Fabian is reading a book about brain science
** Patricia and Joy are goofing around and being best friends. Joy is affectionate towards Fabian.
** Jerome is scamming a student out of his money for a cheat sheet.
** Alfie shows Jerome his newest plan to get Amber to notice him, which involves a fake hand.
** Amber is talking on her phone, during class, asking her father to give her an extension on her credit card.
** Victor appears out of nowhere, startling Nina and reprimands her for entering without knocking.
* EurekaMoment: Happens often usually thanks to Amber.
---> '''Amber''': Don't try and confuse me with your fancy words.
---> '''Patricia''': It's in the dictionary, Amber, it isn't fancy.
---> '''Nina''': ''(suddenly jumps up)'' Dictionary... of course! (The riddle was "where yesterday always follows tomorrow.")
** Or,
---> '''Fabian''': ''(reading riddle)'' 'Inside the core of my enemies' pride is where the final relic hides...'
---> '''Amber''': Core... core...
---> '''Patricia''': You sound just like Corbierre [Victor's stuffed raven], Amber. Coo... coo...
---> '''Nina''': Patricia, Amber! Geniuses...
---> '''Amber''': Thank you! Wait, why are we geniuses?[[labelnote:explanation]]Victor is their main enemy for this season and Corbierre is his "pride and joy"[[/labelnote]]
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Victor Rodenmaar, despite having had antagonized and pushed Sarah Frobisher-Smythe towards revealing a secret she didn't know, the two were very close [[ChildhoodFriends childhood friends]] and he reacted with genuine grief when she died. He also reacts very strongly when anyone mention his deceased father in a negative light.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Victor Rodenmaar. No matter how badly he himself may act towards the students, when they are in danger, he responds protectively over them. For instance, when [[spoiler: Alfie is captured in the Senet game]], Victor is deeply disturbed by this and says to Vera that harming the students wasn't part of the plan. Another time, he chose to save Joy's life rather than use his last tear of gold for himself.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: Fabian and Nina embody this trope so much, it's almost painful to watch. It gets to the point where other students in the house (not to mention the entire fandom) are asking Fabian to please just ask her out already.
** This conversation alone proves it:
--> '''Mick:''' So, Fabian, who are you planning on asking to the prom?
--> '''Amber:''' A certain play writing scholarship student with a thing for antiques and apple pie?
--> '''Mara:''' Of course he'll be taking Nina...if he ever gets around to asking her.
--> '''Fabian:''' I don't know what you're talking about. Me and Nina...[[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend we're not an item.]]
--> '''Mick:''' Come on. Everyone knows you two secretly like each other...well, not so secretly.
--> '''Mara:''' Yeah, so when are you going to put Nina and the rest of us out of our misery?
* EvilFormerFriend: For Sarah Frobisher-Smythe, both Victor Rodenmaar and Rufus Zeno fit this trope. Victor and Rufus, being the two major villains of season 1 and both major again in season 2, as well as both antagonizing Sarah for a secret she doesn't have, were both once Sarah's childhood friends and eventually business partners, until they both became corrupted with power and greed and turned on her, and each other as well.
* EvilTeacher: All teachers tend to fall into this trope, most notably Victor, Vera and Miss Denby.
** Also tends to be subverted, as this is mostly just a title, and many of the teachers still do genuinely care for the students despite being part of the 'evil' group, most notably Jason, who had actually tried to HELP Patricia in the beginning and still cared about her well-being even after his FaceHeelTurn. Later it was revealed that [[spoiler:he had only joined Victor and the others because he was suffering a degenerative illness and immortality was the only way to save his life.]] Other examples of this are Mrs. Andrews, who [[spoiler:quits the society and leaves the school as she feels the students should come first]] and Mr. Sweet, who despite almost always taking Victor's side, [[spoiler:is Eddie's father]] and whenever the students are in trouble, chooses them over Victor. He also left the society in the second season to focus on being a good principal.
* EvilWearsBlack: BigBad [[spoiler: Rufus]] wears the same black coat, black turtle neck and black pants in virtually all his appearances.
* FallenHero: [[spoiler: Rufus]] was Sarah's Osirian, but the power went to his head.
* FalseStart: This happens a lot on this show where everything from important information to kisses are interrupted on almost a daily basis, and the characters are forced to try again later, often to the same result.
** Most notably when Fabian kept trying to ask Nina to the prom. He got interrupted about four times before finally managing to ask at breakfast (once [[GenreSavvy Nina]] told him to hurry and ask before something else stopped it from happening).
* FauxAffablyEvil: Vera plays up the act of being the perfect Housemother...but is ruthless and DangerouslyGenreSavvy in her efforts to get the Mask of Anubis for [[BigBad Rufus]].
** Miss Denby takes it to a higher level. She seems like the perfect teacher, but is a skilled ManipulativeBastard who keeps her stepsister locked up, makes subtle threats towards Sibuna, and will hurt anyone to get what she wants--and was a whole lot more successful than Vera, and even more DangerouslyGenreSavvy to boot.
* FascinatingEyebrow: Jerome has demonstrated this a few times.
* FieryRedhead: Patricia. She even scares the boys when she gets mad...which happens quite often. Her hair gets darker as the show goes on, though.
* [[FirstGirlWins First Boy Wins]]: Fabian was the first of the guys to meet Nina. Guess who Nina ends up dating?
* FirstKiss: It is revealed that Patricia kissing Eddie was actually Patricia's first time kissing anybody, leading for her to avoid Eddie after it happened. Her own best friend was shocked to discover this.
* FiveManBand: Characters for both genders apply.
** TheHero - Nina (Fabian also applies)
** TheLancer - Patricia, Jerome
** TheSmartGuy - Mara, Fabian
** TheBigGuy - Amber, Mick
** TheChick - Joy, Alfie
* FoodFight: Patricia starts one when Eddie accidentally gets some creamed carrot on her shirt. [[GenreSavvy Amber notices Patricia throwing food at Eddie and makes them stop until she safely gets out of firing range.]]
* FoodSlap: Pouring a drink on someone Patricia's favorite ways of getting revenge--she does it at least once every season, and it's been [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] on a few occasions. To elaborate, she did it in the premiere to Nina, when she was trying to get information out of her, and in another episode to Amber when she told on her for trying to take Nina's locket. She poured milk on Eddie in season two for only dancing with her on a bet, and then in Season 3 she threw juice at KT and finally, poured juice over Willow. ([[spoiler: She was a sinner in the latter case, however.]]) She also threatened to do this to Jerome in Season 3. In the finale movie, she TRIED to do it twice, but was stopped on both occasions.
-->'''Nina:''' ''(to Eddie, after Patricia poured milk on him)'' [[LampshadeHanging Yeah...she does that.]]
** She also attacks Eddie with creamed carrot when he accidentally got some on her shirt. This started a FoodFight.
** KT once threw her cereal at Patricia, in response to Patricia throwing juice at her.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: PlayedWith. Patricia seems like she'd be the more down to Earth one, being the DeadpanSnarker and a bit more responsible than her rather emotional friends, while Piper seems like she'd be the naive and foolish one; However, when they actually interact, Patricia's impulsive and mischievous nature becomes much more obvious in comparison to her much calmer, nicer sister, making Piper the responsible on and Patricia the foolish one.
* ForeignExchangeStudent: Nina, Eddie, and KT all come to the school from America.
* ForgedMessage: Eddie, with KT's help, forged a break-up letter for Fabian claiming it was written by Nina. Fabian didn't fall for it, however, because he knew that the letter was written in a way Nina didn't write. Eddie didn't do it to be malicious; He DID have a letter from Nina for Fabian, but lost it, so tried to make his own instead.
* FountainOfYouth: Alfie suffers from this as a result of Senkhara's curse.
* TheFreelanceShameSquad: Happens to Eddie after Patricia accidentally sat on the school speaker button, while the two of them were in the principals office, and they accidentally revealed that Eddie was the principal's son to the entire school. When they got out of the office everyone had gathered to mock Eddie.
* FreudianExcuse: Jerome's mischievious behavior is partially explained by the fact that his parents left him at House Of Anubis to get rid of him.
** Victor actually did see Sarah as a friend at one point, but his father changed all that.
** Joy manipulating Fabian, posting horrible slander about Nina on the school website to ruin her image and try to make her leave the school, and committing plagiarism are all due to her excuse of thinking Nina has stolen everything from her. {{Subverted}} from an InUniverse perspective though: She tries to invoke it to justify her behavior, but none of her friends are buying it.
* FriendshipMoment: There are a bunch on this show.
** When Victor is questioning the students about who stole the key to his office, Nina truthfully says she had taken it. Cue Fabian, Mick, Amber, Mara, and even Patricia--who had been bullying Nina since Nina arrived--and Jerome--who has a tendency to put himself first--jumping in and [[IAmSpartacus claiming it was them who'd taken the key.]]
** When Fabian had accidentally called Joy by the wrong name (due to an amnesia curse, but Joy didn't know that), Joy ran out crying, and Patricia followed her outside to make sure she was okay.
** After Nina came in crying about the mean article someone posted about her online, which had brought up some uncomfortable truths- like how she hadn't visited her hospitalized Grandmother in a long time- the rest of [[TrueCompanions Sibuna]] ran over to comfort her.
