Because of her constant disregard for the rules, Lestrade is given a rookie named Abner Angel as a partner to keep her in line. At the same time, while a jewel thief manages to escape his cell, there seems to be glitches in the computer system that makes hunting him down difficult. Is this man smarter than he appears to be? Or is someone else at work?
----
* AdaptationalNameChange: A twofer. Abner Angel was in fact named Hosmer Angel, while his real name was changed from James Windibank to Ned Stillwater.
* AdaptationalKarma: Windibank was able to get away with his crimes before making a disappearance, whereas Stillwater fails to escape and is arrested at the end.
* AdaptationalVillainy: Hosmer Angel was a fake name poised by a disproving stepfather seeking his stepdaughter's inheritance to fund his lifestyle. Abner Angel, by contrast, was the fake identity of a cybercriminal who tricked his way into New Scotland Yard so he could gain access to every high credit site in town.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Lestrade is vexxed to be stuck with a clueless newbie from the Academy, only to start warming up to him after thinking he's being attacked by Beaumont. She's rightfully angered to learn it was all a ruse and notes her disappointment that she started to trust him.
* EvilAllAlong: The seemingly affable young klutz named Abner Angel was, in fact, Ned Stillwater, a hacker and a criminal who plotted to get rich.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Abner unintentionally drops hints that he's not exactly what he appears to be.
** He fails to name the spray used on the jewel known as iodoxide, something Lestrade calls him out on as he's hardly day out of the academy. Sherlock is notably seen rubbing his chin in thought upon hearing this and later points out that if he did attend the academy, he ''would'' have known that.
** Although Lestrade had a clear shot at Beaumont, Abner got in her line of fire to try and capture him. While it comes off as him trying too hard to catch a criminal, it later becomes clear he was giving Beaumont an opportunity to escape.
** He's very surprised to see Holmes and Watson at Linus Beaumont's apartment, as well act like he's unfamiliar with the game Tennyson. It's also notable he parked in front of the cyberarcade and not the apartment.
** He normally acts lost and unfamiliar with things, coming off as absentminded. However, he quickly showed knowledge on how security nodes worked in conjunction with the computers at New Scotland Yard.
