Arnold Wesker, AKA The Ventriloquist, is shown having a peaceful dream that rapidly turns into a nightmare where he gets killed by his dummy, the evil crime boss Scarface. He pleads with his psychologist not to release him, as he fears that Scarface isn't really gone yet. She lets him go, assuring him that he's stronger than that. Wesker gets a job working at Wayne Enterprises and is happy at first, but soon his old flunkies Rhino and Mugsy return and demand to know when the Boss is coming back. Wesker tells them that Scarface is gone and not returning, and they take it badly...

Soon Wesker starts hearing a voice exactly like Scarface's and even seeing him. Batman investigates and almost gets killed himself. He and Batgirl figure out what's really going on -- Rhino and Mugsy hired a midget actor to impersonate Scarface so they can get the gang back together and be successful criminals again. Unfortunately, this happens just as poor tormented Wesker has given in and returned to being The Ventriloquist! Scarface leads the boys on a robbery of Wayne Enterprises, and Wesker is confronted by one last chance to rid himself of his evil alter-ego forever.

!!Tropes:

* BreakingOutTheBoss: Rhino and Mugsy drive the Ventriloquist insane so his criminal mastermind alternate personality Scarface can emerge. When he does come back, he sets up a grand heist. When getaway is imminent, he tries to kill the goons for forcing him out early.
-->'''Scarface:''' When the muscle starts thinking it's the brain, it's time to amputate.
* TheCameo: [[WesternAnimation/SupermanTheAnimatedSeries Clark Kent and Lois Lane]] can be seen lying on the grass in the background during the scene where Wesker is walking in the park.
* TheDogBitesBack: Arnold Wesker finally ventilates the Scarface doll via his own tommy gun.
* DutchAngle: Used to represent The Ventriloquist's confusion as to what is real and what is imaginary.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: Arnold Wesker finally gets rid of his Scarface personality and becomes the only villain in the series to permanently reform.
* EvilIsNotAToy: Wanting to get back their old boss, Scarface's minions, Rhino and Mugsy, try to gaslight poor Wesker into returning to crime. What they didn't know at the time was, by going against their "boss", Scarface would [[UngratefulBastard repay]] their "disobedience" by trying to kill them off. After all, as meek as his default personality is at times, Wesker is essentially a dangerous (former) crime lord. What did they ''think'' was going to happen by antagonizing him to be his more cutthroat personality?
* {{Gaslighting}}: To bring out Scarface, Rhino and Mugsy use several schemes to erode Wesker's sanity and make him think his Scarface persona is returning, including getting an impersonator to call and talk to the Ventriloquist. They even make a new Scarface doll and leave it in his apartment.
* HeelFaceTurn: Wesker winds up turning against Scarface and destroys the doll himself, ridding himself of his evil personality completely.
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption / JokerImmunity: Averted. Outside of the tie-in comics, Ventriloquist is perhaps the only main antagonist to overcome his villainous side and live HappilyEverAfter.
* KilledMidSentence: Scarface is in the middle of threatening Wesker for his betrayal when the fan rips him to shreds.
-->'''Scarface:''' That's it, dummy! When I get my hands on--
* KilledOffForReal: Outside of [[Recap/TheNewBatmanAdventuresE12OverTheEdge dreams]] and [[Recap/JusticeLeagueS2E11And12ABetterWorld alternate universes]], this is the last time we see Scarface, gunned down by the Ventriloquist and shredded by an industrial fan. Rhino and Mugsy realize Scarface will kill them if he sees them again so they're not coming back. The episode ends with Arnold Wesker glad he finally has some peace and quiet.
* {{Leitmotif}}: As opposed to the jazz-style theme Wesker and Scarface had in "[[Recap/BatmanTheAnimatedSeriesE64ReadMyLips Read My Lips]]", the pair now have a lighthearted Irish-like theme accompanying them in their appearances in this episode.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: The Scarface persona claims it was merely dormant, lying low in the depths of the Ventriloquist's subconscious mind and planning to one day re-emerge once he'd lured everyone into a false sense of security. By psychologically torturing Wesker to get their boss back, Mugsy and Rhino not only ruin Scarface's plans but end up helping Wesker [[EarnYourHappyEnding reach deep inside himself and find the inner strength to confront and destroy his demons for good]].
* ObfuscatingInsanity: Inverted. The Scarface personality laid low and planned to emerge after Arnold Wesker's reformation when the time was right. He really didn't like Rhino and Mugsy bringing him out of hiatus early, no matter how much they wanted to get the gang back together.
* OffhandBackhand: The main picture of the page, with Mugsy being the unfortunate victim of it.
* PetTheDog: Batman goes out of his way to ensure Arnold gets a fresh start: a nice apartment, a mail room job at Wayne Enterprises, and an attempt to keep Scarface's goons, Rhino and Mugsy, away.
* ThrowTheDogABone: Arnold Wesker finally gets to be happy, rid of the Scarface personality.