** Almost every time someone gets their heart broken, you can expect another character to be there for them. Examples include Nina comforting Amber, Amber comforting Nina, Willow comforting Joy, Joy and Mara comforting Willow, and just about everyone comforting Fabian.
** At the end of Season 3, when Joy and Jerome were still both heartbroken over what had happened episodes earlier, Mara (who had caused what happened, and had been trashing Joy for liking Jerome) and Alfie teamed up to get their friends back together.
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: While Jason is describing the acting exercise of using subtext to make the words "I love you" have different meanings, and Jerome and Mara are talking, Fabian and Mick can be seen in the background quickly backing away, and then later awkwardly doing the exercise.
** In another episode, while Patricia and Eddie are having a small argument, Sibuna's shocked faces in the scene make it hilarious. The fact that they all react in perfect unison sells it.
* GenreSavvy: Nina. When one of the clues is solved too easily (mostly because [[spoiler: Victor has already solved it]]), she immediately suspects something. And is usually right.
* GeniusDitz: Amber. While she isn't shown to be very smart overall, she does have many moments of genius and is very skilled at fashion. In the original Dutch version, she's more of an SpoiledSweet, with some ditzy moments.
* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: In ''House of Pests'', the students from Anubis House are forced to stay in the school when Victor fakes an infestation of mice. Mara suggests that she and Mick "set up camp" in one part of the school building. Trudy quickly stops them and says "boys in the classroom, girls over here." The fact that Mara wanted to sleep in the same area as Mick makes her intentions pretty clear.
** In House of Cheats, the drama teacher tells them to group up in pairs, and Mick and Fabian are grouped together. Then the teacher tells them to say "Three simple words; I love you." The guys look at each other, smile awkwardly, and step back from each other. This is also a bit of a FunnyBackgroundEvent.
* GhostButler: [[InvertedTrope Inverted]] in the first episode of the show: When Nina arrives at the house for the first time, the door opens to let her in without her touching it.
* GiveGeeksAChance: Done for both Fabian (the shy, nerdy guy who can hardly talk to people on some occasions without stammering) AND Alfie (the class clown obsessed with aliens, zombies, ninjas, etc.). Fabian has had two girls desperate for his attention and love, and Alfie had not only dated the beautiful blonde, but also has two other romantic interests as well. Seems the ladies in the house love the geeks.
* AGodAmI: Rufus does this in the Season 2 finale. [[spoiler: [[KilledOffForReal His delusions of Godhood don't last long though.]]]]
-->'''Rufus:''' [[LargeHam Prepare to bow down before me, mortals!]]
* [[spoiler:GodIsEvil: One of them, at least: Ammit]]
* GratuitousForeignLanguage: The science teacher says a lot of stuff in Latin that he could just say in English. [[YouAreTheTranslatedForeignWord Then he says them in English anyway.]]
* GreenEyedMonster: Joy towards Nina.
* HaHaHaNo: Fabian does this to Jerome in the first episode, following a remark Jerome made.
--> '''Jerome:''' Fabian, tell me, does it ever get boring always being the one to say 'that's not right' or 'cut it out' or 'fun is bad.'
--> '''Fabian:''' Hahaha no.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Nina, due to her MessianicArchetype tendencies.
** Amber qualifies, too.
* HeadDesk: Jerome makes this a trademark in season 2 as his efforts to help his father keep hitting walls.
* HeelFaceTurn: Patricia. She's initially very hostile toward Nina, as she suspects Nina of being involved in Joy's disapppearance, but she later realizes that she's wrong and apologizes for her behavior. However, it takes her several episodes to completely trust Nina.
** Aside from Victor, the rest of the Society seems to have pulled one as well, at least in the sense of no longer showing any interest in becoming immortal. In particular, Mr. Sweet seems to find Victor's obsession a little frightening.
* TheHero: Nina and Fabian.
* HeroicBSOD: Happens a few times on the show.
** Fabian gets this when he learns Jasper lied to him and whenever Nina disappeared.
** Jerome also got this once when he discovered Rufus was still alive and that he was working for him again.
** This happened to Eddie, too, when he learned his father, Mr. Sweet, was a member of Team Evil.
** Nina, when she accidentally poisoned Alfie, leading to a TenMinuteRetirement from Sibuna.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler: Joy]] takes a bolt of lighting from a possessed Nina in order to protect Fabian. Victor [[spoiler: gives up the last tear of gold to save her.]]
** Moments earlier, [[spoiler: Nina]] tried to make one by allowing Senkhara to take her to the afterlife in exchange for removing the curses from her friends and [[spoiler: her grandmother]], but [[spoiler: Eddie, the Osirian]] was having none of it.
* HiddenDepths: Amber of all people is a ''ping-pong'' champion (3 years). She's so good she can knock a ping-pong ball away with a hairbrush, ''without even looking or trying''.
** Jerome Clarke. In the beginning of the show he is shown as nothing more than a [[TheChessmaster manipulative jerk]] who will even trick his best friend into humiliating himself for a cheap laugh. However, later on he reveals a softer, more sensitive side to Mara Jaffray, including the truth that his [[ParentalAbandonment family abandoned him when he was five years old.]] He reverts back to his old self after Mara and her old boyfriend get back together, to the point where he helps the antagonist, but even then his hidden depths are still showing as he proves to be more of a misunderstood [[Anti-Hero Anti-Hero]] than the minor antagonist he was originally portrayed as.
** Victor Rodenmaar. Despite being one of the main antagonists, he proves himself as being more good than bad deep down inside, and it is shown that the way he acts mainly stems from his desperation to finish his fatherís quest, and the[[AbusiveParents abuse his father had inflicted on him]] when he was a child.
* HeyYou: Eddie almost always calls Patricia by an insult, "Yacker." This insult takes on a different meaning when they start dating.
* HiddenHeartOfGold:
** Jerome Clarke. When you first meet him, he is shown as a [[ManipulativeBastard manipulative, uncaring person]] who will gladly blackmail his other housemates and trick his best friend into humiliating himself. However, eventually it is discovered that he really does have a heart, shown when he gets closer to Mara Jaffray, his friend and future love interest. The longer the show goes on, the more his good side is shown, from struggling to help his [[ParentalAbandonment formerly missing father]] fix their past to protecting and aiding his fellow students when it is needed.
** Victor also fits this trope. Despite being the villain, he is proven to really care about the students deep down, when he kicked Vera out for hurting the students and sacrificing his last tear of gold to save a dying Joy Mercer.
* HiddenInPlainSight: Robert Frobisher-Smythe hid the Mask Of Anubis this way. It was actually quite brilliant: He placed the Mask in the tunnels and protected it with a series of tasks designed to keep people away from it. Anyone would assume that the Mask he'd gone to so much trouble to protect must be the real one, but when they reached the end of the tasks, they would discover that [[spoiler: the Mask in the tunnels was a replica and that the real one had been donated to a museum disguised as a replica.]]
* HiddenVillain: The Collector, the BigBad of Season 2. Revealed to be [[spoiler: Rufus Zeno]].
* HistoricalInJoke: Robert Frobisher-Smythe was part of Howard Carter's famous expidition into King Tut's tomb.
* HookedUpAfterwards: [[spoiler:Fabian and Mara]] in "Touchstone of Ra".
* HopelessSuitor: Joy is this for Fabian, having liked him for at least a year BEFORE Nina even knew Fabian. [[spoiler:even AFTER Nina leaves, Fabian still turns her down, and rather rudely too.]]
* IBrokeANail: Spoken word for word by [[{{Fashionista}} Amber]]:
--> '''Patricia:''' [[SarcasmMode I hope the sight of us working hard doesn't bother you.]]
--> '''Eddie:''' You're a couple of strong, 21st century women. What do you need my help for?
--> '''Amber:''' I broke a nail...
--> '''Eddie:''' Go sisterhood!
* IdiosyncraticEpisodeNaming: Each episode so far has been titled "House Of _____", except the final special "Touchstone of Ra"
* IdiotBall: The main characters have an annoying habit of letting Victor in on their suspicions of him. Up until Rufus comes along, Sibuna believes he's responsible for Joy's disappearance and is up to something sinister. Instead of keeping secret about it like someone normally would do, they talk about it openly in front of each other and their classmates. Amber is the worst offender as her DumbBlonde status makes her ask about it in class. Her defense? She was trying to get information.
** [[spoiler: In one episode the group finds a picture of Victor Sr. and a Victor Jr. They instantly assume that the Jr. is the Victor they know and throw out the potion of immortality theory. They never assume that the one they know might have a son, nor do they stop and think that even Victor Jr. would be around 80 without the potion.]]
** Hey, so we know all this information on the secrets of the house that would probably get us killed or seriously injured if they knew that we knew. Clearly, the best idea here is to put on a play about it that everyone will see.
