[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Nine years after Luna's return,]] Equestria has taken a turn for the [[DarkerAndEdgier grimdark.]] Celestia is slowly but surely becoming a paranoid tyrannical dictator in her search for the Lunar rebels; Luna herself has gone into hiding, and the bearers of the Elements of Harmony have disappeared. The story now takes place in Fillydelphia, where the all too recent massacre of rebels still hangs heavy in the air. Celestian patrols during the day are oppressive; Violent dissident attacks occur after curfew. In this city of high passions and great fear, nopony knows what will happen next…

[[http://equestriachronicles.forumotions.net/forum Equestria Chronicles]] is a PlayByPost role play forum based on a dark interpretation of WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic. While still young, it has developed a quite intertwined series of events, ranging from obvious rebel/guard dynamic to the more subtle implications of romance and the personal lives of ponies.

!!Tropes:

* AbsurdlyYouthfulMother: Kettle Cornflakes is 42, and her daughter Fireflare is 27. When Kettle says she wants to start dating again, everypony but Fireflare is okay with it.
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: Every parent's first appearance, with the exception of Kettle Cornflakes.
* AnArmAndALeg: A couple of Pegasi have only one wing, and there's at least one Unicorn with a broken horn.
* ArtificialLimbs: Clockwork has made a leg for Nova Storm and is working on a wing for Amarna.
* AxCrazy: [[SerialKiller Azure Blade]], Tanner, and [[GeneralRipper Hammer Fell]] are examples of this trope.
* BadassAdorable: Pony civil war, yo!
* BadassNormal: [[PapaWolf Tinkertop]] and many of the other Earth Ponies are this.
* BearHug: Kettle Cornflakes and, occasionally, her daughter Fireflare. To hilarious results.
* BigBad: Celestia qualifies for this position.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Clockwork with Gadget, Icarus to Dino, Fireflare with the Heather Clan foals…Actually, anypony who has interacted with the younger generation.
* BrokenAngel: It is established that Pegasi can lose their wings and Unicorns can break their horns. Oddly, the characters that fit this definition seem to be coping rather well.
* BrutalHonesty: Galaxy has a Love/Hate relationship with this trope; thanks to her habit of avoiding self-delusion whenever possible, she tends to not sugarcoat anything and be very blunt when telling other ponies what she thinks.
* CatapultNightmare: In one epic prank, Clockwork set up one of these over the course of a few hours…with all the other users thinking it was REAL right up till the end.
** Later, Nocturne had one about his parents. Fortunately, Kettle was there to comfort him.
** Dartbreak has one of these as well after an extremely vivid nightmare where he saw his dead friends again. No, it wasn't a happy dream. At least Kimono was there to keep the aftereffects from sending him spiraling into insanity…
* ChildByRape: Fireflare is an example of this trope.
** Wishing Star is either an example of or a victim to this trope; she is currently carrying Mistweaver's foal, whether she likes it or not.
* CoolOldLady: Kettle Cornflakes, definitely. Amethyst Breeze as well. Shooting Star…maybe.
* CrossPlayer: Men play as fillys, most often, but quite a few ladies play as colts. Really, any established user has at least one character of the opposite gender.
** Except Nocturne.
* CustomUniform: Both Flapper Jack and Hammer Fell wear different armor then the rest of the guards; FJ wears a family heirloom set, and Hammer Fell wears a custom mithril skinsuit. Interestingly, both sets of armor actually provide more protection then the standard barding…
%%* DarkerAndEdgier: Oh so much.
* DefectorFromDecadence: Flapper Jack is set up to become one very, very soon…
* DirtyCop: Quite a few royal guards abuse their position.
* DoorstopBaby: Fidelity barely has time to even ''hear'' about her brother's death before his former mistress walks into her office and drops off a nameless three-day-old pony because it clashes with her ensemble.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: The local pretty boy [[JerkassWoobie Shiloh]] is quite often mistaken for a filly, [[ButtMonkey much to his irritation.]] In fact, he looks so ''much'' like a lady that he caught the attentions of the local sociopath.
