One morning at the power plant, Mr. Burns decides to test his employees' readiness with a fire drill. It is a disaster, with employees running around frantic, wasting time evacuating and sabotaging each other (except for Homer, who saves a cowboy photo of himself and locks everyone else in the building while trying to escape). Disgusted by their ineptitude, Mr. Burns insists that everyone attend a team-building exercise that weekend on Springfield Mountain.
The morning of the event, Homer gets teamed-up with Mr. Burns while his family explores the mountain. To motivate the employees, Mr. Burns announces that the last team to reach a cabin will be fired. Mr. Burns and Homer cheat to reach the cabin early, and begin enjoying party supplies stowed there. Unfortunately, avalanches occur and bury the cabin, preventing any other teams from arriving.
Mr. Burns and Homer slowly go stir crazy while the other employees stay at a ranger station, thinking it's the cabin Burns referred to earlier. When Mr. Smithers enters last, having climbed with Bart and Lisa who continually distracted him, he realizes Mr. Burns isn't there and that something went wrong. As the group decides to exhume their bodies, a propane tank in Burns and Homer's cabin explodes, releasing the cabin into open. As everyone runs into the cabin, Smithers announces that they completed the challenge in record time. Delighted, Mr. Burns decides no one will be fired.