** Jerome and Joy both get one, when they are kept in the gatehouse, along with Patricia and Alfie, to do an 'extra credit' project for their teacher, based around an eclipse coming up. Patricia and Alfie are aware that it's really [[spoiler:ceremony to awaken Robert Frobisher-Smythe.]] Jerome and Joy, however, refuse to believe them. This wouldn't be so bad... except Jerome and Joy both dealt with the mysteries in both of the past two seasons. Heck, Joy had even been part of Sibuna in the beginning of that very season, and Patricia and Alfie are their best friends. Joy even had to deal directly with weird supernatural type stuff like this when she was thought to be the Chosen One in the first season. Neither of them had any reason not to believe Patricia and Alfie.
*** This was [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] by Alfie-
--> '''Alfie:''' [[CallBack Ceremonies, Bad teachers, great evil, does none of this ring a bell to you?]]
** Later KT gets a minor idiot ball. In an effort to convince her that Fabian was turned into a sinner, Alfie mentioned that he had talked to Joy, who was crying in the hallway after Fabian verbally trashed her. KT argued that she saw Fabian and Joy and Fabian didn't even say anything. The problem is, Alfie wasn't there with her- so how would he have known about Fabian and Joy, unless Joy told him herself? She also tried to go visit the gatehouse in the middle of the night for... some reason... without telling anyone she was going. Of course, she was nearly captured by Robert.
** Fabian is not immune either. Robert was lying on the floor of his bedroom, looking weak and begging for help. Rather than let the guy who he KNOWS is evil just rot, he decided to help. Fabian was then taken to the gatehouse, and Robert claimed he wanted Fabian to help lift a curse and take over his research when he died. Fabian, of course, accepted, and even [[TooDumbToLive WENT TO THE TANK ROOM WITH HIM.]] Gosh Fabian, you were always gullible, but... really?
** Sibuna in general seem to fall prey to this. How many times will they talk loudly about their plans in the hall, or allow themselves to get tricked by the villains? A lot, apparently.
* IAmSpartacus: Happens in the tenth episode after Alfie's head is stuck in a stag's head. [[spoiler: Everyone tries to take the fall for Nina after she returns the spare attic key.]]
* IconicItem: Nina's locket, so much so that when Fabian and Patricia see that Eddie has her locket in Season 3, they jump to the conclusion that Eddie and Nina were secretly dating over the summer, since Nina wouldn't give her locket to just anybody.
** Also, Victor's pin.
* [[IdenticalGrandson Identical Great-Grandchildren]]: Patricia's, Alfie's, Joy's, and Jerome's great-grandparents apparently looked exactly like them.
** Victor looks exactly like his father. They also have the same name, to boot.
* IfYouEverDoAnythingToHurtHer: Mara pulled this on Jerome, warning her that she'll go after him if he ever breaks Joy's heart. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] in that he had cheated on Mara herself earlier in the season and she didn't want to let Joy get hurt. Jerome was good natured about it and agreed with the threat.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: [[spoiler: Joy Mercer]] wanted a normal life during season 1, when she was [[spoiler: being held up like a prisoner in her own house and forced to never contact her friends because she was the 'Chosen One'.]]
** Later on she DOES get her normal life, as it is discovered [[spoiler: she is not the Chosen One at all.]]
* IKnowYouKnowIKnow: Amber does this in ''House of Betrayal", except it's more like "We know they know we know."
* IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight: Happens between Eddie and Patricia when Patricia is turned into a sinner. He begs her to try and remember how she felt about him, because she still had all of her memories, but none of the feelings. They ended up kissing, but it is unknown if the real Patricia actually slipped out, or if it was all part of the plan to get [[UnwittingPawn Eddie and KT to accidentally unleash Ammit]].
* {{Immortality}}: Obtained if you drink the Elixir of Life from the Cup of Ankh. But [[spoiler: [[EquivalentExchange someone else will die if you do.]]]]
* ImmortalitySeeker: Victor and his society, as well as Rufus Zeno. Victor's father had been after it as well, which meant Victor's basic goal was to finish his father's dream. Other members of the society had different goals as well; While most were selfish, it is known that Jason was dying of a degenerative illness, and would have died young unless he obtained the immortality. It is unknown what Rufus's larger goal was, but he was certainly more ruthless about it, willing to kill people if it got him what he wanted.
* InappropriateHunger: Happens once with Alfie:
-->'''Amber:''' Alfie, how could you possibly be eating at a time like this?
-->'''Alfie:''' I always eat when I'm scared. Or nervous. Or...happy, come to think of it.
-->'''Amber:''' Or any day with a 'y' in it...
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: Willow. Miss Denby and Robert Frobisher-Smythe tried to turn her into a sinner, but they couldn't get her to sin, no matter what they tried.
* IncrediblyLamePun: Two within the same episode!
-->'''Amber:'''(to Mick after [[spoiler:breaking up with Mara]]) Trouble in ''Mara''dise?

-->'''Alfie:'''(after security footage shows Victor cleaning his nose hairs) Show another tape, it seems you've got a ''nose'' for comedy!
* InitiationCeremony: Patricia's fake initiation ceremony for Nina included both having to steal from their house father, to sneaking into the forbidden (and rumored to be haunted) attic at midnight, with the goals of getting Nina scared, humiliated, and into trouble. In the end she even locked Nina up there.
** Of course, Nina passed with flying colors (but was indeed terrified.)
* InsaneTrollLogic: Joy, someone cannot steal your "boyfriend" if the two of you aren't dating.
* InsultOfEndearment: Eddie initially calls Patricia "Yacker" as an insult, but it becomes an AffectionateNickname when they start dating.
* IronicName: It seems that Joy's name will never fit her life, considering she was kidnapped, the boy she loved for a while rejected her constantly and rather harshly, her friends all seemed to like Nina more, and when she finally fell in love again it was ripped away from her at the end. No wonder her nickname is Joyless...
* ISeeDeadPeople: This is one of Nina's abilities as the ChosenOne. For instance, she could see and talk to Victor Rodenmaar, Sr., when she was trapped in the Sennet game. And she can see Senkhara. [[ItSucksToBeTheChosenOne Though this isn't]] [[BlessedWithSuck exactly a good thing.]]
* IsItAlwaysLikeThis: It happens a few times in the show:
--> '''Eddie:''' Is your friend [Patricia] always so..?
--> '''Joy:''' Yep.

--> '''Fabian:''' She's [Patricia] not always like this, you know.
--> '''Nina:''' [[SarcasmMode Don't tell me; this is her warm and fuzzy side?]]

--> '''KT:''' What are we going to do, follow her? ''({{beat}})'' We're following her, aren't we?
--> '''Eddie:''' You're starting to get the hang of how things work around here.
* ItSucksToBeTheChosenOne: [[SubvertedTrope Subverted.]] [[spoiler: Joy is kept hidden away, unable to see her friends from school or have any contact with the outside world, plus she [[IJustWantToBeNormal just wants to be normal.]]]] While this might ''seem'' like ItSucksToBeTheChosenOne, [[spoiler: the ''real'' chosen one doesn't have it nearly so bad.]]
** Played Straight in season 2, where a dark spirit is making the Chosen One's life a living hell.
* ItsWhatIDo: Happens many times.
--> '''Amber:''' Joy, chill, this is how we roll.

--> '''Jerome:''' It's a bonding thing. Some guys go fishing....Clarkes track down priceless gems. It's how we roll.

--> '''Nina:''' ''(about Patricia after [[FoodSlap she dumped milk on Eddie's head)]]'' Yeah...she does that.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Joy in the Season 2 Finale, when she encourages Fabian to go be with Nina. Friendship version in Season 3 where [[spoiler: Mara tells Joy to be with Jerome, though she hates Jerome.]]
* JawDrop: Alfie does this when seeing Joy's new look in season 3. Patricia closes his mouth.
* JerkAss: Patricia all the way. Right from the beginning she's rude, hostile and downright vicious to poor Nina, who doesn't have a clue as to what she's done to earn her wrath. She goes back and forth between being decent to a downright little witch throughout the series. The way she just splashed water all over her friend Amber after she told Nina something she wasn't supposed to was crossing a line. Her attitude was alienating the rest of her friends and Fabian even calls her out on it.
-->'''Patricia:''' Since when did you become ''her'' friend instead of mine, Fabian?\\
'''Fabian:''' Since you became such a witch, Patricia.
** Jerome is one as well, considering all the stuff he's done. At least Patricia got better.
** Eddie. Even Patricia thinks he's a royal jackass and coming from her that says a lot.
** Joy, in Season 2. She acts like a jerk to Nina, even [[spoiler: writing a vicious attack article about Nina]] all because of [[GreenEyedMonster jealousy]] over the fact that Fabian loves Nina and not her.
** Arguably Fabian for a few episodes in the final arc of Season 2 seemingly justified however considering [[spoiler: his along with all of his friend's lives were on the line]]
* JerkAssBall: There's one part in season three where Fabian rejects Joy. Being the [[NiceGuy nicest guy in the house]] next to Alfie, one would expect him to let her down gently like he'd done all throughout season two. Instead he rejected her in an incredibly harsh way, leaving her utterly heartbroken and to quit Sibuna.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Patricia, Eddie, Jerome, and to a lesser degree, Victor.
* JustFriends: Between [[OfficialCouple Nina and Fabian.]]