* EyepatchOfPower: Fidelity sports one.
* EyeScream: The unicorn Galaxy violently lost her eyes in her backstory; she's still a little sensitive about the fact that she doesn't have any eyes.
* FemmeFatale: Dusk
* FilmNoir: Corrupt Authorities, Back stabbing "Allies", yep.
* FourLinesAllWaiting: Aside from the so called primary plot, there are a bunch of romantic side-plots, events dealing with murders, the constant inventions of Tinkertop, psychological drama, and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking the expansion of businesses.]]
* GenderBender: In a surprising inversion, a temporary female-to-male transgen pin was utilized to allow two mares to have a foal. [[AttractiveBentGender It went very well.]]
** And then the mares stuck a transgen pin on their stallion friend as a prank....
** Much later, a mare was turned into a stallion... right after she proposed to her marefriend. Said marefirend exacted her vengeance by turning the (male) unicorn into a (female) griffon.
* GeniusBruiser: Icefox, a University professor who basically invented his own (surprisingly effective) martial art.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: If Mistweaver starts exhibiting this…Well, you're in for a LOT of pain.
* GreyAndGrayMorality: There are good guards, then there are the fanatics. There are the friendly rebels, then there are the dissidents. There are normal civilians, then there are the murderers. And there have been implications that the monsters might join the fight…
** WouldNotShootACivilian: Many rebels feel this way when they plan their attacks.
* HalloweenEpisode: In the midst of all this chaos and destruction there is a party celebrating Nightmare Moon's scaryness…after the host asked Celestia for permission. Hmmm.
* HandicappedBadass: Galaxy is totally and irreversibly blind; yet, through a combination of her other senses and a sonar-like spell, can hold her own in a fight without any actual training.
%%* HeroicBSOD: Oh so many.
* HeWhoFightsMonsters: On both sides, there are ponies who are very wary because of this trope, and who might know a monster themselves. And then there's Fireflare, who fights ''literal'' monsters and has stated therapy is a necessity in her job.
* HopelessSuitor: [[UnluckyChildhoodFriend Nocturne]] for Scribble.
** Hilariously, he's actually ''very good'' at landing ladies [[InterspeciesRomance that aren't ponies.]]
* IAmVeryBritish: Sure Lock, the town locksmith/cat burglar, has one of the single most entertaining accents on the forum.
* IfYouEverDoAnythingToHurtHer: Fireflare has both had this threat directed at her and directed this threat herself.
* IfYoureSoEvilEatThisKitten: [[spoiler:Icarus is told that he'll be executing a pony in, oh, five minutes. And the whole town is gathered by public decree. And then his dad shows up…]]
* IJustWriteTheThing: Masterweaver often claims his characters wander around without his provocation.
* IThinkYouBrokeHim: All but spoken by Fireflare when Wishing Star explains sex to Iron Hoof.
** And then again when Wishing Star explains to the newly transformed Iron Claw what it means to be a griffon mare in heat.
*** Iron gets a lot of this.
* KarmaHoudini: Shiloh, Daedalus, Azure Blade…more then a few ponies get away with horrible things.
%%* KnightInSourArmor: The Local Police Detective, Sparks Facade.
* {{Ladette}}: Fireflare, basically.
** Partially averted; her ongoing relationship with [[OneTrueLove Wishing Star]] has ground many of the [[SheCleansUpNicely jagged edges]] off of Fireflare's personality. She wouldn't be mistaken for feminine, but she's no {{Ladette}} anymore, either.
* {{Magitek}}: There's a complex background on how [[MagicAIsMagicA unicorn spells work,]] and on how gems can be made to HOLD unicorn spells.
* MorningSickness: Interestingly, only one pregnant character has displayed this. It might be due to the whole "pony" thing.
* MysteriousWaif: The not often seen Earth Cloud has elements of this. His special talent is hiding, and he's a unicorn…
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Nocturne. Most wouldn't think it to meet him, but he's actually quite observant and intelligent.