* KarmaHoudini:
** [[TheDragon Vera]], for the villainous example. She did plenty of horrible things, like kidnap Trudy, and many fans were crying out for her karma. In the end, however, she literally was just told to walk offscreen and that was the end of it.
** For the heroic examples, we have [[TheHero Nina]] and [[AdorkAble Mara.]]
*** Nina was a little understandable at least. While she was incredibly difficult to her friends, she was under a lot of pressure, and [[ButtMonkey the universe seemed out to make her miserable.]] So while she didn't get karma directly for her actions, she did not escape without being hurt for other reasons.
*** Mara, on the other hand, was worse than Nina--while Nina just yelled at her friends a lot, Mara tried to humiliate [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Jerome]] by having Joy, her best friend, pretend to fall for him, then dump him in front of everyone when he truly fell for her as revenge for him cheating on her. Then, once it became apparent Joy had grown feelings for Jerome, she lashed out at her, too. In the end she was quickly redeemed by getting Jerome and Joy back together, and [[EasilyForgiven nobody had any hard feelings on her.]] Problem is, with any other character, they'd have gotten some form of karma for their actions, [[AllTheOtherReindeer usually by being ostracized.]] But for both Nina and Mara nobody even bothered to try and call them out on anything they did.
* KarmicDeath: [[spoiler: Rufus]].
* KickTheDog: Vera does this many times in the second season. Her notable ones include the time she convinced Victor to steal the Ox Bell needed for the next task from the exhibition, and then frame one of the Sibunas- one of the first times one of the teachers actually expressed a desire to hurt the students instead of just stopping them from completing their mystery, and then again when she kidnaps Trudy and sends him off to The Collector, after Trudy confronted her about the theft. There was also the time she expressed absolutely no care when Alfie fell through the floor during senet- an action that [[EvenEvilHasStandards even Victor found disgusting.]] And these are just a few of her horrible, horrible moments.
** Caroline Denby, in the third season, got a bit worse about her puppy punting than Vera did. Most notably, when she planted fake evidence of cheating on Eddie's computer and tricked Patricia into reading it, effectively breaking her heart and making her break down in tears for the first time in the show. This was only days after she and Eddie had gotten back together, and Denby's motive was nothing more than trying to provoke Patricia into being a sinner. It worked.
** Once a sinner, Patricia herself crossed this, same as Fabian and Alfie.
*** Patricia crossed it by tricking everyone into thinking KT was the sinner, and then constantly taunting KT at each chance she had about it. There was a subtle one where she promised to bring KT breakfast- Sibuna had locked her in their bedroom- and when the others left, she threw the food away instead.
*** Fabian did his kicking when he pointlessly gave Joy a verbal trashing, after Joy had been heartbroken, rejected by Mara, and had turned to him specifically for comfort. He had hugged her, and then whispered to her a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech that KT, who was in the room, could not hear, leaving Joy almost completely broken that night...and he had not been planning on making her a sinner, and was just doing this for some sadistic fun.
*** Sinner!Alfie had his very early in his time as a sinner. Right after being turned, he began taunting Willow and broke up with her...then proceeded to flirt with Mara and Joy directly in front of her, as she was crying. Made even worse by the fact that their relationship was possibly the healthiest on the show up to that point, and Willow has always been one of the nicest people on the show, period.
* KickThemWhileTheyreDown: Joy was completely heartbroken by Jerome dumping her in front of the entire school during a play and turned to Fabian, her long time best friend, for advice. He instead hurt her even worse, because being a sinner, he had no sympathy for her and instead tore up her self-esteem when it was low to begin with. The other villains tend to do this a lot, too.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:Sarah]]
** Seemingly [[spoiler: Rufus]] as of Season 2, as a local paper runs an obituary for his alias, Renee Zeldman. Ultimately subverted, as it turned out he faked it.
*** Played straight in the finale, he gets an on-screen death.
* LampshadeHanging: The [[TheMovie The Touchstone Of Ra]] had a lot of these moments.
** After finding out the class field trip was to an Egyptian museum, Jerome remarked, "Why is it always Egypt?"
** After Victor dropped his pin, Dexter excitedly said, "That's like his [[CatchPhrase Catchphrase!]]" Jerome responded with, "Dude, we know."
** Patricia's tendency to pour drinks on people was lampshaded by her two attempts to do it to the new students, and how she was automatically stopped both times.
* TheLeader: Nina Martin.
** When Nina leaves in season 3, Eddie takes this role.
* LightIsNotGood: A very small subtle example: [[spoiler: In the Season 2 finale, we see a very bright light, which implies to lead into the Egyptian afterlife. But Nina is heading toward it, with Senkhara possessing her... if she'd actually succeeded in going in, they'd never see them again. ([[FridgeHorror and who knows what Senkhara would have done with the power of gods...]])]]
* LovableJock: Mickis a jock, yes, but also thought to be one of the sweetest and funniest people in the house.
* LovableNerd: Both Fabian and Mara.
* LoveTriangle: Amber/Mick/Mara/Alfie in Season 1, Nina/Fabian/Joy in Season 2, Mick/Mara/Jerome in both seasons.
* MakingUseOfTheTwin: [[spoiler: Patricia's twin, Piper, is played by Jade Ramsey's [[RealLifeRelative real life twin]] Nikita.]]
* ManipulativeBastard: Jerome
* MessianicArchetype: Nina being concerned about Victor's health when Senkhara threatens him pushes her into this territory. She takes it UpToEleven in the finale, when she pleads with Rufus not to put on the Mask of Anubis and fights to prevent him from doing so. The whole time, she gives off the impression that she's worried about what will happen to him if he puts on the Mask. You can't get much more Messiah-like than being concerned about the well-being of a [[TheSociopath sociopath]] who would just as soon kill you as look at you.
* MistakenForCheating: Eddie begins to believe towards the end of season 2 that Patricia is seeing someone else because of how often she disappears without telling him why, and he suspects it might be Alfie. He eventually follows her, Fabian and Alfie when they leave [[ItMakesSenseInContext for the barn]] and finds out the truth.
** Patricia later believes Eddie himself was cheating on her season 3. In the beginning, she and Fabian believe that Eddie and Nina had a summer romance and that's why Nina didn't come back, because of some emails they found on Eddie's computer and the fact that he had Nina's locket. It turned out that Nina gave him the locket because he might need it, and the emails were about the whole Chosen One and Osirian thing. Later on, Miss Denby tricks Patricia into believing Eddie is cheating on her by placing fake messages on his laptop and manipulating her into reading them. It doesn't get resolved too easily, as Patricia turns into a sinner for getting upset over this, which was the whole plan. Both times, this was PlayedForDrama rather than laughs.
* TheMole: [[spoiler: Trudy's replacement]], introduced in ''House Of Protection'', is revealed to be TheMole for someone outside of the house.
* MomentKiller: Aggravatingly often, usually something mundane. It's a favorite trick of the writers, and has happened to basically every pairing on the show at least once. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by Nina in the season one finale, just before Fabian asks her to the prom.
--> '''[[GenreSavvy Nina:]]''' Now hurry up before there's an earthquake, or a swarm of locusts, or anything else that stops you from asking!
* MoreThanMindControl: Turning someone into a Sinner requires that they be manipulated into showing one of the five sins, and then, at noon or midnight, they need to be dragged unwillingly into a sarcophagus.
* MysteriousWaif: Sarah seems to be a rare elderly example.
* MythologyGag: A couple to the original ''Het Huis Anubis'':
** Amber and Nina becoming roommates in Season 1 reflects the fact that their Dutch counterparts were roommates.
** Early in Season 1, Victor gives his "pin drop" speech, then shouts "I can still hear something!" Alfie runs by and responds "We still have three minutes." This was a RunningGag in the Dutch version.
* NewAgeRetroHippie: Willow. She claims to be able to sense "vibes" (and, according to her, bad vibes can be removed by sprinkling citrus oil everywhere), and she meditates frequently and loudly, much to her roommate Mara's chagrin. She even has her own online guru.
* NewTransferStudent: Nina in Season 1, Eddie in Season 2, KT and Willow in Season 3.
* NobleDemon: Although [[spoiler: Jason Winkler]] joins the Society and thus becomes one of the bad guys, he is still shown to be a generally nice guy. Of course, he only joins the Society because [[spoiler: he has a degenerative disease and will die unless he gains immortality by drinking out of the Cup.]] Mr. Sweet and Ms. Andrews also show themselves to be concerned for the students as well. (Such as when [[spoiler: Rufus kidnaps Patricia.]])
** Victor as well, demonstrated on multiple occasions.
* NoMacGuffinNoWinner: Sort of. The McGuffin is used once, but the accompanying elixir necessary to use it turns out to be fake, so it doesn't work. The end of the series has the McGuffin buried under the house, with only the heroes, (and possibly only one of them), knowing where it is.
** Again at the end of Season 2: Presumably, the Mask of Anubis will now leave the house with the rest of the Egyptian exhibition, putting it out of reach of both sides. Even if it doesn't, the only person in the house who can use it has no intention of doing so.
* NoMrBondIExpectYouToDine: Happens in Season 3. Miss Denby catches Patricia sneaking around by the gatehouse with Denby's bag. In the next scene with them we see Denby and Patricia were simply 'having a nice tea' while Denby was interrogating Patricia in the nicest manner possible. Patricia was visibly horrified the entire time, because who knows what Denby would have done if she really tried to flee or fight?
* NoNameGiven: Just where do these kids go to school?
* NoodleIncident: A non-comedic example from Season 3: [[spoiler: Patricia and Eddie broke up]] for an unspecified reason.
* NotHimself: When [[spoiler: Fabian and Alfie]] become sinners, everyone is scared because they are acting like total jerks, when in reality [[spoiler: they are two of the nicest people in the house.]]
* NotEvenBotheringWithAnExcuse: Jerome does this when everyone is leaving the sit-down strike, and Victor threatens to expel them. At least the other students had genuine reasons why they didn't want to stay.
--> '''Mick:''' Thing is...it's this sports scholarship. I need a good...reference from the school...
--> '''Mara:''' And there's a class on sea-cows I really want to take. Sorry, Patricia.
--> '''Alfie:''' Yeah, my parental units would kill me if I got expelled from yet another school.
--> '''[[JerkAss Jerome:]]''' I'm out too. It was a dumb idea anyways.
* ObliviousToLove: Fabian seems like this for a while.
** In the majority of the first two seasons, Mara is painfully oblivious to Jerome's crush on her. (She is also somehow oblivious to the entire mystery but that's a different story.) It gets to where she fake dates him to make her long distance ex jealous, and this exchange occurs:
--> '''Mara:''' Look at these pictures, it looks like you're really in love.
--> '''Jerome:''' ''(staring at her longingly and not listening)'' What?
--> '''Mara:''' I said, you're a really great actor.
* OddNameOut: The Clarke Family goes as follows--John Clarke, Joan Clarke, Jerome Clarke, and...Poppy Clarke.
* OfficialCouple: Nina and Fabian (though they try to deny it...see EveryoneCanSeeIt and SheIsNotMyGirlfriend). Then [[RealLifeWritesThePlot Season 3 happened]]...
* OffscreenBreakup: Happens to Patricia and Eddie. As such a beloved couple, the fans were outraged and confused when they broke up over the summer with no given explanation. It's speculated that Patricia broke up with him because the relationship was moving too fast, but it was still jarring to the fans.
** There are also some breakups that might not have even happened at all. The characters just moved on to other people without actually splitting.
* OlderThanTheyLook: [[spoiler: Victor is really ninety-five.]] Ditto for [[spoiler: Rufus Zeno]] and, in "Touchstone of Ra", [[spoiler:Sophia]].
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: KT. Her real name is Kara Tatianna, but no one calls her that.
* OnlySaneEmployee: Trudy does pretty much all the actual running of the House with no help from Victor. All Victor does is creep around and hand out punishments to the kids when they get too close to his secrets [[FridgeLogic which is what lets them know they're getting close]].
** And lets the viewers know they're about to go to commercial.
* OnlyThePureOfHeart: The Mask of Anubis works this way. See below.
** Also, only the pure of heart may lift the sleeping curse off of Robert Frobisher-Smythe, or he'll wake up evil.
* OnlyTheWorthyMayPass: Anyone who wears the real Mask of Anubis will go to the afterlife, but they must be pure of heart to enter. [[spoiler: When Rufus wore it, he was immediately deemed unworthy, then he and Senkhara were dragged downward through a hellish portal.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: When Patricia, [[spoiler: held captive by Caroline Denby]], calls Eddie, he catches on that something's wrong when [[{{Tsundere}} she's polite to him.]]
* OperationJealousy: Happens twice.
** Mara and Jerome (who of course, had an [[ObliviousToLove insane crush on Mara)]] started to fake date to make Mara's ex jealous. This ex happened to have moved to Australia and was wrongly quoted to have had a new girlfriend, and of course he did not and was actually talking about Mara. In the end Mara claimed she was just dating Jerome because ''people were teasing him for not having a girlfriend'', leading to Jerome's [[ItMeantSomethingToMe confusion and annoyance.]]
** The second time is when Eddie started to get really close to Mara to make Patricia, who was still his girlfriend, jealous until she explained why she had been mad at him that whole time. He later admitted he was glad when she got jealous because it proved she liked him back.
* OutOfCharacterAlert: Several times.
** Patricia being polite over the phone was enough to let everyone know that she wasn't alone.
** Fabian taunting Joy is what made Alfie realize Fabian was a sinner. And whenever he's upset, you ''know'' things aren't going well.
-->'''Joy:''' Fabian said that no one ever liked me, and that I should be happy that someone was stupid enough to date me.
-->'''Alfie:''' Fabian? You mean, [[NiceGuy sweet, nice-to-everyone]] Fabian?
* OvernightAgeUp: Happens to Amber after she is cursed by Senkhara.
* TheParagon: Nina is explicitly referred to as this during Season 2.
* ParentalBetrayal: Done by [[spoiler: Mr. Sweet, Eddie's father.]] A bit of dramatic irony, too, as the viewers and the rest of Sibuna knew that Mr. Sweet was a member of Team Evil but nobody told [[spoiler: Eddie,]] and when he found out he was completely devastated. Gets even worse after [[spoiler: Mr.Sweet]] starts proactively manipulating Sibuna to further the plans of his own team- and knowingly hurting [[spoiler: Eddie]] in the process.
* PluckyComicRelief: Alfie. This is PlayedWith in later seasons, though, since he gets just as deep into the action as everyone else instead of being a funny side character.
* PolarOppositeTwins: [[spoiler: Patricia and Piper. Patricia is the bold, [[TomBoy tomboyish]], defiant and rude one; Piper is highly talented in piano, very sweet and polite, and much less inclined to make big moves out of fear of failure than her {{Determinator}} sister is. It's pretty obvious when you compare their crushes--Patricia likes JerkWithAHeartOfGold Eddie, while Piper likes the NiceGuy ClassClown Alfie.]]
* PortmanteauCoupleName: Fabina. It's even used InUniverse, coined by ShipperOnDeck Amber.
** That's not the end of it. There's also... Jabian (Joy/Fabian, another one that has appeared on the show), Peddie (Patricia/Eddie), Jara (Jerome/Mara), Amfie (Amber/Alfie, also appearing on the show), Mickra (Mick and Mara), and that's just scratching the surface. Really, any possible pairing on this show will have one of these names. There have even been arguments over which name is the 'official' one to use.
* ThePowerOfFriendship: This seems to be the main reason Sibuna keep winning. Fabian makes a speech about it in season 2, even, claiming that while the teachers have more of the advantages, they have the team, and they'd win because they wouldn't let each other fail.
* ThePrankster: Alfie and Jerome.
* PrecisionFStrike:
-->'''Jerome:''' Wow, our school really does suck at sports.
* ProphecyTwist: In [[TheMovie The Touchstone Of Ra]], there is a prophecy about, well, the touchstone of Ra--whoever touched the stone will be turned into stone themselves, unless the Osirian makes the ultimate sacrifice- their life. Eddie was ready to [[HeroicSacrifice die and save his friends,]] but when it was over, it instead turned out that he had instead lost his powers- The Osirian did die, as in there would be no more Osirians, but Eddie survived.
* ProudToBeAGeek: Fabian gave us this little gem (after everyone teased him for being a nerd):
--> '''Fabian:''' So I'm a massive nerd. There's nothing wrong with that! It's geeks like me who invented the telephone, the internet, and basically all the things you couldn't live without...
* RealityWarper: Senkhara's powers have shades of this. [[spoiler: She's marked most of the cast with the Mark of Anubis ''in their dreams''; caused Fabian's memory to fail, Alfie to age backwards and Amber forward, and Patrica to lose her voice; and forced a non-stone TakenForGranite state on Vera.]]
* RealLifeWritesThePlot: Nathalia Ramos decided to take a break from acting to go to college, so Nina won't be returning for Season 3.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Ms. Denby from Season 3 is quite fond of tearing into Victor for his failures, so far.
** Sinner!Fabian delivered two of them, to Joy and Alfie respectively. To Joy, he had whispered to her that nobody liked her, and she should just shut up and be glad anyone was stupid enough to date her...[[KickTheDog this was when she had come to him seeking out comfort after her recent heartbreak.]] To Alfie, he taunted him for thinking he could stop him and rescue the unknowing KT, and claimed, "You always get it wrong, Alfie. You're the joke of the group. I will always be two steps ahead of you." Then, in a CrowningMomentOfAwesome, Alfie ended up fearlessly standing up to him, delivering one very effective line that was enough to get the supposedly uncaring Sinner enraged.
--> '''Alfie:''' What are you going to do, attack me? Yeah, umm, you're not exactly the most ''sporty'' person ever. [[BerserkButton Maybe that's why Nina left you.]]
* {{Recut}}: Sort of. Nick is running all of the episodes again, but with some new lines of dialogue added in.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: [[spoiler:Those possessed by Ammit sport them during important moments, or in surges of extreme emotion.]]
* TheReveal: The Collector is [[spoiler: Rufus Zeno]].