** Even Nocturne's creator doesn't know if he's closer to this or CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass.
* OutOfFocus: Happens occasionally.
* PerkyGoth: Bones Cloud, and her sister Flash Cloud to a lesser degree.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Apparently, Hammerfell seems to think of Wishing Star and Mistweaver as these.
* PromotionToParent: In one instance, Tinkertop find Snap Shot after her parents have been taken away by the guard and gets her out just in time. In another, [[spoiler:Dino's mother dies of sickness, leaving his cousin/uncle Icarus as his legal guardian.]]
** And there are the two fox kits Violet and Blu adopted.
** And that foal they picked up off the street.
%%* RapeAsDrama BROKEN STAR.
* PsychoForHire: Mistweaver is teetering on the edge of becoming one of these. [[MindRape The right push in the wrong direction, and.....]]
* RebelLeader: Clockwork. To be fair, she is the ''regional'' rebel leader.
* RecurringDreams: Dartbreak has stated that he has these when he falls to sleep without drinking heavily beforehand. Seems like they've started to lessen now, thanks to meeting Kimono…
* RedLightDistrict: The best place to get [[GenderBender transgender pins!]]
* RedOniBlueOni: Quite a few of the romantic and not so romantic pairs end up like this.
* SacrificialLion: [[spoiler:Jon's death. While Jon himself wasn't too important, as the primary rebel spy character his death robbed the rebels of a key information source, forced another character to go underground, and eventually caused a mandatory execution which itself was a huge source of drama.]]
* SplitPersonality:
** Wishing Star and her [[SuperpoweredEvilSide alter ego]] [[JekyllAndHyde Dark]] [[AxCrazy Star]] are this.
** Turns out Mistweaver has one of these in [[SuperpoweredEvilSide Strangling Mist]]. If you see his eyes glowing, RUN THE HELL AWAY.
** [[spoiler:They've met. Strangling Mist won. To traumatizing results.]]
* TheTalk: Upon discovering that Iron Hoof doesn't know what sex is, Fireflare…asks her marefriend to explain. Unfortunately, Wishing Star is ''very'' well versed in that field…
--> Wishing Star facehoofed at Fireflare's behavior and said, "Alright. Sit down, this'll take a minute to get through. You're aware of what your penis is, right?…" started Wishing Star, before launching into what was possibly the most thorough practical explanation of sex that had ever been given. It put parents skirting the issue with their teenage foals to shame. Hell, it put most pornographic publications to shame as well. Star's descriptions and instructions were graphically detailed and exceedingly thorough~ any stallion who listened to this speech and managed to absorb even half of what she said would be hailed as God of Sex by all.
** Subverted later on when Fireflare discovers that Scribble Quill doesn't know what sex is. She flat out states she doesn't want to go through that again and advises Scribble to ask her coltfriend.
* ThoroughlyMistakenIdentity: Earth Cloud associates Amarna with Blue Blossom, a dead friend of his.
** It's slowly being revealed that he associates ANY blue Pegasus with Blue Blossom. And believes them to be her messages to him.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Multiple examples! Surprisingly high in romantic pairs.
** Clockwork and Nyx
** Fireflare and Wishing Star
** Blossom and Fog Moon
* TraumaInducedAmnesia: [[spoiler:Iron Hoof represses a memory of Iron Claw, Nocturne, and Sparks. For good reason.]]
%% This is a zero context example. Please do not uncomment until furhter context has been added.* {{Unicorn}}: Yep.
* UnluckyChildhoodFriend: Nocturne to Scribble Quill... although, apparently, [[InterspeciesRomance not so unlucky elsewhere.]]
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: All hail Celestia and down with those depraved rebels!!!
* WitchHunt: Quite a few characters have suggested this is how ponies go about gather rebels. They even have a term for it: Rule-Rattled.
* YankTheDogsChain: Sparks Facade. Poor Sparks, Any love interest suffers from [[CartwrightCurse "accidents"]], friends from the past tend to have [[SuperpoweredEvilSide issues]]