* RunningGag: Patricia dumping drinks on people when she's angry, Characters being late for curfew and thus getting yelled at by Victor, Sibuna characters being late for classes, Joy being "Joyless", Alfie freaking out about some imaginary threat, Jerome and Alfie teaming up, and more.
** Each season has their own, as well.
*** Season 1--Patricia asking where Joy is, Nina stating the fact that she's American, Jerome walking in on Sibuna meetings, [[BadLiar Nina]] trying to lie.
*** Season 2--[[PortmanteauCoupleName Fabina]] failing to have an actual date, Eddie and his love for pancakes, Patricia failing to be romantic, Fabian being teased for being a nerd.
*** Season 3--Alfie interrupting Jerome and Mara, KT stating that she's at the school to "stop a great evil", Willow "Squee-ing", Eddie claiming he's the Osirian.
*** Touchstone Of Ra--The new kids interrupting things, characters making fun of Patricia's dress, {{lampshading}}.
* SadisticChoice: Joy and Fabian are given a choice at the end of season 2 - the mask or their trapped friends. They chose their friends.
* ScholarshipStudent: Once again, Nina
* SelfDeprecation: In-universe example:
-->'''Nina:''' I guess I am a little scared. The last time I felt like this, I threw up on my kindergarten teacher.\\
'''Driver:''' No, that'd just be my driving.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Fabian is the sensitive one, being an {{Adorkable}} ExtremeDoormat, while Eddie is a bit TroubledButCute. Same story with Fabian and LovableJock Mick.
** Also with Manipulative, JerkWithAHeartOfGold Jerome (manly) and {{Adorkable}} ClassClown Alfie (sensitive).
* SettleForSibling: In season two, Eddie brings this up when he thinks Patricia and Alfie might be into each other, stating that it might be what Alfie is thinking.
--> '''Eddie:''' Well, he was into [[PolarOppositeTwins Piper,]] maybe you're just the next best twin!
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: Fabian to Nina, and vice versa. [[EveryoneCanSeeIt Amber thinks they go on "secret dates."]]
* ShippingTorpedo: The show had at least one for every couple on the show. Most infamous, though, would probably be Joy, who made no secret of her love for Fabian or her dislike for him and Nina dating.
* ShipTease: Quite a bit, Nina/Fabian, Mick/Mara, Mara/Jerome, Alfie/Patricia.
* [[ShipperOnDeck Shippers On Deck]]: When Nina and Fabian reunite, ''all of Anubis house'' surround them, clapping and hugging.
** Amber is definitely this for Nina and Fabian. Not only did she start to ship them by the second episode, she made them a couple's scrapbook, made them prom king and queen, and basically did everything in her power to get the pairing together.
** Joy could also be considered this for Patricia and Eddie. While she was not exactly pushing as much as Amber was, she did try and get Patricia to be with Eddie.
* ShoutOut: In the first scene, Nina says she "feels like Franchise/HarryPotter." Later she also mutters "Welcome to Hogwarts."
** Villain/s search for the relic/s that will provide immortality. Also, they mistook "The Chosen One" when there are two girls born in July on the same date. Significant differences aside, Joy and Nina are like the {{Distaff Counterpart}}s of Neville and Harry.
** One scene has Alfie get a deer head stuck on his head. He says that the half animal thing might be a hit with the ladies, then comments that "It seems to work for that [[Literature/{{Twilight}} Jacob Black]] dude and Amber loves him."
** The thick-as-thieves pranksters, Alfie and Jerome, have the last names of [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lewis_and_Clark_Expedition Lewis and Clark]], respectively. Victor sequentially makes mention of their last names twice, so it's more than likely not a coincidence. [[note]]Note that Jerome's is spelled Clarke.[[/note]]
** In ''House Of Cameras'':
-->'''Nina:''' We're going to need a little help from our favorite comedy double act.\\
'''Amber:''' [[SpongebobSquarepants Spongebob and Patrick?]]
** Amber says Nina and Fabian are just like [[ScoobyDoo Scooby and Shaggy]].
** Jerome's dad says that "He knows he hasn't been the best dad" and Jerome answers "[[StarWars Darth Vader]] has nothing on you."
** ''Film/FightClub'' reference:
-->'''Amber''': The first rule of Sibuna is you do not talk about Sibuna!
** In "House of Sarcophagi", Fabian says [[Film/TheSixthSense "I see dead people"]]
* ShutUpKiss: Patricia does this to Eddie when Eddie is trying to get a reaction out of her and he didn't know she was cursed and made mute.
--> '''Eddie:''' C'mon, you're killing me! What do I have to do to get a reaction out of-- ''(Patricia kisses him)'' That'll work...
** Eddie also does it back to Patricia when she is yelling at him, angry that he 'stood her up' when in reality he was kidnapped.
--> '''Eddie:''' Sorry I stood you up, Yacker.
--> '''Patricia:''' It's okay...
* SignificantBirthDate: The ChosenOne is born on a specific day at a specific time once every 75 years. [[spoiler: Joy Mercer]] was believed to be it because she was born at 7:00 PM on the 7th day of the 7th month. [[spoiler:But it was really Nina, as she was born on the true 7th hour- 7:00 AM.]]
** Sarah Frobisher-Smythe, the former Chosen One, was born on 1:00 on the 1st of January.
* SixthRanger: Jerome who technically joins Sibuna for protection from his "boss" [[BigBad Rufus Zeno]]. Joins up with Sibuna again in Season 2 [[spoiler:So they could rescue Trudy who had been kidnapped by Rufus.]]
** Joy also counts as she was important to the mystery in the first season and was added into Sibuna by the end of season 2 [[spoiler:after helping to rescue Nina from under the Senet board]]. In season 3 she is a full member of the team, [[spoiler:but she quits after Fabian breaks her heart.]]
* SmartPeopleKnowLatin: Eric Sweet is versed in Latin and routinely spouts Latin phrases, presumably to demonstrate how smart he is.
* SnarkToSnarkCombat: Patricia and Eddie do this a lot as part of their BelligerentSexualTension. The best example, though, has to be when they first met:
-->'''Patricia:''' ''(after she accidentally walks into his legs, which were hanging off the arms of a couch)'' Stick your feet in, will you?
-->'''Eddie:''' You woke me!\\
'''Patricia:''' Yeah, well, student lounges are for lounging, not sleeping. Clue's in the name?\\
'''Eddie:''' Okay, look. I was on a plane for eight hours and then I was on a train for four more. And now I'm in Boresville, UK and don't need a lecture, 'kay Hermione? ''(Joy gasps)''\\
'''Patricia:''' Great, that's all we need, another patronizing American whose only reference to the UK is ''Literature/HarryPotter''. Who are you anyway?\\
'''Eddie:''' Who are you?\\
'''Patricia:''' I asked first.\\
'''Eddie:''' ''(scoffs)'' Really? ''(laughs)''\\
'''Patricia:''' Next time you trip someone up, remember it's considered polite to apologize in this country.\\
'''Eddie:''' Do you ever stop talking? I should call you [[HeyYou Blabs.]] Or Yacker. Yeah, Yacker.\\
'''Patricia:''' And how bout I call you, a cab back to the airport?\\
'''Eddie:''' Oh.(''claps sarcastically'') Devastating.\\
'''Patricia:''' As much as I'd love to stay here and trade stereotypes, I think I'm gonna go hang somewhere else. Come on, Joy. ''(walks away)''
* TheSoulless: The sinners.
* SpeakOfTheDevil: In the Season One finale, Jerome says he's "never going anywhere near Rufus again", only to promptly be texted by him
-->'''Jerome:''' [[LampshadeHanging Speak of the devil.]] Literally. I'm surprised my phone didn't burst into flames.
* {{Squee}}: This has basically become Willow's ''catchphrase.''
* {{Squick}}: The entire 'Goose ate a gem, and they need it back' incident, in-universe and out-of-universe. Let's just leave it at that.
** Victor and Vera as well. Especially in-universe.
* TheStinger: In "House of Eclipse", Eddie, Fabian and KT [[spoiler: stop the ceremony just in the nick of time, stopping Robert Frobisher-Smythe from waking up evil. However, at the very end of the episode, hours after this happened... ''his eyes snap open, and his pupils shrink inward.'']]
* StockSeriesFinales: TheMovie, Touchstone of Ra, took place during graduation and is at least assumed to be the finale, with all the students graduating from the AcademyOfAdventure.
* TakeThat: Fabian's comment that "just because it doesn't have RobertPattinson on the cover doesn't mean it's not worth reading" sounds like a TakeThat to the ''Literature/{{Twilight}}'' books, but when you [[FridgeBrilliance think about it a little longer]], you realize that it's actually a TakeThat to celebrity magazines.
* TalkingInYourSleep: Nina does this the night after she meets Sarah. She has a very confusing dream where Sarah continuously warns her to "beware the black bird." According to Patricia, Nina kept mumbling that in her sleep, and [[JerkAss Patricia]] decided to cover her with black feathers so that Nina would freak out when she woke up.
* TheTapeKnewYouWouldSayThat: When Patricia loses her voice and types up stuff in advance on her tablet to show to Eddie in lieu of talking. The typed slides include things like, "You should apologize for whatever cheeky comment you just made" and "Don't pretend like you have a packed schedule." Which of course, he did.
* TaxidermyIsCreepy: Especially Corbierre.
* TeacherStudentRomance: [[spoiler: Mara]] takes pictures of [[spoiler: Mick]] innocently laughing with a teacher and then sends them in to the school anonymously, making it seem like this in ''House of Emergency''.
** While it's more implied than anything, there is Patricia and Jason Winkler. There have been strong hints that they did have some feelings for each other when he was the only one to support her when she thought Joy had been kidnapped, and Patricia seemed very happy whenever he was around and seemed more disappointed than angry when he betrayed her. Even after Jason's FaceHeelTurn, he still seemed to care about her. He hasn't been on the show since season 1 but this pairing is still wildly popular.
* TearsOfJoy: A few times.
** Fabian does this when he finds Nina, after an entire episode spent getting desperate and crazy searching for after he had sent her down the hole during Senet.
** Mara, when she finds out that Jerome is putting someone--his father in this case--before himself for once.
** Jerome, when he gets the gem back, and sees his father freed from prison.
** Pretty much everyone when Joy is saved from dying in the Season 2 finale.
*** Likewise, everyone when Eddie turns out to be alive at the end of Touchstone Of Ra.
** Patricia seemed close to this when she finally got to talk to Joy again.
* TenMinuteRetirement: Nina quits the Sibuna club for all of one episode. Not even one episode, more like half of one. Even while she's trying to remain uninvolved, she can't help but solve the latest clue.
* ThereIsAnother: A version of this is done in season 2 where they discover Nina is not the only [[ChosenOne chosen person]] in the house, and there is in fact her Osirian, who is destined to protect her. [[spoiler:It's Eddie.]]
* ThoseTwoGuys: Jerome and Alfie start as this, but become more involved in the main plot later on. Mara and Mick fit this mold, although Mara is vaguely aware of Patricia's activities for a while.
* ThrashMetal: In Season 2, Patricia is supposed to book a classical quintet to play at the Egyptian exhibition, but [[{{Jerkass}} Eddie]] messes it up and gets a thrash metal band instead. Victor doesn't take it well, but luckily for Patricia, the band knows how to play classical music too.
* ThreePlusTwo: Sibuna. What first begins as a club between three students (Nina Martin, Fabian Rutter and Amber Millington) eventually expands to include two other students (Patricia Williamson and Alfie Lewis).
** This happens again in the second season, as the original trio recreate Sibuna but only have Patricia and Alfie come in later when they really need the help.
*** Happens AGAIN in season 3, as once [[spoiler:Nina never comes back and Amber leaves]] it's down to Fabian, Patricia and Alfie as the remaining original members, and the new trio, with the addition of Eddie Miller and KT Rush.
**** Throughout Season 3, it becomes clear that the Nina-Fabian-Amber trio has been replaced by the Eddie-KT-Fabian trio, with Patricia and Alfie seeming like the added/background two.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Patricia is the {{Tomboy}} to the GirlyGirl of every other girl in the house. Everyone else is afraid of her, she used to play sports, she "really doesn't do tears," and in the movie, the only reason she wore a frilly pink dress was because Sophia thought Eddie would like it. She gets softer as time goes on, but her fellow girls are definitely not tomboys. It's most obvious when she's compared with [[TheDitz Amber]], but one can still see it even when she's with [[GeEk Mara]] and [[TheHero Nina]], who have their own tomboy qualities but remain much girlier than Patricia.
** One bit where the tomboyishness of Patricia as compared to the girliness of the other girls in the House of Anubis is really highlighted is after Amber leaves in Season 3 and KT suggests that they use Amber's clothes to give themselves makeovers. Joy and Mara are thrilled by this idea, but Patricia is annoyed by it and considers it "excruciating."
-->'''Mara:''' ''(to Joy)'' What's the matter? Is it Fabian?
-->'''Joy:''' No, no. It's nothing. Just life stressing me out, I guess.
-->'''KT:''' I know how you feel. ''(to Mara)'' And you were having a tough time with Jerome, right?
-->'''Mara:''' Maybe a bit.
-->'''KT:''' You know what we need?
-->'''Patricia:''' A road trip to Mexico with the wind in our hair and the law on our tails!
--> ''(Everyone laughs)''
-->'''Mara:''' ''(laughing)'' No!
-->'''KT:''' Since Amber left us all of her stuff, I figured...it's makeover o' clock! ''(Patricia groans)'' Come on! What have we got to lose? Might be fun.
-->'''Patricia:''' Or excruciating.
-->'''Joy:''' I'm in.
-->'''Mara:''' ''(squeals)'' Let's do this!
-->'''Joy:''' Come on, Patricia.
-->'''Patricia:''' No...
-->'''Joy:''' Come on, come on!
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: Patricia. She's stubborn and {{Goth}}, never backs down from her problems, and is often called a 'witch' by the other members in her House. However, she is close friends with girly-girls like Joy and Amber, seems to have an interest in fashion, and in the [[TheMovie The Touchstone Of Ra,]] the first time she was ever seen wearing a dress, while she only did it to impress Eddie and tended to complain about it, she was also worried about going into the cellar, because the dress could get ruined. She then added, "[[ICantBelieveImSayingThis Did I really]] [[LampshadeHanging just say that?"]]
* TooDumbToFool: Alfie. While he is more of the class clown than a complete fool, he is rarely taken seriously by the others. However, he usually solves problems and figures things out much quicker than anyone else in Sibuna, mostly in season 3. The others tend to shoot down his ideas, only to find out later that he was correct.
* TookALevelInBadass: This happened to virtually everyone, due to the mysteries.
** Alfie went from being bullied by his best friend and [[DoggedNiceGuy trying hard to win Amber's affections]], but by season three he had taken on a huge role in Sibuna, from coming up with plans, rescuing his friends and eventually attacking Sinner!Fabian to try and save KT. He also became much more serious and determined to follow through with the mystery.
** Fabian was the [[NiceGuy nice guy]] who was also an [[ExtremeDoormat extreme doormat]]. He eventually started becoming much more assertive, virtually attacking anyone who wrongs him or Nina and proving himself much tougher than he seemed at first. He even won the school dodgeball tournament against the rival team, who had obliterated the rest of his team before.
** Mr. Sweet is the dorky, lovable principal of the school, Eddie's father, and a member of Team Evil. His badass side showed in season 3 when he started making plans and tricking Sibuna very well. However, this also made him take a [[TookALevelInJerkass level in jerkass]].
* TookALevelInJerkass:
** In the second season, [[TheProtagonist Nina]] went from being a mostly friendly, brave friend to constantly snapping at her friends, even though they were trying to help her. She does have slight [[JustifiedTrope justification]], though--she was under a ton of stress at the time, and was noticeably nicer when the life of she, her friends, and her grandmother, weren't on the line.
** Something similar happened to [[LovableNerd Fabian]] around the third season, albeit to a lesser degree. Having gotten over his [[ExtremeDoormat Extreme Doormat]] phase, he got rather aggressive, to the point where he gave Joy an overly harsh rejection and caused her to quit Sibuna. [[spoiler:He became MUCH worse as a sinner]].
** Alfie also suffered from this [[spoiler: when he became a sinner.]]
** Joy had one too in the second season. In the first season, she was only seen for about four episodes, but was helpful and kind and was a bit of a woobie. In the second season, when she moved back into the house and joined the main cast, she was [[ClingyJealousGirl always trying to date Fabian]] despite knowing Nina liked him. Bad enough, but then she decided to write an anonymous article in the school paper which was basically [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech a "The Reason Nina Sucks Speech"]]. To make things worse, she then turned on Mara and Patricia, who were the only ones still willing to be her friend. Thank goodness she redeemed herself in the end, because it's a bit obvious why she became hated by a lot of fans.
** Not even Mara was safe from this- in fact, her first time was in the middle of the first season, when she was angry at [[LovableJock Mick]] calling her boring and re-invented herself for a few days, becoming much ruder and more careless. She also tried to expel him. In the third season, though, it was [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Jerome]] cheating on her that made her grow into a jerkass, doing whatever she can to get [[RevengeBeforeReason revenge on him.]] It was fine at first, but then she decided to have Joy pretend to fall in love with him, then break his heart in front of the school. After finding out Joy really did fall for Jerome, she flipped, and turned on her. Only in the end did she calm down and become a better friend. However, this was somewhat justified, as she still had feelings for Jerome and was really heartbroken, and felt betrayed by Joy.
** Heck, Jerome cheating on her in the first place counts too.
* TookALevelInKindness: When they aren't busy [[TookALevelInJerkass taking levels in jerkass,]] the characters definitely had their moments.
** The prime example will have to be Patricia, who was originally a total bitch to Nina (for thinking she hurt Joy somehow, mind you) but, after learning to trust her, became much nicer, despite still being rather tough and sarcastic. Even in other seasons, when she finds new people to hate, she never goes to the same level she did for Nina, showing she did in fact change.
** Jerome. Oh, Jerome. At first manipulative and uncaring, he eventually showed [[HiddenDepths a much better side]] to Mara when she got to know him, and this put him on the path to becoming a better person. Case in point--in the first season, he allied with [[BigBad Rufus]] out of jealousy of Sibuna's closeness. In the second season, he started helping Rufus again--to rescue the kidnapped [[spoiler:Trudy]] and find the stolen gem. He took another [[TookALevelInJerkass level in jerkass]] in season three though.
** Joy, when she joined Sibuna in the second season. She helped them to rescue Nina just because Fabian asked, even though she and Nina were rivals, and then [[spoiler:[[HeroicSacrifice took a lightning bolt for Fabian, nearly dying in the process.]]]]
* TownGirls: The females of Sibuna in seasons 1 and 2 form this: ditzy fashionista Amber (femme), level-headed Nina (neither), and hot-tempered Patricia (butch).
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Characters appear with their favorite food so often that they are now considered {{cargo ship}}s. These are Mick and his bananas, Jerome and his apples, Joy and her cereal, and Eddie and his pancakes.
* TransAtlanticEquivalent: For the above mentioned ''Het Huis Anubis''. There is also a German version of the series called ''Das Haus Anubis''. Both series are very sucessful, and the German version is still running today, while the Dutch version got a spin off called ''The House of Anubis and the Five of the Magical Sword'' that surrounds around a new set of students who have really active senses. The new landlords of the house are after their senses for their own use.
* TrueCompanions: The Sibuna gang. Fabian even gives a RousingSpeech based on this.
-->'''Fabian:''' So maybe Victor's luckier than us. But we're going to get to the mask first. Because we have something he doesn't have, and that's what we have. All of the Sibunas. And we're going to win, because we won't let each other give up, and we won't let each other fail.
* {{Tsundere}}: Patricia and Eddie, Type A, to each other. Eddie refers to being deredere/honest as "lowering his force field". When Patricia stays tsuntsun, he vwooshes it back up.
* TurnCoat: [[spoiler: Jason Winkler]] starts out helping Patricia in Season 1, but betrays her to join the Secret Society. He had a good reason though; [[spoiler: he was dying from a degenerative disease and the Cup of Ankh was his only way out.]]
* TurnTheOtherCheek: Nina does this a few times for Patricia. And later once for Joy.
* TwinSwitch: Patricia attempts this by having her twin sister Piper go on a date with Eddie for her to impress Mr. Sweet with her manners and music knowledge.
* TwoGirlsToATeam: Inverted with the original Sibuna made of 2 guys and 3 girls. In season 3, however, it's played straight as Patricia and KT become the two girls on the team.
** Also works for Team Evil, who ([[spoiler:Ammit]] not included), in terms of the original sinners along with Victor and Robert, have Denby and [[spoiler:Patricia]] as the only two girls on the team.
* TheUnapologetic: When [[JerkAss Joy]] tries to talk to Nina about the former's kiss with Fabian, Nina asks if it's supposed to be her way of saying sorry. Joy responds by saying, "I wasn't going to apologize."
** Patricia has a moment like this too where she refuses to apologize to Eddie for accidentally spilling a secret of his, only it's [[JustifiedTrope justified]], because she didn't actually do anything wrong, and she did keep his secret and the fact that Eddie even thought that she would stoop so low as to sabotage him and turn on the loudspeaker on purpose to reveal his secret to the whole school she found highly offensive. Also, she was just being forced to apologize to Eddie so she could convince him to drop an article he was writing about the local ghost.
* UngratefulBastard: Nina is this to Fabian MANY times, most notably when he rescues her from falling into the chasm.
-->'''Fabian''': I...I saved you...
-->'''Nina''': Oh yeah? Well why don't you save the other girl (Joy Mercer) in this dress?!
** Fabian has also tended to be like this towards Joy in season 3.
*** Also [[ManipulativeBastard Rufus Zeno]]. Patricia had taken a huge risk and rescued him from the hospital when the teachers had put him into some sort of coma, and he repaid her by kidnapping her later on.
* UnrequitedLoveSwitcheroo: Amber and Alfie. Alfie was well known for [[DoggedNiceGuy following Amber around like a lost puppy]] for all of season one and part of season two. They did date, but Alfie was still pulling most of the weight and they eventually broke up. Then, as Alfie fell for another girl...Amber grew feelings for him and was now the one chasing after Alfie.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Nina and Particia, occasionally.
* WearingAFlagOnYourHead: Nina has an American flag on her luggage in the first episode, but discards it, saying that it would prevent her from fitting in. It was probably meant to inform viewers that Nina was American, ([[SarcasmMode because obviously]] [[ViewersAreMorons no viewer would figure that out]]) and then was ditched after it had served that function.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Alfie has trouble getting his father's praise.
* WhamEpisode: "House of Entrapment[=/=]House of Sisters" for its two [[TheReveal reveals]]: [[spoiler: Robert Frobisher-Smythe, founder of Anubis House]] is still alive and [[spoiler: KT is his great-grandaughter.]]
* WhamLine: Not a specific line, but a moment: [[spoiler: The scene where Nina's grandmother turns out to be Senkhara's "timepiece". Seriously no one saw that coming.]]
** Towards the beginning of Season 1, while Nina, Fabian and Amber are listening to the recordings:
---> '''Young Sarah''': He's coming!
---> [[spoiler:'''Victor''': It's ten O'clock. You have five minutes precisely, and then I want to hear a pin drop.]]
** Towards the end of the first season:
---> '''Jerome''': (On the phone) [[spoiler: Hello, is this Rufus Zeno?]]
** The beginning of season 2:
---> '''Vera''': (on the phone) [[spoiler: Hello? I'm in.]]
** Jerome and Mara reading a letter from Trudy in the middle of season 2:
---> '''Mara''': Jerome, look! The first letter of each line.
---> '''Jerome''': ...''Help Me.''
** The finale of season 2, discussing Senkhara wanting the Mask of Anubis, despite not having a body to wear it with:
---> '''Patricia''': She's not going to wear it. [[spoiler:She's going to make Nina wear it.]]
** The middle of season 3:
---> '''KT''': [[spoiler: Why would Victor let me leave so easily, if they needed me for the ceremony?]]
** Eddie having a vision in the middle of the season:
---> '''Frobisher-Smythe''': [[spoiler:There's a viper in your nest.]]
** The end of season 3, after Eddie and KT plant the Staff of Osiris to defeat Team Evil:
---> '''Frobisher-Smythe''': (laughing the rest of the sinners) [[spoiler:I needed that staff to awaken Ammut, and you two just completed it for me!]]
** Halfway through [[TheMovie The Touchstone Of Ra]]:
---> '''Fabian''': Anyone who's ever held the stone...[[spoiler:Turns to stone.]]
** Season 3 recently gave us this:
-->'''Eddie:''' "What are we supposed to do, [[spoiler:kidnap the adults?"]]
-->'''Fabian:''' "Eddie... ''that's brillant!''"
* WhatDoesSheSeeInHim: Mick says this regarding Amber's supposed crush on Alfie.
-->'''Mick:''' What on Earth does she see in him?\\
'''Jerome:''' Well, they say love is blind, mate.\\
'''Mick:''' It'd have to be blind and have no sense of smell.
* WhatWouldXDo: In one scene, Amber asks "What would Victoria Beckham do?"
* WhenTheClockStrikesTwelve: Three instances of this:
** The Cup of Ankh could only be assembled during a certain time on a certain date, and the time was of course midnight.
** Nina's initiation also took place at midnight, as it was the 'bewitching hour'.
** In order for someone to be turned into a Sinner, he or she has to be dragged into one of the sarcophagi at noon or midnight.
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: Amber says this during a discussion of Egyptian mythology in class.
* WitchWithACapitalB: Fabian has called Joy and Patricia witches. The audience would have chosen another word.
-->'''Patricia:''' Since when did you become ''her'' friend instead of mine, Fabian?\\
'''Fabian:''' Since you became such a witch, Patricia.
** Many people on the show have called Patricia a witch.
-->'''Jerome:''' ''(after rejecting Patricia's offer for a date)'' Because you're as rude as I am, and while I have no evidence, I am pretty sure you are a witch.
* WoundedGazelleGambit: Alfie pulls one off in ''House Of Agendas''.
* YouAreTheTranslatedForeignWord: [[JustifiedTrope Justified]]. The science teacher does follow up his Latin statements with their English translations, but only because he is speaking to students who don't know Latin and therefore wouldn't be reasonably expected to understand the untranslated statements.
* YouWereTryingTooHard: The Sibuna gang agonize over how to open the puzzle box early in the series, only to have it open by itself when Fabian drops it and it turns to the correct combination.
* YourApprovalFillsMeWithShame: Happens when Sinner!Alfie is praising Jerome for breaking Joy's heart. An odd case, in which Jerome and Alfie are best friends, and Alfie is usually the nice one--Jerome didn't know he was evil then. Alfie explained how much Jerome hurt Joy, Jerome was ashamed and in shock.
---> '''Alfie:''' You ripped her heart up into tiny pieces, then ripped those up too. Respect man, respect.
* YoureInsane: In the Season 1 finale:
--> '''Jason''': You're insane...
--> '''Rufus''': Very observant.
* YoureJustJealous: Mara to Patricia in ''House of Scares''.
